>> greg: we are out of time. our studio, i am greg gutfeld. see you next week at 10:00 p.m. [applause] >> good evening, everyone, welcome to america's late news. i am mike emanuel in washington, in trace gallagher. breaking tonight, another attempt to wipe out billions of dollars of debt. the rules of the road are being ignored in one california city. the streets look more like scenes from "fast and furious," we begin with the break of the case of the long island serial killer. officials say they got their
9:01 pm
guy. >> ashley is here. >> the case has baffled investigators over a decade. today, police finally identify the suspect. >> greg sherman is a demon that walks among us. a predator that ruins families. if not for the members of this task force, he would still be on tp streets today. >> 59-year-old rex herman. he pled not guilty. >> he did say in tears that i didn't do this. we didn't have any evidence, this is the beginning of the case. everybody is presumed innocent in our country. >> early this morning, police swarmed his home on long island.
9:02 pm
it is not far from where the bodies were found. the charges are linked to three murders, all women and he's the prime suspect for a fourth that may be connected as many as ten. the investigation begins in 2010 with the search of missing 23-year-old shannon gilberts. police discovered the bodies of four other women now down as the gilgo four. back in january, they found dna on pizza crusts that connected him to three of the murders. documents also revealed the married father of two frequently sought out sex workers and conducted online searches related to prostitution and child pornography. he's in custody held without bail. a bail hearing is scheduled for august 1st. if he's convicted, he could face multiple sentences and more
9:03 pm
charges could be filed. more on that, mike, back to you. >> ashley, thank you very much. >> let's bring in nicole parker, former fbi special agent, class action attorney, kelly hines. >> nice to see you. >> we'll convict him and hold him responsible for what he did and whether, you know, what i think of him personally or whether i don't like him -- does not matter. we are going to hold him responsible for what he did in this case. >> nicole, how did they hold him accountable for these crimes? >> this is a very important day in this investigation. this has been an unanswer mystery for years and these family members are looking for closures. they're going to bring justice to him because they have done over 300 search warrants and subpoenas. they have done absorbant amount

of investigations. it seems to be rock solid evidence. they formed a task force with local state and federal partners. they have been working on this for years. this case has been looked at and investigated for years behind the scenes. they brought this case on and it is rock solid evidence in my opinion. we heard the commissioner called this suspect a demon walks among us. kelly, what's unique about this case from your perspective? >> when we look at it from a legal perspective, we have to note that first he was indicted. that means a grand jury based on the evidence they heard believe that there was sufficient evidence to charge him with a crime. so, what has he been charged with? he's been charged with first-degree murder. in first-degree murder, there has to be the intent,
9:05 pm
premeditated, planned intent to kill someone. second-degree murder is also the fact that he did kill someone but it does not have to be planned or premeditated. we have to look at did this allegedly happen oed over ten years ago. the fact that dna is involved in this case is going to be key and potentially powerful and strong evidence for the state. >> for the suspect's side of thing, his attorney says he didn't do it but he does not have any evidence yet. how challenging it is for this attorney? >> we are talking about cell phone data. the fbi worked on what we call cast. they also provided, you know, burner phones that were looked at, the cell site towers, that's some - solid.
9:06 pm
they interviewed one of the victims' roommates. this is just dedication to this investigation. as a former agent, you see the evidence, and thank you know you are there to protect these victims to serve justice and you do not give up. the google search, that's a powerful piece of evidence. i work similar investigations. this man was looking up over 200 search terms and looking into what the status of the case was. it all adds up. i think - you know, he'll end up being convicted on this. >> kelly, final word for you. >> ultimately, it is going to be up to the jury based on the facts and evidence and under the court of law, you are innocent until proven guilty. hopefully, that the victims and their families can have some type of justice. >> nicole parker and kelly

intersections and neighboring streets and parking lots and bridges to put on dangerous performance like high speedo nuts. in this video back in april, san francisco's bay bridge is taken over completely and cut-off by one of these side shows. local residents say some of these drivers wore masks to hide their identity. they'll pull guns on anybody taking pictures of license plates and making their streets sometimes seen like fast and furious. this is a video from the aircraft showing one of them in sarasota back in 2020. local politicians in oakland say they are fed up. >> we need to define penalties against organizers and facilitators of side shows. police clearly tell us that 64% of those participating in side shows are not from oakland.

jason rantz is sounding off on this problem. >> because most of the time these are juveniles and young adults that are responsible, they know they are not accountable. >> police department will have additional resources out on the streets to ramp up enforcement on these illegal side shows. they say if anybody takes part in one of these, their cars could be towed and seized. >> bill melugin, many thanks. >> dinero rodriguez was found dead in his apartment from a

9:12 pm
the action comes just a couple of weeks after the high courts struck down biden's $430 billion student loan relief because it was unconstitutional. however, this is important and by, i should point out despite anger from taxpayers and americans who never been to college and they have concerns that they're going to end up putting the bill for something they didn't receive a benefit for. well, in spite of all that, the white house says to plow ahead. the president says these borrowers will join the millions of people that my administration provided, resulted in $116 billion and loan relief to over 3 million borrowers under my administration. at the other end, congressional lawmakers are vowing to fight what they call an unprecedented efforts to bypass congress. >> if they can find a way to

9:14 pm
you can't have a legal pathway for the student loan amnesty. now, he goes a third way and it is more narrow. i don't think it will holdup when you look at what the justices have said on his original claim. this is clear political pardoning for these voters he's trying to sway in court and the leedup to the presidential next year. >> president biden says, republican lawmakers who have no problems of the government forgiving millions of dollars and tried everything they can. to be clear though, congress has the power, otherwise, every president would fund their own priorities, right? >> that's exactly right. congress has the authority here to provide relief. it is choosing not to because it is recognizing so many hardworking americans actually work hard to pay off their loans. they take a second job.
9:15 pm
maybe they don't take the loan in the first place. their family sacrificed for those decisions. americans know hardworking grit is what makes america possible. this is disappointing for r the president to go around the lotto advance his left-wing agenda. >> let's take a look at the numbers, the old plan is expected to impact $37 billion borrowers. this is designing benefits 800,000 people causing $49 billion. is that still significant taxpayers' money. >> it is still significant and it is still money from all taxpayers and not just those that went to college. people are on the hook whether or not they went to higher ed or they took a trade or they never made it to college. they are now responsible for paying the debt from someone in another state, another community. it is not equitable.
9:16 pm
where is equitable when it comes to amnesty for student loan debt. there should be responsibility and president biden should recognize that but instead encouraging people to get a job and pay the loan or going after these endowment. >> that's an interesting point. the most expensive school, someone going after them may provide relief to lots of worthwhile students. >> jessica anderson, thanks so much for your time. >> thank you for having me. >> the house passed a controversial defense bill that includes several amendments pushed by conservative to eliminate wokeness. senior congressional -- chad
