for reparations and you heard bush and others calls for reparations. i've heard you say this is damaging to black americans. why is that? >> yeah, good morning, kevin. we have seen reparations tried and failed through programs meant to uplift families, especially black families and subsidize counter productive behavior that undermine the black family and led to single-parent households and games be being made including up to the 1960'ses, when you saw crime reduction and homeownership rates rising, wealth starting to accumulate with great society program. idea of redistribution from nonoppressors to nonvictims today, i don't see way to unlift black communitieses, even poor

white communitieses. reduce roadblocks that make it difficult for people to access school choice or opportunities in the workforce through higher ed or apprenticeship and working and starting small businesses. >> kevin: yeah, and got to rebuild the family, it starts there. i mentioned newark's mayor, share video and get you to react on the other side. listen to this. >> reparations, new jersey must acknowledge and repair harms it caused to black communities by deeply investing in the very areas where there have been generations of systemic disinvestment, programs and direct payments. through reparations, we can make the two new jerseys one. >> kevin: he said something really key there, make the two new jerseys one.

i think that is separation and that bothers a lot of people. we don't have much time, 10 seconds of reaction to what you just heard. >> yeah, this idea of dividing people when really the divide is along class lines, that gets lost in nuance there. there are a lot of poor people who are white and there are middle class black families, hispanic and asian american families temperature is a class issue and ensuring everyone has good k-12 level and access to opportunities, whether through four-year school or alternatives to college. that is not what they are talking about, but where we see opportunities take root. >> kevin: it is infuriating for americans who have done many years of work to create a cohesive society showing how we can work together and do well together rather than separate.

the mother of this nine year old had gotten across and realized her son is in distress, having seizures and dialed 911 and authorities responded. this is why we have a humanitarian crisis on this border and because of the administration's policies that began in 2021, when joe biden took over, it drew migrants believing they could come and would be allowed to stay and this is the tragic end no one likes to see. >> ashley: griff, you have spoken to countless people at the border, is this something they are worried about? is that in the forefront of the mind? >> they are very worried and they talk about the disregard smugglers have. they are fully aware and in many cases, paying their life savings

that's not easy mentally or physically. do you think this more pertains to the democrats more than anything? >> well, i think it pertains really so much to a younger population. they want to identify with someone who's physically active. but to your point, president trump has kept a schedule beyond schedules. you know, i'm a surgeon. i used to keep a really very, very tough schedule and i'm always surprised at, you know, his 2:00 a.m. messages as they were to the world and everything. no, i think he's fine physically fat. other guys may be able to show a little bit more muscle or pec action but i think the president's done a pretty good job. >> ashley: absolutely i agree on that. we do have to switch topics here. the state department has released an unclassified version of its report detailing the breakdowns and communication and decision making during the afghanistan withdrawal. one of your constituents, sergeant nicole g was one of the 13 service members killed in kabul. not only do you have that tied

to this, there's that aspect of it, but also, do you take issue with the fact that they released this on the friday before not just a holiday weekend, but an extra long holiday weekend. because the 4th didn't fall until tuesday. usually we would see these on monday so it's even more time. what do you make of that timing? >> well, it implies guilt, ashley. basically, you know, ask chair man roberts -- rodgers rather was asking for these documents, same with representative mccall, asking for these documents, keep continuing getting blocked and blocked, which seems to be a mantra of this administration. then finally when the report comes out which absolutely dams and contradicts the white house report previously, of course, the white house wants to hide it, the administration wants to hide it and the best thing to do is to do that on a friday before a holiday weekend. this is just typical from them.
