subway's a precarious place. you're going the view it differently based on whether you ride it frequently and have seen bizarre he behavior or it's your first time and daniel penny spoke out on that, he said this to the new york post about being on that specific subway train. he said this was different. this time was much different. i can tell you that the threats, the menacing, the terror jordan neely introduced to the train has been well documented. i don't think it's going to be consistent trough verlted. -- couldn't verted. controverted. witnesses are uniform in the recollection of events. it's deeply tragic what happened. hopefully we can change the system that desperately failed us. you can take that last sentence in any number of ways, failed jordan neely, failed the other people on the subway car, failed him in charging him with this.

masculinity to be a protecter. that is being attacked. josh howly wrote a -- josh hawley wrote a book about this. he says this is a good example many an extremely confusing signal that the culture and the media and left are sending young men. you got a guy who puts himself in danger to try to help other people. you have a subway passenger saying he saved my life. he put himself in danger. that's automatically condemned before we even know all of the facts. >> a t that's right. this culture says masculinity is toxic. i'm so glad that josh hawley as a senator -- we talk about masculinity, the three of us. we thinks we need more brave men to take care of their families and victims, potential victims in a subway car when the police are not there to do it but i think the idea of masculinity for young men is something that josh hawley as a senator should

take on. people say take on policy and you attacks. this is foundational to who we are. what kind of society do we want to live in do we want to raise our boys to be brave and courageous. this man, jordan neely, punched a 64-year-old woman in the face. he's been arrested 42 times. what kind of country do we want to live in, how do we want to raise our boys? >> it would have been easy for daniel penny to look the other way, walk to another subway car, step out. he decided to step up. there were a couple banners saying the amount of money he raised in his legal fund, $2.7 million. i think that dollar amount, rachel, is reflective of americans across the country saying we do want brave men. >> yeah. >> we do want masculinity. we recognize the value of a marine vet in the situation. he was an infantry man. you meet people of all backgrounds, racial,

jet to shoot it down over the atlantic ocean off the coast of south carolina. as for the other big topic of discussion at this very rare press conference, in japan, the debt ceiling talks. president biden is talking about republican ideas as being extreme and unacceptable. he says there will be no bipartisan agreement as we inch closer to a default unless republicans decide to give some ground and president biden also said i have done my part. so i asked him about that. >> mr. president, on the debt limit you said already i've done my part. do you think that if there's a breach, nobody is going to blame you? >> on the merits, based on what i've offered, i would be blameless. on the politics of it, no one will be blameless. by the way, that's one of the things that some are contemplating. >> reporter: the debt talks back in washington, d.c. were happening over the last couple days while it's been nighttime

the second most diverse state in the country, black residents make up 18% of the state's population, hispanic american hads make up 26%. the naacp says, he though, that people of color are not welcome in florida. stating this, quote, under the leadership of governor de santis, the state of florida has become hostile to black americans and in direct conflict with democratic ideals that our union was founded upon. the naacp hereby issues a travey to african-americans and other people of color regarding the hostility towards african-americans in florida. the naacp taking issue with policies spearheaded by the governor, particularly in education. last week governor de santis signed legislation to stop taxpayer dollars being used to pay for diversity, equity and inclusion programs at public universities. the governor's press secretary responded on twitter by posting a subtitled video of de santis from a past speech where he said this is a stunt. if you want to waste your time

here, expected to talk about something else, it was this g-7 dominated by stories outside of what they wanted to talk about especially that debt ceiling impasse. the president wanted to talk about his clean energy action plan, he wanted to talk about energy security for g-7 nations. instead, in just his 12th solo news conference at as president be he fielded questions about why he can't come to a debt ceiling agreement. >> first, we weren't making progress. then we made a lot of progress, then all of a sudden came back with a proposal that was very cut back from where they'd agreed or discussed. we gave a counter proposal to the counter, again, i know this sounds ridiculous but that's what we did and i'm waiting to hear their response to what we offered. we're willing to cut spending. >> reporter: in a statement white house press secretary says the proposal mccarthy submitted was a big step backwards with demands could nt pass the senate.

ceiling, we cannot have anything attached to a debt ceiling. he's just admitted that's not going to be the case because they won't allow it and we've already seen the senate agree with kevin mccarthy's plans that, yes, there will be spending cuts and spending limitations in the future. right now, what i'm understanding is that the staffs have been working together and there are a few things where there is some common ground. there's certainly common ground to you claw back unspent covid-9 money that's not going to move the needle. you more than that to make a difference. that is one area of common ground. the other area of common ground is something having to do with permitting, permitting of both fossil fuels as well as permitting of green energy projects. so that is also something that will likely materialize here. the other issue that there seems to be some pushback on are work requirements for employees and spending caps for the coming years.

those two areas we're going to talk about today when i have an exclusive interview with kevin mccarthy, the house speaker will join me at the top of the hour to tell us whether or not he has spoken to the president while the president travels from japan back and when he is expecting to meet and what are the areas of difference. because the president has tried to look tough because we don't know who is running this negotiation, is it bernie sanders, a lot of the ideas coming out of the white house seem to be socialist and bernie sanders ideas. so we'll see in fact we do get an agreement but there's absolutely no expectation that we are going to see america default on its obligations and that's why markets have been trading well. they have not been selling off. because as soon as there's any expectation that the nation will come close to default this market will spiral out of control, sell off. there are massive implications for that we'll talk about that with the speaker of the house. we're talking with representative michael mccall about the china threat and senator josh hawley about the
