>> meanwhile all eyes on the supreme court justices will rule on the remaining cases before the summer recess including a decision on the president biden student loan forgiveness program. the white house bracing for a decision one day after biden described the high court as not normal. mark, the president was queried. has the court gone rogue? >> he certainly gave his opinion, steve, where he thinks the u.s. supreme circuit court going, and president biden and the rest of the court will learn if the student loan forgiveness plan is legal or not. it comes after a major ruling. on thursday the supreme court saying colleges cannot use race as a factor in their admissions. the conservative majority saying

race and violates the constitution. in the future the universities wishing to discriminate on race must justify a compelling state interest. we also heard from judge brown-jackson and said let them eat cake obliviousness, they announce color blindness for all by legal fiat. separately the court also ruling unanimously in favor of a postal worker in pennsylvania that was seeking a religious exception from working on sundays. the judge ruled they should be granted as it limits exceptions.

>> after awhile, they mandated it for everyone. it was so amazing to see a 9-0 decision in our favor. i was just so glad to see it was unanimous that the conservative justices and the liberal justices came together to agree that it is important to protect religious freedom. >> a colorado web designer says she is an artist and she should not be forced to design website that's go against her religious beliefs. president biden was asked about his thoughts on it, and he said in his opinion "this is not a normal court." >> mark, regarding one of the upcoming cases and the student debt forgiveness, you to figure if the supreme court says you can't do it, it is because it is essentially half a trillion dollars and you need congress to

approve it and they used the information of the hero's act that was for military members to apply to everybody across the board and that's not why that bill was written. >> right and the white house had been facing questions for months before today's decision about what kind of authority the president would have to do this. he hinted that he didn't know if he had legal authority, but the white house said they were putting it out for the court to decide. see see if there are any surprising coming out, but i imagine that the white house has a press release ready to go on this. >> let's talk about affirmative action and now will be in our rearview mirror. they made it clear that it doesn't matter if you're harvard or any other college you can look at somebody's whole application, the grades are good, the s.a.t.s are okay, but

the personal story is fantastic, i like it. you can write about being a minority. you can write about parents and the triplations of a parent passing away and how you had to get a job in between. no one is stopping you from telling your personal story, and for a college like harvard to choose to pick you but it should not be a mandate where a certain amount of black, asian, or whites, they thought that was fundamentally wrong. she expects 25 years from when she said that, that racial preferences will no longer be necessary in america. are we at that place? i feel we're at that place. many people at other networks don't. >> it wasn't just harvard, it was the university of north carolina. they used race as a key to admission to diversity and to address past wrongs. the question before the judges

is "is that fair"? this particular decision with affirmative action wound up denying admission to asian american students despite the fact that they had better grades and standardized test scores as well. when we had alex in the chair he said ultimately it's not fair, watch. >> i think america fundamentally is not particularly a demography but an ideal. and the ideals are equality on the basis of race. and that success is possible through the magic of i guess. i think that yesterday's ruling affirms these fundamental american values and makes our country better. now we can't judge applicants by their race. when you view us fist and foremost by the box we check off

for what race we are, of course i think that is problematic. that is not fair or equal. >> it is interesting to see some of the critics of this opinion coming out on, against, clarence thomas saying here is a guy that benefitted from affirmative action. he would not be there if it wasn't for this and now he is against it and this is precisely the problem, right? there is an assumption that he got through the court through affirmative action. i talked to my daughter that went to the computer of chicago and she says that her and other minority students get that look like you got in because of that. i think that minorities want to get in based on their merritt -- merit. i mentioned this in the interview that we had is that i think this is an opportunity to see what are the root props for why there is such an achievement

gap when it comes to merit based tests like the sat score. we can look at the pup lick schools and say what are they doing wrong? how are they not serving these populations. this is an opportunity to do that. >>. >> absolutely, and i think we have an important look at a few years ago when celebrities were getting into these elite schools. some went to jail because of it. you see a celebrity, they had their own sitcom. they were scamming the system, but i saw african-americans on campus saying now celebrities will know how we feel. people think we got here because of affirmative action. it is a near perfect sat score.

i think it is just for the better. >> i think it is actually in sports. they don't look at color, they look at performance and you know, that should be an example for all of us. >> sure. in the meanwhile, fourth of july next week, and we know lee greenwood is proud to be an american, but what about you. gallup has come out with their latest finding and they asking this question since 2001. unfortunately last year was the lowest rating in history. only 38% of americans said it, but you have to wonder to yourself why exactly are americans not as proud as we used to be back just not that long ago, the number was much higher. and the majority of americans

said they're very proud. and i think we have a generation you talk so much about this, brian with our country and our founding and so many of our heros that are the founders of our country have been denigrated. >> so how about this as we expand on that poll, are america's best days behind us or ahead of us? 48% said ahead of us. so i also think, too, and by the way look at that number. 63% were optimistic. this was totally i think cyclical in a way, but i think

that you have a fundamental responsibility to go out of your way to understand how special the country is. and you can educate yourself right now. i find it hard to believe that you can back your team. but you can say wow, i don't like the way -- i don't like the president or the direction of the country or the supreme court. how could you not love the country and not see within that maybe you disagree with the direction at the time? and i just fundamentally, i don't know where we got off track like this. >> asking about the demographics, who do you think is the most -- >> well -- republicans?

was empty less than a week ago. that build up happening the same day that russian military says the leader arrived in belarus days after the reported plan to capture russian military leaders failed. here with insight, general jack keen. you can always go to the institute study to find out what is happening with this war. so as belarus gets built up, is he out of this war effort? >> i don't think we know that yet. what is supposed to happen, the announcement was made that they were going to take tanks, airplanes, and artillery pieces. if that is the case their role would be very limited without that advanced equipment. secondly we do know that the decisions have been made about vaugner has an extension of the policy. no operations in syria.

they have been told that with vaugner. however in case they were told they are still there they will still operate. they are still part of the putin foreign policy that has been successful in africa. as a matter of fact the french have withdrawn. but when it comes to the war in ukraine, i don't think we can forecast yet are they going to have a future role. their role would be greatly diminished. if they're able to keep it and they have a base there, possibly the decision has not been made yet on what role they will play. >> a couple things are happening now. vladimir putin is being criticized by these russian websites. they're critical of the way they acted. they're critical on the act of aggression, the people part of this would be coup or overthrow.

they were associated very much with vaugner who seems to have disappeared. what is happening in the kremlin? >> certainly the reason why they didn't make it all of the way to moscow, one of the reasons, is that the people he had -- he was depending on to come to his assistance, particularly military generals and their forces, didn't happen which is the major reason while most coups fail. we saw it with all of the elites and some of the military was going to come to his assistance and that coup failed dramatically. people get cold feet at the last minute. those that we identified as being a cohort because they operate in syria together, and he was likely going to come to his assistance, but very shortly

welcome back to "fox and friends." a new report published by the committee to unleash prosperity revealed how costly the biden regulations are so far. it is costing americans $10,000 per household. a third of the regulations are rooted in the automobile and fuel economy and emission standards. when projecting for eight years the report estimates that former president trump would have saved americans $21,000 per household while biden is expected to cost

americans $60,000. here is the author of that report, an economics professor from chicago, casey mulligan. thank you for joining us this morning. i appreciate it. let's talk about how regulations cost americans and is it mostly energy and automobile as we mentioned before? how is that costing us? >> well, the environmental regulations get a lot of press. those automobile regulations are a big deal and there is more coming adding thousands of dollars to the price of a new car. but actually there is a lot more regulations that are more boring about business, various types of business, health care business, telecommunication business. these are adding to our internet bills, our banking fees, and prescription drug costs, etc. when you add all of the thousands of regulations

together, you're getting something that is very noticeable and impactful for every day people. >> they're kind of like the regulations that we don't even notice happening and then we add them up and they really take a punch oven our budget. some of the things we have been talking a lot about are dishwashers and washing machines. they cost more and then they don't work as well. that is also a problem. you talked a little in your report about excess debts being part of this picture, explain that. >> well, you know, biden was talking about his economy. and he is mad at us that we don't realize how great it is, but we have a real human capital crisis right now. workers are not able to be as productive as they used to be. we see it at the school level. the kids are not learning. wages are not keeping up with inflation, and then a lot of

people are dieing and not from covid, but from more than normal deaths. traffic accidents, diabetes, heart attacks. i could go on and on. this is across the board human capital crisis like we have not seen for decades. and that is hurting our economy and it hurts regular people and their every day lives. >> i don't think there has been enough attention put on excess deaths and understanding what is it and how it affects productivity. >> we're coming up on a presidential election. we're seeing these numbers and it is astounding. saving $21,000 versus costing you an additional $60,000 over i think you said an eight-year period. what can say a trump or gop presidency with the principals, can they turn this around? and how long would that take according to some of your

all right, back with a fox weather alert. millions of americans across the midwest hit by severe thunderstorms yesterday. some storms with wind gusts up to 100 miles per hour. the system leaving behind a trail of destruction across a number of states including, as you can see there, illinois. in denver, colorado, the streets turning into rivers after getting pounded with rain and hail. let's look at that ahead of the 4th of july weekend. let's check in with senior meteorologist janice dean with a lot to talk about. >> look at the storm reports that we had yesterday across the
