a cool idea. >> brian: take that, kraft. >> i'm not sure what we sent in there. >> brian: check in with you again. 5 minutes now after the hour. bring in the man of the hour. he is the mayor of miami. he is francis suarez and as of just a few hours ago, he is now a 2024 presidential candidate going for the g.o.p. nomination. mr. mayor, what led you to this decision? at what point did you say this is something from i'm thinking about it to i'm going to do it? >> good morning, brian. what i thought about was i wanted to be part of the conversation. i feel that our political discussions today have become toxic, have become divisive. as a mayor with an incredible track record of success of keeping taxes low, keeping people safe, and leaning into innovation, that is a formula for american prosperity. i have done it in a generational fashion. we need to confront generational challenges from a competitive perspective. challenges like the rise of china and the rise of

technology. we need to position our country as a receiver of the prosperity that can come being successful positioning ourselves. that was part of it. the other part of it is being, you know, potentially an exciting candidate that can expand the party, you know that, can communicate with hispanics that are trending republican. we have seen democrats call hispanics latin x doesn't resonate with them. we have seen them call them san antonio tacos which doesn't resonate with hispanics, there is an opportunity to grow the party with hispanics, with young voters that we lost to joe biden by 26% which is, you know, unfathomable. penal in cities. i was elected by 85% in a democrat city. and reelected by 80%. i took miami-dade county from the year before i got elected that, you know, donald trump lost by 30 points to hillary clinton to now plus 10, a 40 point swing in 2022. >> you know, i know you didn't

support donald trump in 2016 or 2020. what is your message to his supporters? >> my message to his supporters is i respect the anger and the fact that they feel marginalized and oftentimes disconnected for either the donor class or the upper class. they don't understand the frustration unequal administration of justice. people don't understand the frustration over the fact that they think a government doesn't serve them. as a mayor, i'm connected to the people. i'm someone who gives out my cell phone number. i'm someone who is easily accessible. and i think my record and my track record of cleaning taxes to the lowest level and reducing them to the lowest level in our history, which prompted, you know, double dignity growth. the fact that i have been able to successfully reduce crime in my city, where you see lawlessness and crime increasing across america, we have -- last year we were the per capita low since 1964. i was born in 1977.

this year we are 40% below that homicide number. and we have increased wages. we're number one in the nation wage growth and number one in unempemployment. our country should be focused on innovation. not a bunch of stuff that our enemies want us to be focused on kryptonite democracy. >> steve: that's good. and in that last soundbite. what is your cell phone number? [laughter] >> 305. >> brian: no no. >> 992. >> brian: no, no. >> ainsley: i don't think you should do it. it now that you are a presidential candidate. i will tell you guys something. i was at the west side conservative club breakfast in iowa. it was started in 2005. and at the end of my speech, i gave out my cell phone number. you know, that's the first time since we started this club that anybody has ever given out their cell phone number. i give it out on the campaign trail. i think people should have access to me.

text me. for example right now if i'm doing a good job. text me. if i missed something hey you forgot to say this. hey, we like your ty. what are. >> steve: that's great. >> brian: we do like your ty. >> steve: can you do it yourself. ainsley just asked about donald trump. did you not support him. how do you characterize your relationship with the guy who was the governor of the great state of florida both he and donald trump both florida weres as you are as well. you all want the same job. what is your relationship with ron desantis? >> well, we do all want the same job but we all have different approaches. you know, my approach is i'm a unifier, like i said, i'm someone that got elected by 85%. reelected by 80%. i focus on prosperity which, for me, i have a 9-year-old and 5-year-old. i want to make sure that the world and that the country they inherit is one that they can be successful in i see what is happening across america and american cities with increased

homelessness. we you disciple ceased 90%. mental health, have you seen, you know poverty going through the roof in american cities. no focus on our children's future. we get caught up in a lot of the drama. and we don't focus a lot on how we are going to be competitive going into the future. >> steve: what is your relationship like with ron desantis? there are rumors about whether or not you guys get along. do you get along? >> you know, the governor is not particularly a relationship guy. you know, he doesn't have, from what i understand, a great relationship with a lot of our federal elected officials, that's why he lost, i think 12 out of 13 endorsements in his own state for congressman because he doesn't call people and try to build a relationship. i'm very different, like i said i'm accessible, i call people, i'm a people person. i love people. and i look at them in the eye and shake their hands, you know, when i see them. so that's never been an issue

for me. and it won't be an issue we're just very different people. >> ainsley: what is your goal? right now, donald trump accord dog poll is winning. if he wins, he couldn't make you his vice president because you couldn't have a president and vice president from the same state. what is your goal? would you want to serve on his cabinet or role in washington or one day serve as governor of florida? >> well, my goal is to be the president of the united states. and i think in the republican primary two choices donald trump increasing in the poll. last poll had him at close to 70% among republicans and there is everybody else. the question is would i rather be known and unexciting or unknown and exciting? and i think i'm unknown and exciting. i think i'm a breath of fresh air for republican voters. i'm hopeful that i can inspire people, aside from my record, i think your record is important. you have to be able to do something more. you have to be able to touch people and inspire them in a way that can allow them to think of

themselves in a positive knew future. if you can do that, it's possible that you can do anything. what's great about america is that they often go with an underdog. often go with someone who is unknown. and we have seen that throughout presidential politics in history. >> brian: cubans really appreciates freedom and tend to vote more for republicans. first generation, your parents come over from cuba. you know how horrible communism is. when you did have a chance to vote. you voted democrat. you voted for andrew gilliam and voted for hillary clinton. for people out there that says well, he is not a real republican, what do you tell them? >> well, first of all, i say it's fake news. did i not vote for hillary clinton. i know some people say that i think what they confuse is the fact that i didn't vote for the former president with thinking that i voted for hillary clinton. did i not vote for hillary clinton. i wrote in marco rubio in 2016. and i wrote in mike pence in 2020. so i know that a lot of my detractors and everybody has haters and detractors and

obviously critics trying to spin false narratives that i voted for hillary clinton or that i voted for joe biden. none of that happened. that's just a false narrative. fake news. >> steve: let me ask you about a real news story in the miami herald, and that is past couple of weeks, you faced questions about outside employment. the miami herald reported that you were paid $10,000 a month as a consultant for a developer. i think it was for a development in coconut grove. the fbi is now investigating. can you explain for the folks what you were doing and why it was okay. >> yeah. you said it at the beginning at the opening when you said in the last couple of weeks. you know, i have been a public official, working public official for 13 years. 31 out of 34 mayors in miami-dade county work for a living. we are tether to the private sector. in 13 years i have had no issues, no ethical issues. and all of a sudden by liberal local newspaper starts to throw

a bunch of things against the wall a couple weeks right before i make an announcement. i'm the biggest threat to the democratic party an hispanic conservative republican from a big city. i mean it's like the unicorn of all unicorns. it destroys their entire narrative. and so, you know, they are threatened. and so they're coming at me with everything they can. i have never had any issues. i have always worked and i have always been successful. and i don't want apologize for my success by the way. i have done nothing wrong in this case and of course we will cooperate until that comes out. unfortunately, we see this in every federal race, i mean, everybody, unfortunately, has to go through these kinds of things. i don't mind the scrutiny. i have absolutely no problem with it. i don't mind being criticized. that comes with the territory. what i don't like is smear campaigns is what my local newspaper is doing. >> brian: you had a lot to do with david beckham make sure a stadium built in miami. they are struggling on the field

and maybe a little bit in attendance. not anymore. they assigned this guy. not finalized but all but done. lionel messi the best player in the world is coming to miami. what are you to expect? i hear they are adding seats in your stadium. tickets are selling for up to $20,000. how is that going to impact you guys? >> you're welcome, america. [laughter] >> this is not something that just impacts miami. this impacts the entire league. i want to stress something really important. because i think one of the things that people will get as a president is a good negotiator. okay. we're paying zero dollars for the stadium. the city of miami is earning $2 billion in revenue for a privately financed stadium. i think the buffalo bills in buffalo just gave the team a $1.5 billion. the tennessee titans gave over a billion dollars. and i just saw in nevada another public pledge of funds.

we gave zero dollars. and we are earning $2 billion in revenue. and we have lionel messi who, as you said, is the most coveted player in the world. arguably one of the biggest gets. and what i think is great about it and what it says about miami is. he could have chosen to make a lot more money in sawedy. he could have chosen to make a lot more money, maybe, in barcelona. but he picked miami because we have the best quality of life. that's what we need to do as far as being this incredible great country that we are. we want people to pick our country over every country in the world because it provides the best opportunity for success. that's what a suarez presidency would do. >> brian: is this a deal where you get his endorsement and miami gets him? is this one of these things? will he endorse you for president? >> you know, all these endorsements that are going to be come out, you know, i have to be a little coy about them. >> brian: we will see. >> brian: unless he are not against you running for president. >> steve: welcome to miami.

veteran arrested last month and charged with manslaughter by alvin bragg's office. before that could proceed, a grand jury had to give their approval, which they did this week following the may 1st chokehold death of jordan neely. a homeless man with a long history of violent incidents. witnesses say he was screaming and threatening passengers aboard the f train in new york when penny stepped in to restrain him. penny is currently freed on $100,000 bail. a small victory was had in a similar case in brooklyn where 20-year-old jordan williams was released without bail yesterday. he was charged with the stabbing death of ex-con convict stabbed. >> as i said to the judge you have two choices right now. can you sit there and get assaulted and your friends or family or loved ones can get assaulted or seriously injured or can you fight back and get

zelenskyy suggesting if america waweans. if russia would occupy ukraine. russia would continue going toward baltic countries: at this moment the united states will have to choose the collapse of nato or go to war. here to react fox news senior strategic analyst, retired four star general jack keane. general, why do you think he is saying that now? we get that. >> well, he is responding to a question, certainly. and i think he may be looking at the united states election, if there is a change in administrations and possibly a change in support. i don't know. he didn't tell us what the motivation is. but he is talking facts here. i think it's something, you know, as you indicated we all recognize that if putin wins in ukraine, you know, he will refit, rearm, and certainly he is going to pressure nato countries in the european

call president xi out publicly for what he did? he is still saying it was a weather balloon, that's a boldfaced lie. we should have stood our ground and waited for him to dial 1600 pennsylvania avenue and ask for a meeting as opposed to us courting him. given his behavior. his aggression abroad as you have pointed out has increased. his repression in his own society even -- he has rated three american consulting firms inside of china and regulating other private sector companies. so much so that a lot of our american companies are trying to find different supply chains, modify the risk, and the hedge of operating inside of china. yes, talking is a good thing to do to prevent misinterpretation and miscalculation. this thing appears like we are courting them as i said before. >> brian: it's hard to see. they should be apologizing to us. instead we are going to look to deliver something to them sadly. general jack keane, always great.
