she lost her husband in combat when her youngest was three weeks old. these families have given up everything for us and i hope before people go out and celebrate, which i think today needs to be a day of celebration. we are a free country and need to celebrate their service and what they have done and remember them. i hope they take time to dedicate to what today really is all about. >> todd: that spouse had a three year old, one year old and a three week old and then i just finished with that panel of gold-star parents and you heard us joking, not joking but talking about how stories hit harder when you are a parent. you are about to experience it and understand what that is and listening to cheryl rex, the mom we just interviewed saying what she's going to do today.

go to the grave site of her son to be with him. just think about that for a moment and think about so many parents. regardless of the war, who got that call, got that telegram, that no parent wants to get. the child that they bore from their body, if they're a mom, that they raised over the course of years and decided to put themselves in harm's way for benefit and not coming home. has to be mix much immense pride in what that child has done. immense pain knowing you will never see that child again and today is so important and frustrating when you see people in our country not be patriotic, not take this day seriously for what it represents. have your fun, to your point,

>> fire rescue rescued seven and escorted dozen individuals out. trying to locate unaccounted for individuals. >> marianne: the building's owner had been doing work on the bu building's exterrorior. we are working with officials in davenport and spoke to the mayor and they have the full support of the state and emergency management officials will assist as rescue efforts continue. investigators have not determined the cause of the collapse yet, there were reports of falling bricks earlier ins week. >> ashley: closer look at the debt ceiling agreement president biden and house speaker kevin mccarthy just reached, there is a deal on wednesday.

why is target targeting kids in the first place? i can't come up with an answer, do you have one? >> i do. i feel like a lot of corporations are putting them that they do or don't, what if they are the only company that doesn't come out with the message? i feel like the agenda was blm and now i feel this next election will be lgbtq and if you are not with them, they will ruin you. they are going after children and drag queens in middle schools and furries coming out is next thing, people identify as cats. it is crazy right now. i've been silent, i have lifetime ban on facebook and instagram.

share. beginning with temperatures. 70 in fargo, warm air in middle of the country. every afternoon that meant showers from texas to northern plains. eastern half of the country, one spot, low pressure system, if you live across the area, beaches, it has been soggy today, memorial day will be the best day across the beaches of north carolina. this is still moving off toward the west. beaching are clearing. this was absolute soaker, you see more rain on the way. light rain and mostly further inare land and will continue to weaken and starting to fall apart. you see rain in the northeast and temperatures in middle 80'ses and clear in the south and i showed you where the rain was in the middle of the

now, friends, families and others have joined him. john, thank you for getting up with us, how did this get started for you? >> i originally did ancestry d.n.a. search to find my family and in midst of searching found i had a grandfather buried in the cemetery when i went to go find him, i couldn't even read his name. i did research and found out how to clean it and went to the cemetery and explained to them how i would clean it. it became so clear that the other stones were black and

couldn't read most of them. my goal after that was to clean the rest of them. >> ashley: awesome you did that and we're watching the video how you clean them, how did you, how are you doing this? >> okay, so there is a d2, biological solution to clean stone, marble and you put water on the stone to prep it and d2 and let it set up 10 to 15 minutes and after the set time, start brushing away. >> ashley: just watching the before and after, that is incredible, i'm sure the families appreciate that. in the intro, it said you have cleaned 800 tombstones, is that correct? >> with me and the volunteers, 800, there are 2000 tombstones in the cemetery, the goal is to

after memorial day to continue cleaning those stones. >> ashley: how long do you think it will take? >> i'm hoping maybe another two to three months, the remaining stones are pretty spread throughout the cemetery and about 170-something acres they have to maintain. >> ashley: wow. tell us, i know you gave the background story how you got involved in this, tell us what memorial day means to you. obviously a lot. >> memorial day means a great deal to me. my father-in-law is 12-year veteran of the army, grandfathers and uncle that served in the military. i didn't serve, this is my way of serving our veterans. >> ashley: is this what you plan on doing today?

how will you spend today? >> we will be at the cemetery today, we have an event going on over there. i will participate in that event. >> ashley: what event is it? >> a drive through the cemetery for veterans, there are 18 markers throughout the cemetery of veterans that have won distinguished awards, medals of honor, purple hearts and just that way everybody can see them as we drive through. we have them marked out. >> ashley: last question to you. when i'm seeing the volunteers help, you said family, friends and strangers, how many have come out to help and how do they find out about it? >> there has been approximately two events out there, the first event had 30 volunteers, the second had 20.

just a few months ago when senator schumer and joe biden said don't bother coming to the table, don't bother negotiating. it is a clean raise to the country's debt or nothing. to get to where we are, i give him credit and he's been transparent with us as members of the house. my concerns are national security. number one job of the federal government is to keep us safe. those out there say look at billions we spend on defense, look at context of the world. you could have nuclear arms race in the middle east and israel being wiped off the face of the earth and the chinese are on the march. understand within next few years, they may make a move, the

likes of which we have never seen in the world. their navy is larger than ours. biden's budget would send navy backward. average age of our ship are double age of chinese navy, tripling nuclear arsenal. we never faced china and russia with major nuclear arsenal and in space, they are tripling what they are doing in space. they have a major reagan-style arms build-up going on and we're going backward with this budget and putting a cap over the next few years. guys, especially as we're talking memorial day and what people sacrificed for this great nation, that is where my concern lies. we comb through language and talk to leadership. >> ashley: everybody has to read through this, too. it came down, on the holiday

weekend. you have concerns and i'm sure others have concerns. i was interested, you are a veteran, are your concerns solely with the military budget portion? >> that is my primary concern. there are other areas such as the wasteful inflation reduction act and pulling back mandates, i think will harm economy and make us more dependent on china who makes solar panels and refines critical minerals that go into this green new deal. biden is ush approximating that direction because of his war on oil and gas and i don't think it went far enough there. i can live with that, but end of the day, we have to definished this country to the likes of what we have never faced.

patriotic hawaiian. of very fitting for memorial day. that's what's most important. that's where it starts amazing product. veterans want american-made. when we have an amazing mission like project k-9 hero that's why we do it at cost. >> ashley: jason, we were talking earlier about the medical costs for working dogs, the service dogs. and i didn't know -- i didn't realize, at least, that when they got out of the service, i mean, who is going to pay for them comes on the handler. >> not every handler is equipped. pat is trying to get education post army. we want to make sure no dog goes without. we don't want to see a veteran go in personal debt because there are no programs in place. after my service in the military in government supervisors and the police force, i decided to starts this organization in 2016 we now have 233 dogs in the program. we are honored protecting those who protected us. >> ashley: 233 dogs. it takes a lot to fund that. >> absolutely. >> how much you were saying was it two months after he got out

he had to have a major surgery? >> yes. >> ashley: how much does something like thatst do. >> vary from 2,000 to $10,000. i figure every week we put a new dog. in that's 52 dog as year. when we commit to that every othe lifetime, an average of 20 onto $30,000 per dog over the history of their life. >> ashley: so grateful to you. >> thank you. >> ashley: there are veterans as well. tell us what does today mean to you? >> it is humbling to be here because of the west point graduate, sadly, you know, i have some friends that i lost. and we are about making a difference but this is a day to honor the incredible men and women who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for a great nation. it's hard being here but just means a lot. >> ashley: it's such -- i have gotten chills all day. it's such an emotional day. but we're so grateful for your service and your brothers and sisters who lost their lives and sacrificed so much for us. >> what are your plans for today? how are you going to celebrate today and remember those? >> well, you know, like dean
