kevin corke is live. good evening. >> kevin: problems aplenty nationwide as you pointed out. millions of americans struggling with food and gas and housing costs. to say nothing of the crisis along the southern border. and the reason mass shootings. well, with all that happening, as you said, the biden administration instead appears to be focused on the airline industry, announcing today it will propose a rule requiring all airlines to compensate fires for the costs of meals and hotels, texas, the right years, and rebooking fees when the airlines are the ones to blame for canceled or delayed flights. but critics, yes, acknowledging perhaps the novelty of that i idea, there's still questioning tonight, the white house's fo focus. >> there are multiple things that the president -- and he can talk about the potential

manufacturing crisis that house republicans have put forth. >> kevin: walk, talk, and chew gum. this is all happening as the latest washington post abc news poll shows less than a third of americans surveyed believe mr. barton has the mental sharpness to even serve as president. and just 33% say he is in good physical health to serve. and not much more than that. just 36% approve of the job he is doing with nearly six in 10 saying, you guessed it, they disapprove. that low approval rating is due in part to the president's handling of the border crisis. and that is something they have yet to address. trace? >> trace: kevin corke is live for us. thank you. let's bring in former business reporter david grasso. i hate to say that rome was crumbling, but that is kind of what happened. it is important to note that his

predecessor, one of his great friends, barack obama, did 23, average of 23 news conferences a year. it is may and prison biden has not been a single solo news conference this year. what you make of that? >> what is less popular than biden, all the airlines. it is an easy one for him. it is a popular kitchen table issue. i don't think it is a terrible issue for him to jump on. not being transparent with the press is a huge problem and as you know, trays, because you are a journalist, with the president does not talk directly to the people, it is hard to report on. >> trace: the washington post and you talked about the poll numbers. he is not addressing the crisis we have going on around the country. his poll numbers are abysmal. washington post abc news poll said the following, do you think biden has mental sharpness to serve as president? 32% say he does. 32%. does he have good physical health to serve as president? 33% say he does. that means 60 plus% in all those

say that he does not. which had donna brazile saying this. watch. >> this poll is brutal for president biden. >> i thought they should wake up and look at those numbers. if they are unable to make this campaign for the bottom up and talk to people where they are, it is going to be a struggle. >> trace: donna brazile, she does very little bad mouthing of the democratic party, even when times are dire, she finds a good place to put on it. that is not a good sign. >> i think we all have concerns about both of the candidates. let's face it, trace. the two front runners, donald trump and joe biden, are enormously unpopular in this country. they. they are not popular in the mainstream. speaking of age, i don't want to be rude to anyone because i'm the young man in the room talking about people's age. these candidates, a lot of them 86 at the end of the next term and not everyone ages evenly obviously.

but it is something to be concerned about and it is something on the voters' minds. >> trace: what do you make of the washington post saying that donald trump is leading joe biden? >> i think it is way too early. we don't even know who the nominee is, trace. >> but it is interesting, it numbers wise. i think, it is interesting because there's a lot of negativity on biden's side talking about his age. president trump would be former president trump would be 78 when he got i like that. 82 when he left office. so it is interesting that age is really a factor on one side and there are some people saying a lot of people are saying they think that former president trump is in better shape. >> a lot of it has to do with joe biden's speech impediment. what was interesting is the popularity of robert kennedy junior and ron desantis, they are both enormously popular apparently. it looks like the proof will be in the putting to see who is actually third nominee and it is

we are seeing from the governor, the governor of texas. >> jonathan: eighth migrants were killed in brownsville, texas to over the weekend when a driver ran a red light and plowed into a group waiting at a bus stop. george, alvarez george -- george alvarez and other criminal charges has been charged with eight counts of manslaughter. and getting back to the current migrant, the u.s. border patrol chief said today that over the weekend, his agents made more than 26,000 apprehensions while more than 7,000 illegal immigrants were known to have made it past border patrol and into the u.s. numbers, trace, that are only likely to increase over the coming weeks. >> trace: numbers we have not seen before. thank you. was texas governor greg abbott started pressing migrants to other states, in new york city mayor eric adams called governor "morally bankrupt. now mayor adams plans to bust migrants in his city to a nearby suburbs.

but those suburbs are threatening to block those buses. jackie ibanez is live with those details tonight. jackie, good evening. >> reporter: good evening. new york city mayor eric adams as he said since the federal government has failed to provide support it needs to deal with an influx of migrants that he is calling a crisis. the mayor's plan to bus several hundred migrants to the suburbs is drawing a first response from officials in those communities who they say they will fight the plan to post tooth and nail. listen. >> how dare you? you have no control over this county. i can't come to new york city and bring people there and say, i'm going to throw a hotel up in new york city because i want to. it is utter nonsense. >> reporter: the county executive for rockland county which is about 20 miles north here of new york city, the county has already declared a state of emergency, which would prohibit hotels like this one from housing migrants without a license. violators could face a fine of $2,000 per day, per person.

are going to propose and act on hr to this week the secure the border and. we have got to starting this or we are going to see country continue to plunge into physical problems and crime rapid, coming from illegal immigrants and all kinds of people. we appreciate people coming here for asylum claims which are very rare. we have lost complete operational control at our border. we need to give the border agents the tools they need including building a wall, finishing the wall, giving the border agents the resources including pay, hours, keeping it under control these nongovernmental agencies that are giving money to people who are illegal immigrants who are violating our laws. that is hundreds of millions in taxpayer money that we know of that the inspector general has reported on. think about the money that is going down the drain that we don't even know about and putting us at risk with record deaths from fentanyl, from adults 18 to 20 -- 45 years old.

communication between the united states and the prc and so i will leave it there for now. >> trace: when conditions allow, when the time is right, but time appears to be right. our relations are not getting any better. >> and we canceled the trip when the chinese balloon was floating across the united states. and we were told it would happen soon thereafter. this is not how you do diplomacy at the highest level. you pick and choose when you want to go and me with really a potential adversary in the world. it does not work that way. what it suggests is that there's confusion and weakness in the halls of the white house and in the state department and i think that blinken, the biden administration on foreign policy does not know what to do. >> trace: you talk about confusion in the white house and i'm confused because of the whole title i situation. we are sending them weapons. we are training with them. and i'm wondering if the united states has intend to actually defend taiwan if china invades. is that a yes or a no?

we know it will be difficult. what is your thought on that? >> let me check the question. i know know what you are trying to get at. i think this goes to the fact that the biden administration does not have a set of first principles on foreign policy. and so it kind of plays it on a flight. and that is what i see going on with taiwan. so afghanistan, we pull out. ukraine, we go in. taiwan, we say we are committed to strategic ambiguity but it looks like for violating that a bit and we are getting closer to taiwan, which, in fact, it's really one of our principal allies in the end of pacific. nothing seems consistent. nothing seems particularly strategic and nothing is being discussed with the american. look to walk the american public through the logic because i don't believe it is there and i don't think it is just the bidn administration. i don't want this to be a partisan argument.

jealousy. one group being pitted against another group. i mentioned that is going to increase violence. it is going to take care -- it is going to hurt the free market, housing costs. everything is going to be turned upside down by this. that is assuming that the state can really make good on its promise and actually pay out this amount of many considering we are 24 million -- $24 billion already. >> trace: there is a risk as well because if you come forward with these task forces and they say pay this and the state does not have the money to pay this, then it is a problem as well. >> and people are pretty upset. human nature is to start spreading the money before you get it. >> trace: we talked about this in the real news brought up. scottdale, saying, i am making my way to find the exit stage right from california. the most recent survey conducted by the los angeles homeless services authority found approximately 69,000 people experiencing homelessness in l.a. county.

41,000 in the city in 2022. you don't with this, bill, in your city. it is a problem that every city leader goes through the. i would say that taxes are the number one problem in california. if you're leaving the state for homelessness, it is in for a point. >> taxes for sure. homelessness is really connected with crime and quality of life in regards to that but i think that a lot of people are obviously leaving the state because they feel like it is unsafe and they feel like it is never going to get any better. i think there's a helplessness and hopelessness that goes along with there. >> trace: yeah, and i want to put these numbers are because i was kinda staggered by these produces the diagnosis of youth with gendered is forced and it is a surge in they are states. look at . you have 15,000. in 2021 you are up to 42,000. that is almost three times what you had just four years earlier and we still don't have the numbers for 22 and 23 and my guess is from those, it is going to be higher.

make the tenant better, they are willing to ignore the very real environment and public health disaster that continues to play out in east palestine and it isn't -- it is inexcusable. >> trace: it seems to be that because the person did not go just because a lot of top officials did not go there, that norfolk southern really got kind of a pass on this, that their feet were put to the fire like they should have been should have been and maybe these people don't get the compensation or the care that they need. >> well, i certainly have been in touch with some of the emergency responders that were on the ground early on. and while there was a presence of epa there, what i heard is that it was not the level of senior leadership necessary to truly take charge. and in that situation, what has happened is expediency ruled the day coming from norfolk southern as they tried to reopen that main artery of their training operations. and so if that becomes the

priority that that lends itself to be overarching and extenuating consequences that the people in this area continue to deal with, and again, i will say this. it is inexcusable that it took over two weeks for any senior leadership to show up from the biden administration. and it is terrible to consider the fact that president biden today has not been out there. >> trace: yeah, the following, three months after the train derailment in the village, residents say they continue to struggle with ongoing health problems. we told you that. in face of uncertain future without federal help in the form of emergency disaster declaration. governor mike dewine said he has been told by fema the chemical spill does not qualify because it was not a natural disaster like a tornado or a flood. so it seems like the long-term outlook is bleak for the people who lived there. you have about 15 seconds. >> yeah, it is bleak and it shows you the consequences that truly does not care about the american people all the american people regardless of zip code.
