handling the biden family, or handling the biden family with kid gloves while improperly spying on everyday americans, just how many times did the fbi surveil americans? it's shocking, and we will tell you this hour. >> sandra: plus, sharks attacking in florida days before the unofficial start of summer. one victim was not even in the water when it happened. we'll ask a leading shark expert if it could mean a dangerous summer beach season. >> john: and no, it was not the guy grabbing the shark by the tail. and bud light bleeding. sales down the fifth straight week after the campaign with the transgender influencer. is it leaving everyone with a bad after taste. john roberts in washington, that has to count as the single most expensive can of beer in history. >> sandra: i think that's fair to say at this point. might even be fact. i'm sandra smith in new york.

all that on tap for you. all new at 2:00. first this fox news alert. >> john: president biden back on u.s. soil after the g7 in japan, debt negotiations are at a standstill. >> the president cutting his trip short to deal with this crisis at home, and seemingly downplaying china's threat to national security before he departed asia. >> and then this silly balloon that was carrying two freight cars worth of spying equipment was flying over the united states and it got shot down, and everything changed. >> sandra: saying he gave beijing a win on the world stage. gillian turner is live on the north lawn at the white house for us. gillian, what are the president's advisors saying about all of this? >> well, his national security advisor, jake sullivan, took to
11:02 am
the airwaves over the weekend to hit back against this criticism from folks who say that biden's decision to cut his international trip short really gave china a quick easy win on the world stage by making the u.s. somehow seem unreliable. take a listen. >> we are producing a set of outcomes under american leadership, under president biden's leadership on china, on clean energy, on the war in ukraine, on pushing back against economic coercion, on protecting our most sensitive technologies. it's actually quite historic set of outcomes. >> president biden in japan appeared to downplay the threat that china poses to the united states, not just the infamous spy balloon but economically as well. listen. >> we are not looking to decouple from china, we are looking to derisk and diversify our relationship with china. that means taking steps to diversify our supply chains,
11:03 am
resisting economic coercion together. >> republicans say president biden has it all wrong, they say it's his soft approach toward the chinese president that has led to the current standoff. >> when you project weakness this is what you get. you invite aggression. so now our foreign nation adversaries, russia, china, iran, north korea, are him. the spy balloon was china bullying the united states. >> well, china has now responded to the president's comments in japan yesterday. they question whether what he is saying has any sincerity, that's a quote, or any significance. pretty low blow. back to you. >> sandra: very interesting. gillian turner, thank you. john. >> john: this isn't just my story, it's all of our stories.

every single one of us are here because of the american journey. where there were obstacles that became opportunities. >> john: senator tim scott announcing his bid for the gop presidential nomination billing himself as an optimist and reintroducing him to the nation as the embodiment of the american dream, but not flying with some ladies on "the view" who just had to invoke clarence thomas. >> i don't know who his message is supposed to resonate with, actually. he's talking about victim hood and personal responsibility. >> i think one of the issues that tim scott has is that he seems to think because i made it, everyone can make it. ignoring again the fact that he is the exception and not the rule. and until he is the rule -- >> he has -- >> then he can stop talking about -- >> clarence thomas syndrome, that's what it is. >> john: the republican field more crowded and diverse with
11:05 am
scott's entrance. we expect florida governor ron desantis to announce later this week. byron york and a fox news contributor, so, he starts off with i would think a pretty solid launch. he was more animated than i have ever seen him, bob and i were talking about that, john thune behind him and $22 million. >> $22 million. >> john: ain't that bad. >> a lot from larry ellison, the computer tech guy. north charleston, south carolina. if you watched him over the years he is very animated on the stump. so, this was kind of tim scott you would see when he was campaigning for marco rubio in the 2016 presidential campaign. a lot of republicans are very well disposed toward tim scott, they like him. but this is the kind of candidacy not just going to burst on the polls and all of a sudden he'll be in second place
11:06 am
next week. it's the kind of candidacy that you visit iowa a lot, and good news, good word starts spreading around. i don't think any of the ladies of "the view" live in iowa, and they say good things about you and after a while you just start rising in the most important first contest. that's how this will happen if it does for tim scott. >> john: we choose nominees state by state, don't do it nationally. but the national polls have got him at a significant disadvantage. according to the real clear politics average, i have up here, trump leads desantis by 37 points. tim scott is at 1.8 in the real clear politics average. the good news about that is you've got nowhere to go but up from there. but you know, it is -- it's a big hill to climb. >> i was looking at the real clear politics average from march 1st on, trump's lead is getting bigger and bigger and
11:07 am
bigger, and 37 points over the next closest competitor, governor desantis. it's a crazy huge lead. but of course, desantis is not even in the race yet, and a lot of things are going to happen, and polls are always, always just a snapshot of what's happening right now, they are not a prediction of anything that's going to happen. >> john: what the dnc said about tim scott in the race, he wants to govern from the proud conservative right as a proud member of the tea party and his extreme record proves it. he was a fierce advocate of the maga agenda, abortion bans and end medicare and social security as we know them. clearly the dnc is terrified of this guy. >> and most republicans in congress supported the trump agenda, that's the way -- he was a republican president, they were republican lawmakers, they supported the trump agenda. so now basically i think you are seeing the dnc attacking, they attack desantis a lot, they'll
11:08 am
attack any new candidate just in case their target, donald trump, is not the nominee. >> john: real quick, what do you make of the tweet by the naacp, aimed at desantis in florida. under the leadership of desantis, state of florida is hostile to black americans and in direct conflict with the ideas the union was found on. not lost on us that leon russell lives in tampa. seems to like florida. >> this was in the form of a "travel advisory," advising black americans not to travel in florida, or to be very, very careful if they do. the extraordinary thing, i looked this up. the extraordinary thing is even as the naacp is warning black americans not to travel to florida, thousands of black americans are moving to florida every year. it's been quite a few in the last decade just like all other
11:09 am
americans who seem to be moving to florida. >> john: maybe it's ok to move there, don't travel there. >> they have chosen to live there and they know who the governor is. >> john: including the compare man of the naacp. good to see you. >> thank you. >> how does a large republican field affect the president's campaign strategy? >> you know, i don't think it does at all. the president is strong, but we are going to run on a message where we have been taking care of working families across to country and we are going to continue to live up to our promises to them. >> sandra: so that was senator tammy duckworth, co-chair of the president's re-election campaign and says he's going strong but dig into some of the brand-new polling out there, particularly when it comes to the economy and how this president is polling on that overall 33% approval rating. of course, when you break it down by democrat, 61%, majority of democrats approve of his handling of your money. republicans, 6%. obviously this is something that is of note for the campaign when
11:10 am
you have 76% describing things as poor, but there is that partisan split on how people feel about his handling of the money issues that are out there. also see how the debt ceiling debate plays out and how the polling changes. the president's campaign just released the first strategy memo, and it is quite revealing where the ad buys are, boasting viable pathways to 270 electoral votes, team biden is dropping a seven figure early ad buy in blue swing states, including michigan, wisconsin, pennsylvania, and you can see the other states, the campaign is highlighting wisconsin where abortion rights swung the state supreme court left. democrats think it's a sign the social and culture issues will help biden in some of the perennial swing states and count more than the economy. but finally, one editorial in
11:11 am
"the new york post" pointing out biden is a fool to ignore r.f.k., jr. at least three polls have him up around 20%, john. and obviously that is not to be ignored this far out still from the presidential election. >> john: that's true, but you know, as we pointed out, in one of our panels, biden still has 62% which ain't half bad. >> sandra: this is true. >> john: a lot to chew over between now and next january, and then from january on through the primary season and then into november, it's going to be a lot of fun. >> sandra: absolutely. >> john: bud light now facing backlash from all sides over the controversial transgender mistake, i guess you could say? it's hurting the company's bottom line big time. plus, who is really at fault as the country nears its first-ever default? president biden with his
11:12 am
thoughts about the debt ceiling drama coming up. >> on the merits based on what i've offered, i would be blameless. on the politics of it, no one would be blameless. >> john: and the whole standoff is doing real damage to our economy. our panel coming up with more on that. veteran homeowners, what if you could save a lot of money every month by paying off your car loan and paying off your high rate credit card debt and still have cash left over to put in the bank? with the newday 100 va cash out loan, you could do it all. take out an average of $70,000 with no upfront fees, no upfront appraisal fees, termite inspection or water test fee. because a veteran shouldn't have to come up with money to get money.

heard from goldman sachs saying the cash could be extended to june 8th or nine, but they agree you have to get it done, you can't just get it done on the x date, there are some other approvals you have to go through. time is of the essence. we have been talking about this and people at home think oh, the debt ceiling does not apply to me. the reputation of the country is on the line. you never want to be putting this stuff into question about if we can pay our debts or not. so i agree, brian, i'll let you weigh in, you have to get it done to get the approvals in place before the debt payments are due. >> what i don't like, biden is already going to don't blame me. he said i'm blameless, don't blame me. that is false. he is the president of the united states. if anybody owns this, it is him. it is his spending that has stood in the way of getting this done. he has not come to the table, not been active on this. mccarthy is obviously still negotiating right now, but president biden simply has not done his job on the debt ceiling. they don't have to default, we have cash coming in, you can close parts of the government
11:22 am
but the fact is he is imperilling an already weak banking system and economy by not coming to the table in good faith on spending. >> i want to be careful not to create too much drama around this. but you remember back in 2011 when we were downgraded from aaa to aa plus i believe it was, not because of the ability to pay, but the willingness to pay. the willingness for people to come together to negotiate to avoid the game of chicken, avoid the drama, these people should be locked in a room until they get it done, that's how important it is, for the reputation. it's not about the ability, we can pay. it's the willingness of our country to come together and find a solution. >> sandra: all right. we are still getting some breaking news in here. bear with me for just a second, all coming out of capitol hill right now. mccarthy says it is possible to get a debt ceiling deal as soon as monday night, tonight, or

tuesday. now, that makes me very hopeful that they are coming together, allegation different than no deal. >> you don't want to say that and then not get it so they must be pretty close on something. i want to know the details. are we really going to get the spending cuts and the caps that we want to see in this, or are we going to get a mish-mash raise ceiling and tax increases. president biden said he wanted tax increases. the economy cannot handle tax increase. i hope they don't do a bad deal just to get a deal. mccarthy has the leverage, he should be pressing here, very curious the deal tonight. >> sandra: a deal as soon as tonight. play this out, mccarthy earlier today in his own words on inflation and the havoc it has wreaked on the country. >> since the democrats took over and the president, they have spent too much money. $6 trillion almost. taken us well beyond the 50 year average where we only normally

11:34 am
spearfishing davis reef in the upper keys. may 18, 20-year-old man was bitten spearfishing marathon key, he was 70 feet down at the time, i think that was the fella talking from his hospital room there, and then may 19, 35-year-old man bitten fishing off a dock, caught the shark and had it on the dock but the bite was bad enough he had to be medi-vaced. is this something nefarious going on or just a typical season? >> it's actually fairly typical. all three events are what we classified as provoked bites where, provoked bite is where people indulge in activities that bring the sharks in and make the probability of being bitten higher, and spearfishing is definite way to bring sharks into the area. you spear usually some kind of grouper or fish and they wiggle
11:35 am
on the spear, those low frequency vibrations bring the animals in, they get excited and they often try to steal the fish or can't get the fish they will go for the diver and so spearfishing is one of the activities that really does increase the probability of being bitten by a shark and when you fish for them and they are on the dock and alarmed and frightened and they want to get in the water, they don't have arms to move around, they'll bite you. it's frequent they get bit. >> on the screen beside you is a video of a shark grabbing the shark by the tail and trying to wrestle it to the shore. it's not an advisable activity, i would take it and the video of the fella in the kayak and kayak got attacked by the shark. what florida says about sharks, extremely unlikely for a person to be bitten by a shark in
11:36 am
florida waters and bites are rarely life-threatening. as you point out, when people get in greater proximity to sharks in the summer season, the water warms up, more people in the water, probably have more shark encounters. but just how rare is what we have been seeing compared to the number of people who use the water? >> it's a tiny fraction of the people that use the water. you have to consider the hundreds of millions of people that come to florida to go to the beaches, to have activities in the water. these are very rare events and they happen in close proximity because there is more people in the water this time of year. but this is no reason for people to avoid coming to florida because you know, your chances are getting bit by a shark is high, no, that's not the case. it's a fairly typical year, actually, and these three events are what we classified as provoked bites. but in general, we usually see
11:37 am
perhaps another 20 or so bites over between now and august would be a fairly typical year. so it's not anything out of the ordinary. >> hopefully people will take steps to minimize the statistic. we need a bigger boat for this one. there is a massive great white shark off the coast of south carolina, it weighs 1200 pounds, nicknamed iron bound because first tagged off the coast of the west iron bound island in nova scotia, last year it was in new jersey, and now south carolina waters. traveled 15,000 miles since it was tagged. we don't believe it has hurt anybody yet, should people be worried it's cruising off the coast of the carolinas? >> no, not at all. white sharks, there's a corridor they move up and down the coast of the united states, they move down from canada all the way down past long island, down
11:38 am
through the carolinas, down to florida, and back up again, and 1200 pounds is a good size white shark but they get twice that size. so it's probably a teenager, i'm guessing. and yeah, it's not unusual, it's pretty nice that we've got these sharks in the water. it suggests that there's food for them to feed and the waters are reasonably healthy. so, they're impressive any time you see white sharks, they are large animals but there's nothing to be worried about. we have very few bikes from white sharks on the east coast. >> john: large animals and to quote monty python with big nasty teeth. so, best to stay away from those. good to catch up with you. if you ever see a great white shark, stay away. you know what's interesting, i've covered so many hurricanes, nobody on the beaches but walk

chuck grassley and they cannot tell you about a specific crime they committed. we can talk about hunter biden and $10 million from sources, but no crime on joe biden yet. this document alleges a criminal scene, foreign bribery in exchange for a favorable policy decision. if that's true, it would be a significant escalation in everything we are talking about right now. it's a big one if it's real. >> sandra: the fbi is already over a week late, we'll see if it happens. what would it reveal about the biden scheme? >> you know, i kind of feel sometimes with house and senate republicans it's like wiley coyote and the road runner, saying we have him this time and does not materialize, so i want to see what the underlying document shows and the there there is, but the first time pinning potentially specific crimes on joe biden, a major escalation. >> sandra: you mentioned james comer, we have had him on the program, and he's out there, and

he says they have evidence for the influence peddling. and whether the fbi will hand him the document he needs to investigate the president. listen. >> this is one of the most serious accusations i think has ever been leveled against any political leader in the history of our country. and for the fbi to act like well, we don't know, we can't talk to you about this, just trust us, i mean, this allegation happened a long time ago and the fbi has done nothing. >> sandra: that's really important. a lot of criticism about christopher wray, head of the fbi, and his handling of these allegations. here is miranda devine earlier on just that. >> christopher wray never shows any ruffled feathers about any of the oversight or any of the criticism. his job when he was appointed by president trump was to try and restore the faith in the fbi

that had been lost through james comey's antics. instead he's done the opposite. things have gone from bad to worse under him. >> sandra: do you believe others see it the same, bad to worse? >> what's clear, there is very little confidence in chris wray at the fbi and the earlier reporters of hundreds of thousands of people improperly surveilled, comes on the heels of the durham report. since both of those incidences we have seen the fbi handling of the hunter biden investigation, they went out of their way to bury the information on the hard drive and suppressing free speech on twitter. a lot of issues that remain to be uncovered and i think if a republican takes the job in 2024, wray's job would be in serious jeopardy. >> sandra: john. >> john: big news from amazon
