subaru. more than a car company. good evening. welcome to america's late news. i'm trace gallagher in los angeles. breaking tonight, it appears somebody is lying in the hunter biden investigation. the irs whistle blowers or the department of justice. we'll give you the fox news at night of the polygraph. florida governor lays out his immigration plan during a visit to the southern border and it will sound very familiar. we begin with what generals and military experts call a weakened russia saying vladmir
9:01 pm
putin's power is becoming tenuous for the first time in 23 years. good evening. >> good evening to you, trace. the civil war that appeared to be on the point of breaking out in russia has become a war of words with a clearly angry russian president lashing out at those who led what he called the rebellion. >> they wanted russian soldiers to kill each other. soldiers and civilians would die and russia would lose and our society split. choke in a bloody strife. >> putin never mentioned the mercenary leader by name but the notorious head of the group was central to everything putin said. once a close friend and ally he's putin's public enemy number one. locations and intents unknown. giving no clues in an audio statement released today in which he come papered the ease
9:02 pm
of his troop's movement through russia to the failures of russia's regular army when they invaded ukraine 16 months ago. >> a master class on how february 24th, 2022 should look like. did not have the goal of over throwing the regime and the legally elected government, which we have talked about many times. he turned around as not to shed the plblood of russian soldiers. >> president biden said the u.s. played no role in the chaos and the u.s. is watching events unfold. >> we're going to keep assessing the fall out of this weekend's events and the implications from russia and ukraine. it's still early to reach a definitive conclusion about where this is going. >> while the immediate crisis in russia, the prospect of civil war has receded, it's an open question as to what comes next. the only certainty is that
9:03 pm
president putin has never appeared weaker in his more than two decades in power. >> many have agreed with that. thank you. former trump administration official who helped negotiate the abraham accords. adam, it's great to have you on. thank you for helping us out here. this is from the wall street journal quoting here, putin survives with permanent damage. saying russia's president appea appears as a weak leader. the biggest surprise about the armed rebellion against russian military generals is the kremlin had clear warnings that a coup attempt was imminent and did nothing to prevent it. was this the most serious threat ever to putin's group on power, adam? >> i think the united states is the most serious threat ever, but this is up there. i think this is what happens when you make a pack with the
9:04 pm
devil. that's effectively what it is here and his group. a lot of people don't remember this but in 2018, their troops attacked us in syria and we killed 2, 300 of the troops. it's not the first time we have come into contact and it won't be the place. what do you make of that? >> i think the united states has been smart in keeping distance from this. this is coming from somebody who is clearly no putin fan. you have gone just about as bad, if not worse. this is an administration that sanctioned me a month ago. i'm not fan of this administration at all. i'm not a fan of this guy
9:05 pm
either. i think you let these internal things play out. it represent a weakness on putins part. that's a good thing for us. >> i wonder where it goes from here, adam. we talk about relationships. is china rethinking its relationship with russia? do we rethink weapons being sent to ukraine? what's the next move in your assessment? >> i think from a china perspective, you and i talked a few months ago around china. i think at the end of the day, china doesn't want this conflict to continue. it's not a good look for china especially not with putin at the helm and this representing additional weakness. i think there's possibility for china to play and put pressure on putin and this administration. i think we can work behind the scenes with them on it. >> reports today out of ukraine saying the ukrainians thought this whole internal matter in russia was too good to be true. is it time for ukraine to maybe do something unexpected to maybe
9:06 pm
raise the bar a little bit on this war? >> i think what the united states needs to do is really commit in here and make sure the ukrainians have our full backing. we put a lot of military aid forth. we're arming them and doing the right thing. the time for half measures is passed. we were attacked in 2018 under the prior administration. it was a conoco facile taity th was attacked. that's the kind of thing we need to do here. i think strength, this is the time to push forth. that's how you be drive a peaceful set. >> adam, good analysis as always. thank you, sir. >> thank you, trace. moving on now, house speaker kevin mccarthy is threatening to impeach merrick garland about who was in charge of the hunter
9:07 pm
biden investigation. we have breaking information. kevin, good evening. >> the white house leaving many scratching their heads tonight after including hunter biden in official events at camp david over the weekend. that is despite the president's son facing tax and firearm charges. the younger biden, as you know, has received what republicans in the house are calling a sweetheart deal with the doj that is despite a whistle blower's testimony revealing he invoked his father's name to help close a multi-million dollar business deal with a chinese national and other deals. neither the president nor the administration see it that way. >> no. >> we respects the government ethics here. this is administration that's been incredibly transparent on that and has put some very strict rules. >> now, while the president
9:08 pm
denies any involvement in hunter's business dealings, speaker of the house is raising new questions tonight about allegations that the attorney general of the united states, with the president's blessing, perhaps has weaponized the justice department. >> if it comes true what the irs whistle blower is saying, we will start impeachment inquiries on the attorney general. >> the white house is firing back at mr. mccarthy that the move is a partisan stunt. trace. hear that stunt word a lot around washington. let's bring in stewart. jonathan turley kind of summed it up. who is lying? the only thing clear is someone is lying either these whistle blowers are lying to congress or these justice department officials, including garland are lying. that's kind of it in a nutshell. your thoughts.
9:09 pm
>> my money is the department of justice has been less than forthright. if we look at the plea offer that hunter biden has negotiated. no defendant could accept a pre-trial deversion without getting the assurances from the department of justice that any and all other investigations have been shut down and closed because the acceptance of a pre-trial diversion would expose you to possible liability in connection with that firearms case. we now know any and all pending investigations, they've been shut down. we also know the fast tracking of this plea is going to prevent the government from its obligation of turning over any evidence in connection with both these cases, the tax case and the firearms case. check mate on the american people from the department of justice. >> yeah, the house judiciary committee will keep at it. jim jordan talked about a list
9:10 pm
of people he wants to talk to. watch. >> we want to talk to leslie wolf. she stopped the search warrant. she said you can't ask questions during the investigation. you can't bring up the term, the big guy. stop and think about this for a second. >> who would you add or take away from that list and is that a sufficient list, in your estimation? >> well, look, any investigation i've ever been involved it in that included the treasury department or criminal investigation division is always front run by the fbi. any fbi agents from management down should be on the hit parade with respect to bringing them in, putting them under oath and talking about those inner circle meetings with respect to what was going on, wa was decided and what was orchestrated. here is the problem and here is where the wheels will fall off for the department of justice. not once have we discussed the source of funds that hunter
9:11 pm
biden is being charged with with respect to a misdemeanor tax evasion. that's front and center. the fbi, they investigation money laundering, public corruption and that has mistier i don' -- mysteriously gone away. >> it's amazing to me because you have the mainstream media saying he was on drugs. he didn't know what he was doing and the flip side saying he was on the board because he was such a brilliant business guy. you can't have it both ways. this is just not how it works. >> i have never seen a tax case, in this type of setting, where someone has been charged with money laundering or some other bribery component. the fact that now the treasury department is just throwing up a two misdemeanor tax count in and of itself, again, it's going to play itself out. the wheels are slowly but surely
9:12 pm
falling off the wagon of the department of justice. i would not be surprised if you see the attorney general within a week or two resigning from his position. there's no way he will be able to withstand the scrutiny that's coming down the pipe. >> it's a fascinating statement. great to have you on. thank you, sir. >> always my pleasure. thank you. an audio recording of former president trump from 2021 reveals a conversation about classified material in which he appears to brag about possessing a sensitive document regarding iran. a trump's spokesperson released a statement saying in part that the president wads speaking rhetorically. the former president is facing federal indictment that references this audio recording and claims he showed the classified information about the plan for a potential attack on iran to two unauthorized individuals.
9:13 pm
the fox news at night common sense department looked up the word hypocrisy. turns out it's not latin for politician. it could be. it wasn't long that eric adams touted the sanctuary city policy. it offered safety and refuge to illegal migrants around the world. when texas governor sent bus loads of migrants to new york, the mayor wasn't nearly as accommodating. he called the move a stunt, a political ploy and just 19 days ago he called it morally bankrupt. well, it appears mayor adams only moral bank account is on overdraft protection because surprise, surprise, the mayor has also been putting migrants on buses and sending them right back to texas and florida and about 23 other states, including states that are not sanctuaries. the mayor's office will tell you
9:14 pm
their bussing program is different. they are connecting people. republicans assault democracy. democrats peacefully assemble. common sense understands that hypocrisy means pretending. maybe somethbody should remind m he's the mayor of new york. republican presidential candidate ron desantis paid a visit to the southern border to outline his immigration policy. we have the governor's plan on that. good evening. >> good evening, trace. florida governor made his first trip as a presidential candidate monday. >> it is humiliating as a country to not have control over our own territory. we will stop the invasion. we will reassert our nation's
9:15 pm
sovereignty. >> desantis remarks were welcomed by locals and potential voters. after getting briefed by texas dps troopers and going on a boat tour of the rio grande, he offered up his own solutions to the problem including building a border wall, taxing illegal immigrants remittances, changing rules of engagement to allow deadly force to be used on anyone cutting through the border call. >> at the end of the day, a country has borders and borders matter. you either enforce the borders or you're not a country. we have not done a good job of that lately. we'll have a new sheriff in town on january 20th, 2025. he has criticized trump. saying the trump administration didn't fulfill the promise and he will be much more assertive. we'll have to wait and see.
9:16 pm
>> we will find out. thank you so much. appreciate it. let's bring in florida gop chairman. christian, great to have you on. i want to put this up. ap quoted the following. republican candidate promised to end birthright citizenship, finish building the southern border wall and send u.s. forces into mexico to combat drug cartels. sounds an awful lot like the former president's plan. >> it does. the border is out of control. we seen with joe biden that illegals are flooding into our country in is what the purpose of primaries are. we're seeing president trump and governor desantis running to the right on immigration and from the republican party standpoint, this is welcomed and i'm excited to hear more about their plans and for them to go even more aggressive on the border. >> what's interesting is that the largest police union in florida has come out in support of ron desantis. the same police union that in
9:17 pm
2020 supported trump. are you surprised? is that something you knew was coming or did this catch some people flat footed? >> well, it's the florida police union. it's expected. when you see governor desantis invest over $100 million in salaries for law enforcement that he added to in the state of florida. i think it was about 2500 officers that he gave recruitment bonuses to that he recruit into the state of florida. he's worked hand in hand with law enforcement. he's got a lot of support in law enforcement around the country as well. we'll see that play out. they will g state by state and get these endorsements and the national organizations will weigh in too. not surprising but it's a big get for the governor. >> sit a big get. i want to put these up. these are the poll ps. this is biden versus trump. donald trump at 45. the president at 49%.
9:18 pm
is that surprise? looks like the president has picked up a point or two though well within the margin of error over the past couple of weeks. any comments? >> i think, look, president trump has a lot of support around the country. these are national polls. i think it reflects that. governor deesantis just got in the race. he will be working hard to get his numbers up in is a battle. as the florida gop chairman, it's tough one for us to watch. we have our governor against our president. both floridans. both well respected by the party. we will be there to support whoever the grass roots pick. we'll make sure they get elected in november. >> you mentioned ron desantis. this is biden versus desantis. it's deadlock, 47-47. does that surprise you at all? it's kind of been that way for the past several weeks. >> i think whoever our republican nominee is will beat joe biden. when you look at what joe biden
9:19 pm
has done whether it's inflation or foreign affair, our country is weaker. no one can say our country is stronger with joe biden than it was with president trump. whether it's trump, desantis or someone else, we'll see. it doesn't matter. we'll be joe biden. i feel very confident. we got a long time. we got plenty of time for these numbers to go up. joe biden has been not held accountable. the media doesn't hold him accountable. no one holds him accountable. now when we get to election season, that's our time to hold him accountable. >> this is robert f. kennedy junior on bill maher. >> the guts and integrity to take that stand and stick by your guns when media, you lose the new york times, family. that, to me, is a pair of balls. >> listen, when he was talking gun, he wasn't talking about rfk's arms. we have been watching that all week.
9:20 pm
i got to get your final thoughts. is he resonating? what do you think? >> rfk looks like a sensible democrat. they were voters appear to them because they seem normal. rfk, during covid, it was tough to find anyone fighting against the vaccine or warning against the vak teen ccine more than rf. i think he brings some sensible conversation when it comes to the vaccine. he's still a democrat at heart. there's a lot of issues we disagree with him on. if he ends up being the nominee, which i think is a long shot but i think to see the debates because i think you will see insane with someone a little more sane with rfk. whoever gets out of there, we'll defeat. >> great to have you on. thank you. >> appreciate it. rj a jury is deliberating of an

9:42 pm
i was hoping it was a ban on pineapple pizza. the amount of coal fire ovens is minuscule. this means nothing. i think it's a red herring to push the natural gas bans on stoves. coal produces a phenomenal pizza because of the heat source. if question look at things from the environmental perspective, 20% of our electricity is produced by coal. this is absurd. i've said it as well, you'd have to cook probably, and this is a stat, probably a million coal fire pizzas in order to match the amount of carbon emissions that comes out of one trip from john kerry's private plane. what's going on here? >> i told you this at the break that we lived in westport, connecticut and pepe's pizza was unbelievable. lab cultivated chicken, usda approval has been given to lab
