was it enough? >> that is the tale, it is still early. one thing president trump is doing well, maintaining his base. the other candidates are trying to locate their base and figure out where their lane is. others are pulling from trump's base. president trump is maintaining his base. red meat, things that feed his base, like election integrity, protect children and when it comes to the way he talks about biden policy, things are leaning into his base. in order to get to the general, come out of a primary. something i think is interesting is first debate. that is when we start to see

polls play around whether or not people are buying into the message, the current message and if they want something else. we are not primary republican or democratic country. but over 50% in 70 percentile feel the country is heading in the right direction. there is room to adjust. the other candidates are trying to find their lane. >> carley: talking about former president trump, does he need to adjust? his base grew even stronger, seems like any time something happens, he picks up steam. what should his opponents be doing? >> yeah, so answer to the first

question, i think there is room to adjust. we will play in the independent space. what they need to do is focus on the portion of the country not bought into the trump message. that is where they need to stay. difficulty is, there are so many other candidates fighting for this po portion. if they focus on the economy, economicings is that sweet spot when this comes to most people. social issues when economics is the issue we should focus on right now, i think the other candidates may be missing that. for president trump, i believe he's doing what he's supposed to be doing. i think he will pivot a bit, particularly when we see who the

democratic nominee is. i am not convinced, it is going to be president biden. r.f.k. is growing in the polls. >> ashley: voters are concerned about age and mental state. r.f.k. is definitely one to watch for democratic side. what about people who don't agree the way biden has handled things and things he's done in the last couple years. the well donald trump has on the gop side, you have never tru trumpers, is it enough to go against biden on the democratic side? >> you know what, i think we will see people go against biden. a lot of people feel we want to show strength and show that we are here size america.

senator ted cruz is talking about it. house speaker kevin mccarthy has responded by saying let's slow this whole thing down and send to committees to investigate these claims. where is all of this going? >> the train is on the tracks for that. that inquiry going to jewish area. going to homeland security as well. on what the house will ultimately do. i mean, you look at, you know, from top to bottom, most recently with this irs prib's earth shattering statements. these are predamning indictments on the department of justice, on the president biden that the president's own it turns out obviously he gets two misdemeanors and a deferred charge. this is the problem in our two tiered system of justice right now. >> right. i mean, and kindy piggy backing off what carley said as we keep

saying the house republicans said they were not there yet with an impeachment vote. what's it going to take to get to that? what are you looking at this week and in the coming weeks? >> well, i look at impeachment much like i do a trial. and that you prep for it. you get your witnesses ready obviously, u.s. attorney weiss has system answers that he needs to divulge to the house of representatives. there are a lot of things going on, the oversight whi committee will be unveil more bank records and more transactions in the coming days and weeks. all these point to the same thing which is that we really don't do much for certain types of people, depending on how are and how are associated with. that we ignore guardrails. these things are at the top. we just had special counsel durham in. one of the biggest problems that he encountered was at the top of the fbi of the doj these things

>> carley: what's that message when the president was no longer in office. does that change anything? >> well, i don't think that it really does. i think this shows a pattern of transactions with the biden family, these llcs were started while joe biden was vice president. this influence peddling has been going on a long time after he was vice president and while he was vice president. so i think these inquiries are serious. i think the committees are treating them very seriously. i think the house republican are treating them very seriously. we need to continue to do our due diligence. let the facts dictate the next step. if there is nothing there, there is nothing there. jamie raskin said all we would see are papa john's and starbucks. that has proven not to be true. they need to take it seriously. i'm glad that the mainstream media and "the washington post" wrote an article about this. for so long they have been ignoring. this they want to cover all the other things despite this
