different ballgame. because the press, you are members of the administration. you might as well be at the navy mess socializing with us in the west wing. you are not true members of the press if you are doing that. >> pete: i interact with this press team every day often they will come through the basement where we have our booth or send an email asking if there are any topics we are covering they should be aware of ahead of a briefing so it's something that's on karine's ra radar ande can't dismiss the topic and say i don't know anything about that. but we have never been asked for a question before. >> brian: do they ask for your head shot just in case they pick you? i couldn't believe her question was on there. >> peter: i just have head shots down in the booth i just hand them out. they don't ask for that but i do just anybody that comes down. who am i making this one out to? >> steve: how many does mark meredith have now? >> it's mark. it's his wife, it's his uncle.

>> steve: so, peter, what you just -- let me see if i understand what you just said. you said that sometimes they will ask -- you will tell the white house comms team i'm going to ask about this topic like immigration on the southern border. just so they don't go well, we don't know anything about it yeah, basically. that way if there is something -- this white house wants to talk about like maga republicans and gun control and abortion access and that's it. so anything that is outside of what the white house talking points are going to be, we do try to give them a heads up so that they cannot just dismiss the question. and it does help. a lot of times i think they do go and do some research, figure out what the president's position is about something or what the white house position is i think that that helps them get the word out and it definitely

helps us. but, again, that's a very, very general thing. they can figure out exactly what we are covering just by watching one of our hits. in a day. and so it's the same idea as that today we are covering, this if we have got a question. >> brian: any difference between jen psaki's press team and this one? >> it works pretty much the s same. >> ainsley: any difference in them? >> steve: yeah. i understand there is some fest planned today for take your child to work to the white house day? >> pete: yeah, president biden is going to greet some staff kids at 12:15 or so out on the south lawn. >> ainsley: are you bringing your baby? >> peter: she is a little too young. got to work on teaching her a question for the president. and so i think that's more like a 1-year-old thing. but every day when i go home, it's just okay, brigitte, ask

bond at the rodeo. you bond by maybe blown. >> steve: steve it was cover girl. brand new fox news poll out there. regarding the republican nominee, who do people prefer on the republican side? right now, donald trump leads ron desantis 53-21. mr. desantis, as you can see, he is down three points since march. >> ainsley: and seven points since february. i wonder why. look at the trump numbers in february. and then, march, is it because of what happened to him in new york? >> steve: probably. >> ainsley: people supported him and his numbers went up. >> brian: definitely a factor. president trump has been hitting ads and the super pac hitting ads against ron desantis. and he sees. >> ainsley: the ads are about his loyalty. >> brian: his loyalty. he wants to raise the retirement age to 95 i believe that's what they have it at. >> ainsley: 59?

>> brian: i'm igd can. 70. a whole bunch of things about ron desantis that he thinks is different from him. he has been attacking him. not nikki haley, not tim scott. not mike pence. he looks at him and i think he is right as his biggest challenge. now, what donald trump made news a couple of days ago what he put out on truth social i'm hearing about these debates. no one checked with me. i'm not sure i'm going to do it. a lot of people that hate the maga crowd. a lot of people don't like me. i don't know if we are going to go into a hostile situation like that. then last night on wabc radio, he said this. >> well, i'm leading by 40 points. and a lot of people say why would you do a debate when you have people at 2 and 3 and 15 and 14 and detang tuesday is coming way down. why why debate when people don't be debate when they have massive

leads. why would i debate? i would have a hostile group of anchors a hostile network asking questions. why would i do that? >> steve: why would you do it? it's just a tradition. it's part of the vetting process. i think on both parties, the parties want to see all of the candidates align essentially you are shopping for the best candidate. we have already heard joe biden is not going to do it because he doesn't want to look so old compared to all the others. miranda devine wrote this morning in the "new york post" she said you can hope trump is teasing he won't dethe debate. otherwise the obvious conclusion trump is running scared from ron desantis. >> ainsley: i think he will wind up doing it eventually if all the other candidates are doing it. >> steve: he should. >> ainsley: the difference is at least the republicans are having primary presidential debates. >> steve: first one on fox. >> ainsley: other democratic candidates, other than joe biden are saying wait a minute, the public needs to hear from us.

>> brian: i would say this. i understand where the president is coming from. why do i want to make a mistake and close the gap. so much talent on the right i think he would admit that number two i think he needs to sharpen his skills. four years since he debated. he was not strong against president biden. >> steve: how sharp does he have to be against president biden? >> brian: listen, how did he do last time? i don't think he did great last time against joe biden. >> steve: according to donald trump he won. >> brian: but he also had covid for the first one it turns out. >> steve: second. >> brian: second one. one was eliminated. i think it sharpened his skillets and got him ready to go. i thought it would be good for the country. >> steve: one of the people on that stage with donald trump in the republican. >> ainsley: field? >> steve: primary debate would be asa hutchinson he has already officially declared yesterday in the home of walmart vintonville, arkansas. asa joins us now. >> good morning. >> actually bentonville is my home.

it's great to be able to tell a national story about me and my connections to bentonville, building the first fm radio station there being a lawyer that practiced on the square. it was great to introduce bentonville and my history together. >> steve: asa, what do you make of donald trump saying he might not go into the republican primary debate? >> well, i think he is posturing i think it will flip back and forth two or three times but ultimately i expect him to be on that debate stage because this is where the republican audience is. the primary voters, but, also, you got to defend your record. you got to be able to present your vision to america. to me, with the incredible, incredible challenges we face with the economy it is important that we ideas. reducing excessive federal spending that leads to inflation. we need to reduce the federal workforce by civilian workforce by 10%. so i set out some specific

goals. these are kind of ideas that's presented on t the debate stage. i expect to be there. and i'm sure that donald trump will be there as well. >> ainsley: like brian said, there is a lot of talent on the republican side. i think the majority of penal don't know who they are going to vote for on the republican ticket. so what sets you aside from the other candidates, mainly desantis and donald trump? >> well, i'm the only candidate in the race with the level -- breadth of experience that i have both as governor but also in national security issues and then i'm the only candidate that has law enforcement experience. i have been a federal prosecutor ahead of the d.e.a. and we need to organize federal law enforcement agencies. make them challenges that we face and our streets and on public safety in our communities, and so i bring a level of experience on border security. reducing fentanyl and drug

challenges that we face in america. so, that sets me apart, as well as my vision and optimistic view of our country that we can get our economy back on track. that we can address the challenges at our southern border. and that there's a difference on our support for ukraine and i don't believe america should isolate itself. i think we are a world leader. we shouldn't deal that role to china. >> brian: governor, one thing clear. special moment when you announced. yesterday obviously for you, your family, and everything. i know that was a special moment for you. i watched it. the emotion was high, and you have a lot of people supporting you. when you look back at the four years of president trump, i heard marc thiessen and other people said governor sununu hey, he was a really good president, but his time is done. do you look at president trump's four years as did he do a good job in your eyes? >> well, i think he did a good job in many areas.

and, of course, i supported him for re-election in 2020 but there is also areas that disagree with him on. i think he created too much turmoil on the world stage. i think how he negotiated with the taliban was an error. and so these are the kind of mistakes or issues that we'll bring out during the debate. and there's differences. i think spending is a problem. i think there is a responsibility both on republican and democrat side for the fact that we have $31 trillion deficit today. while there are many issues that we agree upon, i do believe it's time for new leadership and new ideas in our party and our country. >> all right, governor, thanks so much. appreciate it. >> steve: joining us today from bentonville, arkansas. bigger home asa hutchison. >> brian: walmart. >> hand it over to ashley. >> >> first degree murder charges

>> ainsley: apparent win for house republicans. kevin mccarthy debt ceiling bill heads to the senate after passing the house yesterday. lucas tomlinson joins us now. >> big win for house speaker kevin mccarthy. last night he explained to sean hannity what's in the bill. >> what this bill limits say grow. you want to limit the ability the government to grow so fast like it did under democrats going forward. so we capped the growth at 1% each year for the next 10. woe save money by being smart. what we do is that money, billions of dollars sitting out there that covid never spent just sitting there, we cull that back. do you know what else we do? by limiting the amount we spend, we curve inflation that makes people stronger. >> now, the bill passed by just a narrow margin just two votes. the final 217-215. all democrats voted against it. mccarthy could only afford to lose four votes in narrow majority in the house and that's exactly how many republicans voted against it. here is some of what is in it.

cuts discretionary spending by $3.2 trillion over 10 years. the "wall street journal" editorial page points out that's out of 60 trillion in expected spending. and eliminates nearly all the 80 billion irs funding for those 87,000 agents. the u.s. government is now over $31 trillion in debt and the annual interest payments on that debt will soon be bigger than the defense budget each rear, ainsley? >> ainsley: wow. thank you so much. the group catholic vote is teaming up with judicial watch to sue the justice department and the fbi after the government failed to provide more information on a leaked memo which claims to show how the fbi was spying on people of faith. catholic vote president brian birch joins us with exclusive details. good morning to you, brian. >> good morning, ainsley, good to be with you. >> ainsley: great to have you on. why the lawsuit? >> well, we filed a freedom of information act request over a month ago. and so far the biden justice department and the fbi have refused to turn over legal

documents and communications that we are entitled to as american citizens. and so this morning when the courts open up, we have been left with no choice, and we will file a federal lawsuit against both the fbi and the department of justice ununcover what happened here. fbi is planning to spy on catholic churches and treat church goers as terrorists. >> ainsley: when a. garland was asked about this he said it was appalling it was instigated by a low level rogue agent within the fbi. congressman jordan's subpoena confirms it was actually approved by a senior intel analyst and distributed to field offices around the country. so garland saying one thing and finding out it's something different. he said that under oath it was a low level rogue agent. what happens? >> you are right. the attorney general said this was appalling head of the fbi

>> steve: all right. let's talk some politics. president biden claims he took a hard look at his age before launching his re-election campaign at 80. but the white house is ignoring his low polling numbers with the release of his prerecorded announcement video. so how much do voters care about the president's age? let's talk to people who think a lot about age. people my age, so-called senior voter panel. we have got former new hampshire senator judd greg joining us. we have a democratic voter and retiree linda who joins us from kansas city, kansas. and the american civil rights institute president ward connerly. good morning to all of you. >> good morning. >> steve: all right. i'm going to ask you all the same question. and, senator, we'll start with you. is joe biden too old? >> yes. probably. he would be 82 if he were

reelected and that would be, what, 86 if he served his full term you have to acknowledge at those ages cognitive ability slows considerably sometimes. and physical ability also slows. i remember when ronald reagan was elected that's how old we are. they said he was too old. and he was 67. he was a great president but, of course, at the end of his term he had very serious cognitive questions. so i think he was 15 years younger than biden would have been when he was elected. if he is reelected. there's no question but age is a factor here and i think most people with common sense admit that. >> steve: linda, what do you think? is joe biden too old? >> no, i don't think so he is. i think it sounds a little bit like ageism to me. because we're all different and at various ages we have different cognitive abilities.

>> steve: um-huh. >> i think he has shown in his two years and even before that he has shown that he has his faculties and is he quick on his feet. he can respond well. and i just don't see any indication that age should be that relevant. >> steve: well, you know, linda, just one quick question for you, over the last couple of years, when you think about joe biden from 20 years ago and we all remember him back then, is he as sharp today as he was then? that's because when you are commander-in-chief, that's what you worry about, is the guy with the nuclear football, is he sharp? >> well, i think he shows himself to be pretty sharp. he has done a very good job representing our country overseas. everybody respects him. and he surrounds himself with people -- people with character and knowledge and even if he were to slow down some, he has

got people around him that certainly can pick up the ball. >> steve: okay. all right. ward, you get the final word on this. is joe biden too old at 80? he would be 82 when he would be sworn in. >> well, i have a conflict of interest because i'm 83. [laughter] >> i and i think i could do a better job than him from a wheelchair. i just think that his ideology, is out of step with the mainstream of our country. he is a compromised man. he had to sell his soul to the progressives in order to be elected after having lost on two prior occasions. it's not with me a matter of age. it's a matter of his ideology and he is out of step. he would be great for the president of honduras or some place. but not the united states of america.

>> i don't think the suit has merit. i think it's political. they have no accountability and transparency, none of that. that arrangement was not good for the state of florida. we did not think that that should continue. so, we now have brought accountability. and so the idea that somehow being pro-business means giving companies their own governments, that is not what a free market is all about. the days of putting one company on a pedestal with no accountability are over. >> brian: wow, overnight, actually, two hours ago, governor ron desantis in israel hitting back at disney as the house of mouse files a lawsuit accusing him of, quote: government retaliation after he revoked the special tax privileges it has enjoyed for more than 50 years. florida attorney general ashley moody joins us now. so this thing is getting deeper and deeper, mr. attorney general. your reaction to this lawsuit?

>> well, you know, off the bat, i was puzzled that they would even name desantis as a defendant in this case. it was the florida legislature and central florida oversight board that took action that effectively eliminated special privileges or a self-governing authority of disney. it puzzled me and, you know, you wonder if it was an attempt by disney, maybe to put pressure on this governor to shut him up to make him stop talking about these privileges or maybe stop talking about their change and approach to kids. but. i can tell you i have spent a lot of time with this governor. he is driven by principles and convictions. period. not corporate pressure. not even a lawsuit against him. he won't back down. so i give these lawyers an a for effort. it was certainly creative legal

drafting, but i don't see this changing anything in the way desantis approaches his state in making sure that he is treating everyone fairly. >> brian: they say this is a targeted campaign of government retaliation. started came weighing in and mislabeled a bill don't say gay bill and it wasn't. why are you adjoining this autonomous status? i think i will take it away. they had this board before they dissolved themself reestablish this autonomous status. what is the move there to take that back away? >> where this really started you have leaders in the florida legislature that looked at whether these special districts should still be operating. those set up before our constitution address these special districts at a certain point in time. and i think really, this lawsuit, you know, they want -- they will assert and certainly they have done legal draftings

this has something to do with their free speech. really they are upset that the legislature took a reexamination of these special districts and when they were created and then took action that did away with self-governing status and special privileges. so, you know, again, there could be many reasons this lawsuit was brought. the court probably is because they are trying to protect or go against the florida legislature that made some decisions regarding these special districts. >> brian: right. i guess we are going to find out. do you guys have a legal move or just to defend yourself? is there something -- you are going to counter sue? >> well, certainly the governor has been named as a defendant as well as the central florida oversight board and another agency within our state. again, i will tell you i have been a judge, i have been a lawyer. i serve as the attorney general now. i don't believe the governor should be named as a defendant in this suit. i think there are probably other reasons for that move by

counsel. and certainly we will make sure that we put forth that argument. >> brian: but you're not stopping the fight. you are still looking to do, this get away from reedy creek and make them part of orlando? >> well, again, those -- that decision and leadership decision and how court of law comes out will be up to our legislative leaders. they are the ones that took this action and the central florida oversight board took action as well. that will be up to them. you know, the governor certainly is not going to back down from pointing things out. that's his job as governor, to talk about what is in the best interest of the state of florida. i can tell you he does that every day and will continue to do that. >> brian: attorney general ashley moody, thanks so much. >> of course. great to be with you. >> brian: this story is moving quick. go over to ashley for the news. >> i do. turning to your headlines. we will start in arizona. arizona hospital now preparing for a surge of migrants with title 42 expected to expire in exactly two weeks. the yuma regional medical center is the only hospital in the area
