>> all right straight to a fox news alert. eight people are killed and seven others are hurt after shooting at an outlet mall in alan, texas, yesterday. [sound of gunfire] >> the gunman was shot and killed by a police officer who happened to be nearby. while responding to an unrelated call. >> alexandria joins us now.
5:01 am
alexandria. >> good morning medical city health care is treating the victims and over and over again is their first thought is please let there not be any kids whorm hurt. the ages of those injured rages from 61 to five years old. no information has been released on the individuals who died on the scene as of yet 2378 >> rescue task force teams found seven desees individuals on scene. we transported nine individuals to the hospital to area trauma facilities. of those that we transported, two have since died three are in critical surgery and four are stable. >> so this all started after 3:30 yesterday a male shootser described as heavy set and wearing all black open fire at the alan premium outlets 30 miles west of dallas and dozen shots reported as employees and
5:02 am
shoppers scramble for safety. >> unrelated call he heard gunshots located the gunshot, located the shootser, neutralized shooter neutralized the threat. we believe at this point that the shooter acted alone. >> yeah. >> we spoke to dominic he rushed to outlets knowing that his sister-in-law was there. >> i heard a gunshot, and we just all rush to the back. we're all freaking out like what's going on and i had to go back to front lock the door that's when i saw cops all coming in. helicopter coming in s.w.a.t. team going on what's going on and then happen, down a second time and this time for real we're in the back gots safe. >> at the shooting at the time let's also try to hear from dominic to see how he felt trying to rush to the scene to find his sister-in-law. >> my wife and i actually went
5:03 am
over there immediately and by picked her up and i just saw guess a thousand to 2,000 people that were standing in the hot sun. it was 92 degrees. it was, i mean, people just crying, hugging being reunited with their loved ones something i will never forget. >> there was a statement from texas governor greg abbott released as well that says our hearts are with the -- with the people of alan, texas tonight during unspeakable tragedy i've been in contact with mayor and state and local leaders and offer full support of the state of texas to local official tones sure that all smans and resources are swiftly deployed once again you heard police there had neutralized this suspect. that means he was killed on site. no possible motive in this has been released at this time. will rachel, pete. rachel: thank you alexandria thank god there was a police officer who happened to be on
5:04 am
the scene not called for that reason. but there armed ready to help i can't imagine how worse this could have gotten. >> i made mistake of seeing videos who are risk of -- whowho are description of the shooter not from our community. this outdoor -- this alan jot let mall is outdoor it is huge, very big, you know, geographic area. and the reason i bring that up is you know, i've seen some of the video of kind of how this took place where the shooter was. and he had -- it appears that he had assault rifle if a police officer just happened to be in the area he was articled with nothing but a side arm and to take him down in a wide open space not easy to approach him -- you know, and to take him down with a service revolver or service weapon. >> whatever he's got.
5:05 am
quite a feat. to the point of size of this. it is a big outdoor shopping mall so just because he was on location dupght mean he was necessarily nearby so you hear shots going off on the video. it is a lot of shots going off in short period of time. whoever -- >> shooter is wearing body armor whoever responded had to get there then approach -- probably outgunned do you wait, that's where you get into as you wait for him to reload and shootser try to go inside and always outside? and again i think this morning we all have the inclination to go back to motive not that this person deserves to be understood but want to understand how they got access to whatever they got access to hopefully we get that information sooner rather than later. rachel: the public needs that information and need to be forthright because we don't want more of this to happen again. where they're from, toxicology, family history, we need it all
5:06 am
that's the way to deal with this. >> texas i believe it is a constitutional carry site so presumably could have been armed services nearby. will: no doubt. >> that leads to our next story which was a citizen who took action, and maybe that wasn't the case in this example. but we -- this news comes after the news of what happened in the new york city subway this week where there was a -- an unruly passenger on the subway system who had multiple previous arrests. his name is jordan neely and a marine veteran you know the story you've seen it. subdued him on the ground with a choke hold unfortunately neely was ultimately -- died because of it. but now the question is, does this marine vet yet prosecuted for that and the protest happening in new york city not because of what happened per se
5:07 am
but pointing out that victim here is the homeless person who was harassing and potentially assaulting people on the train. and the criminal is the one who stepped in to do something. rachel: that's increasingly what we see happening these days where the people who are the victims and in this case -- maybe even a hero. is now the bad guy. will: what is on the screen is protesters took over a new york city subway system they were on the tracks stopped a train car, and then when the train sort of halfway made its way into the station, they blocked the subway doors and wouldn't let anyone off of the train cars. the interaction you saw a moment ago was people trying to get off the train cars saying i need to get got to get to work and protesters saying too bad. you know, find another -- that's it right there. the black man inside the train is saying hey you have to let me out i have to get to work and all of these people on outside are yelling at him and shovings him back into the train so you see the protest -- pete: doing nothing. will: and protesters you know i
5:08 am
don't know if attacked got physical with the cops. shoving them back, the mob shoving back the cops. you know, and to your point peter what you brought up the story has been turned into a race story because marines white and neely is black and that leads people like -- alexandria cortez to just feed that fire, feed flames of that tension with tweets like the following -- watching media give the brock turner treatment if you'll remember the stanford swimmer a rape case. i don't know -- five plus years ago. so he's getting the brock turner treatment aoc says for killing of a homeless man that's been nos yachting with a record does not excuse killing them neither does being poor, sick or homeless and we are closer to being in neely shoes than we think and our country will make it impossible to afford rent on minimum wage job and when
5:09 am
wealthy break the law they rarely get records they can afford to be treated favorably while most of us cannot. by the way, the most ridiculous part of what she had to say was in that tweet she's on numerous occasions said this was murder. smored a very specific term it means something. it's not just -- homicide is a different tomorrow. murder is the implication that what happened here was the intentional killing of a human being. and aoc has no way of knowing that and totally tearing at the fabric of america by jumping beyond what she could possibly know to try to divide us once again on the basis of race. ming that's what she's best at we're going get more details on what happened here and she said -- any of us could be jordan neely well any of us could be passengers who felt threatened in that subway car and whining whining -- when i go up here and try to look at the cultural implication of what we're seeing happen here
5:10 am
is we're encouraging people who could potentially protect, defend, other people courageous young men, we're encourage them not to step forward because if you step forward and if you protect those who were more vulnerable, this is what happens. i was in madrid once with my husband. and a member of congress friend of his, and we were robbed you know, and in our hotel lobby. and my husband's instant reaction ran after the guy got back what the guy stole and when he did that he pulled jacket and guy escaped by escaping his jacket. we had his jacket, and inside was his wallet so we knew what it was and went to hotel people and said this is who it is, and they said this was i don't know ten years ago. they said oh don't bother no one to arrest here this is what we're devolving into because nothing happens to criminals and those who step in and try to fill that gap are ones who are now turned into criminals and i
5:11 am
think it has huge implications for -- for those of us who like women who are vulnerable in situations like. pete: the defense that daniel the marine corps. veteran will use you want to know this and stepped in and used a hold he was trained to use and didn't want to keel him and meant to subdue him and went too far that is a pretty common defense of someone taking action you're right there's such a -- disincentive against that makes everyone's lives -- rachel: insenive it is to film and do nothing and film on your phone. pete: walk away. i think i saw -- rachel: with the cop in the subway car he was filming as well and instead of subduing so yeah. pete: bring in fox news anchor and chief spongt shannon bream let's set aside hyperbole the legal merts how this will be handled. what do you think? >> what's hard is listening to
5:12 am
people past each other. jordan neely was failed by the system he was 14 when his mother was murdered by all accounts that's when he started devolving into real trouble with mental illness homelessness and people tracking him said he became a heavy drug user he was clearly struggling but you can also put that on the plate along with fact that this retired marine was trying to do what he thought was the right thring with no intention to end jordan neely's life all of those things can be actually true whether this goes to grand jury and what alvin bragg decides to do we have to watch and wait. you see a video and part of the story there had to be many other witnesses i imagine that police talked or to or will try to talk to legal part of this case. but you know like rachel, i have been on the receiving end of this behavior and it is frightening very first day i was internal in college a young woman here in washington, i had a similar situation on the subway with a guy sitting next
5:13 am
to me who was saying i'm going to take out people on this train i'm going to kick this person in the face he's muttering things i'm trying to be grownup i can handle this but my first day on the subway here in washington i was terrified looking around to see if anybody was going help me and when we got to next stop a group of people pushed him off the train to get rid of him. luckily no physical encouragement other than that but i looked around and almost burst into tears thanking these people because i thought am i by myself as a young woman with no one to help me i know what that el toos like as a woman. but i don't know what jordan neely's life was like i don't know what he was going through but certainly there's got to be room for conversation compassion for him. but also compassion for this marine who thought he was driengt thing and trying to protect other people. will: you're right shannon and it's pretty shocking that aoc would be dismissive of an experience that you described that while terrifying for you is
5:14 am
unfortunately not unique to your life anyone who has lived in new york has had that -- every day that experience happens all of the time i lived here 15 years you get on the train you almost become a little to it someone will get on and they're going say really threatening things and make like this car is about to spill into violence. >> you just don't know and most will rye to not make eye contact. try to just get to the next stop. it is a regular occurrence as you said there in new york. rachel: we need to live in a country where we raise boys to be brave and courageous and protectors and i think this situation, however, this unfolds and whatever happens to the young marine is going to set a powerful message not just to men who might possibly help but to mommas raising them saying do i want to raise my kid to be that protecter or present him from being thrown in jail for doing the right thing very fascinating question shannon. >> we know you have to be to go fox news sunday who is at 2:00?
5:15 am
>> governor greg abbott with us to talk about title 42 and in wake of the shooting in texas we'll talk about this with him as well. also congressman henry democrat there down along border and talking debt ceiling showdown that meeting at the white house. >> all right shannon looking forward to it. meanwhile bag to politics, there's a report that governor ron desantis of florida will not announce an exploratory committee ahead of what's expected to be an official announcement in june that he will run for president. this is coming as a new poll shows hypothetical matchup between desantis and biden. let me see it shows matchup trump being ahead so -- >> a little confusing. if it were trump there you go 38% would definitely vote republican. 32% which desantis overturns
5:16 am
the argument a lot of desantis supporters are making which says he's more elect nbl a general. that number would say no that talking point isn't at this point accurate. it is really interesting that they're moving this up. i think it is -- a response to the fact that the quasicampaign numbers have tanked in the process from the book tour to touring early states. to the ads on tv, i mean, they're to the response to trump's indictment it has not gone well for the noncampaign campaign of ron desantis as trump numbers go up so looks like speeding it up so he can go be a full on candidate. >> is that what's happening? >> that is what this says skip the exploratory committee and a signal to run instead announce in june to run. man, it surprises me i'll be
5:17 am
honest i thought it was inevitable for him to run now five months in it feels like a lot of headwinds and downside trump is running very strong remains very popular. and their train is not yet off on the tracks. maybe it will in june but a trump train too i don't know how you handle that. has risen a little bit in the polls and in a small way by talking almost all positively about trump desantis camp can't do that. campaign ads have a trump sticker and then a desantis sticker on top of it trying to come after him without teching off trump supporters i don't know how you thread that needle. >> i don't know if he could choose if he done the way which is acknowledge what went -- fabulous in the trump administration things he did well. in fact, some through that a little later as well as larry elders but one he said is here's
5:18 am
a list of all i'll do on day one. reminded me of donald trump saying here are the, you know, pro-life justices i'm going to put in something people thought you couldn't do. back then you couldn't show your hand leak that and trump certainly did for the pro-life community because he he knew he needed to have them onboard. will: all right turn down to additional headlines with crisis at the southern bode joe biden defends sending 1500 army troops to assist border patrol agents in texas ahead of the expected migrant surge. free up border agents that need to be on the border. troops will apparently hep with data entry and warehouse support. this is overwhelm border cities anticipate thousands of migrants to pour in with title 42 ending in just days. a new study find cell phones are linked to higher blood pressure a major cause of heart attack and strokes. southern medical university finds people who spent 30 minutes week talking on the

>> as you know we're four days away from title 42 ending that covid era rule at the border which has already led to a flood. the last two years have already been a flood. and unflirnght it is about to get worse. biden says they're sending national guard 1500 troops but as you've point of pointed out l helped to facilitate more of that transferring than anywhere else and you've done a great interview with wives to share with viewers again who are only edge because it's been bachelor's degree and getting worse how much worse could it get. here are those wives on the pral earlier. >> we already have thousands ofs people gathering on the mexican side, and unfortunately as we see every evening and every morning, there's already thousands of illegals comes in.

there's not enough agents so if there is a crisis and an agent is in need of help, it can tack very long time because a lot of the agents are processing, you know, the thousands of people that are coming over. so the main concern for me is safety. for my husband -- >> what happens when one of the citizens or one of the neighbors needs an ambulance all of those resources are tied up somewhere else on our highway assisting illegals and a smuggler that have wrecked that are breaking our laws. i have to worry every single time i say good-bye to my kids and put them on the school bus because we have purr sues on one highway to get to and from their school i shopght have to live like that. >> you're attempted to say that chaos that will soon ensue once the lift of title 42 is going to be immeasurable but started to be measured in the fact that we have tens of thousands come across border in anticipation of
5:26 am
the lift title 42 i did seek biden administration is looking to implement a new rule about asylum seekers that if you didn't rule is -- in seis sense if you didn't claim asylum to american border then you can't claim asylum in the u.s. which oink the surface sounds good and logical and right like let's say coming from venezuela and county claim in el salvador and mexico you can't get to united states and claim it but i don't know how you prove that. rachel: that's a great point ofi was struck by the desperation and voices of the women they are border patrol wives but a also just wives and mothers as she said they're every day there are pursuits bailouts, you know, that are potential for crashes and and deaths on the highway. but also we're seeing the cartels are richer than ever. they're coming across the
