we hope the gofundme page does well. will's run across america for cancer. wonderful to have you. >> bill: wonderful stuff. thank you. >> thank you. >> dana: the house oversight committee is moving closer to holding f.b.i. director christopher wray in contempt of congress after the bureau refuses to turn over a document relating to an allegation of bribery involving joe biden when he was vice president. welcome to a new hour of "america's newsroom." i'm dana perino. you feel lazy now? after the guy who ran across america two marathons a day? >> bill: 55 miles. william. nice to meet you. the form claims v.p. biden took a bribe in exchange for a policy decision. james comer put out a subpoena for the document earlier this month. there is plenty of evidence for the f.b.i. to investigate. >> we know from the evidence
7:01 am
we've already produced there is a pattern across the globe of joe biden's family receiving money from foreign nationals. there is a pattern here that would suggest this allegation is more than credible and it is way past time for the f.b.i. to determine whether or not they need to move forward with an investigation. >> dana: the f.b.i.'s refusal and allegations made in the document coming as president biden's 2024 campaign kicks off, very quietly. david spunt is live at the justice department with more. >> a story that is escalating quickly, no question about that. we know f.b.i. director christopher wray and house oversight chair james comer are scheduled to speak in a few hours early afternoon in this highly-anticipated phone call. comer claims he is being stonewalled by the f.b.i. but the f.b.i. is saying listen, we will cooperate with you but you have to give us a little bit more time to give you a specific reason for why we're not going
7:02 am
to just hand over a document to congress. comer will speak with wray. we're told by a source familiar with the call there is a possibility the director will allow comer and a few others to see this document in question but in a secure location. the bureau is not going to email it or send it over to capitol hill. the document is a standard f.b.i. form called a 1023. it is used across the bureau when someone comes to an agent and wants to make an allegation or give a tip. the 1023 may prove true or may not. this specific document contains a claim that then v.p. biden accepted a bribe for a policy decision. comer hasn't seen the document but he says a credible whistleblower claims it is there on paper. even if biden never did such a thing, comer is concerned the document just collected dust and the f.b.i. did nothing about it. comer may learn on the phone
7:03 am
call. maybe the f.b.i. did the investigation and it was a false allegation. it could be a true allegation that the f.b.i. found out but the bureau did nothing or the f.b.i. potentially moved on or never moved on the information. in the meantime, comer and house speaker kevin mccarthy have said they would move to hold director wray in contempt of congress for missing yesterday's deadline to turn it over. the f.b.i. said in a statement last week director wray scheduled a telephone call for today providing additional details of the f.b.i.'s extraordinary accommodation to sate the subpoena request. any discussion of escalation under these circumstances is unnecessary. dana and bill, the f.b.i. saying satisfy the subpoena request. the subpoena was for the document. it looks like comer and his crew may actually see the document. they just may have to do it in a secure setting. we won't know any of those details until the call takes place in a few hours.

breaking the laws of the united states and a magnet helping draw the flood of illegals across our borders. i will sign an executive order making clear to federal agencies that under the correct interpretation of the law, going forward the future children of illegal aliens will not receive automatic u.s. citizenship. >> a super pac for florida governor ron desantis tweeted trump talked about doing it and why didn't he. he would face immediate pushback not just on capitol hill but in the courts also. the idea comes from the 14th amendment that says all persons born or naturalized in the united states and subject to the jurisdiction there of are citizens of the u.s. and of the state where they reside. trump is not the only politician who has ever called for an end to the birthright law. lindsey graham supported the idea in 2018. i haven't seen immediate reaction from the white house or

event. didn't get much of an answer there. how does this fit into your strategy to try to dethrone a first-term president? >> you know, biden could do that during covid, right? we knew he was hiding in the basement and intent nallly avoiding the american people. i don't think he can do that in 2024. it is a strategy. he hasn't held a single campaign event since announcing or gone to any of the battleground starts. he sides from press. fox doesn't allow it to happen. i think the voters are very unhappy. the gallup poll just came out over 80% of the country is dissatisfied. they do not feel like the country is heading in the right direction. to have a president hole up and refuse to address the american people and talk to them, i think it's not a good strategy. when you see republicans, they are all over in iowa, new hampshire, south carolina,
7:10 am
nevada, all of our candidates are crisscrossing the country and talking to real americans. >> dana: ronna, look at this quinnipiac poll. just to put an emphasis on this. this was asking what are the most urgent issues facing the country. asking republicans. inflation and immigration by far going away. so that will be what republicans want to talk about, i imagine. come august, do you think former president trump, who is in this commanding lead, will join the debate stage at the rnc debate? >> i think he is going to make a determination later. i think his campaign has different voices saying why would you get on the debate stage if you are up this far? and then there are others saying take biden head on and get on the debate stage or voters will want to hear from you. that will be up to him. i want all of the candidates on the debate stage. i do want president trump there because i think we have to take it to biden.

every time we talk about immigration and we talk about stopping the flow of fentanyl and protecting our kids and stopping crime and supporting rule of law and supporting school choice. the things that republicans stand for we get to contrast against the m.i.a. president hiding from the american people. i love the opportunity to take up all the oxygen and talk about what republicans stand for versus democrats. >> dana: ronna mcdaniel, thank you. >> bill: good to have you on. we'll talk a thousand times. >> dana: she will be busy this summer, indeed. >> bill: breaking news from the hill. house speaker kevin mccarthy a moment ago speaking again on the debt ceiling vote. a bit earlier today last hour he said it is going the pass and become law. a moment ago from our correspondent aishah hosni on the hill. >> does it matter to you you won't have the entire conference to you? >> no, what matters is if it
7:12 am
would become law. if i could work reforms for welfare. we cut the red tape so you build things and make america competitive. everybody has a right to their own opinion. on history i would want to be here with this bill today. >> bill: he has spoken many times for several days now, a week and a half now and what he did in the house was quite an achievement getting everybody together and pass that. >> dana: he has been underestimated several times. i imagine he would not go out and say the bill is going to pass unless he was very confident. >> bill: we're doing our tally now. we believe 35 republicans no votes. 222 in the caucus right now. two democrats who are no votes on the record. one is aoc. and the other is the one out of washington state. >> dana: i'm sure they factored

7:39 am
what you are asking specifically. ukrainians are denying their involvement here. i suspect someone certainly working on the ukrainian behalf has conducted these drone attacks. i think it is a strategic mistake. the russians are killing innocent civilians making war on civilians because they lost the ground war against the ukrainians and trying to break the will of the ukrainians. we know they've commit atrocities. the ukrainians shouldn't do anything to the russian people. they aren't the enemy and pull back on any supporters they may have that are attempting to hurt and harm the russian people. obviously the drones are attacking apartment buildings and doing that very thing. there is nothing to be gained by the ukrainians with that kind of behavior. military targets inside of russia i believe are suitable targets and appropriate. >> dana: general jack keane. let's stay in touch on this as it looks to be ratcheting it up.
