2:00 am
world cup next friday at 9 p.m. eastern on fox and, the fox sports app. >> we are out of time. >> gre you, carly, tim, guest host. yep. . jim florentineg:e t of. udio catch him. studio audience. fox news tonight is next on gre greg g gutfeld. see it next week at 10 p.m.. well, everybody, i'm jesse waters along with emily companion, harold ford jr. kayleigh mcenany and greg gutfeld. >> it's 5:00 in new york city and this is the five. >> a bombshell breakthrough for one of america's most notorious unsolved serial killer cases. >> police arresting rex hugh herman last night for the guilt go beach serial killings. the grisly set of murders of almost a dozen.
2:01 am
>> that's haunted law enforcement for over a decade. back in 2010 and 2011, new york authorities discovered 11 sets of human remains strewn along a suburban long island beach highway. >> he woman has been arrested in connection with the first four murders. their bodies were all found in burlap sacks along the beach in december 2010. >> another six women and a toddler were found in the following months, w womenice will see a fe. had any connection to those killings. >> today, he pleaded not guiltyd to six murder counts. officials say they won't stop unti ml. >> they solve all the killings. vacuuming is a demon that walks among us. a predator that ruined families. if not for the members of this task force. he will still be on the streets today. however, even with this arrest ,we're not done. >> cops linking him to murder through dna left on a discarded pizza box.
2:02 am
the accused was an architect, hei married with a daughter and a stepson and his neighborth a dae stunned. >> the guy's been quiet. never really bothers. >> you were kind of shocked. it's crazy. it's mind blowing. it's, you know, quiet. massapequa park. i've had small talk with thee gentlema n because he would do, like, woodwork. just, you know, average guyaverg living in, you know. >> so then they arrived. >> o >> so this case waf s called for a very long time. how dis d detectives put it together? >> ultimately, it was of yearsed a couple ago by a task force that had been reinstated there on long island. islanand suffolk county. and they linked together some circles, circumstantial tru evidence that included a green truck that he drove that was registered to hickhe registes. and they finally linked it via y dna evidence, good old dna evidence that seems to be resurrecting s and identifying a lot of these perps from these seemingly cold cases.
2:03 am
i talked to paul moro today earlier on my fox true crime podcast. he was an nypd detective and he worked in the intelligence as an augment to the task forces back in 2010, when they were first searching for shannan gilbert's body. >> and he pointed out that back then, the perp used to call the families and talk them and. the it was always the same time of day, the same day of the week from a payphon froe or phone ard midtown. so back then, authorities were backnre thescertai to triangulate where these calls were coming from. and at the endse coming of the, advancement in dna genealogical, forensic evidencee day has brought us ts point like we saw in green river in spokane, serial.t i want to point out one important thing here, that while today is absolutelo y cauf for appreciation for law enforcement celebration, thioras one step in the road to actualau victory and closure, this is ane arrest and identification, not a conviction. yentidentificat. and we don't know aboutl all those other bodies that were discoverebodies td, differ types of manners of death and the different types of
2:04 am
victimofent types and most can . >> we saw that with the spokaneg serial killer. e right. argued. no, no, no, this body can't be him. he always used a gunshot. thistic bag. no plastic bag. and those develop as serialand killerdeves. ifies learn and develop what? gratify them, what things th they can get away with,rs are what manners are more efficient. >> so here might be one person. inv >> and he evolved in the manneoe of his gruesome. or there might be many. so i just put out there, i know law enforcement worksscerta tirelessly to ascertain who is responsible for all those bodiesinonsible . wel and i know that we can count on the community support as well for appreciation this it moment and for continued alpport to identifify the additional murderers behind all the discoveries of all of thosl of e bodies. and yet another reason not to defund the police, because it goeits toward detective work too. >> and cold case research is not all about beat street that the left loves to hammer. t all ab streewhat did you makef the neighbors just shocked that they've been living next an accused serial killer for over a decade. >> it shows i would agree
2:05 am
with emily's last point around . this is the first step. and hopefully this is the first step, a domino dominoes will keep fallin ie es will g. i listen to well, to your point, he looks likeen to yo soo that could be your neighbor at work. he could be your neighbor. and you're and where you in the community you live. he could be your neighbor in a communitke your y where you m, you know, take your kids to the boys and girls club, wherever it may be. so this is it's frightening and startling in that regard . of thos and to tell you, the watching all of those police officers, federal, state and local officials there in that press conferenceco is as painful as some, you know, was a longs press conference, had to be painful for the families. i was so moved when all of them offered condolences to theo the families, the surviving family memberly membes. d >> and i was moved, as all ofasa them talked aboullt, the cooperation that they all had in this in this lengthy investigation. police officers and those in law enforcement never gave up herethose on. and their faithfulness
2:06 am
and their thoroughness to this casefaithful. should should if there are others out there, emily, that participatthere it that that someone else that that that that was involved in this they should know, ould kno thatk force in this community that our resolve will not exhau be exhausted here and west will find them iwill finf he's t the only one. >> emily mentioned the guy was n making calls tot the one.o victs families from work. how sadistic you have to be to do that. >> how sadistic do you have to be to googlt.e child hi google torture as? he did often on his computer to hundreds searches for go go murders in just four months. and he even poin t blank google the question, why hasn't the long island serial killer been caught trying to figure out how they were narrowing with cell phones, narrowingworkf what incredible police work from a thousand phonesrothousan0 phones to a handful of phones. then that green truck as emily mentioned, and then the dna evidence. this is a sick guy. he's described. as a demon that

walked among us by the police commissioner. how eerie thatthat i is, becausn you talk to some of his colleagues, he's described as socias l or a big talker, stand out, very personable, apparentlyd ou if he was in a r, he would seek out and make sure he talked to every person in som the the room. but there was something very weird and odd about him. even set weirdo, i feel for his. i feel for his kids. their lives are changed. i of course, it's innocent until proven guilty, but what a victoriousth pro day for those u women's families who have been tireless in pressing forg . >> and this has been a big casea in the new york area for quite some time. that'srea for quite true. is h and it's been it's good news for fox because this is the same neighborhooe orhoodd that brian kilmeade is from and he's now no longer a person of interest, which is which i'm nd thing we can cross him cross him off the list.ot but i'm not joking. we i still have my suspicions, but i always like watching law enforcement when they when confe they do the press conference because they thank everybody. and it remindsrethey tdy and r e the oscars, the best picture, except these people are real and thespicture see are heroes. and they and you could see

pompmuch it meanmes to and they're not a bunch of pompous actors. it's actually the real thing. ts this guy went to berner high school. did you know that? that's alsr high ol.o the high l that billy baldwin went to? so i think another winner here is that billy baldwin can say he's not the biggest loser from berner high school. >> it's actually he can't i mean, being a actor is nothing like being a serial killer. it is weird, though. he you know what this reminds me of? >> you know how they always say law and order the tv lawripped and order. >> their stories are ripped from the headlines. ththis is like a headline rip from law and order, because generally, you know, the serials killer, you knower, in law and order always turns out to be, you know, the white middle class architect. >> and everybody went foan for r the wrong person first and got him. but this exactly has that tv t twisp t where it's, oh, you kno, be qas known to be quite personable and probably know was smarter than the average bear. but, you know, you know, kept he kw. >> and there he is, another tall serial killer by th.e way.e
2:09 am
>> we talked about this.th exactly. and can i say the reason why they becomis n whe serial is becausee of of that, that lack of memory that everyone has in being associated with them. >> they are non memorable. andso they are not someone that stands out in personality or physically. soutt th that's partly why theye able to fly under the radar because they are sorthey aret of mundane. that's why. and that's also why, by the way, when you uploadso wload yo it's not 23 me, it's not ancestry.com, it's additional sitea,s. and you have to toggle you have to choose actively to toggle to release your dne to relna sot you can help cold cases like this, because otherwise the privacy concerns haveof extinguished all of law enforcement's efforts in that regard. >> i thinknt that regard to i : this is the problem with work prom, that those are work. the kinds of of. >> yes. you know, victims, you canntial choose because essentially we've made them apart from society. maybe they're estranged from their family. and so that their their specific only chosen for that reason. >> they're easy for easy prey. yeah. and emily's point aboutogy an technology and the growth in technology and how that thatd

we're going to miss your movies. they used my content that. the reason i as you, as you put forth that it sort ofhemati mathematically generatesca this content, it's because it has mined the internet for ite contencohat. so the artists are saying, that was my content to begin with. so now thient to begs just a de. but it does go into the point you guys are making where this streaming ecosystem has sort of ofees andd a lot of thes salaries. t and the question is who cares? and also america doesn't. >> because to your point, i'm fine watching reruns of the same stuff. i'm fine reading, i'm fine watching some stupid youtubei'm >> it's the studios. it's these guys that say, i'm an artist. th an st and my craft, but tene a whole of a lot more than we do. >> you know. i >> what's weird about this whole segment is that harold let it and i think that was on purpose. >> then no one asks you any questions about this topic, but i look at you and i know what's going on. >> i know what's on harold, harold said on their side. i'm upset about this.
