triggered this attempted armed uprising as symbols of russian power. only to be defused at the last minute and feel that softball get off the hook but prigozhin coming up empty with his demand for change in the russian military leadership. and yes, to be sent to exile in belarus. it was reported that u.s. intelligence was aware something like this is going to happen. especially keeping a close i of things with russia's existing nuclear stockpile. but, they wanted to keep in arms length so moscow would not accuse washington of meddling in its affairs. officials here in kyiv watching things very closely. a huge stake in what is happening inside russia. president zalewski said a sign of the chaos in that country launch a fresh inroads into the russian front line and not far from here a possible attempt to take advantage of the confusion. yes, the big loser by many accounts russian president pu putin. hired fighters running rampant

stage. and interestingly enough i find it so interesting that alexander lukashenko stepped up and said let me exercise my power and try to find a way to end this between wagner and the russian military. thereby putin and prigozhin. anyway, he is providing that place for exile. that, to me was very interesting that you have a new entrant into this fight. eric: the belarus refuse supposedly that he has. >> for prigozhin. eric: he has been on telegram on the russian people are on telegram, they know the attacks. the ukrainian war was a racket it was meant to enrich the elites. putin is benefiting from it.

is that legal invasion that should never have happened in the first place. does this resonate with the russian people? at what point could that be a tipping point so we see them getting out of there? >> again, what we have heard is that prigozhin felt like he was not getting enough or his troops at this point in time. to execute what he wanted to carry out. and thereby with the russian people not being in favor of these actions in ukraine, it does make putin look as if he is losing that grip. that his military is not prepared. they are not properly equipped to the point you have wagner pulling out. it's interesting to see if you do have the chechen fighters that show up to fill that void. and what is going to happen with the wagner fighters.

>> oh no, far from it. we do not have the final outcome is going to be but certainly this story is not over yet. everyone was surprised the united states intelligence service had a few days warning prigozhin was up to something. nonetheless a surprise worldwide on an armed rebellion insight of russia. equally surprising as everyone was getting ready for armed conflict somewhere around moscow for sure is what it looks like. in likely thousands of casualties and innocent civilians we get caught up in this to be sure. it comes to an end rather abruptly as the result of a compromised. interestingly enough putin was willing to make by someone who has committed treason and betrayed his country. and his troops knocked down several helicopters and a fixed wing aircraft to kill about a

dozen troops. give the troops who did that amnesty. quite a stunning outcome as a result of all of this. looks i will get back to that point in a moment. at first why would putin now be meeting with china, north korea, and ironic in the aftermath? >> putin knows full well what has taken place here has weakened his hand shone inside his own country and in the international community. in particular with china. everyone sees what has happened here. i think it is going to give emphasis to serious issues that have been here all along. in which prigozhin has illuminated himself in his public rantings. first of all the ill-fated decision to go into ukraine in the first place with no public pressure to do something like that. and to deal with the pulse justification. secondly the failure and discretion of the russian

military little take years the lack of competency displayed on the battlefield is something he was wailing about. you know full well the people in russia as a result of the economy that is in decline are suffering. russia is more isolated internationally as a result of this. finally we have putin himself here. supposedly a strong man cuts a deal with a leader who betrayed his country and conducted an armed insurrection and was closing in on moscow. cuts a deal with him and gives him freedom in a foreign country in exile and amnesty to his trips. that in itself people are going to look at it and see for the strong command putin claims to be this is weakness. putin is very quickly trying to shore up some of the loose ends he has. that's why we don't know the

consequences of this historic incident is. but we know it's going to have serious ramifications inside russia and likely internationally as well. arthel: if president putin's reign his military, his reputation all vulnerable and we can at this point how does putin react to a position of perceived weakness? >> of pollutant recognizes is a much of his longevity is tied to what happens inside ukraine. if he is able to hold onto most of the territory he has a maybe traded some of that territory as a result of the counteroffensive nothing significant in that. he knows full well they can go to a cease-fire, rearmament re- equip his military over time he did in 2014. and hang onto power. if he loses in ukraine as a special to the counteroffensive they're able to take significant territory cut off with the land

bridge and pommel crimea but that at risk for it not for ground attack with fires and drones et cetera. that really weakens putin once again. that puts it somewhat at risk. i think he knows full well his future is dependent on what happens in ukraine. i do not see him admitting he made a terrible mistake here and pull it all the troops out. insiders and elites that will come to that conclusion but they're not going to say that public labor to think putin is going to stay and a fight because he realizes his survival and his regime survival is tied to it. arthel: general jack keane thank you for joining us for. >> great talking to you arthel.

people are seeing. it is in their streets. that is a powerful message against her putin. i think the united states nato officials, everyone is involved with trying to happens in ukraine. especially defeating russia should play on this. this is not something people want. this should not be taking place and it is falling apart. why he is meeting with china, north korea, et cetera, i think he's going to try and build up their confidence he's got things under control. it certainly does not look like he doesn't. this is a real offense to his offensive. eric: do you think putin is in a panic? is he concerned about his future? especially when we see people on the streets. this he was being played out.

>> absolutely should be worried about it and he should be worried about it from the start. deep down in the hearts and minds of the russian people they do not want this. they are pulling people out of prison to go and fight. this is not like world war ii where we take on this enemy people are stepping up to volunteer in defense of freedom for example for the united states. this is nothing like that. these are hired mercenaries. they do not have the same morale and motives of atypical national war. they really are not part of that per se. they may wear a uniform, they may be russians, but that is not the game they are in. they do not have what they need than they are going to complain. that is what we are seeing here and that is a real problem for putin. and frankly hope it is. >> what is your prediction finally but what could potentially happen to putin in the next few weeks or months? could this be potentially the beginning of the end for this blood thirsty did not make enemy
