back to the couch, paul, again, with your investigative experience, the military sort of responded in that, this information is part of an overall constellation of evidence that was not definitive. they submitted it to the u.s. coast guard for their use in narrowing down, triangulating their rescue efforts. we might learn more about that, but that was their defense which i appreciate. the air on the other side would have been to pinpoint something and perhaps risk being wrong, where there were souls to be saved elsewhere. >> obviously the primary thing is preservation of life. everybody recognizes this is a terrible tragedy. we all put ourselves in that, think my god, what would it have been like. that's just human nature. the point i would like to make is just if you're going to engage in this sort of risky behavior, risk by choice, i think there should be some assurity in place before you do it, right, put up money.
9:19 am
you spend a quarter million to go on this submersible, you should put up a commensurate amount, maybe through insurance or something else, so when we have to launch this kind of rescue effort, you have all these guys on all the time, you have to pay for fuel, helicopters, ships, et cetera, this is very expensive. the american taxpayer has to eat it, right? again, it is a tragedy. the preservation of life is the most important thing. everybody recognizes that. you worry about the money later. but i can tell you, i was working the day the plane went down in the hudson, the sully story, i wasn't out, the harbor guys went out, but that was a big all points effort, it costs a lot of money. you have to do it, but afterwards you say that was an accident. this was risk by choice. you kind of have to say wouldn't it be better if we had a plan, then we could have focused efforts better for everybody's sake. >> and it is interesting, i have spoken with a lot of high end security companies tasked with protecting incredibly high worth individuals whose

9:22 am
turned out to be 1600 feet from the bow of the titanic. my big question isn't why they didn't tell the public, i would hope not because those would be top secret military mission information, i mean, we wouldn't need to know that. but what did they share with families, because to hope for those further days, if they knew they were likely looking at an implosion, if it was even a 10% possibility not to share that with the families begs the question what were we protecting, and wree don't know the answers to everything. and i don't want to spill military secrets, but by tuesday, by the time we started reporting underwater noises, first it was banging, then during my hour, they said no, the government said don't call it banging. we were already getting, that was coming from them, saying don't call it that, call it underwater noises. if they knew, of course not. if it had been an
