duffie. we begin with the latest republican entering the 2024 race, ron desantis. he finally announced his ambition during an event last night. desantis joined our own trace gallagher on fox news last night. >> i am running to load a great american comeback. we know the country is on the wrong track. we see it with our own eyes and and we feel it in our bones. we have a president who's a listless vessel and not dealing with the challenges. it does not have to be this way. it is a choice. we can choose a better pathway. >> desantis outlined what he would do on his first day in the

oval office. >> what's the first thing president desantis would do? >> the border, there is a lot you can do, ripping out biden's anti-american policy, you can do some of that executive and legislative as well and reconstitute aligning the administrative states, we have a proxy that's out of control. you need to be willing to use article two power to bring the administrative states to heal. i will do that. >> despite harsh criticism from both sides of the isle, another candidate, president hopeful ron desantis is embracing the competition. >> i don't mind being called different things. i have been called anything. that does not fazed me. you can call me whatever you want. just make sure you call me a winner because that's what we have done in the state of florida. that's what we'll do nationally and not only in the election but actually bringing all these great policies to bare.

not get their time in the sun at all. desantis was still running and stripped off the ballot in certain states that decided to by pass the entire system. that's a bit of a false flag in terms of comparison. to desantis launch and i was on yesterday. there are 271 million people who are roaming around twitter, maybe this is smart. they can chop it off and he'll get great sound byte on this. he can have rally next week or tomorrow night. our time is skewed in this digital world, right? or, it did not matter. hearing twitter did not check to make sure that they could handle 600,000 people who tried to get in out of the gate, obviously, that dwindles down and it reflects on twitter. the big thing for me is ron desantis is not my candidate of choice. he had a lot in his biography.

that called him more of a cultural brawler. i i what i am hearing sort of represents that. harris, you covered so many presidential campaigns and announcements, what do you make of the success of his and the rating? >> so, i don't think in the long run is going matter. i am going to take an opposition here. he's got some big events next week after memorial day. he hits iowa and new hampshire, four stops in new hampshire, south carolina, three stops there. we know the importance of those early voting states and south carolina where you already have at least two in the gop-nominated race, and a president decided he wants to skip over new hampshire and puts south carolina first and try to get the black folks. now, he's shedding from 90% to 50% in recent polling. it highlights the fact. i agree with jessica on this. putting so much into those initial moments online and so on

the group says families traveling to california or minnesota could be at risk of losing custody to their children. it is frightening and enraging to think such a policy have taken hold here in the united states. tudor, what do you think of this? >> it is a political play. i like the fact that it brings attention to it but i would like to see legs behind it. this is where we fail on our side of the isle is this is a real concern because i question why do you have these bills and the gender-affirming care? i think this is a big money industry and so a lot of folks are saying oh, this is not opportunity to bring kids in and do surgeries and make money. there is a lot to unpack here. this is a one starting point but let's make sure the message is getting out. the democrats are phenomenal at getting their message out whether it is in commercials or through even target and what we

are seeing when we go buy things everyday. when is our side? when are the people who are conservatives and concerned with this going to make sure we are sending out digital messaging? >> what this is, is you don't have to get parental permission, your child can go across state lines which is trafficking. we won't even get into that. and we can cut on them and give them, you know, drugs to change their hormonal makeup so on and so forth. what's the clash back to that? >> i think it is a person who never had their body parts cut-off. i have gone through breast cancer and i had a double mastectomy, i know what it is to look at your body and not have it be the same. as a mom, i know what it is like to have my daughter have her entire room decked out in harry potter one day and the next day don't want anything to do with

harry potter. there are phases and changes in life. when people tell you this is reversible? it is not. it is not the same. we have to take it seriously to let kids grow up, explore who they are and learn their sexuality. we all got that chance. let's give every child that chance. i am not saying there is not a point in time where children may say i am something else. >> but, i am saying kids need that chance to grow up without having permanent changes to their body. >> sean? >> this is a break down of parental rights as you mentioned. we have a culture that protected kids, to your point, they make bad decisions and we protected them regarding their sexuality. if anyone goes online and you look at a picture of what a transition looks like and how catastrophically and horrified

parental rights. it is allowing parents to be able to do what they want and support them. >> one parent can bring their child from texas to minnesota and the other one is back in michigan or texas saying listen, i don't want this to happen to my child. they're confronted of what one parent wants and one does not. >> that's where the custodial issues come up. there is no arguing that. if you have that kind of agreement with both parents so on and so forth, the sticking point is what sean had said. that's why this idea of i can lose custody with my child with one parent taking the kid. be on the lookout for. we go after parents who take kids out of cutodial situations. >> there is a slippery slope. we are not talking about something that's proven. >> right. >> that's acting as if doctors

that's an emergency situation. to your point, tudor, emergency, this requires time and attention. the gender-affirming marker, this care that we are talking about that have irreversible consequences. that's not an emergency. they are already in the law and in the court baked into it. so, this is not that. i worry to your point for a memorial decision-making process, a complicated one. if one child and one adult is considering something, and we act on that and the court comes in and shut out a non-consenting adult and say it is in the best interest of the child. that's a short term action for a long-term consequence that deserves much gravity and weight. >> it is not contemporaneous

"the washington post" did an analysis of this. the majority of the complaints are coming from 11 individuals. talk about tyranny of the minority there. i went back to middle school sixth to eighth grades, i went back to look at amanda's poems,

is there anything crazy in there? one line, she does say we are not working towards a perfect union, we are working towards that. we see harmony to none. i don't know how that's a message for a ten-year-old or a nine nine-year-old. they should be outraged who thinks this is an abuse and it will only get worse. we talked about it a few months ago that a judy bloom book forever which i read growing up was banned about high school students who are in love, considering having sex. that was all of us, right? i don't want to put you guys on the spot. that's a normal thing that's going on in kids' lives. when you start to take material like that off of the shelves, you are creating book bans and a place where kids can't go to find things to help them understand themselves and to learn. >> sean, i want to focus on that point, let's play a spot when we
