dinner or the met gala? >> this year the met gala for sure. >> dana: all right. i think i would go to d.c. actually. i would be so out of place at the met. can you imagine? i don't know. i could serve drinks at the met. i am not material for the red carpet. >> bill: good people watching. >> dana: i would watch all the people. i wouldn't want to be one of the people. >> bill: i work with sandra today at 1:00 and give j.r. the day off today with his family. >> dana: harris faulkner is here as always. "the faulkner focus" here it goes. >> harris: fox news report now secretary of state antony blinken caught in some trouble. allegations that the nation's highest diplomat crafted a letter to protect the biden family. it was that now infamous document used to discredit the existence of hunter biden's laptop. and it matters because the truth about that laptop and what would
8:01 am
have been on it may have affected a presidential election. i'm harris faulkner and you are in "the faulkner focus." it was weeks before the 2020 presidential election. 51 intelligence officials signed that letter. the letter called the laptop by hunter biden russian disinformation. in an exclusive interview, the then campaign advisor says he had nothing to do with it. >> with regard to that letter, i didn't -- wasn't my idea, didn't ask for it or solicit it and i think the testimony that the former deputy director of the c.i.a. mike morrell put forward confirms that? >> do you except it is not russian disinformation? >> i am not engaging in politics. i have a lot of my agenda. things we just talked about.
8:02 am
>> harris: mike morrell testified blinken was the impetus for the statement. house republicans demanding information on the original letter. who crafted it in total? the deadline for blinken and others thursday for that information. blinken's denial says more ties between him and hunter biden are coming to light. new reporting says antony blinken and his cabinet secretary weiss tried to influence government officials on behalf of burisma. that's that ukrainian energy company that hunter biden was sitting on the board of. oversight chairman james comer now accusing hunter's attorneys of obstructing his committee's investigation. >> in communication with our witnesses and with people who are cooperating from a subpoena standpoint, we know that they've been contacted by the attorneys for hunter biden.
8:03 am
we feel that this is really close to crossing the line. obviously their objective is witness intimidation. this will not stand. we are going to continue to press forward. >> harris: get this. congress says there is a something going on that's actually helping out his investigation. information coming out of hunter biden in an arkansas courtroom. that's this week. it started yesterday. it is a personal matter having to do with alleged child support payments that he wants lowered. he hasn't been paying them. we're on the job today via our star reporter at the white house peter doocy. peter, just tying all this together is mystery enough. at the center is a man with a whole lot of power now, the secretary of state. >> yes. and there are all these investigations in d.c. they are hoping to get some information from this arkansas courtroom that can help them out. the heart of hunter biden's argument turns out to be that he
8:04 am
doesn't have much money. they claim that he even slept on a cot in his dad, the president's room on a recent trip to ireland and why they want the child support payment lowered from $20,000 per month. >> hunter biden -- >> i have no comment on that one. i have no comment on that, either. >> the prosecutors reached out to you -- >> it's well-known she had an interview with the district attorney for the district of delaware and testified before the grand jury. other than that, that's all i'm able to discuss. >> a judge is compelling hunter biden's financial record. once collected house republicans claim if they can get their hands on them they could help a lot. >> we want to know how much money he has made from the art and who the buyers are.
8:05 am
that's the most important part. who the buyers are. we fear they are the same ones laundering the money into the l.l.c.'s, particularly the chinese communist party and secondly we want to know if hunter biden has any off shore accounts. >> the white house hasn't said anything yet about this case in arkansas. and to put a button on it, we don't know if president biden has ever met his granddaughter at the heart of this case. harris. >> harris: peter doocy, what a web. thank you. jason chaffetz, fox news contributor, former republican congressman for utah. great to see you. the personal web is unfortunate timing for hunter biden because that investigation could bring about whatever it is they don't even know they are looking at right now. the bigger issue is how the country may have suffered because of something that the secretary of state did. what is your take? >> well first of all as it relates to the money, hunter biden is the one that took them
8:06 am
to court to try to reduce the payment. he asked for this. he is getting it. and i think they will get to the bottom of this. i thought the secretary of state wordsmith was careful to say he is not engaged in politics is laughable. first of all, we're talking about before joe biden was elected president. that was his primary goal and job in life was to be as political as he could to elect joe biden. he was 100% political at the time this letter was produced. and to suggest that anything otherwise is just pretty laughable. he says according to mike morrell, the c.i.a., he was the impetus. now, the secretary of state is saying it wasn't his idea. somebody else comes up with the idea and you participate in drafting the letter, which may be, we don't know, or you are out there pushing to get the 51 people signing up on it, then you are pretty much ingrained on
8:07 am
this. senator johnson from wisconsin asked some very direct questions when he was going to be confirmed. i think the rub right now is he lied to congress. he lied to the united states senate in order to secure his position and get the votes necessary to become the secretary of state. >> harris: you know, jason, when you look at this total picture, you put it so succinctly. hunter biden has now brought on a new wave of difficulty for himself through this whole i've got to prove that i make far less money than i did and i didn't really make money off my heart work. because of that, money around hunter biden is a key issue. the original money, though, had to do with the shady business deals with countries like china. this is so circular. when does the president start to have to answer to any of this? or do we not get to that point? >> well, because the media won't ask him the question. he doesn't make himself available for an interview.
8:08 am
he rarely does a press conference. if he does it's two questions. and so yeah, he will continue to go on and pretend that he has never had a conversation according to the president, with his son about his overseas business dealings, never. that's the president's standard by this. but you know what? there is no direct evidence, there is no evidence that hunter biden has di vested himself from bhr. that's the big one out of china where there are millions of dollars that have flowed. the reporting shows that there is $31 million that have gone to the biden family. and if you are saying that you have di vested yourself from bhr, prove it, document, put it out there. thus far the white house and hunter biden never done that. >> harris: new question from me for the president, are you talking with your son now about the shady business deals? because as a parent, you think you would perk up and say tell me what the heck happened.
8:09 am
let's move on. treasury secretary janet yellen with a stark warning that president biden has to pay to now. and meet with republicans. yellen announced yesterday the united states will run out of cash flow as early as june 1st. that default date is now adding some new urgency to the bitter debt battle in washington. for months president biden has refused to negotiate, meet at all over this with republicans in a substantive way and they did their jobs. they got a debt and spending bill passed and just yesterday said this. >> over 200 years america has never, ever, failed to pay its debt. to put it in terms america is not a deadbeat nation. we pay our bills and we should do so without reckless hostage taking from some of the maga republicans in congress. >> harris: listen to that kind
8:10 am
of talk from the president of the united states. negotiating with the other side is hostage taking part on their side. that's his job. he represents an entire nation. even the people who didn't vote for him. somebody tell him. hours later he invited the top four leaders in congress for a white house sit-down on may 9th. speaker mccarthy says he has accepted. republicans have laid out their plan, as i mentioned, and pass the house bill to rein in rampant federal spending and lift the debt limit. schumer has no plans to bring it to the floor for a vote. jason. >> yeah, mr. president, it's so urgent that you are going to wait for another week in order to have the first meeting in the sit-down. i don't believe the treasury secretary that june 1st the country runs out of money. that's a total fake number and everybody in washington knows it. joe biden said we'll never talk
8:11 am
about this. that was an absurd position that he had to go back on that. the republicans all were united. every single one of them voted for a bill that raised the debt ceiling. it was the democrats that voted against that. so mr. schumer, mr. senate majority leader, why not put it up for a vote? if it's so bad and its hostage taking as the president says, then put it up for a vote and it will fail. but it is not. i think they all know that democrats will vote for this if given a chance in the senate and it will pass. >> harris: you think they will. >> i think manchin and sinema and others would vote for it and it would pass. >> harris: manchin better. he can't trust his own party now. they lied to him about the inflation reduction act, which is a climate bill at best. jason, thank you very much for getting us started this hour. appreciate it. >> thank you. >> harris: white house hopeful nikki haley doubling down on her call for competency testing for
8:12 am
older politicians including the one in the white house. she is calling on 89-year-old senator dianne feinstein of california resign. something nancy pelosi called sexist. and the call for common sense when it comes to life-altering treatments for children. >> you can't get a tattoo before you are 18 but you are supposed to change genders because you feel that way. let's wait until you are a little older. >> harris: the bitter political divide over trans surgeries is becoming one of the hottest 2024 issues. ambassador haley in "focus" next. -oh, hi! -you're in a hurry. i'm off to america's best i heard what you said about not overpaying for glasses. two pairs and a free, quality eye exam starting at just $79.95? yes! the exam alone is worth... 59 bucks. which is great, because i hate getting overcharged. you have no idea. i mean, people deserve breaks, right? yeah, brakes...! permanent politician will finally retire. we'll have term limits for congress. [cheers and applause] and mandatory mental competency tests for politicians over 75 years old. [cheers and applause] >> harris: boy, i tell you, ambassador nikki haley made some serious waves with that proposal when she launched her campaign in february. the competency issue has been front and center since the president announced his re-election bid one week ago today. first lady jill biden defending joe biden. >> nikki haley, one of the republican candidates, is calling for mental competency tests for those politicians over the age of 75. what do you think about that? >> ridiculous. >> would your husband every take one of those? >> we haven't even discussed it.
8:19 am
we wouldn't even discuss something like that. >> harris: that's not exactly a no. look at what the democrats are doing. some are calling for senator dianne feinstein of california to resign. she missed dozens of votes and out with an illness for two months. she is 89 years old. ambassador haley says at 89 years old she is a prime example of why we need mental competency tests for politicians. nikki haley in "focus" now. great to see you. all right. so how are the two arguments different? is this about age, is this about competency or both? >> you know, it is not about age, sexism or anything. it is about transparency and about the fact that republicans and democrats deserve to know whether the people they send to d.c. are at the top of their game. look at the decisions being made. this is about the national security of america.
8:20 am
this is about economic -- the economic future for our children. it is about the educational future. we need to know people are up at the top of their game. here you have biden last week, harris, he didn't even know where he was the week before. a little child had to tell him that. he doesn't know how many grandchildren he has. now we see hunter is not paying child support and i get why he is confused about that. this is about the fact that we have to make sure that people are up to their mental fitness to be able to make these decisions. i don't care if you do it at 50 or over. don't the american people deserve transparency to say they're at the top of the game? the competency tests are simple. name things starting with the same letter. what month and day it is. this is a serious issue because we all now know a vote for president biden is a vote for president harris. that's not, you know, hurting anybody's feelings or being
8:21 am
disrespectful. it's a fact. >> harris: and the fact is he would be 82 on inauguration day. you talk about the vice president, kamala harris, there in the wings as her job as v.p. then as you approach the end of that potential second term, he would be 86. that is up in age and the stress on that job is huge. one last word about what is going on across the aisle, though. why is it not okay for you to talk about competency testing, but it is okay for democrats, some of them, to say it's time for dianne feinstein at 89 to go? >> it's interesting. they are doing that politically because they're worried their judges aren't getting through. they want to focus on the fact that she should stay. let's call it for what it is. i've always spoken hard truths. if you are 89 years old, if you are unable to function. if you are unable to do your job, it is in the best interest of your constituents but in the best interests of the country
8:22 am
you step down. she has had a wonderful career and i respect all the years that she has put in. this is exactly why i'm for term limits and mental competency tests over the age of 75. we have never had a problem like we have now with $31 trillion in debt. with illegal immigration out of control. with our kids having trouble in school, with the idea that crime is at ridiculous levels. the foreign policy that as weak as we've ever seen it. we can't afford to worry about hurting people's feelings. we can't afford to sit there and play the seniority or political games. we have a country to save and protect america. we need to get to work to do that. >> harris: interesting that some democrats on the other side. aisle want her to resign politics come into play but they're split on this. they won't touch the man in the white house who, as you gave some recent examples, for why perhaps testing wouldn't be a bad idea. they don't want to touch that.

the issue of transgender treatments for children seems to be going right to the top as we do the run-up for 2024. it is getting hotter by the day. biden's assistant secretary for health kicked off adolescent health month by promoting resources on, quote, sexual and reproductive health. devine is transgender and supported child sex changes. last year she said transgender youth are supported at the highest levels of the administration. the political divide is crystal clear. the growing number of red states are enacting laws restricting or banning trans treatment for children. look at the map. more and more blue states are making laws that mandate minors access to trans treatments even without the knowledge of their very own parents. look at the map. i know your rival for the 2024 nomination vivek ramaswamy made his position very clear.

>> below the age i think it is perfectly legitimate to say we won't allow genital mutetation. gender disinformation yeah for most of our history through the dsm5 is characterized as a mental health disorder. if that is what they think their child could pursue happiness. >> parents feel that way. no doubt that the cultural movement in this country, even education is creating more gender dysphoria. >> harris: how do you insert your voice in this conversation? >> first of all, look at how ridiculous it is we're focusing on a small minority of kids and taking away the emphasis from the majority of kids who need help. i spoke to a senior in high school last week saying she is scared to speak because there is so much conversation about transgender conversations in school that they're scared to

say anything for or against. if you have to be 18 to get a tattoo and that's permanently changing your body, you have to be 18 to get a costco card. why do we talk about changing genders before the age of 18? why can't we wait until that child is an adult to make the decision for themselves. that's common sense. why are we even having this conversation? let's talk about the fact that 80% -- 70% of our eighth graders around the country are not proficient in reading and 67% not proficient in math and how will we graduate our kids. why are we talking about a small minority of kids that you make sure you go and prop them up to make them make permanent bodily decisions that are not even at the level that they can handle that decision yet? it is child abuse at this point. more than that, it is distraction and goes to show when america is distracted the world is less safe. we're seeing this. we have these ridiculous

would cut 2400 border security agents. we have to have a realistic conversation about crime in the community and surge resources but to the justice department and law enforcement. >> harris: i want to get charlie's voice in here. >> i don't really know what you are talking about but we do know this. democrats have been the party that has supported defunding police and smearing all police as being racist and somehow a problem in communities. the bottom line is that these policies have -- and the lax on crime policies have created this situation. in particular in large american cities. it is a real problem. nobody wants to live in crime-ridden places whether you are a democrat or republican. but you are not going to find any sort of republican or conservative policies that leads to this.

will the agents be able to do? are they processing more people who hope to come in illegally? >> unfortunately, harris, i think that is what they will be doing. and as we listen to those very misleading numbers coming out of the white house, i think what they are doing is just as the drug cartel is instructing those migrants to do, they are coming across the border and claiming asylum, which means those border patrol agents will have to process them. however, we know that most of those folks they are taken into the united states and never to be seen again. so it's very unfortunate. we've seen 5.5 million illegal immigrants come into this country since president biden took office. >> harris: senator, we could spend all day. nine days from now we may have to get back together because i know how that is going to look. it already looks pretty bad. republicans are tearing into democrats on the senate judiciary committee. right now holding a hearing on

u.s. supreme court ethics reform. it comes one year after the leak of the roe memo that sparked days of protest outside justice's homes and even an assassination attempt on brett kavanaugh. lindsey graham with harsh words for colleagues across the aisle. here they are. >> we can talk about ethics and that's great. we're also going the talk about today of a concentrated effort by the left to delegitimize this court and take all the shots that the conservative justices you want to take. you can picket before their houses and it won't stop people from doing their job. it put people at risk, their personal safety at risk. if you want to talk about making the court a better institution, i'll be glad to work with you in that regard. if you want to talk about destroying the court, count me out. >> harris: senator. >> yes. and what we see is that we need
8:53 am
a separation of powers obviously. that's the way our country was founded. and so let's allow the supreme court to take a look at their own ethics rules and we saw nine justices come together to support their ethics rules. so i think that's important. we allow them to do it. i have full confidence in chief roberts. but i do want to plug senator marsha blackburn's bill which would increase the penalties allowed for those that are trying to intimidate our supreme court justices. because with everything that we have seen go on over the course of the past couple of years, we find now that with various situations our supreme court justices are being threatened, we have people protesting if front of their houses, and we want to make sure that we are protecting those justices. so that they aren't being influenced unduly. >> harris: amen. anything else would be
8:54 am
unacceptable and should be and must be. senator, quickly before i have to let you go, you have been very critical of the administration's pan to fully electrify the military fleet by 2030. tell us why. >> overall i'm very critical of this administration period. but when it comes to the department of defense, they are trying to take our non-tactical vehicle fleet and transition to all electric by 2030. instead of focusing on the -- we have gone woke with our vehicles in the d.o.d. >> harris: how will we plug them all in? we can't plug in stuff in california including the electric cars and only 6% of them on the road? >> that's a great question. i think most americans would agree this is not what our department of defense needs to focus on. let's make sure we do the right thing by the men and women in uniform and making sure we are training them appropriately and we're outfitting them for

survivability not going and bowing to those greenies on the far left. >> harris: i had no idea read enes came with a bicycles when your e.v. can't charge. we didn't know what was happening with it and all the rest. great to see you. thank you. thank you for watching "the faulkner focus."
