well. every year on the friday before memorial day, americans wear the poppies to remind of sacrifices. members of it is american legion spoke with us earlier about significance of the poppy. >> it is remembrance of everybody, all the fallen soldiers that have gone before us. >> true emotional day. honor and remember our fallen veterans and all veterans on this day. >> in 1920, the american legion got the poppy as the official flower and then in 1924, they started to distribute them. >> complete honor to be able to wear it. >> todd: the u.s.a.a. poppy wall will feature over 645,000 poppies, one for every service member since world war i, who made the sacrifice. huge props to the men and women

who made the sacrifice and huge props for those who got up early on set and huge props to our director rusty, without knowing what i was doing, thank rusty for organizing this. he gets us to wear poppies every year and we're honored to do so. with that, 1200 bakers riding from california to washington, d.c. to honor american heroes who lost their lives defending our country. they take on the journey across the heartland of america and this year bringing 13 flags to pay tribute to 13 servicemembers killed in kabul. part of the run for the wall join me now. how has the journey been so far? >> the journey has been amazing, we left ontario, california, 10 days ago and this morning we're in west virginia, final day of the run. we'll be riding into washington,

d.c. and we will be bringing 13 flags with us, along with the memories of so many soldiers who gave their last full measure for our country. >> todd: of all the fallen soldiers, why did you single out the 13 who bravely lost their lives there in afghanistan? >> you know, it's such an emotional thing for us. we look every year to honor veterans from all wars and this one just cut so deeply into us and it is so recent. we felt passionately about making sure we call their memory back into the forefront of our thoughts and make sure names are never forgotten. >> todd: 100%, it is important for those 13 to know that their lives were not lost in vein despite what seems like a pointless situation currently in

afghanistan. they died serving our country and that can never be forgotten. with regard to what you do, this ride, why, why do you choose to honor america and our brave veterans who lost their lives in this way? >> we want to make sure the public never forgets, make sure they understand from old to young alike that freedom is not free and many men and women did give the ultimate sacrifice so we can live in freedom and bring that message to the whole of the united states of america. we want to make sure that we honor these soldiers, we remember these soldiers and also very importantly, our motto, we ride for those who can't. this is also right of healing, we have soldiers who came back and have wounds that can't be seen. this is a ride of healing and we make sure they know we are there for them, support them and want to make sure we do everything we can to make sure they are

returned to the united states and can asimulate back into society and have the support they need. >> todd: that is so important you do not forget those living that served, it is important you do that. hear more about the routine. not only do you honor our brave servicemen and women, you honor god, you pray before you head out. walk us through the routine. >> we do. every morning we circle up, we have an all-hands meeting and talk about the day. we have a safety briefing. we have a lot of motorcycles and we're on public roads. we have a whole team of chaplains that ride with us and medics who ride with us, just in case. we pray as a group and break into little groups and pray individually for each other and we pray for the fallen soldiers and pray for the united states of america.

linger off the southeast coast and will bring wet weather for the memorial day weekend. here is southern plain severe threat for friday, saturday and sunday. little bit of diminished threat on saturday and sunday and we'll deal with large hail, this area of low pressure has tropical characteristics, i don't think it will get named, it will bring wet weather. rain, some wind for the carolinas, parts of georgia, toward the mid-atlantic toward monday. high pressure will protect us in the northeast. wet day over next few days, parts of eastern florida toward the mid-atlantic and rockies toward the plain states, the stuck weather pattern, some areas get more rain than they would like getting into the holiday memorial weekend and there is monday forecast. rain for the northern plains, southern plains issue
