it'll have for itself later. clearly with ukraine's counter offensive in its third week, faltering somewhat, we'd like to see nothing more than chaos in the ranks of russian military and experts say kyiv might try to take action, might try to take advantage of the trouble in russia. guys, there's an old phrase in the military and elsewhere, it is be careful what you wish for. it's too early for analysts to guess exactly how this will turn out and the white house and other world capitols say they're watching. what would happen though probably won't be pretty and could have a big impact and not just on the war here and not just the region but the world. back to you guys. will: greg, on the boat of russian chaos and any defection of russian military to prigozhin and the wagner group? >> prigozhin is claiming some have come over, but he's talking about small numbers. the latest quote was just 60 or 70.
5:04 am
however, what i think is key, folks, in what we're seeing in the southeastern city is that there was barely no fight. we saw a couple scuffles and saw some issues but just about everybody let him go through the borders and let him go through the foreign indications and let him take over that military headquarters. what is important though is to see what happens next. he can't just sit there and can't go on like this and russia has to do something and some of the forces again are moving up the highway to moscow and now about six hours outside of it and they're experiencing resistance. they're clearly, if they cited a role into moscow, it would be a different game, entirely, guys. we're watching the next hours and next couple of days and it'll tell what's going to happen. pete: amazing. real quick, inside ukraine, there's been a long touted offensive by ukrainian forces. does this -- you eluded to it but does if 25,000 troops on the front lines headed towards moscow, does that present a

opportunity? >> absolutely a opportunity. i mean, 25,000 were involved for example in the city of bakhmut for many months. they were being sort of cycled out u but the most important thing is to remember the city rostov-on-don, has this military headquarters for the russians and it is where all of the operations in ukraine are taking place. so if there's a little bit of distraction inside that headquarters, kyiv thinks it can take advantage and counter offensive has been faltering as i noted to some extent. i'm sure the officials here in the buildings a few blocks away are planning their next move and not going to sit by and watch this opportunity go untaken advantage of. back to you. pete: thank you, greg. rachel: greg palkot. thank you very much. we spoke with rebekah earlier

and she said there's two possibilities. one, we're funneling prigozhin because he's a mercenary and maybe we have something to do with the so-called up rising and the other thing is he's looking to replace putin. here's what she told us earlier. >> there's a real threat of armed insurrection and possesses 6,000 weapons and a lot pointing to the u.s. homeland and any kind of instability is not good for anyone. what prigozhin is aiming potentially is to replace putin in 2024. russia will have presidential elections on march 17th of next year. prigozhin is actually aiming to replace this guy, to replace the current leader and that's why he's stirring up populous movement in russia so again, it's not -- in russia not everything is what you see; right? it's the wilderness of merits
5:07 am
and remains to be seen how the situation is unfolding. will: she offered three alternatives to what could be going on in russia. one, prigozhin is looking to replace putin, two, the united states or nato is playing a role in this potential coup in russia. or three, that it's a false flag by putin that he is using this fake rebellion to further consolidate power and rally russia to his cause. rachel: she also said -- we asked her directly what would she do if advising president biden on this war? would she advise him to continue funding it, which we've been doing to the tune of, i think, $170 billion so far, or would she advise him to try and negotiate a peace settlement between the two countries? she said 100% she'd go for negotiations for peace settlement. pete: bring in somebody who if he wins the job he wants would have to make that type of decision. vivek ramaswamy, republican 2024

presidential candidate. vivek, great to have you on the program. how would you handle this with the developments? >> good to see you. this is one more piece of evidence that russia is likely a paper tiger. the idea that russia has the capabilities that go for poland or other parts of western europe looks increasingly farcical. we need to keep our eye on the prize for the united states and that's deterring chinese aggression and that's the top threat that we face from a foreign policy perspective. what i've said is i would end the russia ukraine war on terms that pulled vladamir putin away from xi jinping and one thing that russia has that's ahead of china and the u.s. is the largest nuclear stockpile in the world, and also hypersonic missile capabilities ahead of both the u.s. and china. that's a valuable asset for xi jinping to have in his back pocket. we can end this war in ukraine

i'm ready to play ball but i require the other candidates to play ball as well. pete: stay on the debate aspect for a moment, vivek, because donald trump said i don't want to participate. how do you react to that if the overwhelming front runner is not on that stage? >> that's his choice for the early debate. my point is gimenez going to do this year what donald trump did in 20156789 he was the outsider there -- 2015. he was the outsider then and i see myself more similar to donald trump in 2015 than trump today maybe in 20156789 i think. i think -- 2015. you get to be the outsider once and i'm the outsider in this race and competition breeds strength and i embrace the competition in the race and it makes our movement and our country stronger. i will not be holding back on that debate stage and i'll require the other candidates to level up is and traumatic about the issues rather than superficial talking points that
