>> brian: i don't know if he gave photo approval for that but it does work for this. alexandria hoff joins us now in washington. alexandria. >> brian, steve, rachel. according to gallup polling the rating is 53% approval rating. president biden coming in at 37% of americans approving of his performance right now. the last time it was this low was back in june of last year when that number was 38%. keep in mind this latest survey concluded the day that president biden announced his re-election campaign. so there are plenty of questions on how that can get turned around. buff it's how president biden prepares for questions from the press which had the white house on defense yesterday. it's after a cheat sheet of sorts was spotted in the president's hands. the image showed that a particular question would come from a specific "los angeles times" reporter. >> can you explain how that ended up there and why the president needed something like that? >> it is entirely normal for a president to be briefed on

reporters who will be asking questions at a press conference. and issues that we expect they might ask about. >> well, the "l.a. times" weighed in on this, too. writing our reporter did not submit any questions in advance of the q&a with president biden. as such, she is in regular contact with the white house press office seeking information for her reporting. you would have to ask the white house who prepared the document for the president and why they included that question. now, the question that the "l.a. times" reporter did ask did not exactly match what was seen on the card but the topic was the same. we'll send it back to you. >> steve: all right. alexandria thank you very much. and we were talking about this yesterday. and we said, you know, ultimately the "l.a. times" is going to have to explain and they said we did not coordinate with the white house. >> rachel: you can decide whether you believe that or not. >> brian: i decided. >> steve: the question was so close to the stuff we saw on the card it just looked kind of suspicious. >> brian: there you go. >> steve: looked like they were trying to protect the president as he rolls out this first week of his campaign. >> rachel: exactly.

biden, by gallup, the most encouraging thing for the people who run the white house and the campaign is the fact that joe biden has an 83% approval rating with democrats. that's why he is their man. >> rachel: even higher approval rating with liberal media. >> steve: he does. >> rachel: that explains a lot of the poll numbers. a lot of people feel like just he gets so much cover and support from the media. i mean, i'm still in shock about what we just talked about. but, that's the way it is these days. >> brian: for now. we'll see. i think it is telling that without actually almost any campaign marianne williamson has 9% of the vote. and r.f.k. 19% of the vote in a recent poll. maybe people want a choice on the left. the one big story where president biden has been ranking extremely low on is in immigration and the borders. and it is about to get a whole lot worse. in a matter of two weeks, title

were also going to give you preferential treatment. and also, if you claimed or identified as lgbtq. remember that was on the list of things that will give you. >> brian: that will help you come here? >> rachel: yes. >> brian: colombia is the other hub. >> steve: essentially images we are looking at where people have crossed the river and en masse as you can see there in brownsville, texas. the administration wants less of those. because the dhs wants less people crossing the river and, instead, they want you to use, if you are an illegal migrant heading our way, they want you to use the cbp 1 app. and then you make an appointment. and then you will -- they want to do mass parole grants, certainly. get all those people, you know, all you people, mass parole grant. now, here's the thing. when you look at it, and i was listening to brandon judd yesterday on the channel and what he said was, essentially, there are going to be stiffer penalties if you are caught coming into the country. >> brian: five years you can't

>> steve: while the federal government refuse does do anything, the state of florida is. they are poised. the state of florida's legislature is poised to pass a governor ron desantis backed very strict anti-illegal immigrant policy. essentially it would mandate full e verify for public and private employers, if you have got more than 25 employees. you have got to make sure everybody is in the country illegally. if not, there is a gigantic fine. the company can lose their license. if you're a small company. and you have just one that you will loads your license. and every single company caught with a single illegal, their license suspended and anybody who doesn't use the e verify is going to cost them $1,000 a day. so the people of florida will actually have tougher standards regarding illegal migration than the united states of america. >> brian: e verify has been around forever. they decided not to use it especially with certain democratic governors and with this as opposed to. so it could be -- we could be doing. this here's the other thing.

three army pilots dead and fourth fighting for his life after a helicopter crash over central alaska. officials say the helicopters collided on their way back to base. lucas tomlinson joins us live with the breaking developments. lucas, what have you learned. >> brian, the second deadly collision helicopters the last month. latest involves a pair of apache crash helicopters. the crash happened in alaska. let's take a look at the map. the collision took place between anchorage and fairbanks. the helicopters wainwright. apaches. the commanding general brian identify ler saying in a statement, quote. this is an incredible lots for these soldier's families, fellow soldiers and division. the fort wayne wright community one of the tightest communities i have seen in 32 years of service. i have no doubt they will pull together in exceptional time of need and provide comfort to the families of our fallen.

>> brian: lucas, thanks so much. another tragedy. not an easy day in the military and general jack keane knows that retired four star general, fox news strategic analyst chairman of the institute of study of war. general, your reaction to something like this. >> well, certainly, as the general indicated i mean, this is a tragic loss to be sure for the families and also for the troops that are serving every single day. it's a reminder, also, that the instruments of war can be as dangerous in peace time as they are in war. we have scores of military killed every single year practicing and preparing for war. that's the issue that they deal with every single day. it's also what gives them such enormous sense of satisfaction in carrying out their duties every single day. we don't know what the cause of this is, brian. i spent four years in alaska. it's a very challenging environmental place and one of the most beautiful places in the world to be frank about it. it either could be the

environment. it certainly could be a maintenance problem or a human factor involved in this. what i am convinced is we will get to the bottom of it. we will know what happened and what went wrong and that will be shared with pilots across the army and across the united states military at large. >> brian: talk about the action right now. there is a hot war going on in ukraine. a lot of people looking forward that are pulling for ukraine like me like hopefully the western world for offensive surge. we understand that nato has got 1500 combat vehicles and 230 tanks ready to go. what do those numbers mean to you? >> well, they are significant, taking a while to get there as we all know. a lot of this support was requested last year, so it's finally in ukraine's hands. the good thing that happened is united kingdom and united states military has been training the ukrainians for weeks on how to do this combat arms mission. that's going to take place here

and certainly training them on the vehicles that they have as well. they put together some 9 to 12 combined arms brigades that's mechanized infantry with tank armored vehicles. and they will be supported by artillery and on occasion overhead tack helicopters and overhead fighter aircraft after the times. they don't have the prolific means of doing that that the united states has. nonetheless, this is combined arms warfare. it's high end conventional war. and this is what we'll see unfolding here when ukraine is ready to pull that trigger. they have waited until they have been able to get the equipment and get the training done. you can imagine how complicated this is, brian. the equipment is coming from different countries, different types of equipment. different maintenance, different spare parts. >> brian: sure. >> different training that has to be conducted. so, integrating all of this together, while you are at war, is really a challenge. and you have got to take your

hats off to the ukrainians for what they are up against and their willingness and determination to get it done and, also, to the united states and our nato partners for getting them this equipment. should have been there sooner. but it's there now. and so the ukrainians are going to -- one thing we do know they will make the most out of it. >> brian: right. a year plus in, this is going to be the most decisive and impactful time in the war because people want to see and the ukrainians want to feel that they're making progress to take their country back. a little intriguing over the last few days, it seems like president xi of china has spoken with zelenskyy at the urging of french president macron. he's acting like a peacemaker. is this, indeed, possible. china going to call up vladimir putin and say pull out? that's the only scenario that would be effective. >> well, to be a peacemaker, you got to be neutral as a third party. and, obviously, xi is not neutral. i mean, he is all in supporting

putin. he is actually agreed with putin that nato is the reason why this war is started and we know that's a false narrative complete completely. democratic independent country and president xi has sided with the russians and russia is committing genocide and it's a brutal war that they are inflicting on the civilian population. it's hard for him though be neutral in this and see any positive outcome. why-what's his motivation here? i think his motivation is to get closer to the europeans. i mean, the europeans have been pulling back from china economically as a result of what has taken place with xi signing sidingwith russia. he wants to get credit in terms of him being on a world stage and exercising diplomacy. you saw what he was able to do in bringing saudi arabia and iran together. he got a lot of credit for that i think that's what he is attempting to do here.

>> you know, for me, safety is the priority. you know, as we move through these -- this process and we make changes and we reimagine public safety. >> steve: reimagining public safety. how has that gotten them. asheville, north carolina has come a long way from defunds the police department 2020 reimagining things starting may 1st of this year the tourist town is launching a public safety initiative focusing on getting more police on the streets to combat a surge in violent crime. our next guest owns a restaurant, a bunch of businesses there. and he has firsthand seen how bad it's gotten. asheville resident and business owner anthony joins us live from asheville. anthony, good morning. >> good morning, sir. >> steve: anthony, you know, so your town reimagined the police department. how did that all work out?

>> well, it was kind of a surprise to us that, you know, the citizens of the city. and, you know, our engine, our economic engine is the service industry. you know, whether it's breweries, whether it's restaurants. you know, we are in the blue ridge mountains, we get around 11 million people a year that come for the outdoors experiences as well where there is biking or fishing. you know, and we just wanted to be safe for our community, our residents and also our -- the travelers that come and visit us. >> steve: sure, absolutely. i understand. so, on may 1st, after crime has gone up in your town and your town is beautiful, by the way. may 1st, the city of asheville kicking off a new downtown safety initiative over 60 days, two months. what it will do is increase the police presence in parks and public spaces. launch community responder pilot program where the fire department is going to remove litter, needles and wastes. tourists hate taking pictures of

those get rid of gravity and graffiti andidentify dark streey are brighter. one of the problems and you have seen this firsthand, anthony, is when you reimagine the police and you defund the police you wind up with fewer cops on the ground. we understand that. but, ultimately, response time from the time you call 911 goes way up. so do you think this is going to help you guys with that? >> >> i really do. you know, i'm kind of proud of our chief. i know he has had a difficult time because he inherited the department as the numbers were going down. you are right, it's a numbers game. there are so many officers covering some things, less officers, less opportunity to find out, you know, the people that are misbehaving or being bad actors. so it is a numbers game. we can't hire our way back out of the problem. we're down 100 officers. takes a long time to train, you know, our officers refill those

ranks. we, as a community, kind of had to step up and that's the nonprofits, for profits, people that own businesses, own property, and just, you know, kind of raise our hand and say this is a untenable situation. we want you to listen to us. and niece initiatives they have done very proud one of the other ones was asheville fire department and they are setting up kind of a decentralized clinic away from the main firehouse which is about 3 or 4, you know, about 40 yards from where one of my restaurants are. and that's very good. because, you know, we have people that are reacting, you know, to, you know, drug addiction and they associate behaviors real easy to have those ambulances there. and those paramedics. also with the county. the county and the city is doing that the county also sheriff's department is starting to do joint patrol initiatives with asheville police department to kind of augment and supplement
