document that republicans say reveals a bribery scheme involving then vice president joe biden. >> steve: pierre doocy joins us live from the white house with the latest. bonjour, pierre. >> peter: bonjour. any feelings about democrats and republicans working together to head off a default are gone. house republicans have not been able to publicly prove their claims about biden family corruption and they are now preparing to take out their frustrations on the fbi director. [loud equipment] >> this document is not even classified. what is the first thing that director wray said? he didn't acknowledge whether he had it. he said he wouldn't provide it. if he doesn't come forth and allow everybody to see it, we will move contempt charges against him on thursday. >> peter: congresswoman anna paulina luna, florida republican tweets just left meeting from house oversight. the fbi is afraid their informant will be killed if unmasked, based on the info he

has brought forward about the biden family. if director wray is held in contempt. the house could refer the matter to the u.s. attorney or technically have him held by the house sergeant at arms. wray did comply with the request to a degree, but the document the g.o.p. wants public is apparently part of an active investigation. >> i didn't pick up anything from the fbi that somehow that tip motivated the delaware investigation or became some kind of central component, no. in any event, if that is true, as the chairman was saying. all the more reason that that document should not be out there if it's part of an ongoing investigation. >> peter: the fbi says the fbi halls continually demonstrated its commitment to accommodate the committee's request. including by producing the document in a reading room at the u.s. capitol. this common sense safeguard is often employed in response to congressional requests and in court proceedings to protect important concerns such as the physical safety of sources and

the integrity of investigations. tthe escalation of a contempt vote under niece circumstances is unwarranted. at the white house they are saying this is now another fact-free stunt sustained by chairman comer not to conduct legitimate oversight to spread thin innuendo to try to damage the president politically and get himself media attention. now james comer is responding to that. >> my question to the fbi was what exactly have you done with this accusation because the fbi admitted that this is a highly credible, in fact one of their most highly credible human sources. and their answer to me, sean was well, it's now a part of an ongoing investigation. we don't know which investigation. we don't know when the investigation began. all we know is two weeks ago they tried to act like this form didn't exist. >> peter: so, ultimately, this is about an unproven and yet unvetted tip from a source that

the fbi has paid for information from and i do just want to share this. this almost never happens but somebody here at the white house just sent me an article about this and says the fbi had reviewed and closed the inquiry into claims at the center of the hill fight. that is a "the washington post" article. the first line says the fbi and justice department under then attorney general william p. barr reviewed allegations from a confidential informant about joe biden and his family. [loud equipment] >> no grounds for further investigative steps. that is straight from the white house to you live at the top of the 7:00 a.m. hour. back to you. >> steve: so, peter, there are at least two people awake at the white house other than you. there's the why driving the street sweeper and there is the guy who just faxed you or emailed you that "the washington post" article. >> peter: yeah. just the two. >> brian: i did ask congressman

chaffetz that and he says how do we know that? he has very little trust in the "the washington post" and the writer. we should probably get william barr involved. william barr farmed it out for further investigation and we'll see where this goes. >> steve: all right, thanks, peter. >> ainsley: mercy pierre. >> luckily in the afternoon they took the press conference of mr. as we heard mr. comer talk about a highly reliable confidential informant somebody the fbi has used in the past. what he did was he heard from somebody else the highly credible confidential source could not verify if what they were told was true and to peter's point about what "the washington post" is reporting this morning, the trump department of justice did investigate but could not

substantiate and so the trump department of justice signed off on dropping the investigation. and jamie raskin, during his press conference, said there was no evidence to corroborate the allegations he referred to all of this as simply second hand hearsay. >> brian: earlier today, jason chaffetz joined us. he had james comer's job. and he said, wait a second. just because the fbi says they looked into it, opened it and closed it, it doesn't mean they have actually done that especially what we have seen over the last few years. watcher. >> the american taxpayers paid for this. the government works for the taxpayers. and you know what? it's an unclassified document. you can't say that enough. it's unclassified. and the fbi, look where they gravitated to. they went from oh, maybe there is not a document oh to yes there is a document. to oh yes you can see this document. it's unclassified. duly issued subpoena. you have to produce it. so raskin is saying well, that was put to bed and they found

nothing. okay. then release the document. they are hiding something. james comer is over the target. that's why they are so desperate to make sure it doesn't get released. >> steve: there was also one -- during their dueling press conferences yesterday, mr. comer and mr. raskin both said completely different things. and i heard one of the -- one of our analysts on fox say it sounds like they went to two different things because mr. comer said it was an open investigation. and mr. raskin said it was a closed investigation. he didn't know what he was talking about. and everything that we had heard was that they had signed off on closing the investigation in the pittsburgh office. and apparently william barr, the attorney general, put the investigation in the field office in pittsburgh to handle the ukraine allegations. specifically. >> ainsley: comer read the documents on capitol hill or on the hill. he reads it. he now wants a copy of that for the whole committee.

so think can all read and t. and see what's in it if not you are held in contempt of court. what exactly does that mean? what happens now if he doesn't hand over that document? >> steve: there will be a referral to the department of justice. and then joe biden's department of justice will decide whether or not it's not going anywhere. >> ainsley: we know what will happen. let's talk about 2024. mike pence filed paperwork with the federal election commission. he is supposed to announce tomorrow. tonight in new hampshire, chris christie is expected to announce. and then chris sununu has said he is not going to run. he has taken the last six months to really look at things he said and he made his decision he is not going to run. he has been reelected four times to these two-year terms in new hampshire. they love him there. but is he not going to run. he has been a big critic of donald trump. someone else who is in the race who was the ambassador to the u.n., under donald trump is nikki haley, she -- remember when she first threw her hat in the ring and she was gharls stolen and she made that pitch

for administering mental competency test for politicians over the age of 755? she was looking at joe biden. we watched joe biden fall down the stairs and fall on the stage literally on his face. and so she is now saying -- she said a vote for joe biden is really a vote for kamala harris. listen. >> let's be very clear, if they think it's going to be president biden, a vote for president biden is actually a vote for president harris. we are running against kamala harris, make no bones about it. the "new york times" knows it. every liberal knows it. they know that it's kamala harris that's going to end up being president of the united states if joe biden wins this election. >> brian: so can you believe that's worse news than joe biden running is he has got 41% real clear average approval rating. >> and it's heading in the wrong direction with 33% approval on the economy. but, yet, if you bring up kamala harris and actually weighs down the ticket and this is somebody who was senator, attorney general from california who came in with such high hopes.

>> thanks for having me on. always here for the free food. >> steve: at the conclusion of today's festivities. >> if we do a good job can we have one of those? >> steve: absolutely. that's at the end. taylor, let's start with you. how impacted are the people at home going to be when saudi arabia cuts a million barrels a day? >> yeah. tbd is the answer. in theory, basic economics would tell you that lower supply means higher prices at the pump. on average, i think goldman sachs looking at the price per barrel to did you go up $1 to $6. we're not quite sure how that translates yet to the people at home. what right now has been keeping lower prices at home has been all of this talk of a recession. if that continues, prices will stay low. if the consumer continues to be resilient price also go up. >> opec cut a billion and a half barrels in april. prices will go up because the global economy has been so slow and the u.s. economy has been slowing, we really haven't seen

prices go up. it's a question really of when not if, that could be a little while if the economy remains slow. >> steve: sure, ultimately, at the same time, they have cut desk oil production. >> yes. >> steve: futures stuff. >> right. >> steve: because the administration wants us all to buy electric cars. i get it. i have a hybrid and it's great when it when it drives on the electricity. i love that because it's like free miles. the cars are more expensive and the stuff is in short supply. >> yeah. so we talked a lot on our program about the deletion of this strategic petroleum reserve about the spr. how we sort of drained that now that prices were yesterday. start to refuel that we aren't. this administration doesn't want to do that i think if we started to do and increased a lot of the domestic production that certainly would help. you see a lot of g.o.p. candidates out there talking about that as sort of a major theme going forward. we haven't yet seen that. >> you are right that the push to evs has he taken our eye

new york. air quality alerts from millions of folks from new york to boston and burlington, vermont, philadelphia, baltimore. this is going to be a very big story over the next couple of days. if you have respiratory issues. elderly, of course your kids. you want to stay indoors. look at the smoke tracker. this is really incredible. historic wildfires in eastern canada and the smoke is moving down south as far as south as. so we will be tracking that fire weather alerts right now. it is very dry across pennsylvania and portions of new jersey. so, any wildfires that are sparked today, that's going to be a big deal. isolated dry thunderstorms in the forecast. that's going we are going to watch other the next couple of days, critical fire weather outlook for parts of the northeast. there is your forecast today. we will see mostly sunny skies for parts of the plain states and then very warm temperatures for the northern plains and then, of course, that smoke is going to be the biggest story on fox weather.com. we will keep you up to date. all right, ainsley, over to you and some pastries.
