loud too much. pretty smooth sailing and i know we have some time left in this busy travel day. i want to break down all of these numbers for you. they are pretty staggering and some record-breaking pre-pandemic. aaa says that 42.3 million americans will be traveling in some form or fashion this holiday week and peered out that 3.4 million will fly. that is actually about 11% up from last year. so crowds have been large, planes have been packed and patience has no doubt been tested at times. but thankfully, the use usual hustle and bustle with no major incidents reported. the misery map, no doubt we have seen it much worse but right now look at that not too bad 263 delays reported nationwide and just four cancellations. san francisco, chicago o'hare and denver now rounding out the

fortunately early in the congress if you recall the sticking points, this agreement that kevin made to allow members of 72 hours to review the text of any bill before we voted on it. we are no longer voting for things and seeing later. so we got the bill last night. i started looking at it this morning and i'm talking with my colleagues, speaking with constituents and wednesday ni night, this will come down from the house. i'm undecided to be honest. there are things that i like. i have a problem with a few other items. i do believe speaker mccarthy did an excellent job with what he had to work with. i remind everyone on the republican side back home we do not control the senate or the white house. so, he didn't have a lot to work with but i think members of the republican congress and the house right now determining what they can and cannot tolerate. has this gone far enough? and get the lay of the land to

what you have read so far? >> if the goal was to have a deal by june 1st through the fifth, perhaps yes. ralph norman was correct when he said we wanted it to go further than it did. i think what members are coming to terms with and 72 hours is something they can accept considering what it is we are working with. the appetite to endure financial calamity differs on different members of the conference. there are people, myself included who have constituents at home who believe like i believe that in a short-term financial pain potentially could outweigh an effect would outweigh any negative effects of the crisis continuing if it meant we had border security or if it meant real reform that lasted long into the future and past the next 5-10 years. if i can tell my constituents at the borders because i held firm and potential shutdown of the

markets, financial calamity. that is something that we could summit. what we have right now is what we have an kevin mccarthy i think has done a good job. they were definitely things that i don't love about it but i'm not going to be critical. but i am still undecided as i work through this bill. >> bill: when this all started, president biden said he wanted a clean debt ceiling to be passed with no strings attached whatsoever. republicans passed their own spending bill and came to the negotiation table and republicans ended up getting what they wanted. did you consider that in itself a win? >> that is absolutely a win. chuck schumer said they would not budge and this is a sign of the times to come, then that is encouraging. while i'm not thrilled and i don't think anybody is thrilled about the bill we will be voting on, i will not walk away from my vote whether you know vote.

colonel davis, look, you have russia attacking kyiv but is this a show of force or desperation? >> definitely not desperation, unfortunately and over the past two weeks, every day and multiple times in a single day russia stepping up its use of both drones and ballistic missiles distracting not just in kyiv but throughout the entire western part of the ukraine. especially among some of the front areas where the troops are getting ready for this counter offensive and hitting a lot of the fuel depots and storage bins and even some of the equipment getting from the west in recent days. ukraine short on air defense and big ticket once in kyiv. those have been successful as they pointed out. but one of the tactics russia has been using as of late, to send these cheap drones which

are $20,000 apiece to try to suck down million-dollar aircraft missiles. if they take too many of those, they may run out as russia will not run out of drones. something to keep an eye on. >> arthel: interesting. so, when do you expect ukraine's counteroffensive to begin? how massive, how big could it be? could it be the final strike if you will that would force vladimir putin to retreat? is it possible? the national security advisor said on a bbc interview early this morning that it could come in a day. counteroffensive could come any day. he will not give the exact date for obvious security reasons. but they are ready and will do something. when you take a look at the amount of forces trained up over the last several months and with what the west has given them it is entirely possible that

ukraine could have local success in some areas. they don't have enough troops to be able to have a large-scale of events that would physically drive russia out of anywhere. volodymyr zelenskyy to temper expectations on that. it is a big risk. they could have success but could run into the teeth of a lot of doug and russian defensive positions. it has been over six months preparing. so it is a very high-stakes situation. certainly everybody is wishing the best for ukraine. >> arthel: absolutely, we are wishing the best for ukraine, indeed. listen, memorial day and u.s. military man yourself, what are your reflections on this day? >> you know, i can express this holiday without going back to 2010-2011 and some of the troops that i personally met subsequently killed in action.

restaurants are strong, manufacturing coming back. if you look at all of these things, you have a strong economy in many ways but for the impact of inflation. now we see many sectors wages do better than inflation. consumers back spending and personal income and personal consumption is up here are the most thing is that the last fed meeting, powell was clear, chairman powell that we may see more affirming and that the rate is expected to be around 2%, 2.5%. i think it will be tough to get there. i am not surprised to see neutral or price increase in the upcoming year. >> arthel: steve, how do you see it? >> not quite the same way. i'm pretty optimistic on the economy. robert is right we have a strong job market and consumer spending a lot. 22 of the last 24 months, people's incomes are actually falling behind the rate of inflation. they are getting poorer.

you look at the industries right now and they are showing signs of weakness especially housing. so, it is a tough call but i think, don't forget they have raised interest rates to ten times in the last year. this is one of the steepest increases. i'm worried more right now about a recession than i am inflation. but i'm worried about both. >> arthel: before i move on to you, anything to say to that, robert? >> i'm on the other side. i think it is a flip of the coin. with the labor market as strong as it is and jobs people have the ability to demand more wages and actually if you look at the sectors that were hurt the most during covid, actually there wages are doing better than inflation. even instruction 20% and purchasing power is better. consumers are showing they are
