administration is handling the china threat. do you have similar concerns? >> i do have similar concerns although i think they are beginning to move in a better direction. i think the early days of biden administration was marked regarding china but honestly, i think both sides of the aisle are getting their heads on straight. we are coming together. we are understanding that china is not just a military threat but they are a tremendous economic threat and we cannot give the chinese communist party the kind of control over food, medicine and critical minerals that unfortunately we have largely allowed them to have over the last 20 years. mike: on domestic issues, you were close to negotiations on the debt package considering democrats run the white house and the united states senate and you only have a single-digit majority in the house, how difficult were these talks for your republican colleagues? >> well, republicans really need today stay focused you're right. we have control of barely one

half of one-third of government. i know there are people out there who say the deal wasn't perfect, well, welcome to real life. there is no perfect deal. at some point that's what a negotiation is, it's a little bit of give and take but given the kind of relatively limited leverage republicans had i think it was a huge conservative victory. the largest ever spending cut in american history, the largest ever claw-back of funds from an executive agency and unlocking of american energy and the biggest changes to welfare since 1996. we didn't get everything but we got a lot. mike: should this agreement basically reassure the american people that divided government can work at times? >> well, divided government is a mess. there are a lot of knuckle heads in washington, d.c. i don't want to whisper sweet to americans that everything is fine. we still have a lot of work to go but at some point, listen, i

don't have a magic wand. i would love to have a republican in white house here in a couple of years, hopefully we will, but for right now we have to be smart enough to understand that we are not going to get a home run every time off the bat, we have to be hard working enough to dig in at the plate and continue to hit singles and doubles whenever we can. we did not get into these problems overnight. we will not get out of them overnight. we need a commitment to try to get to them every single day. mike: congressman, safe travels, grateful for your time. >> thank you. mike: from the other side of the aisle, democratic congressman from michigan debbi dingell joins me now. congresswoman, welcome. >> great to see you this sunday. mike: great to see you. what about the debt deal, your thoughts on the democratic side of things? >> look, there are many things in there that i do not like,

but, you know, my late husband used to frequently tell everybody compromise is not a dirty word. neither side is 100% happy, our job is to not make this a win for democrats or republicans but to make it a win for the american people. we have to keep working together. i agree with much of what dusty said this afternoon. i disagree who i want to see in the white house but we could not not pay our bills. the consequences on every american would have been devastating and we've got the job done. mike: you're a member of the energy and commerce committee, there were provisions in this package to speed up permitting for fossil fuel and for clean energy projects, is that a win for the american people? >> you know, i'm going to work very hard to make sure it's not a loss for the american people. nipa which was what amended the magna carta of environmental

law, we need to modernize our permitting laws but we need to do it so that we are protecting communities having the right to have a say and protecting the water, the air and the ground that they live on. so i have concerns and will work very hard to make sure we protect communities and the people that live in them. mike: this package did not tackle the massive issue of building transmission and pipelines to get energy to consumers, how critical is that need? >> it's absolutely something that we have to make a priority. i hope yet this year because the fact of the matter is our energy grid is critical to our national and economic security. we need to upgrade it, we need to reform our transmission laws. there are many people working together on this. the white house knows we need to do it. the environmentalists know we need to do it. republicans and dems do. there are a number of proposals out there and i hope that we continue to make this priority in the next weeks and months. mike mining democrats from

colorado say the democrats gave more than they got on debt package, do you agree with that? >> i have said that. it deeply concerned me. i was married to the man that wrote nipa to be perfectly frank and i know his intentions were. this is a man who loved the outdoors and board member to have nra but i feared things that are in there which is why i'm focused on making sure that we modern sides our permitting but do not harm the american people and local communities and air, water and ground they live on, period. mike: let's look at the latest job's report, 339,000 jobs added unemployment at 3.7%. in your view, congresswoman, what is the state of the u.s. economy? >> look, it is growing. unemployment rate remains low. businesses are starting to feel -- find people to fill their jobs. i'm also somebody that's home.

rounds. terrifying moments just after 3:30 saturday afternoon caught on video. the suspect walks in restaurant wearing red hoody and ski mask and reaches into his bag and customers including young children rushed to find safety. the suspect continues to fire weapon as he makes his way behind the countertop shooting at the clerk. police sources say the shooting stemmed from a previous incident and that the suspect and victim knew each other. now police say the victim a 35-year-old man was shot once in the behind, officers say he was taken to the hospital and currently in stable condition. as of right now the number of shootings and shooting victims are on the decline here in new york city but year to date stats do show increases, though, in ggran grand larsoning of

cott, former manchin communication director. welcome to both of you. so this week we expect at least two more republicans to jump in, vice president pence and also governor chris christie, mara, do they move the needle? >> it would be very interesting to watch especially with chris christie if both pence and christie make it to the stage to combat pith with candidates jumping into the race and manufacture as we have heard is sign of promising opportunity for republican voters to have a chance at really evaluating who do we want in our future and i think this is an opportunity for voters to ask the tough questions and do research of their own and take a look at these. we have some bonafide conservative candidates that have leadership and it's worth taking a look at. mike: let's put numbers on the screen for viewers at home. a look at the early, early race

so far. president trump with big lead over governor desantis and then pence, nikki haley all in single digits, john, how do pence and chrsitie the race? >> they don't. in a different republican party, you know, 10, 15 years ago this would be a great race. you'd have real conservatives debating, policy positions right now it's between donald trump and ron desantis, one is yelling woke as much as he can and the other is saying i don't like woke and i didn't commit this crime. so like that's -- it's an unfortunate part of where our politics have gone, i would love to see timchris christie debating what policies they want and it's great for democrats and we can sit back and let the fight happen and the more people that get in, better for us. mike: you made reference to the former president, let's play a

you know, really take pride in the fact that this is an important opportunity as a voter, what the future would look like. elections matter. mike: from quinnipiac do you think joe biden is too old to effectively serve another four-year term as president or not? 65% say yes too old, 32% no. jonathan, that has to trouble the president's team and democrats. >> sure, i think -- you don't want to see the poll numbers but if he's too old the last 3 years of his accomplishments i would love to be that old. he has gotten so much done just legislatively it's hard to argue that he's not up for the job. he's -- he's getting everything done that democrats have wanted and he's cutting bipartisan deals something he said he would do on the campaign. something that all of us said no chance, can't do it. bipartisanship is dead in washington. he just signed another bipartisan deal. so if that's what too old is, i

hope i'm that old when i get to that point. mike: we saw president biden take a pretty bad spill at the air force academy graduation the other day and i'm being very respectful about it. it was awful to see. but that has to play into these numbers about whether he's too old, right? >> absolutely. and it's unfortunate truly. and i know a lot of people -- well, he tripped over a sandbag. absolutely he tripped over it. i know from my grand mother that fell after the fight and decided after the fight that she was old and her health deteriorated from that point forward. there are implications because of a fall like that. it's important to remember that former president trump is getting up there in age and so it would be hypocritical not to point out the same thing for both biden and president trump. but maybe we are saying one is too old, you cannot say the other one is as well. mike: looking at the age polling, any chance a higher-profile democrat jumps in? >> no. i think you have seen the two --

to die of pancreatic cancer this year. so it has been a death sentence for people who get diagnosed with it, right? >> yes, absolutely. pancreatic cancer is a very deadly and aggressive form of cancer. it has a dismal 5-year survival rate of 8 to 10% and it's currently the third leading cause of cancer deaths in the u.s. in 2025 the second leading cancer -- cause of cancer deads second to lung cancer. right now only the main cure for pancreatic cancer is surgery and despite even undergoing the very invasive and complex surgery, up to 90% of patients will have recurrence to have disease at only 9 months. there are other modalities of treatment like chemotherapies and radiation but they are just not as effective. mike: all right, dr. khan giver us good news. >> very exciting news and we are on the frontier of personalized

because i'm getting tired being indoors and while he enjoys the heat all the way from gulf of mexico stretching to great lakes to canada. kind of interesting setup here. you look at the east coast, temperatures in the 60's, below average. all of the heat in the middle of the country, denver 54-degrees. large area where you're dealing with extreme heat but on either side things are cooler. this is looking at temperature averages. everything in yellow, orange and red color, there are spots getting closer to 20-degrees above average. up and down the entire east coast you are below where you would typically be the time of year and that's also the case in west in warm area. what are the actual temperatures? we heard around 90 in the nashville area and that's the case stretching along here. cincinnati close to 90-degrees, 90 in st. louis, 90 in kansas city, a lot of heat being pulled up and building in this area. this is going to linger to

tomorrow. temperatures largely there a couple of degrees swing but 91-degrees in st. louis and even as you run into tuesday, kind of a similar forecast again there over in the omaha area mid 80's in cincinnati and 92 in st. louis. record-breaking highs, just a bit of north in some cases. otherwise if you're not in this warmer area, maybe you're in one of the spots where it's been quite a bit cooler, boston 64-degrees. the heat will start spilling off towards the east but not happen very quickly. the numbers will continue to climb, temperatures in new york city today closer to 70-degrees. you can see tomorrow jumping to 77. the red drifting that direction. you will see the heat return here just a little bit starting to build, but still nothing like we are seeing back off across some of the more western states, midwest and the plains. otherwise and i will leave you with today's forecast, we talked
