all the time and it doesn't cross your mind that oh, you could be in this situation. >> early afternoon around probably 2:00 notices started coming through work and through our cell phones and just media outlets the shooter might be in smyrna area. >> i saw 12 police cars. the school was going crazy. they were going into lockdown. >> rob of our atlanta affiliate mass the breaking details on the suspected gunman in custody. good evening, rob. >> hey, good evening. such a chaotic and terrifying area in the atlanta area after the accused fled from the scene leading to and eight hour manhunt. the 24-year-old dio fl patterson was caught in cobb county up i-75.

from the air we saw police take him into custody and to apd headquarters is investigators say around noon he walked into this medical office with a handgun and began shooting. cops say he killed 39-year-old amy st. pierre and hurt others ranging in age from 25-71, the mayor praising law enforcement for catching the guy. >> right now, we've had a successful end to a traumatic day. and today is a day that we can go home and rest easy that the individual that caused harm in our community is under arrest. >> investigators say patterson spent about two minutes in that medical office, then stole a truck left running at a gas station about a block from here. they tracked that truck using highway cameras and found he drove to the battery where the

braves play. police say he dumped the truck and ran into a people called 911. >> kept second guessing myself how long he had been at large and how much after coordinated search was on with the police. >> city leaders credited the public technology and police teamwork catching him saying the cameras played a big role catching him and leading to his arrest after he spent 8 hours at large. >> what more have we learned about this suspect? police haven't revealed much yet. coast guard says he entered the service in 2018, discharged this past january. his mother says the medicine v.a. doctors described him led to quote mental instability

going on. we will be sure to learn more. >> rob from atlanta thanks. let's get some expert analysis of the situation in atlanta from former fbi executive assistant director joshua. welcome. >> thanks for having me. >> let's start with sound from the deputy chief and you'll react to it. >> the under cover officer was the one that originally saw and confronted this individual and was able to then have backup from uniform officers that came in and took him into custody without incident. it does not work without a cooperative community. a community that backs up the police that allows the police to take risks and try to take violent people into custody. >> how impressed are you by the teamwork of law enforcement that brought this guy in alive? >> i'm very impressed by first the tactical response to the situation also that's a very

busy downtown area, a lot of area to search and a lot of information coming in. lot of times those first several hours is controlled chaos, trying to stop the shooting find the suspect and geting a lot of reporting and digital media that need to be coordinated. >> technology a key with cameras everywhere and everybody walking around with a samoan basically could be an amateur detective. right? >> absolutely but it's so key to law enforcement to not only get witness statements video recordings but also it was reported there's about 3,000 cameras in atlanta being able to quickly go through that video footage determine where the suspect search and work out wards which helped law enforcement at large determine his location. >> atlanta a major metropolitan area in the heart of business day what kind of nightmare is that for law enforcement to find this guy, needle in haystack?

>> it is incredibly arduous search to go through. you have to make every nook and cranny is searched and as you saw a lot of parking structures, places to hide. what really stood out to me is they quickly involved technology and started searching those cameras to determine where he had gone because as we saw mike they lifted that lock order very quickly afterwards which led to go information he stole a car and left the area. >> how complete a picture of this guy do you think law enforcement has at this hour? >> i think it's growing. they have to determine where he got the handgun what is his background and why he did this. >> joshua thank you. >> thank you. >> appreciate it. texas police have released a mug shot of the 38-year-old illegal immigrant accused of murdering 5 neighbors, francisco was apprehended about 20 miles from

in kellogg's or sewage damage. alex how do you assess this one? yeah, the problem is the product doesn't do what it says it's going to do. i was sceptical when i first saw reporting on this but when i read the complaint i thought it was pretty detailed. there's a number of examples of tests and like you mentioned some of these wipes don't dissolve or if they do it takes hours, the plaintiff cites economic damage that this is 25 percent more expensive than other wiepgs and the cost across the nation to repair these types of sewage problems from these wipes could be i think it's more than $400 million. there's also one part of the packaging that on the back there's a warning about what types of systems that you can't flush and it's under a fold so i think the claim is deceptive and it should be out front so people know right away. >> exhibit b the package

disclaimer says not all systems can accept flushable wildcats. lexi is that enough warning? >> these things clog the court system ang stink. so the plaintiff's are basically ledging that flushable must mean to the consumer flushable in any circumstance that could ever be contemplated and that's not what it means. it says flushable and the difficulties claim iris clear about the circumstances when you can and can't flush them and that's like other products in our house. you take a can of bug spray out medicine or food the bug stray a disclaimer says if you injest call poison kromtd and you look at food and it might say made in a facility that uses tree nuts so it's not uncommon for disclaimers to be prominently displayed but it's displayed and

explains it and you know, what is funny is that i had no idea before i read this complaint how little i actually knew about the wipes industry and take my word for it, there's a lot to learn but the complaint goes into a lot of wishes the wipe industry itself but it relies on studies and product studies investigative reporting on wipes and doesn't actually discuss the wipes that were purchased at stop and shopped and just to put the financial damages into context he's literally talking about a difference of one cent between the non-flushable wipes and flushable wipes so to add more punch to this, doesn't hold award and they need to wipe their hands of it and move on. >> nicely done. >> thank. >> i like to know at this hour of the night who is going to win who is going to lose and alex your thoughts. >> i think this one i think could go on. i got to have a shot more so
