problems. >> i'm not going to comment on travel advisory specifically but say it more broadly. republicans in florida have attacked diversity, they have attacked inclusion efforts, they've limited the teaching of black history. and they've launched attacks on the lgbt youth, immigrants, educators and women's reproductive freedom. >> rick scott is trying to spin it on the naacp with a travel warning for socialists, let me be clear, any attempts to spread oppression and poverty that socialism brings will be rebuffed by florida. attempts to spread socialism in north florida will fail an be met with laughter and mockery. it is entirely unclear desantis plans to change his approach because, as we've seen, the months leading up to tonight's announcement have been carefully scripted with lines like this one. >> our mantra is we do not ever

governor desantis is viewed for his spectacular track record across the country. he is the most popular leader, not just republican leader, but leader in america and that has been true for all of 2023 talking about favorable, unfavorable ratings. even trump voters like governor ron desantis. and the more republican voters learn about the governor, about him working his way through college, serving in the military, and never backing down, including in these woke mob fights that you started this segment reporting on, governor desantis is the only major candidate in america on either side who has fought these battles on the side of us and our children and hasn't backed down. president trump is on the other side. he has been with disney, he has been with bud light. who knows, maybe be with target next. but target is afraid because of

the sort of response that has been spearheaded in government by governor desantis. and i am the one excited to see him get in the race today. >> bill: later tonight he will be on at 8:00 eastern time with trey gowdy tonight. i was reading about their strategy. you have iowa, new hampshire, south carolina, nevada. they'll knock on a lot of doors, which you need to do especially in the two early states. would you accept that he has to win one of those states to be viable? >> so i led the delegate effort for ted cruz in 2016 and you have to win the most delegates to win. we aren't just preparing in the first four states, bill. we're preparing in all the states up through super tuesday. that's a third of the united states including texas and california, two of the biggest states in the country. and no campaign is doing that

other than our super pac in support of the desantis campaign. so we will be better prepared to fight in every single state than any other campaign in history. and we have the best leader to carry that fight forward in governor desantis. so we expect to win every state, bill. we may have some setbacks here and there but we'll be ready to go the distance and governor desantis, you have seen him. disney, this is round three. he doesn't just take one hit and fall down and not show back up. he is a fighter, the best fighter we've seen in our adult lifetimes and not just fight through the first four states but we will be ready before 2024 to go all the way through super tuesday. >> bill: why him and not donald trump, sir? >> he is better at everything you need to do to lead america. he deals with the media better.

dollars spent trying to solve it. since 2018 california has allocated more than $20 billion to housing and homeless programs only to see the number of those living on the street to skyrocket with 120,000 people and encampments going up in cities where they never have been before. >> they aren't humane. they are brutal and unacceptable. >> democratic state senator is among a bipartisan group of lawmakers who wants the audit to find out how public funds have been used and how effective the spending has been. >> there is also been a request for our office to try to determine how many individuals have actually received shelter. >> california's long-held housing first approach aims to get people into shelter right away with virtually no strings attached. republican assembly josh hoover

wants the audit to find out if housing that requires sobriety is a better investment. >> we have amazing programs in our community that are actually getting people out of the cycle of homelessness but they require sobriety and require you to get clean. none of those programs qualify to this funding. >> you need the housing to achieve those results. without housing it is near impossible to achieve any kind of healthcare or treatment while you're dealing with crisis on the streets. >> at the end of the day, this audit will hope to identify whether long-term solutions will take more money or a bold new strategy. bill, this audit is expected to be completed by october. >> bill: it is an issue. thank you in san francisco. so ford motor company reversing course on a plan to remove a.m. radio from its cars in the year 2024. the company ceo said after

speaking with policy leaders about the importance of a.m. broadcast radio as part of the emergency alert system we will include it on all 2024 ford and lincoln vehicles. michael, good morning to you. was this ever a truly serious consideration? did it get off the ground, michael? >> well, it is a concern and there still are other ought -- automakers that might be removing a.m. radios. i'm not surprised they turned around. i don't think there was malicious intent to announce they want to get rid of a.m. radio. it was a tone deaf bean counter bone-headed move not understanding the role of a.m. radio in our society. yes, it's on the decline as all 20th century media is.

we're not closing up movie theaters and stopping the publishing of newspapers and paper books. a.m. radio is vital. the most exciting on a.m. or f.m. radio are news talk, sports talk and some of the other types of radio, gospel radio, rural agricultural radio, and radio in areas where we don't have good wifi service all on a.m. not to mention a generation of people still quite vital and bye automobiles only know how to use a.m. and comfortable with it. it was a bone-headed tone-deaf move and seeing quickly it was a mistake. >> dana: the senator from massachusetts said ford's reversal and overdue realization of a.m. radio. too many automakers are going in the wrong direction.

some of the other companies that are going to remove them including all these. some are newer companies like rivieran and tesla. you alluded to it. peer research showed there is a significant portion of the population that gets a lot of its news from a.m. radio. sometimes 34%. often 13%. you add that together and it is a decent chunk. >> a big chunk. that news also involves emergency. it is the backbone of the nation's emergency broadcast system. it is a necessity at this point. my head is not in the sand. i'm not just a booster for the industry. eventually will be digital and a whole new paradigm and radio has to really keep its eye or ear on

what radio means when it is no longer defined by the appliance it is carried on. at this point we're talking 10, 15 years from now. not to mention the auto industry owes radio a favor and special consideration for almost a century of a relationship between the two. people listen to radios in cars but it exalted the relevance of cars. i don't think the other automakers want to make an enemy out of talk radio. >> bill: the national association of broadcasters president said. in light of forward's announcement they urge other automakers to remove it to follow ford's leads for public safety. part of the talk. a good talker. michael harrison, thank you for

your time. >> dana: his point about the safety is important as well. you might live in a city to just a.a. radio. if you are in the country and you have an issue and want entertainment you'll find it on a.m. >> bill: the weather alerts. all the power goes out, it's what you do with batteries, too. old school but works. >> dana: this was a terrifying attack on a new york city subway. a woman grabbed by the head and shoved into the side of a train leaving her critically injured and wondering if she was going to die. plus a battle over school reform in north carolina. why the governor is declaring a state of emergency? is this necessary? we'll talk to a state lawmaker in favor of school choice. >> it is time to declare a state of emergency for public education in north carolina. there is no executive order like with a hurricane or the pandemic. but it is no less important.

>> dana: the nypd arrested a man for shoving a woman face first into a train. the victim is in critical condition and highlighting the issue of transit crime in the big apple. it's not a myth. senior correspondent eric sean is live in new york city. hi, eric. >> hi, well, a gofundme page is raising money for the latest subway pushing victim. she is a young woman who was savagely attacked without any warning by a stranger. this happened at 6:00 in the morning on sunday as 35-year-old woman was walking on the platform of a manhattan subway station. she was suddenly savagely pushed into a train as it was pulling out of the station by a homeless man who slammed her head against the subway car. she is now in critical condition and doctors say she may not walk

again. police say the suspect is 39 years old arrested at a homeless shelter charged with attempted murder and assault and living, they say, in the city shelter for two years. this comes as transit crime in new york city happens to be down from last year by 7%, but since this time in 2021 transit crime is up by more than 50%. the city does have a large homeless outreach program for the subways, critics say the migrant crisis has been diverting attention from the mental health services. >> daily spend rate on migrants is more than the entire parks department and the entire fire department of new york every single day. so if we free ourselves from this migrant crisis, we probably would have more than enough money to tackle the crisis that is also on our streets, which is mental health. >> the attack comes in the wake of the polarizing death of

first. >> bill: can i tell our viewers what is going on in north carolina in terms of education? fourth graders, math, 35. eighth graders 26, eighth grade math, 25%. can't we do better? >> we absolutely should and must do better. let me remind you, governor cooper kept our schools closed for 880 days. and the covid crisis really showed families, parents what was happening in and outside the classroom. so the movement for school choice is even more empowered right now. i have heard from so many parents and families all throughout north carolina that they are just scared for their children. learning loss is a real situation and that is on

governor cooper's hands. >> bill: in your school choice bill on behalf of republicans a parent has the right -- i see ten things to do. i'll read a few. direct the education and care of the kid. enroll the child in any school choice options, access and review education records, no bio metric scan or storage of a child's blood without consent. also says direct the education and care of the child. access and review all education records. seems like a parent's option. access and review all medical records of his or her child as authorized by hipaa as passed in 1996. why is he against this? >> this is all about governor cooper. he recently did a tour last week on abortion, spreading lies. this is just the normal behavior for him. i strongly believe that he is looking for his next political appointed job, probably by the

biden administration, if they get that far. hopefully they are not reelected. but this is about him. it was okay for he and his wife to send his child to a private school. but he is not going to allow the single mom somewhere in north carolina whose child has been at a school that failed children for generations after generations to make that choice for them. that's wrong. parents should have the freedom to make the choice for their child because they know their child the best. and what would be the best. and there are families who will have one child maybe at a public school that's working great but they have another child where it is not. education is not one size fits all. that is absolutely critical to this legislation. and we should give what is best for children, for families, and if a child goes to a private school and they are thriving, they love to learn and they will

disability, and whether the applicant comes from a historically underrepresented high school. the other parents' group is saying no, we want to get back to merit. we don't want to discriminate against one ethnic group. in this situation and in the harvard situation asian-americans who have worked hard to pass this test, it is a very grueling exam. these parents are saying let their merit speak for itself. this is an area where we want to excel in this country and we should make that kids who are meeting that mark help us as a nation to be more competitive, right? that's the goal of the education. that's the goal of education. >> bill: like the lawmaker we talked to 20 minutes ago making sure parents have a role in kids' education and get done what the parents want to accomplish in that school. did you see dana's interview last hour? a good cyclist, a woman competing against transgender men now and retiring from the
