12:01 am
there arheree thirty one congressmen. they are ready to blow u up thie entire deal despite being just. days from default. comphis deal fails, fails completely. and that's why thesetely. membe and others will be absolutely opposed to the deal . l and we will do everything ino our power to sto p and end it now. tomorrow's bill is a bunch fake news and fake talking pointsin that will do nothing to rein ino out-of-control federal spending. nofedera republican in good conscience should support this, consciousnot one republican shl vote for this deal . it is a bad deal . not >> well, not only ours republicans becoming deeply divided on this, but there are even threats to oust mccarthyakb as speaker because of the dealee he mad de with biden. i >> joining me now is texas congressman chip roy and florida congressma n byronnd donalds. both are members of the freedomo caucus and both are againsth met
12:02 am
this deal . welcome to you both, startinglc with you, congressman. ome . and chip roy, what is the alternativ realistic alternative to this? a because i understand were wouldn't formally default. we can pay the interesst or debd debt, but our debt coulde be downgraded and that could be catastrophic. so what is the what i realistics alternative to this deal ? >> well, thanks, kelly . first of all, the everything that we're seeing out ofl th the bill that was put forward,at this this deal , this hatched this weekend is prettyty milquetoast if if that word m might mean something. built frankly, the real problem we face is the four trillion in debt, four trillion dollars in debt. and they push thispushed thing p to january 1st. 2020 five with uncapped amount, which we think will be aboutfour four trillion. and we didn't sign up fre to basically freeze spending for four trillion dollars in debtendingde. the so you ask, what's the alternative? well, it's pretty simple. you have about twenty eight or twenty nine billion dollars of covid funds. you have 80 billion irs mone y. all of us agree should go away.
12:03 am
the number one thing we w campaigned on is getting rid of that irs money. let's sweep that money. let's use it and go to janet yellen and say you've got all gr the money you need to get through june, julye an, and nowa let's fast forward and we can get through september and let's keep movinepg forward to actuale do the work the american people sent us here to do.bu but what you shouldn't do is pile on to post covid expanded government, a government that is now almost 50% bigger than prieth covid and that's exactly what republicans are doing, who support this bill to supbe very clear , they are signing on to a post covid sized of government. we shouldn't do that wit.to m with all due respect to my colleagues, it's a mistake. >> the american people did notse send us here to be inre the majority in the house to do that. matylook, but congressman donal i mean, we don't have we havef we have one half of one thirda e of government. i mean, that that is a reality d here, just the house. so realistically, how do you stop default in a way thatr looks speaker gingrich said this is a step toward sais balancing the budget in a placev where you have divided governmentgovern. this
12:04 am
>> well, look, it's good to be with you this evening. i think if you're talking abouts a step b towards balancing the budget, i would say this is maybe like a tip towards that. not really a step.ally a sy of w the reality of where we are right now is this. this deal is going to the floor for a full vote of the house of representatives. i do notic kaylee thats have n the congressional democrats have not held a press conference todayotheld anc. they they have not really talkedm pef about this deal today. they seem perfectly happy with this deal . and the reason why is ,of is because it keeps all ofnding joe biden's policies and his reckless spending in place. nonone of that is really touchei except for about 12 billionon i dollars in nondefense discretionary. if you're trying to find a pathi forwarndrward, chip talked abouc you could find a minor deal to be able to go back and continue to negotiate this. but at the endday, of the day, is there a minor is there a cap in spending here? is bu.l on but we're still in a long termes trajectory that this bill does not addres s. a stepis a tiptoe nowhere close to a step. know, congressma
12:05 am
n roy, you said earlier, this is in politico. gn you were talking to glenn beck and you, according to politico ,issued what is perhaps the closest thing yet to a motionpe to vacate threat.cate r that would be a motionnd to vacate the speaker. you said then we'r e going to have to regroup and figure out the whole leadership arrangemen thet again, if the by passes. are you threatening to try t to oust the speaker? look what i was talking about there to be very specific. we were very successful for did five months because of what we did in january to realigrenerats the way the republican conference operates. and kevin mccarthy worked inwith good faith, along with the entire leadership team. us with us to advance.e mont i think one ofhs the more successful five months we've had as republicans republi, we c shocked the world by passing the limit, save, grow act. an extraordinaryt inary bi billh would have responsibly raised the debt ceiling with an actual pathn actual, fiscal responsibi. >> w e passed h.r. two to secure the border, but that thatbord wouldn'ter s security bill , wh i agree was a good bill .but >>ho but but how do we get that through the senate?
12:06 am
>> yeah. yeah, well, i mean, first, letur me finish that. we did all that because we werin unified in working together thattoke down broke down this e that's my point. we have to regroup. leadership needs to sit downe tabl with us and bring us all back down to the table so thatd' we don't do exactly whatd. they just did this weekend.limi the limited grow act, however, would have been anwever extraordinary bill for us to leave. sitting out there right up now e through this weekend, becauseasu joe biden was in the in a box.d he was up against the ropesor amd we should have held him there and gotten more for the american people than a spendingpendin freeze foryou four trillion dollars. >> you know, i don't know.cokev bumct how much more you couldi a have gotten kevin mccarthy negotiated up to the last second. i take your point, though, kethoh congressman donald's hakeem jeffries, he had had some words about so-called maga.. republicans apparently are the problem. let's listen ts listen to what e jeffries had to say. intee're not interested in political gamesmanship. we're interested in avoiding a catastrophic default. unfortunately, sted i a far too extreme republicans here who are playin mg an inside gamr as opposed to doing what is rightig for the americane ev
12:07 am
people. >> it'ils the evil extreme. maga republicans, congressman reynolds. i mean, wow, look, i completely disagree with a cheam, except for the fact that he seems kindp of happy with this deal .ai like i was saying earlier, he's not arguing against this deal . and let' arguings be very clear, because this deal keeps all of the democrat policy, all the woke agencies not securing the border, the inflationt secu reduction act subsidies, which are going to be a damage to ou r electric grid, it changes none r of that. and for, what,ea 12 billion dollars this year, we're going to borrow another four trillion. so he can say what he wantst about maga republicans. but let's be serious about this. b maga. t republicans are the only peoplel actually talking aboutic systemt ways of actually getting our nation spending underve d control. we areo goingth to have to do a here in washington, d.c.sh. the american people expect no less. so i rf it takes republicans and magor republicans to make that happen, then sign me up,us
12:08 am
because that is the job that iny front of all of us .ou dem >> yeah.ocdo s willyou'reee right, democrats do seem to like this deal .that and we will get to that next. congressman roy donalds, thank you very much. >> well, now t thahat you've hed why some republicans opposewe'l the deal, we'll find out whyl some say thisas is the way to go . >> joining m ne nooww is one of the republican negotiators of the deal, congressman dustin johnson of south dakota. congressman, you just heard your colleague say this is aa ba bad deal . >> what's your response to that? what ii love byron and chip, but i just don't get where seem're comingt care w from. it seems that their primary argument is that this deal isn't perfect. dealcome on , fellas. welcome to real life.o nobody getres everythingions, they want a negotiation for big wins, though. thourly, this is thefo largest n ever spending reductions inendi american history. two trillionng redtion in am. kf number two , it's the biggest clawback of money from the executive branch in t american history. number three , it's going to unlock american energy by streamlining permitting. that'sat's the biggest deal in,, permitting since
12:09 am
nineteen seventy. and then finally, we w get the e biggest reforms to welfare since 1996. listen, we didn't get into thisn mess overnight. to be able t we're not going to be ableovernh to get out of it overnight. i just got to tell my friends, chip and byron gang, let's take two trillion dollars ine thing savings, go do the same thingne next week and next month. and next year.. >> let's stay at it. know congressman johnson c, whie house economic adviser, was asked about your comments today. and let'about y ans listen to w> said . >> dr. johnson's describing it as a remarkable conservate dust accomplishment. you disagree? is it a remarkable progressive accomplishment? or a remarkable compromiseremarb accomplishment? i would describe it as good,. fair deal that reflects the realities of divided government. that helps preserve what has been an incredibly strong set of progressive accomplishments over the last two and a half>> c years. >> so how could somebody be a conservative accomplishment? in a progressive whene opposi their opposites, after all? gosh, i don't. maybe the white housee bi is engaged in a little bit of spin. republicann.s control, barely
12:10 am
control one half of one third la government. and yet hererg we are with then largest ever spending reduction in american history. kitty, i've goy thist to say th. you and i both seen plenty of p. debt ceiling deal , a debticansv ceiling deals in the past. did republicans ever get anything for those? even when we had unified control of the white house a,god the senate and the house, did we ever get cutta deal this gooe cutting deals like this are nott easy. we've managed to do it. the w and i get ithite. to pu the white house is going to put a happy face on it. but you are going to seeepublica the vast majority ofns vorepublicans vote for this deal tomorrow. $2m going to vote for two trillion dollars in cuts. >> i don't know what byron and chip are going to vote for, but okay, soo want you do also, i want to point out the progressive caucus, jane paul, she's the head of it. she apparently was on a press call and she said that she hadis a very good conversation aboutso this deal and make some changes you could see as positive. they won't be upset if f democrats support this.s be
12:11 am
so how can this be considered, vertov, when the progressive caucus may not whip againsts thisma bill ? >> they may not just say we're in kaili. ing th republicans have got to quit defining themselves by just what are liberals against? we've got to figure out what's conservative and gwhat'so get ia and not just once.ve we've got to be willing to get it week in and week. here's what i know. here's what's conservative. cutting two trillion dollars worth of spending in the next two years, clawing back twentyod nine billion dollars worth of covid funds, some of which would have gone to china unl unlocking american energy and putting americans back to work. >> ameri listen, if john paul wants to vote for that. listen, paul , welcome to thepat party. >> those are conservative wins, and i'm going to vote for them.e yeah, it doesn't take us back fr to pre covid spending levels, but i do tak>> it e the politice realities of the moment. >> congressman, thank you veryhe much. sidejust heard from both sides of the argument from multiple wo congressmen. and don't get me wrong debate.ai that is a good thing. thing
12:12 am
but this is becoming a constantt with republicans. it seemsans it. e on why is it always feeling like we are on the defensive and we have fractures in our caucus? democrats, they're alwayssitt united . they're just sitting back eating popcorn. republicans were battling it out with eacinbackg e battlih on >> this isn't how it's supposed to be. joining me now is victor davis hanson, senior fellow at ds senf the hoover institution. >> and charlie hurt washingtone times opinion editor and foxedxs news contributor victor, i always love hearing i your take. it does often feel likt e we're on the defensive, but i don'tdei think this moment is goingneon to define an election. i think we'll gei thint throughe just fine.bu >> but what are your thoughts? >> well, i mean, republicans,w i they're going over the cliff and they're arguing. but how do wd rde get ho thew dl speed toward the cliff? i mean, the republican party, we've lost seven of the last eight popular votes and we haven't won 51% of a presidential election since nineteen eighty eight . and this is the time when westa, won fourteen hundred seats,
12:13 am
local and state, underunde t the obama administration.had to >> so, yes, i think that that we need to cut spending.y but ifha you only, as we said ,n if you only havee- a half of one third of government and you only have a nine seat majority in the house, how are you going to do that really when you can't win a national election? so we have the presidencye ha and two thousand seventeen, wen had it in two thousand eighteen . we hav 201e it in 2019 and we hd in twenty , seventeene and eighteen. we have the senate and wuse have the house. >> and wn e ran on six hundred billion dollar deficit prie thescod precourt. now we should be alarmedic because these are historic deficitsicits.. we've never seen two , three , four trillion, five , six , sixl almost up to nine percent of gdp and we have one hundred anda 30% of gdp in national debt. so this is a crisis. you ha havee gove tt to take a deep brh and say when you have the house and you have the senate and you. have the presidency, then it's time to get a balanced budget,
12:14 am
but not to run up 600 billiongo demothen to get furious and go crazy because we have the democrats carry that legacy . and we, the bush administration, the obama administration, the trump administration, and now bidentdt is out doing them all.he bu t the republicans have to at some point say we are going an be fiscally responsible when we have all the control ofe will government. and i hope we will do that in. twenty , twenty four . >> i certainly hope so.ntry i mean, the future ofo our country depends on it. charlie, i .knowyo i do wonder if you mention this actually earlier about the culture wars. i meantheythem, they call theme the culture wars, but i feel like this debt limit debate kind of distractts fros from so the bigger things going on in our country. charlie, transitioning kidy s at a young age, in kindergartenaphy classrooms, the schooll shooti shootings we see across this country like these are things republican should be talking about, not fighting battles that we can'lking ab t win. >> i jf we don't have a united. government, we just can't win them.
12:15 am
>> yeah, well, of course,r in there's no greater culture war in my book. thethan the notion that we'rel going to rack up thirty one trillion dollarsedit through debt and on a credit card and dump it on ourn an children. grandchildren. and , you know, republicans are up against a crazed party, lunatics who and, you know, , just over the last week we weree listening to eleanor presley talk about in religious terms, the importance of racking up trillion s of more debt to dump on her children and grandchildren. >> let me just ask you , doeen done you think there's more that could have been done here right now? you think mccarthy h t could have>> gotten a better deal ? >> no, i think that this is at o tremendous accomplishment for for the house leadership, given the very difficult numbers tha. they're facing. that said , i also think that t the house republicans have a stronger hand than i think higive thethat a lot of people m credit for when they come up with a bill , a spending bill . that's that's the startinge star point. that's supposed to be the starting point. ting. ason thethe reason the foundersd the house to start all taxatios

bills and all set spending wereh bills is because they were the closest to the people.presea and so when the house ofmajori representatives, howeverty, smal the majority is , comes up with a spending bill , comes upi with a a debt ceiling bill , then then the rest of washington should sit up and listen. and if we wind k unow,p with the government shutdown, we've had numerous government shutdowns in the past. every time ti the media blamesy si republicans. and if you go back and look atng every single one of those, when when republicans emerge from those they've been b blamed for them. they either they either holdin t hetheir own in the next electiot or they improve themselves in the next election. d so iand so i think actually tt this is a very good fight.e poin >> i get the point that you can start with savings now and then keep working on it.s but i do think that the house h, has a very strong hand here, no matter how small the majority is . >> it's a good point. and the fighfit against mccartha as messy as it was, you know, many iterations of votes, itr th

they're engaged, and they really want to hear fromenergiz kaylcandidates because ultimately they want the individual tha thet will be whoever the democratic nominee is . president , if it'dents a president biden. but ultimately to make sureubli that we have a republic inca you a republican in the white house kenned0 four , if it's biden, like you said, kennedyesque making some headway there on the democrat side of the aisle. but i know it's craz it'sy. let's pop up the real clear politics average there in your state. it has a trumpr pretty much trouncing desantis by twenty two points. this is in your state. it'ss in you the average. and you've said , though, that things happen, anything can change. you just got to stay i vnhink te the game. you have to be viable. >> so you think these numbers could shift at some point? oh, it is way too early. i mean, the first debate isn't until august or caucusesy, febru and until january , february. i'll give you a couple statistics in two thousand and seven in may of two thousand seven , romney, mccain and giuliani were the top three candidates, , romneyaccording to real

>> joining me now is ned ryan ,n ceo of american majority. g >> i mean, what am i missing here, ned? that's crazy. crazy . it's insane, kayleigh. kay it's it's intellectually incoherent. ne really does tak le gaslightin to a whole new level whew n when they're saying that a transgender, mentally disturbed transgender girlendela murdered in cold blood , six people, including a nine isi year old girl, somehow that'sisr justification for them issuing this advisors eveny. hs but it gets even weirder if you look down. banndhs is also citing the the s that are banning gender affirming care as though and saying those are acts of the violence againstca the transgender community, as though banning medical mutilatetion o of underage children is violence against the mentally disturbedit's. but as more of the same scale in which you see these administrative state bureaucrats really trying to weaponizes government against any dissent against democrats and their allies, crazy and radical agenda reallyi is an intimidation tactice
