>> he's free to run and what have you and joe biden has beat donald trump already. kennedy is a famous democratic name, famous american name, if you l he has a right to run but he won't be a factor unless something drastically goes wrong. the democrats are going to be a thousand percent against joe biden. the polling says 50, 60, 70% dems don't want him to run. if you ran the snapshot, if you do run, are the democratic voters going to vote for him regardless on the republican side, the answer is overwhelmingly yes. mike: there was some suggestion that president biden might hold off to fall to announce reelection campaign and now it's coming we expect this beak, what do you make of that? >> well, i make that he's a guy that goes with his gut and that right now is a time when he needs to get off the bench and get out there and start campaigning. he needs to raise money. he needs to build an organization. this could dwight possibly be the most expensive presidential

campaign of all time and so it's time, you know, he's got his main -- his main counterpart out there, former president trump, fully engaged. he's out there every day. the president may not want to stir it up with former president trump but he does see those headlines and wants to get into the debate. >> scott, you made reference to poll numbers. let's dig into some from quinnipiac, biden 48-trump 46. biden 46-desantis 48. what do you make of those numbers? >> they are a snapshot, if you will. ron desantis is untested at the time. trump and biden are tested. the big white elephant in the room. does trump stay in the race or not. that's a real issue. he's a magnet for the republican gop hopefuls because they need his maga supporters yet he's under indictment. if he indicted in georgia and by

the feds it's unlikely he can fight all three indictments despite political popularity, stay in the race and make noise while defending himself because liberty is at stake for the first time. those are snapshots. mike: the prodesantis super pac called back. they are suggesting that the former president should move to california to hang out with gavin nowsome, your thoughts? >> there's a lot of movement going on in republican politics in florida. desantis came to washington and wasn't received as well as he thought he had been. in fact, a bunch of trump guys decided to name their endorsement that same week. so there's a lot of trump versus desantis in florida. maybe a snapshot for what some of the later primaries will look like. mike: to hunter biden, his legal team expected to meet with the justice department this week. today on sunday morning futures,

house oversight chairman james comer suggested it's more than just hunter biden, let's play it. >> i haven't found any legitimate business dealings on the biden, it looks like if there was a legitimate business dealing in llc it was influence peddling. you want to get technical and if you want to get to a legal term, that's called being a foreign agent. mike: scott, he's suggesting more than just hunter biden got checks overseas. >> those are political allocations. you have to connect the dots, state prosecutor has got to connect the dots with the facts and the elements and the influence peddling, that's all political rhetoric. the reality is that if there was a crime committed, you know, the gopdoj under trump has been looking at this and others have looked at over 5 years regarding hunt every biden. even if you want to expand that into the biden family. there's just no there there yet.

there may be but the investigation has to run its course and the congressional committees need to let the investigations go forward and not interfere with it and the political allocations like that statement right there you ran aren't helpful for either side. mike: we had a whistleblower from the irs saying there's preferential treatment, what about that? >> well, it goes to what most americans feel about their political institutions in washington right now. they think the fbi and department of justice can be politicized, weponized against political opponents. there needs to be a very clear due process of judgment going forward here without any politics because as long as hunter biden is viewed by the american people as above the law while donald trump is not above the law has been charged and indicted in new york, i mean, they are going to see the stories in context to one another and want to see that everybody is treated fairly.

mike: the biden administration expected to unveil security plans this week ahead of title 42 expiration next month. this as summer temperatures approach and border officials brace for a possible surge in migrants. nate foy live along the border in brownsville, texas with the latest on this growing crisis, hello, nate. nate: hey, mike, migrant encounters are record pace through the first six months of the fiscal year and end of title 42 is expected to put gas on that fire but another problem that the southern border communities are constantly dealing with is the threat of chase after chase. it happens seemingly every day including yesterday in kenny county where unfortunately we are learning 3 illegal migrants

were killed and 7 people were hurt after a multivehicle chase. take a look at this video, our crews arrived just after one of the vehicles involved flipped. you see this badly damaged pickup truck, we know 3 people were in the cab, 3 people were in the bed. there were multiple ejections. both drivers involved have been apprehended. we know the driver of the truck is still in the hospital today. now you mentioned the end of diet 482 and 2 and a half weeks, take a look at this mike, some migrants can't wait that long. this group from venezuela crossed the bored illegally from matamores to brownsville yesterday and we spoke with them. they said it's too dangerous stay in matamores and there's no work and having issues with the cbp one app and take a look at the video to prepare for title 42, the city of el paso setting example by opening make-shift shelter and local ng of course's say they are happy to be getting

activity across the bored in matamores from brownsville. earlier this week i'm sure you saw there was a bridge rush where a thousand migrants stormed the gateway international bridge. it was shut down. more tensions in matamores the day after that i believe friday there was a fire lit at a migrant camp in matamoros. there's question who set the fire but right now we are being told from law enforcement sources there are a lot of migrants waiting for the end of title 42 on the other side of the rio grande. mike: nate foy live in texas. >> you got. mike: beth bath&beyond has filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy, customers have a few days left to use 20% leftover coupons.

explain that? >> no, it's unexplainable. i've been racing my brain to make sense and there's no sense to be found. the thing is when i listen to the biden administration talk about it, they keep talk about first-time home buyers and how it will help first-time home buyers and if you saved and paid bills on time, you have good credit you will be punished at the expense of those who don't have good credit and haven't paid bills on time and don't have a down payment. the goal of this is to stimulate the housing market to get new entrance to the housing market, they are sending a bad signal for those who have done the right thing. mike: all right, let's take a look at mortgage rates. as of this week, a 30-year fix rate, 6.39%, 5.76% for a 15-year fixed. that's up substantially from 3% for a 30-year fixed. mitch, what's the impact on the housing market? mitch: well, it certainly has

slowed down the housing market. if you look at it from historical perspective, those mortgage rates are not unusually high. in fact, when i bought my first home, i don't want to tell how how many years ago i had double digit interest rates. from the historical perspective it's not unusual and if mortgage rates land here and this is where they are for the next decade that wouldn't be so awful. the problem as you said, mike, they went from sub 3 to plus 6 and that's what the housing market has had a hard time digesting because home prices haven't fallen that much so the cost of buying a house just from a borrowing perspective has skyrocketed. mike: inventory for houses for sale i have been told is tight but people are having trouble selling because interest rates have gone up, what's the impact on our economy? >> well, you know, it's funny, we can tie this into the bed, bath&beyond story. the impact of the economy on the

housing market isn't necessarily the sale of the house. it's when you buy a house you spend money to fix it up which pumps more money to the economy or you buy stuff to put it in the house and there's a knock-on effect of people buying new homes or existing homes. the problem with little inventory there aren't houses to buy which is keeping house prices up. so something has to give and my recommendation to the biden administration, if you want to do something policy wise to help the housing market and to help the economy, create incentives for people to build new homes because we do not have enough supply of housing and that's what's keeping the prices high. mike: we are nearly out of time but what's your read on the state of the american economy right now? mitch: i think it's going to be inflation sticky, it's going to be here for a really, really long time and if the only fix is to continue to raise interest rates with the hope of causing a recession to choke off consumer demand, it's going to be, you know, a long grinding summer and

mike: now for a look at some of today's headlines the embassy is shutting embassy in sudan after evacuating staff out of war-torn nation. thousands of u.s. citizens remain as officials say it's too dangerous to carry out broader evacuation mission. more than 400 people including one american have been killed since the violence first erupted in sudan earlier this month with government backed military forces clashing with a para military group in struggle for control. officials estimate more than 3500 people have been injured amid the fighting. president biden and other world leaders are calling for an end

to the violence urging growth groups to agree ceasefire and mr. biden says he's receiving regular reports from his team on efforts to assist the remaining americans in sudan. reports indicate ukrainian forces have established positions on the eastern bank of the nipro river giving rise to speculation that advances could be early sign of kyiv spring counteroffensive. alex hogan live from kyiv with the very latest, hello, alex. alex: hi, mike, this is very big news in this part of the country with ukrainian forces managing to continue to move forward, this is the southern part of ukraine. take a look at this map where you can see where some of these changes have taken place with ukrainian forces setting up positions on the eastern side of

the dniper river and could signal kickoff of a spring counteroffensive that ukrainian officials in kyiv have continued to point toward for months. in the meantime russia unleashing attacks in other parts of the country, this video is in north eastern kyiv where it is ukraine's second largest city where russian strikes last night hit apartment buildings and houses and in the contested town of bakhmut where russia has claimed more than ground, ukrainian forces remain fighting their now into the seventh month continually trying to hold onto this small mining town. >> there are civilians over there. 3 people live there including an older woman with broken leg. civilians live over there too in the basement. not all of the civilians left. they say they have nowhere to go. alex: now there are still a lot of changes as we continue to look at the battlefield and when we are talking about western aid, the ukraine contract group has so far given more than 230

can take a closer look. this is american airlines flight 1958 bound for phoenix, arizona after taking off from columbus, ohio were told shortly after the plane took off around 7:45 a.m. birds struck the engine. this was the path the plane took according to tracking flight aware. plane not even on the air an hour before making an emergency landing. american airlines saying in part to fox news, the flight landed normally and taxied safely to the gate under its own power but you have to imagine terrifying moments for people on board. we know faa is investigating. people who live in the area took to social media this morning to say they saw the flames or heard strange noises coming from the boeing, a moment like this, though, is a reminder of the miracle on the hudson 14 years ago when pilots safely crash landed on the hudson river after experiencing a bird strike, mike. mike: amazing.

salazar admit today trafficking and year's long drug importation and distribution conspiracy. they also say he recruited former marines to do the same. prosecutors say salazar was so involved in drug trafficking that he even tried to have a song written about him to glorify his criminal activity. >> when he was having exchange with the mexican song writer about drafting this narco ballet that he was recognizing that he had this dual life. christina: also on friday correctional officer who also serves as an army national guardsman was charged with multiple felonies for smuggling meth and heroin across the u.s.-mexico border with his wife and 3 children in the vehicle. he was arrested in orange county, prosecutors say his family did not know he was smuggling the drugs and in a separate incident the former executive director of the san jose police association joanne

>> sure, so just this last thursday as many know this year marks the 50th anniversary of the all volunteer force, of course, a lot has been reported of late around how the military is struggling with recruiting. the army missed recruiting goal for the second year in a row, however, at the same time what many might not know quite as much with higher education is, you know, there's a coming demographic cliff coming to universities, so in about a year or two you are going start seeing a decline in high school eligible students presenting a potential situation where the military and higher education could be competing for the same american youth. and so we saw this as an opportunity not to -- to actually create an opportunity where we can bring together several dozen higher education leaders across the country to

while and not continue to move a whole lot faster. boston, you will see rain for a while. new england. new york city got 2-inches last night as it barely crawled on through the area. otherwise we are tracking heavy thunderstorms moving across portions of east texas particularly stretching in the rio grande valley and what you are seeing in the yellow polygon is severe warn thunderstorm. very heavy rain, frequent lighting, some strong winds up to 60, 70 miles an hour probably little bit of hail as well. this will continue to settle up towards the south and make the move ultimately moving down into mexico and out over the gulf of mexico but we continue to see severe thunderstorm watch across the entire area until 2:00 p.m. central. as you get past this, it should be clearing off on the backside of that system using up all of the energy as a system continues to move down to the south. now, for your forecast today if you're outside of the area, maybe you noticed quite a bit cooler as you moved past system. temperatures back to 55-degrees in kansas city.
