3:01 am
>> chicago hit with severe flash flooding stunning drivers stunned by the sudden rushing water. nascar fans faced downpours for the city's first street race delayed by 90 minutes due to the weather and it was shortened by 25 laps. >> still exciting though, a lot of fun to watch and today on the west coast residents are warned to brace for extreme heat with temperatures in some areas expected to soar, get this, over 115 agrees so we check in with meteorologist adam klotz for our fox weather forecast. adam. >> very active weather across the country continuing to see at least some of that here early this morning and it will linger the next couple of days. all those thunderstorms have been largely on the eastern half of the country. this is a 12 hour radar loop and you see the explosion of thunderstorms every single afternoon and evening. expect to see something similar again today. early this morning you see those storms die down they pick up in the afternoon and evening hours but where we're still seeing fairly heavy rain is across portions of new england

airport. there hasn't been extreme weather here at all. >> steve: no. the problem at newark airport, because i fly into it at least once a week and one of the pilots said, you know, we always land early, and then we wait for a gate. the problem is, there are only a certain numbers of gates and what united airline had asked for yesterday, they asked for the faa to open up more gates for them. the pilot explained, the problem is, united schedules all of the gates so tightly it's like, okay, the plane is going to leave at 11:00. >> the next one comes right in. >> steve: right, it's going to be there at 11:05 it never leaves at 11:00 and the one in the ali can't get in another behind it next thing you know it's chaos and that's newark. >> have you seen the i love lucy clip where she's working on the candy line, gets behind and she's trying to find places to put it, that's the airline. it never stopss stops. and unfortunately i spend so much time at the air pofrment you ask me my least favorite

able to land the plane because the altimiders speak to -- there's interference. most of the planes that have not been updated are not flying into those places which is good. apparently delta airlines have 200 planes that have not been retrofitted, the rest have been and they're flying into places like new york where there is bad weather. >> we lost a pie lots because of the covid mandates. to pete buttigieg couple things he can do dstopping us take off shoes. they can use working dogs where i was at an airport where they had really long lines and they couldn't deal witness they brought in the dogs to sniff us and let us all through. and he can promise to never make us do mask theater again when we are traveling. there are things can he do to make traveling better but he's just not an expert in transportation, shouldn't have a job. >> steve: we just want planes to go places when they say they're
