titan submersible was operateing when communications were lost. while not definitive this information was immediately shared with the incident commander to assist with the ongoing search and rescue mission. but for three days, the world waited for any sign of the vessel and its five crew members. then yesterday, the day oxygen would run out, searchers found a debris field. >> the debris is consistent with a catastrophic implosion of the vessel. upon this determination, we immediately notified the families. >> titanic director james cameron said he even knew it was no longer a rescue operation by monday. >> the only scenario that i could come up with in my mind that could account for that was an implosion. then i watched, over the ensuing days, this whole sort of everybody running around with their hair on fire search, knowing full well that it was futile. i encouraged everybody to raise

edwin peters was hired under former president trump and spent two years on the job but was suddenly let go despite having satisfactory reviews. judge peters joins us now. good morning to you sir. >> good morning ma'am. >> carley: so what happened? >> well, i just got, after my two years, my two-year notice, i got coming to the office, i met with the divisional chief assistant chief, was handed a letter and the letter indicated that i wasn't going to be converted from a temporary to a permanent position based on my performance and conduct. upon reading this letter i questioned them i was like, the word that stuck out was performance because i've been there two years, two of me evaluation, easterly evaluation, yeahers evaluations were satisfactory, it's either satisfactory or unsatisfactory and my conduct and i questioned them, i was like wait a minute there was never no problem, no one mentioned a problem with my work, according to my previous evaluation, i had good

temperament, good court presence. >> carley: totally caught you off-guard. so why do you think you were fired? >> i have no doubt it was based on my -- president trump, i was a president trump appointee back in 2021. that was the last class that actually president trump's administration appointed as an immigration judge. >> carley: tell us about the investigation into your twitter account. >> actually, in december i received a phone -- an e-mail from my supervisor indicating that it was an outside complaint about some tweets that i that i tweeted and retweeted which appeared i could not be fair as an immigration judge. >> carley: they were political tweets. >> political tweets and i could not be fair to illegal immigrants that appeared before me. so i was called in, i was questioned and that's it. my twitter account by then, december, my twitter account was already suspended for my conservative views, and i owned

up to them and they said, yeah, they were my tweets but i said, however, look at my record. my record. my supervisor looked at my report and she even reported to headquarters, judge even though -- she report ready to head coaches, although hi political views but it doesn't affect my decision on the bench. carley: right you had a 50/50 approval rejection rate. >> actually i did yeah. >> carley: so you're saying your twitter account was suspended for your political rules and you were fired for ideological. that's' double whammy. >> yeah. >> carley: you're an immigration judge and every time we hear of immigration judges we hear there is a lack of them. is that true? >> that is true, but then this administration, what they're doing, last year, president trump 2020 immigration a.tease, they let ten go. this administration let ten go.

down completely to prepare for potential landslides. senior meteorologist janice dean is here with our fox weather forecast. a lot going on. >> holy moly. >> foxweather.com by way has all the details but let's start with the severe weather. another day of tornados causing damage and destruction, this time across portions of the rockies. some of the same places are going to get hit again today, really from the big bend of texas all the way to billings montana so the potential for hail, damaging winds, tornados, heavy rainfall that could cause flash flooding and we'll see another day of that tomorrow. tropics, incredible. we've got bret and cindy now and we broke a record for the atlantic basen two tropical storms east of the antilles for june. this is typically where we see activity in august and september but we're having it now. we watch this system, tropical storm bret expected to weaken by the weekend but we're still

dealing with heavy rain and gusty winds for the beautiful islands here so we have a tropical storm warning for the next 24-48 hours, and there is cindy, now a named system, expected to move north and west and, you know, the east coast is going to have to watch this for possible indirect impacts, like rip currents, maybe, you know, some rough seas. we will need to monitor it. then we have the heat, which has hung on for weeks across texas. there's no real relief in sight the next seven days and look at the potential highs for laredo del rio san angelo talking 110 degrees and then we have the humidity on top of that which is making it oppressive and dangerous to be outside. looking for the next seven days, really no relief. we are stuck in this weather pattern. i didn't even mention the fact that we've got rain along the i-95 corridor, a wet week ahead for the northeast and there's no

little mixed at times but especially here. so what did you make of this, of him really doubling down on what he said about xi jinping at a time when tensions are very strong between us and china? >> yeah, ashley, first of all, thanks for having me. look, words matter and you almost want to advise the president, watch what you say about other foreign leaders. when i was in the white house with the trump administration, president trump was very clear about it. words do matter, watch what you say about your opponents, adversaries because it will come back and bite you later on. he's done that repeatedly. that does not build with good relationships. he's done that with russian with putin and he's done than with saudi arabia. it's a huge mistake to do that. the relations right now with us and china are not very good especially with what you said earlier about them building potential will i a military base

in cuba. we should look back at president monroe said in the monroe doctrine about staying out of our hemisphere. these are the indications president uses his words makes a mistake and tries to back step and say i didn't really mean that. it does mean something to the adversary leaders out there. you don't see the chinese saying that, the saudis saying that, you don't see the russians saying that as well. so he has to be cautious about what he said. >> ashley: he said what he said in that closed-door meeting but then he was pressed on it by reporters. do you think he should have taken that chance to double down like he did and brush it off like it's no big deal or do you think he should have changed his tune? >> well, first of all, he shouldn't have said it ashley. the proper be with president biden he makes comments like that then tries to walk it back but his actions don't match his words. what he ought to do his actions matter, have the actions go forward with the chinese and make strong statements either

economically or militarily or diplomatically. look what the chinese have done recently they snubbed secretary of defense austin by their secretary of defense lee when they didn't even meet and talk when they were in signify important at the shangri-la conference then fast forward to secretary blinken going to china and as he lands his aircraft in beijing he's met by the guy who runs america's dmeft beijing, that's about number ten on the function area list. you look at all the actions taking place and we ought to respond but we don't because we really don't have a plan for china. >> ashley: staying on the topics of adversaries let's talk about what's going on in russian right now. russia court denied appeal for journalist evan gershkovich. listen to this. >> such hostage diplomacy is unacceptable and we call on the russian federation to release him, as well as paul whelan another u.s. citizen wrongfully detained. >> ashley: we still don't have

any clear evidence of what russia's accusing him for, these espionage charges, so what do you think's going to happen to evan over there in this russian jail and is this a case of hostage diplomacy? >> yeah, the latter's true. it's hostage diplomacy. he happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and when you look at what they do, they leverage that, this he did with brittney griner, this did he the same thing with evan, they pull them in, they charge him with espionage. he's a reporter for the wall street journal. they'll use him for leverage later on it. this he do it all the time and it's unfortunate he's put in that position, but he'll be there a while, he's now a pawn between russia and the united states and everything we say will not help out. we're going to have to come to some conclusion later on to try to get him out but he's going to be spending a long time in that prison in moscow. >> ashley: makes it real and puts it in perspective when you saw he's being used as a pawn and will be there for a while.

people in this case the other graduates and attendees should be able to decide if they agree with statements or not. clearly not everybody agreed with those statements and i'm glad that's true because they were incredibly inflammatory but this also goes to show that this was approved. so what does that say about the institution? what does that say about all of our academic institutions? it's not like she just went rogue here. she said this was approved. so that to me is the most concerning part. you're allowed to say whatever you want to say but you would think there would be somebody within that administration that would have said, hey, the things that you're saying here, not necessarily the most, you know, exciting, let's graduate, congratulations, everybody. in fact, much more militant, dark and really just inappropriate. >> carley: yeah, earlier this week we were talking about a college professor who was saying, looking at the american flag gave him anxiety and you have to wonder why so many young people leave college a lot less patriotic than when they entered when they were freshman. tomi got to leave it there. thank you for joining us. >> thank you guys.
