>> residents are warned to brace for extreme heat. temperatures expects to soar to 115 degrees. let's check in with adam klotz for the fox weather forecast. what do you have for us? >> adam: wild weather across the country. eastern half of the country, something similar today. you see every afternoon storms explode, expect to see something this afternoon. the rain continuing to linger across new england, at times fairly heavy. that takes heat of the day. rain from mississippi and georgia to the carolinas. potential for severe weather today, including areas like charlotte, norfolk, dc and philadelphia, up to new york. that is two on a scale of five, large hail and wind possible and

the reason i mention that, up on the big board, the number of people cussing at the airline through the roof. look at that. on the graphics on the right are cancellation. on saturday, almost 8000 delays and 300 cancellation. on sunday, fewer delays, double the cancellation. today 600 delays and 83 cancellations. if you have a connecting flight or have to be at an event and they cancel, what are you supposed to do? rachel is thinking about driving. >> rachel: i was just asking, should i drive, i don't want to get stuck at the airport. other passengers have been delayed, here is what they have to say about their experience at

will i make it on standby? that was my home-town airport in atlanta. >> rachel: that is why they were so nice. >> i will take credit, they route you all over that airport different times of day. >> steve: what is going on, americans were sick of covid and people are starting to travel. this week, they are suggesting four million people will be in the skies, 15% higher than it was in 2019, before covid. the problem is, as you look at newark airport and their new terminal a is really nice. if you are stuck somewhere, you might as well be stuck there. the faa needs more air traffic controllers and airlines need more rampers and gates. at newark, united has asked from port authority of new york and new jersey, give us more gates,

we don't have enough places to park the planes. >> rachel: they need more pilots and flight attendants. there were mandates and many decided to retire because they didn't want vaccines. it is important to have a transportation secretary who is an expert in the field and pete buttigieg isn't. pete buttigieg is saying, it's not me, it is the weather. even though there has been perfect weather, not bad in the northeast. listen to this. >> we had a hard few days with severe weather at the beginning of the week and that definitely put enormous pressure on the system. on friday, we saw, according to tsa, record number of passengers and saw cancellation rates stay low, below 2%.

they shot up first part of the week because of severe weather hitting the key hubs. most passengers understand no one can control the weather, anything under control of the airline and the faa side, we need to continue pushing to make sure there is smooth experience everywhere. >> you said we need a transportation expert that is expert about transportation, i disagree, we need a transportation secretary that can be a leader. pull from anywhere in the country and do a good job. you need a leader that can find good ideas and put in action and bring people to the table with different interest for stated goal of fixing this problem and this problem persists. you can't blame the weather. the weather exposes the problem. >> rachel: the left is trying to

newark, laguardia and kennedy within a couple miles. when there is bad weather, it is hard to fly in, they use instrumentation. they rolled out the new 5g this weekend. they had been moving it down, they moved planes that do not have updated systems to places where it doesn't rain. >> rachel: taylor riggss the faa is not equipped for this. >> the faa is just not right now equipped to handle events we used to be able to handle. united airlines ceo kirby said the faa used to be able to handle these, no longer due to staffing and shortages, not able to handle it. that is frustration with passengers, people want to make

15-year-old boy. in the dc area, police are sounding off following a crimeistry, investigators say yesterday morning a suspect committed a homicide and three carjackings, killing two dogs in the process after exchange of gunfire with police, that suspect was taken into custody. >> done this job for a long time and it is extremely rare to come across an individual who has such a disregard for life. >> alexandria: explosive devices in the capital. people are searching for those who used them to attack buildings yesterday. it was set off around atm then a nike store and a grocery store. just feet or blocks from the capitol building, supreme court, important stuff around there.

police are working with su surveillance video, they have not caught them. in baltimore, 30 people shot yesterday morning, most victims were teens, many of them children. 18-year-old gonzalez and bemy were killed in that. police are searching for the suspects, multiple shooters fired their weapons in the brooklyn homes section of the city. >> this was a reckless act of violence that has taken two lives and altered many more. we will find those who are responsible and we will not stop until we do so. >> alexandria: residents reported hearing barrage of gunfire, given the weekend, some assumed it was fireworks. >> steve: that is understandable.
