tornado tore through a small town a touchdown just before midnight tearing through homes and downing trees and power lines authorities have open the jasper county community center for anyone who has been displaced by the storms. >> heartbreaking news out of mississippi in the southeast we have a potential for severe storms today. a tornado watch in effect for some of these areas and there's the watch until 8 am local time they will expand that for parts of mississippi and alabama and the heat another big story across texas and louisiana this is bringing the severe storms heavy rainfall could cause flash flooding and the temperatures well over 100 degrees and is just going to feel oppressive and dangerous for another week and probably getting a name in the next couple of hours this will be off the coast of africa and we have a disturbance behind that.

juneteenth not july 4 and ben watson former nfl football player joins us. what do you make of this? should black americans be choosing between these holidays? >> i have never seen a choice. i have celebrated juneteenth with my family for most of my life and this conversation reminds me of frederick douglass and that speech that is so famous and in that same speech he goes on to talk about the greatness of america this is a false choice of the holidays are not pitted against each other. we can celebrate both and not i would think honestly this is an opportunity for all americans to get on board and celebrate something that's really important in our country freedom and emancipation of our country. >> and a way of living up to our values and living up to our promise that somebody did in 4 july. living up to that independence and constitution and this is what this is about our ever

evolving process of living up to ourselves. >> it is but to be honest as well. we have to talk about these tough topics but that's what makes america great. that's what makes our opportunity to educate import when it comes to children because we have to see the holistic part of america to appreciate the greatness and also the sins of americans. >> everyone wants to tell the entire story. it's sins and virtues. you have a new book out it's called the new fight for life. a pro-life commitment to justice it's on sale tomorrow. i hope this book can get beyond politics. how do you do that? >> this is an important time in our country we are a year past row so as many pro-lifers are happy we are happy and overjoyed about robe being overturned but at the same time 76 percent of abortion determine women would prefer a

parent if their circumstances were different and those circumstances come down to wages, housing, relationships with fathers. it's important in the pro-life movement understand this is an opportunity to do more. we have a tremendous opportunity to step into these issues and address these issues and quite honestly to talk about these issues in a way that brings people in instead of dividing ascending people away. the new fight for life is where we are now. i hope to cast a vision. this is honestly a love letter to the pro-life movement. two white americans of black americans of those impacted by this issue saying we must pursue justice for women and pre-born children.

>> i love that message. i know you mentioned you what to get beyond politics. i ask you this with genuine curiosity. how do you do that but it seems the opponent in the debate, the other side of this has transitioned into the conversation away from simply talking about choice and almost into a celebration of abortion. i don't think that's everyone who considers himself pro-choice but a lot of the movement has become a celebration of the exact thing that you are trying to diminish and reduce and that is, the extinguishing of life. >> i had a good friend that said you never listen to the loudest activist on either side because there's a large swath of people in the middle who truly care about the issue. the loudest voices would say one thing on either side but when i say get past politics i would say this. many people care about human flourishing and human dignity. people care about people having opportunities so if we can get past that debate to the loudest voices to the people i want to talk to people who say they love life and want to protect life but also serve women i think that's who we should be targeting and those groups of
