of our fallen members and our hearts go out to their families and we'll talk to a few people today that military families. we'll talk to veterans, i cant wait to see their take on memorial day and what this day means to this. to me personally, this is the day to remember those who lost their lives so we can sit up here and feel safe everyday. to them and their families, thank you so very much. >> todd: it is sacrifice and we note the sacrifice. when you stop to break it undo, i have typically 18, 19, 20-year-old kid, basically a child, deciding that the virtues of our nation and our founding are so important to them, they are willing to put the rest of their life on the line for those values.

weekend? look at the debt ceiling agreement vice president biden and kevin mccarthy reached, prepping for debate on wednesday. >> ashley: mark meridith has details. >> good morning to you guys, president biden and house speaker kevin mccarthy has reached a deal to raise the debt ceiling, now the hard part, moving the legislation forward fast. we reached bipartisan budget agreement and now moves to full congress. protects our hard-earned economic recover and he this is a deal that is good news for the american people. the agreement prevents the worst possible crisis for default for the first time in our nation's history. >> suspends the debt limit until january 2025. it reallocates money earmarked

driving the speed limit. that is all well and good, that is not what the gop tells voters every time they are up for reelection in primaries and in november, trust me, primary challenge establishment and republican of the u.s. senate in arkansas. big dichotomy between what the gop tells voters and what they do in congress. there is the reason why this debt limit, it will pass with democratic support, i imagine there is fighting within the conference or this agreement. >> todd: you have nuanced answer, kevin mccarthy says not enough, you say too much, you have nuance answer with kevin mccarthy, if you were in congress, would you vote for this deal? >> the answer is no, there is a better deal to be had there, is a reason why they didn't put a dollar limit on the deal. we are raising to 35 trillion,

that would be a bad headline, now they just have to support the date, january 2025. congress is handing themselves unlimited credit card and no one can see the statement until 2025. if we raise the debt limit, which in theory i'm not opposed to, give a hard number and say, okay, we're 31 trillion in debt, we will be this much in debts, congress will not pigeonhole themselves to a number, that would hold themselves accountable. >> ashley: jake, you served, you are a veteran, what is your message to the younger people to explain what today is all about. >> memorial day truly belongs to families of those who laid down their lives in service of this

through active remembrance. we believe in power of community and remembrance for those who committed themselves to line of service. my husband was killed in 2009, we lost 41 soldiers and as a community we were struggling. i had used running to navigate life of service and community and military spouses and servicemembers began to gather weekly for runs and speak the names of friends who were not coming home and carry their stories, their examples with us in weekly runs. we find strength and ensure their names were spoken and created this space for one another during a difficult deployment. >> ashley: elizabeth, tell us why you run. >> i run in honor of my dad, captain nathan jay nylander, i

wanted to take purposeful steps to remember him. i never felt i was remembering him enough and in the right way, i wanted to dedicate myself to a challenge as much as he dedicated himself to family and to his service men and women and military in the country. i was really inspired by those who ran marathon in octobers, which inspired me to run the one in san francisco employing >> ashley: elizabeth, today is a meaningful day, me and my family love this day. this day has to mean something incredibly important to you. as a whole, what does memorial day signify to you? memorial day is day to remember those who gave their lives in the line of duty or in the military in general. and not only for me to honor my father, but to honor the other

gold star families and other members who lost their life in the military. just a day to overall remember them and thank them for their sacrifice and families for their sacrifice and to remember holistically and keep them in our heart. >> ashley: lisa, final thoughts. what does this day mean to you? >> my children were three, one and three weeks old when my husband was killed. there is not a day we don't think about what should have been or vehicled been, on memorial day, the nation can join us to remember those who sacrificed and remember that those who gave their lives are never forgotten and to learn their stories. our men and women gave their lives and this belief in potential of our country and
