right, bill. then i have chicken fried by the zach brown band. that's always good. >> bill: i went with zach bryan, something in the orange. check it out. a great summer song. >> dana: that's your pick? >> bill: i'm down for summer wind and frank sinatra. bring the heat, guys, i can take it. here is harris in "the faulkner focus." bye-bye. >> harris: we begin with fox news alert and desperate search for the tiny submersible carrying tourists and the sub company ceo that left sunday to see the titanic site far beneath the surface of the water 2 1/2 miles in the north atlantic. five people on board. it's the fifth day. underwater noises have crews holding out hope and sending
8:01 am
every resource possible now. i'm hair use faulkner and you are in "the faulkner focus." the multi-country operation has sent remotely operated vehicles to the ocean floor. their efforts are focused on underwater noise and the navy is looking at it. the u.s. coast guard's most recent update says it is a search and rescue mission. >> daily basis and sometimes we don't find what we are looking for. you have to -- you have to carefully consider all of the factors and there are a lot of factors to consider. after you consider all those factors sometimes you are in a position where you have to make a tough decision. we aren't there yet. but if we continue to search potentially we could be at that point. but again we aren't there yet. >> harris: the growing search spans more than 10,000 square
8:02 am
miles and 2.5 miles below the ocean's surface. some former passengers of that very sub, the titan, are sharing their experiences. >> when we went, we spent days doing safety training. everything from understanding the design of the sub and how to drop weights to if a fire was to break out or, you know, what will you do in an emergency? safety was number one for these guys. even with safety when you are pushing the limits and going to places that humans aren't designed to go, you are inventing and discovering stuff and you don't know what's going to happen. >> harris: mike tobin is at st. john's harbor in newfoundland, canada, where the tour left from. mike. >> we have now entered the period ever time in which frankly it will take a miracle to find survivors on board that missing submersible. as you mentioned there, the projected time for oxygen to run out on that submersible was this
8:03 am
morning. still you have friends and co-founders of ocean gate who say the period for rescue is longer than people think. really referencing the spirit of the people on board. the u.s. coast guard is not moving near the idea of abandoning rescue efforts. there are ships to the south of here searching. a french ship launched an rov this morning and another rov has reached the ocean floor near the titanic and began searching in depths greater than 12,000 feet. encouraging the search as recently as yesterday noises described as banging were detected in 30 minute intervals indicating they weren't made by something natural. discouraging despite the tech noll gill the location can't be pinpointed and searchers can't say it was something manmade that made those sounds. the search area is roughly twice the size of connecticut. still people with a company that launched the submersible are holding out hope.
8:04 am
>> the equipment that's been mobilized for this is the finest in the world. the most capable in the world. we have to hold out hope. i have think as you are aware, there is still life support available on this submersible and we'll continue to hold out hope until the very end. >> the flyaway deep ocean salvage system is here, a big crane that needs to be mounted on a ship. like all the rescue vessels that could be launched from st. john they need to find the sub before they can go and pick it up. time and oxygen are slipping away. >> harris: thank you very much for getting us started on this. cbs news sunday morning recently got a look inside ocean gate's titan sub. here it is. >> we only have one button. that's it. it should be like an elevator. it shouldn't take a lot of skill. >> i couldn't help noticing how pieces of the sub seem
8:05 am
improviseed. >> we got these through camper world and we run the whole thing through the game controller. >> it seems like it has elements of macgyver -- >> i don't know if i would use that description. the pressure vessel is not macgyver. everything else can fail. you will still be safe. >> harris: i tell you, just watching that now is unreal. a retired navy specialist officer. i don't know if you could hear it or see it. just give me your reaction to what we just learned. >> i did see it and good morning, harris, thank you for having me on. the reaction to that is even though there was a moment of levity, there has to be systems, safety systems, emergency
8:06 am
procedures, and other things. he mentioned that the hull of the pressure vessel itself was strong and suitable for the mission. there are many systems, the life support system, communication system, there is the navigation and propulsion system, and an hour and 47 minutes into this mission there was what i think and said from the beginning was a catastrophic failure. communications don't work, propulsion and navigation appears not to work. emergency assent appears not to have happened. the emergency signaling beacon is not transmitting a signal. i think clearly there has been a catastrophic failure right at the outset. >> harris: there was an interview not too long ago the ceo had done of this company, mr. rush, and he said that while he had confidence in everything,
8:07 am
the only thing he concerned himself with was what you just mentioned, and that is surfacing. what did he mean by that? >> well, the -- in most systems, there will be an subsystems there is an emergency surfacing procedure or process, and if the vessel is not -- doesn't receive an input from a human being in a certain amount of time, then perhaps an emergency ballast drop would occur or the vessel would surface on its own sensing there is trouble from a human being. >> harris: that's a lot of detail we can use today. we're all praying. you have the expertise to know what happens next and we appreciate you spending time here. in "focus" now, tom zallor. he went to see the titanic wreck
8:08 am
in a different vessel and called it one of the most powerful experiences of his life. tom, you are the president and ceo of imagine expeditions and the producer of titanic, the expedition, which opens in los angeles next week. good to see you today. i want to get your perspective of being down there and all that darkness and having something go wrong. >> thank you for having me. fortunately for me nothing went wrong so i can't speak to that. i can certainly tell you that i am still hopeful that there is enough life support and there is a recovery that's able to happen to the five people on board the titan. i will tell you this, i know p.h. personally and i spoke to stockton a few weeks ago talking about using some of his footage in the exhibition they have.
8:09 am
they are very capable guys and if there is a way we'll find it. we're at the end of a long four days of hope. the right people are all there. >> harris: while i ask, i will ask my team to put up the pictures that we have of the five people on board. and i want to ask you about the assets that have been sent and the timing of those assets as you understand it. >> well, i'm no expert. you have many more experts you can go to talk to about what the right things are. all the best maritime specialists private and government, all consolidating on this site. the big issue from my perspective that i can tell you is everything out there is not -- it is not like driving down the street to the mall and picking something up. if you are in the middle of the
8:10 am
north atlantic ocean. 400 miles from closest land. it is 12,500 feet deep water. there aren't many things that can go that deep and do work. so -- first of all, it took years and years to find the titanic, which is a massive vessel on the bottom of this ocean. you are talking about a tiny submersible. we don't even know -- i'm hearing the news as you are. we don't know if the sub is down there or if it maybe right at the surface of the ocean. nobody knows. so it is -- i can't imagine being those five guys in there. i hope -- they will know all the right things to do to conserve their life support as long as possible but every second counts when you are at that. >> harris: you mentioned stockton rush and i asked my team to put up the pictures. you talked to the ceo. you said that. how long ago and what was a little bit of that conversation
8:11 am
that communicates maybe what he is able to do, his skill set? >> well, first as i was talking to stockton, it is about including the experience of diving to this kind of depth and sharing it with the public. what i do is i share store eaves with the public, right? if the expedition we were going to bring part of the hull and have footage about it and talk about how amazing it was. he wanted to focus on not so much the historical part of the titanic story but about continuing to -- like some people think about going to space. he was an explorer and wanted to explore the ocean depths and their all the undiscovered parts of the water. people make it sound like it is a playstation controller. there are a lot of experts involved in developing this thing and it wasn't just -- you don't just go to the titanic. there are a lot of smart people
8:12 am
involved. p.h. nargeolet has been doing it for many years. he wouldn't be in that submersible unless he thought it was well equipped. anything can go wrong. >> harris: i appreciate that. i still hear optimism from you and i share that. i pray. but i also understand the limits of what you are talking about, too. and i hear that in your voice, that caution. thank you for being with me today. i appreciate it and appreciate you sharing your conversation that you had with the ceo. >> my hopes and prayers are with those five people and their families and all those amazing people out there working right now. i hope -- we need a miracle. >> harris: amen. thank you very much. appreciate it. chaos on the floor after the house censured a member for just the 25th time in history. >> on this vote the yays are 213

the spectator. always wonderful to have you in "focus." your top line thoughts. >> bill: i think yesterday's hearing was an embarrassment. democrats haven't read john durham's report and didn't address any of the serious issues it raises about the f.b.i. and the weaponization of the most powerful arms of our government. the law enforcement arms against then candidate and then president trump. and frankly, i come from an era in which democrats were always warning us about the overuse of government power especially during the bush era and the early days of the patriot act and the war on terror. there were so many democrats who were out there and were concerned government power in certain areas would be used against citizens in ways that
8:22 am
were totally inappropriate. now, when we have a huge example of this right in front of us, they don't seem to be at all interested in asking the questions that are very much on the minds of anyone who takes law enforcement seriously and these issues as the power of government when it comes to invading the actual representative power of the people to choose their president, to name that president and expect that government is not going to embark in some kind of slap together ridiculous, baseless investigation that ends up dominating the political scene for years. that's what john durham found. it is a serious problem. yet what we heard yesterday from democrats was just more demagoguery, none of them interested in asking the question is how we can prevent this from happening again. imagine the scenario where it was a republican administration investigating an incoming
8:23 am
democratic administration. are they at all concerned about that? they certainly didn't sound like it this time around. that to me also says something about the degree to which they are confident the f.b.i. and the d.o.j. are on their side. >> harris: that is so interesting. democrats would be appear leap particular on the other side of this. you mentioned baseless in terms of opening an investigation. how about dishonest? how about lies and manipulation? chaos broke out on the house floor yesterday after a vote to censure democrat representative adam schiff for all of his trump/russia claims. >> the house of representatives sen shares adam schiff, representative of the 30th congressional district of california. for misleading the american public -- [shouting] >> and for conduct unbecoming of an elected member of the house
8:24 am
of representatives. will representative schiff present himself in the well? >> harris: not a single democrat voted with republicans on that censure. congressman schiff fired right back after the vote and some of his supporters tore into the gop on the house floor. >> this is a badge of honor driven by extreme maga members of the house and donald trump threatening republicans with retaliation if they don't vote on this bogus resolution. >> today we're on the floor of the house where the other side has turned this chamber, they turned it into a puppet show, a puppet show. >> harris: the problem with schiff is he didn't just claim. he said he had the evidence to prove what he was saying and he didn't. >> it is so funny, he is being censured for lies and the clip you used there he is lying.
8:25 am
it is not being pushed by extreme maga members. donald trump isn't threatening people that they need to vote for it in any way, shape or form. that is not true. it is one more thing in the long line of deceptive practices that adam schiff has put into place. do we expect politicians aren't always going to be honest with us. we're skeptical american citizens and it's justified. no one has been more deceptive in weaponizeing the information brought forward behind the doors of the intel committee than adam schiff in ways that absolutely, i think, cut to the core of our understanding of what we can expect from members, especially members given that level of information. he promised us over and over and over again that the evidence was there. that he had seen it. that these investigations were justified. a lot of americans believed him. unfortunately he was lying and deserved the censure that he got. >> harris: with republicans in the majority of the house is one

8:27 am
exorbitant, extravagant fishing trip funded by someone who had cases before the supreme court, but that he has denied it is an issue. >> it is simply outrageous you have supreme court justices who are violating all sorts of ethical rules that every other federal judge has to comply with. >> there is no reason why the highest court in our land should have the lowest ethics in our government. >> harris: they are focused on recusal the latest angle to cripple the court's new majority by imposing tenuous associations as grounds for recusal. litigants can excuse certain justices from a hearing case. this could determine the outcome. call it court thinning rather than court packing. the effect would be similar. ist is not about ethics. this is about the left's fury at having lost control of the court. ben. >> this is a political smear campaign being funded by those who wish they had control of the court and lost it, as you said.
8:28 am
it is also something that's absolutely ridiculous when you compareist to their attitude toward certain other activities. we are supposed to believe that millions of dollars flowing through the llcs of hunter biden from china were not influential and a lifetime appointee to the supreme court can be influenced by a fishing trip? it is ridiculous. the fact is he was not dealing with anybody with business before the court. when he had business it wasn't known to him that this person was connected to it. it is a ridiculous standard. i do think there needs to be ethical standards from the court and reporting these types of things. according to the letter of the requirements at the time it was not something he needed to do. ist is a smear campaign. >> harris: that compareson between what was at stake with hunter biden and what's at stake here is really interesting. tripping -- a fishing trip versus all that biden had done, hunter biden. great analogy. ben, thank you very much.

8:36 am
something they aren't happy to see. they are seeing this turn into what we saw in 2016 where a large field of republicans refusing to get out and donald trump winning. at the same time, however, it is still very early and these candidates have a right to go out there and introduce themselves and see if there is an appetite for their message. will hurd is a very attractive candidate and talented politician and eager to see what he brings to this campaign. >> harris: i have to wonder among democrats, scott, what you are thinking because this field now is more diverse than ever. a woman, people of color in the field with miami's mayor suarez jumping in and you have categories that democrats like the look at as theirs being highly represented and also picking up votes on the right through those people already
8:37 am
holding office who have good majorities in their areas among diverse communities. >> it is about time the republican party wanted to put a field of diverse candidates out. they don't share our values as democrats. so they are all republicans. i think it's incredible you have 12 candidates. that will help donald trump if he makes it through his indictment period. that's another problem. but we want donald trump to be the republican candidate. we can beat him again. the more people get in the more likely trump will win. god bless them. >> harris: i start evidence out where i did because joe biden is losing from 90 to 58% in recent polling of support among black americans. so when you look at that field broadening you also look at all sorts of people getting in with their backgrounds and their voter support. it does make it complicated when you have somebody who hasn't been out until recent. democrats in a twist now.

8:39 am
idea. it would help donald trump. scott, your thoughts. >> the real issue with the senator talking him out ofist is because the dems don't want to lose the west virginia seat is the first thing. governor justice will run against him and he would be running from governor justice if he did that but planning his retirement party because no third candidate will win. he certainly is not going to win. he is not pulling democrats. he is not very popular with the democratic base. he blocked lots of legislation in regard to the last term like the george floyd bill and voting rights act and wouldn't a filibuster. i don't think he is going anywhere. dems shouldn't be wore eft about him but whether he is running for senator, not president. >> harris: i love you call it a filibuster. you know >> harris: i was playing.
8:40 am
jason, manchin says we have to get to the sensible, reasonable middle. what about republicans getting to the better next choice? does he help republicans in any way by getting in? >> well, the issue here is not whether joe manchin can win. i don't think people are concerned about that. the concern is how much support he will peel off from joe biden. and frankly it is not a uniquely democratic concern. this is something that republicans may find themselves dealing with next year because if donald trump does not win nomination and runs as a third party candidate republicans will be concerned. both parties are dealing with. we have had third party candidates before but rarely have the republicans and democrats been so unappetizing to the american people. rarely has it happened at a time when the country was as deeply divided and evenly divided as it

a previous guest has always suspected it was something quick and catastrophic or did it make it to the surface? we had so many questions before and now we have more. but hopefully with some answers coming. so one tweet we read you, the other tweet is information for the next press briefing can be found@. it will be at 3:00 p.m. eastern today. so one tweet telling us that a debris field has been discovered within the search area by an rov near the titanic. the next 3:00 p.m. eastern news conference. look at the map and the area they've been searching and how much water they have covered. all of the assets that they've deployed in just the last really 16 hours in all of this. and we knew there was some sort of timeline. we didn't talk about it much. not today, because we had experts telling us the timeline might have been extended because
8:55 am
the people in the craft had such experience, including the company's ceo on how to survive, on how to extend that timeline. so we're hopeful now that that has happened but this is a debris field that has been found. we haven't heard of anything else other than that and they are not releasing any information on whether or not this is actually even the titan. but it is a tight squeeze around where they've been looking. it is an area where they had been looking to see were those the underwater noises that were coming from yesterday. molly line has been on the story from the beginning and she joins us now live. what are you hearing? any details about what they may have found, molly? >> harris, i think you probably broke the biggest news we've received from the u.s. coast guard.the debris field was disc in the search area where they were actually looking by an rov near the titanic. the titanic is where the titan sub was trying to go when they
8:56 am
descended sunday morning. experts within the unified command have drawn together experts from around the globe specialized in deep sea recovery are evaluating the information at this time. that is the big and most significant news. we expect a briefing later on this afternoon at 3:00 here at the u.s. coast guard base in boston to give us more details. at this point in time they haven't elaborated on what precisely the debris field entails. what they are seeing from this they have some eeing from this information, we don't know if they're getting photos or if something has been touched or grabbed, we have no details yet about how successful the rov, remote operated vehicle deep under the water near the site of the titanic, what it is precisely they're seeing, what knowledge they have about said debris field. of course, we'll be asking questions about that this afternoon. the coast guard has consistently throughout the course of the
8:57 am
operation talked about hope and that has not changed. we'll see if given the new information the tone changes this afternoon or it gives us some idea of where the search goes from here. there's been a lot of questions when the operation would go from a search and rescue to recovery, but they pushed back on anything along those lines saying that determination will be made when they have more information and more insight. we'll see what happens this afternoon, harris, when we have the chance to ask a lot of questions. >> absolutely. we had experts this hour, one of them had said because, and he had recently talked with the ceo of the company that owns the submersible. what he said is a couple of things. one, he had full faith that the hull would be able to hold. there were a lot of as you know investigations, not investigations but a whistle-blower complaint to osha about the hull
8:58 am
testing that the company had been doing. he spoke separate from that and said in his conversation with stockton rush, the ceo, there was confidence there. and the other thing he said was all of the experience on board with those who are really thrill seekers, all of the different places they've been, one of them was a billionaire who had been in jeff bezos' space flight and all of that, and just saying that they know how to survive and to extend a survival window by using less oxygen, by compressing their energy, doing things to give them the best chance to survive while people look for them. now we are still within a window then from what my guest was saying where they would be able to survive. and he was very hopeful and optimistic about that. i wonder what you've been hearing. >> yeah. so the coast guard as well seemed to be offering a bit of a grace period beyond 96 hours that the
8:59 am
company published that the sub could sustain life for five people, in that they said they wouldn't be immediately switching to recovery operation upon the 36 hours being up. if a debris field is discovered, one of the things many of the experts have been talking about as far as the submersible is concerned is the possibility of an implosion. we don't know that's the case, we don't know what the debris field is, but of course if there was implosion early on then the 96 hours of potential life support would be irrelevant, but we don't know that. that will be among the questions we ask if the debris field is the titan. we'll try to get to the bottom of that as they're on the bottom of the ocean, trying to gather information about what potentially the rov is seeing or gathering. we don't know exactly precisely what information has come up from this underwater robot. >> i want to concentrate a second, we have their pictures up. as we wrap up coverage here and go on to

"outnumbered," the human element in all of this. and the five souls that are aboard the submersible titan that went down on sunday to go see a fantastic site, the titanic remnants. the search has been mighty, we are in day five. now the discovery of debris. a news conference coming up at 3:00 p.m. eastern. we are all over the developments and we are still holding out hope. "outnumbered" now. >> fox news alert this hour. the u.s. coast guard says a debris field has been found by a remotely operated vehicle in the search area near the wreck of the titanic. the coast guard will be holding a press conference at 3:00 p.m. with more details. all of this comes as the oxygen supply for the sub's five man drew has likely run dry and rescue operations are now entering a critical phase. mike tobin with more.
