baier. alexandria hoff is live with what's happening on the campaign trail. >> reporter: we don't know in totally who's going to take part in this debate like former president trump. last night he skipped the campaigning in iowa. the caucuses are exactly six months away, and some republicans feel lashing out against a popular republican governor is a misten by trump. the former president sat down with maria bartiromo for an interview tomorrow on "sunday morning futures." >> if people think trump is going to be elected, you'll never have a recession. if people think i'm not, you're going to have a depression. >> reporter: again, the former president has yet to commit to next month's debate. former e governor chris christie and senator tim scott are the latest candidates to have met the rnc donor requirements the take part. today is the filing deadline for campaigns to turn over their april to june fund raising reports to the fec. these are the totals as of yesterday. today's reports will signify

which candidates have found their footing. nikki haley is holding an event in des moines, iowa, today. she said this earlier -- >> i know the other candidates are spending millions of dollars. we have not started spending any money yet because it's tool -- foolish to do so, it's not time. >> reporter: governor ron desantis has by far dished out the most money on digital ad bias, his team actually sent out letters to donors last week reassuring hem that the campaign is not short of momentum. the governor's also campaigning in iowaed today. and some relief came yesterday for democrats who felt that the biden-harris re-election bid was off to a slow start. the campaign reported it had raised over $72 million in the second quarter. aishah: okay. alex hoff, thanks for catching us up. griff: on the other side of the aisle, president biden reporting strong fund raising numbers for his 2024 re-election campaign despite his low approval ratings and concerns over his electability.

the campaign saying it has brought in $72 million since its launch earlier this year. lucas tomlinson is live at the white house with more. hey, lucas. >> reporter: hey, griff. as we just learned from alex's piece, that $72 million that the biden campaign has hauled in, that's about twice as much as the trump campaign and blew away all the other republican candidates as well, though it's notable that $72 million is not as much as a trump -- as trump raised back at this point in 2019 and also obama in 2011. so what does this mean? in this means the biden campaign says they now have $77 million cashin on hand. i think that'll buy a few tv ads. if president biden was not oversees -- overseas this week, he likely would have taken a victory lap at the white house. one of his top economic advisers sounded pretty optimistic. >> people are back in jobs, and it's going to take a while for people to feel really confident. but if you look at how people feel about their own personal

finances, you know, they've got better balance sheets, better earnings and their own view of their own situation is pretty positive. and it might take a little while for them to see that in the economy. >> reporter: while inflation year-over-year has dropped to 3%, let's remember where it was last year, griff, it was at 9%. you remember we went to the gas pump, it was over $5 a gallon. while inflation continues to rise, it's rising at a decreasing rate. that's positive, but prices still remain high. we don't have to tell our viewers. then there's this cocaine caper here at the white house. despite having a list of over 500 suspects, the secret service says it declined to interview any of them, drawing outrage from some republicans. >> it is deeply frustrating. this is one of the most secure locations in the world with some of the best law enforcement officers in the world, is and they don't have any answers. >> reporter: president biden is at camp david this weekend following a trip to the nato summit as well as london, helsinki. inflation and the economy, no doubt, will be major issues in

the 2024 election. griff? griff: indeed. lucas tomlinson live on the north lawn, thank you. aishah: okay, so for more on campaign 2024, let's bring in our political panel. with us today is bill mcginley and tim hogan, senior adviser at ac -- arc initiative. thank you both, gentlemen, for being here on this saturday. a lot's happened in the last couple of days here, so i want to get to, first, this big news from the biden-harris camp. huge numbers out yesterday. i think surprised a lot of folks. $72 million, i believe, $77 million cash on hand. here is the former obama campaign manager with his reaction to it. >> there's a whole bunch of democrats this morning taking a big sigh of releaf. these numbers are just incredibly impressive, and they're impressive for two reasons. one of them is the pace of them. per day, they're faster than even the obama 2011 numbers and,

two, to your point, there's real cash on hand numbers. aishah: okay. big sigh of relief, tim. and i imagine that's because of the cnn report that was out maybe 24 hours before the numbers, basically saying that there were a bunch of donors that were having anxiety over biden, even looking for a replacement, and then this comes out. is that a wash? >> we're democrats, we're always going to have anxiety -- of. [laughter] that's just baked into the party. but $72 million, $77 million cash on hand, i think 97% of that were from people donating $2000 or less. $39, the average grassroots donations -- 2900 or -- 200 orless. everything looks healthy, everything looks good. and this is why i think biden is well positioned in 2024. look, democrats were worried in 2022 as well, but like the president says, compare me against the alternative, not the almighty. we picked up a nat seat that cycle, we were really close in the house. i think he's in a good position.

aishah: okay, bill, so this doubles former president trump's holdings. i think he was at $35 million in the second quarter. are you surprised? what does that say? >> no. i think he's the ini couple bent president. he doesn't have any real competition, and as your report said, i mean, t less than obama and trump raised for their re-election campaign. aishah: it's a lot of money. >> and the other issue, or the other fact is the joint fund raising committee is with the dnc and not just a regular pac. so dnc contributions can be over $100,000 to the dnc which inflates that number. so we'll have to see when the report is filed what the actual number is to the campaign as opposed to the dnc. aishah: okay. let's talk about something else that the president has been struggling with. all these investigations on capitol hill. house republicans, of course, are still digging into hunter biden here. president biden, really the whole biden family. and they're going to be bringing in these two whistleblowers next week, it's going to be a blockbuster hearing on capitol hill. here's chairman comer with a

preview. >> these are very credible career irs employees who have never blown the whistle on anything. one is a very partisan registered democrat, so we're excited that it's going to be a bipartisan panel. we're going to be able to ask them very specific, substantive questions about crimes that have been committed by with various members of the biden family. aishah: okay. and then there's the cocaine issue, no suspects, and you heard republicans on the hill saying this is a double standard. the biden family continues to get away with things they shouldn't be. i'm going to go to you, tim. is this narrative hurting the president? >> i think definitively, no, because there's a morning consult poll this week that asked what congress' top priorities should be, and the gop investigations -- the litany of hem -- barely even cracked 33%. they're barely holding on to the core of their party, and it's because james comer and other chairs have promised and

overpromised on allegations coming true, and then we realize that they fall apart once they're put under the spotlight. we saw chris or if wray, the u.s. attorney -- christopher wray, david weiss, who is leading the prosecution of hunter biden on his taxes. both of those people are registered republicans. christopher wray was confirmed by a senate, republican senate twice, first when he made it to the doj the first time and then when he was the fbi director. i think once these allegations get under the spotlight, they tend to fall apart, and that's what's happened to james comer before, and i will bet that happens again. aishah: bill, there is some pressure on these committees to come up with something. i mean, we have been going through investigation, hearing after hearing, and it hasn't quite led us anywhere yet. >> well, to say one thing, age plus allegations are hurting the president. it's why you see a lot of these polls where a majority of voters say don't run for re-election, let somebody else come forward. so i would say these are beginning to hurt the bidens. house republicans do have a

burden to carry here. they need to be able to prove that the doj and fbi i are weaponized against conservatives on a variety of issues, and a lot of the stuff they've come forward do raise troubling a allegations that do deserve to be fully investigated. that being said, i also think there needs to be transparency and accountability. if the president and his allies have nothing to hide, come forward with the bank accounts, let them review them and and disprove the allegations. otherwise these biden crime family allegations are going to continue, and especially when you look at the sweetheart deal that hunter biden got, when you look at some of the whistleblowers being indicted for working for the same company that hunter biden allegedlied had done business with, it really does paint a public picture of a double standard. aishah: really quickly, gotta talk about the economy. that's what voters care about the motor vehicles tim, this is a big issue for the -- tim, this is a big issue for the president. what does he have to do to turn this around? >> i think voters are going to start to feel the growth that's

happening in the economy. we have 3% inflation. it's lower than it's been in over a year. we're seeing record or job growth, record starting of small businesses, so i think it is something that he's owning. bidenomics, he's talked about it and should going forward. aishah: bill, people don't feel it. >> no, they don't. it's rhetoric versus reality. the white house and the democrats are saying one thing, but across america families are struggling to make basic needs met, you know, whether it's putting the kids through the after-school programs or everything else, working two to three jobs just to make basic needs due to inflation and everything else that's happening. i think the biden white house has a very serious problem. aishah: it's all about how you feel on election day when you go in this vote, bill, tim, appreciate it. as always, have a good weekend. tomorrow on "fox news sunday," check this out, shannon bream is going to sit down with national security council coordinator for strategic communications john kirby. she'll also exclusively talk with arkansas senator tom cotton. you can check your local

listings for time and channel or set your dvr. ♪ griff: israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu now recovering in the hospital after suffering a health scare earlier today. the prime minister's office says that netanyahu is being treated at sheba medical center and is, quote, well and undergoing medical evaluation. kitty logan has the very latest. >> reporter: hi, griff. yes, mr. netanyahu was admitted to hospital after suffering a dizzy spell. we understand that doctors believe he was dehydrated. now, we've seen in the last hour a statement from mr. netanyahu released from the hospital. in it he says he spent yesterday at the sea of galilee in the hot sun which he says, quote, was not a good idea. he says he now feels good and thanks the medical teams who treated him. israel is, of course, currently in the midst of a heat wave.

mr. netanyahu is 73 years old, and he's israel's longest serving leader. he's served multiple terms stretching over 15 years. his current government took office last december, but since then he's suffered some political challenges. on tuesday there were yet more protests about the divisive justice bill, tens of thousands of israelis taking to the streets there in tel aviv, and more protests are expected today. despite the political pressure, mr. netanyahu ooh's thought to generally be in good health. doctors say they will continue to monitor him. back to you, griff with. griff: all right. kitty logan with the latest. thank you. irish ire we are learning more about the new york architect now facing charges in a long island serial killings cold case, a string of unsolved deaths known as the gilgo beach murders has haunted the area for more than ten years. our c.b. cotton is live on long island tracking the very latest in this case. c.b., what do we know this

morning? >> reporter: hi, aishah. well, in some ways police say their work on this case has just begun, and that appears to be the case by the number of officers we're watching go in and out of rex hereman's home beend -- heuermann's home behind me. they had to stay one step ahead of him the entire time so no one else got hurt. he had recently searched for explicit pornography and sex workers according to investigators. >> one of the reasons why we had to take this case down was we learned that the defendant was using these alternate identities and thesal alternate instruments to continue to patronize sex workers. which, of course, made us very nervous. >> reporter: heuermann was arrested thursday night not far from his manhattan office. friday he pleaded not guilty to charges in the killings of three women. he's also the prime suspect in a fourth murder according to prosecutors, and police say they're looking for more evidence that could link

heuermann to more killings. the gilgo beach murders have been an unsolved mystery for years, and there's never been a person of interest or suspect publicly named until now. back in 2010 when police searched for missing 23-year-old han nongilbert, officers -- shannon gilbert, officers discovered the bodies of melissn braynard barnes, 22-year-old megan waterman and 27-year-old amber lynn costello. the women known as escorts. their remains were found within a quarter mile stretch of gilgo beach back in 2010, but in total at least ten sets of remains were found between 2010 and 2011. investors say back in january of last year, heuermann's dna was collected on pizza crust, and that the links him to hair on one of the remains. he was also linked by burner phones allegedly used to arrange meetings with some of the victims. >> whenever the target phones would bounce off a cell tower,

pretty good spirits. we'll bring you more as we get it. well, the senate judiciary committee set to hold a vote on an ethics bill next week as democrat senator dick durbin pushes for supreme court ethics standards after a string of justices have faced scrutiny. for more on this we're joined by former u.s. attorney guy lewis. guy, thank you for taking time. such a fascinating, really, issue because as we all know, we have three independent branches of government. but one of them doesn't get the same amount of scrutiny and oversight as the other two. we are speaking, of course, of the supreme court. now, the chairman of that senate judiciary committee, dick dick durbin, who says he has been pushing for a ethics code that is an enforceable one -- unclear exactly what he means by that, we'll find out when they hold hearings on thursday in the senate, this coming week. but what do you make of this

premise, and what do you anticipate will happen? >> so rest assured this has everything to do with politics. i mean, you've got a conservative majority on the supreme court, 6-3. if we didn't have the abortion decision, the student loan, recent student loan give withaway decision -- giveaway decision and some of the others that the left is up in arms about, you wouldn't have this big push. i personally think it's a badded idea. these -- bad idea. these are, whether you're left or right or middle, these are nine people who go through some of the most intense vetting. think of the kavanaugh hearing. the most intense vetting of any individual in the country who wants to serve in the government. griff: and, guy, we've seen critical reporting and comments. of course, there was folks going

after justice clarence thomas' travels and then more recently sonia sotomayor's speeches and money she's made. but we really don't hear much about that until, as you rightly point out, there's been a lot of politics infused in this specific conservative court. do you think it's warranted, or do you think that it's really just an effort in the case of some on the left to try and weaken some of the conservative justices? >> i think it's a great question, and i think it is merely a product of the times that we're in. i sit back and i think, or well, how in the world would you monitor this? would you set up a panel? would it be a public question and answer session that's televised like the hearings themselves are?

that's become almost impossible. and, frankly, it turns a lot of really good lawyers and public servants away from service knowing that they're going to have to go through that kind of spectacle. i think it's a bad idea. justices, like lawyers, are already under codes of conduct. they take oaths to uphold the constitution. they take oaths when they become a member of a bar of a state to be a lawyer. i think we are where we need to be, and i think this is all just a bunch of hoo by by the politicians. griff: you really raise a great point, guy, and that is if they were to adopt this code of ethics, how in the world would you enforce it? i mean, there is a reason why they are an autonomous body, and we don't want to infringe upon that. i guess just in the last 20 secs we've got, what do you think the senate judiciary committee does? do they try and move forward, or

♪ ♪ griff: lawmakers questioning the pga and liv golf merger in a hearing earlier this week. while pga tour executives defend their controversial deal with the saudi-backed league. the merger is one of saudi arabia's latest investments into international sports. for more on this, joining us is a former federal trade commission chairman and george washington university with law school professor. professor, thank you for joining us. it's very fascinating in this term sports washing is kind of a new one. but we have been watching the saudis dump billions of dollars from everything there from soccer to formula one and, of course, the pga-liv herrerrier. obviously -- merger. obviously, the, you know, view of it is here is the saudi arabia kingdom who, by the way, has never won a gold medal in

anything, but here they are paying rhode island mall doe and the greatest sports stars millions of dollars to put on a good image. cia reports that mbs commissioned to have a journalist killed, "the washington post" journalist, khashoggi. what do you make of what we're seeing in this industry? >> i think a couple of things stand out. one is that with we saw at the hearing that the pga board member, jimmy dunn, said we don't have an agreement yet. we have an agreement to reach an agreement, which means their gong to be -- they're going to be continuing to negotiate the terms of their relationship in a fish bowl. who's watching? well, it's going to be the congress. and you can imagine that the negotiations will have to take account of the concerns that were raised by the committee. the concerns about the terms in the deal, the financing, the future direction of golf in the united states had been crucial factors that affect the way they negotiate.

the other is that they'll be having the department of justice looking over their shoulders as well, concerned that the merger or whatever the terms of the agreement will suppress a form of competition that seemed to be emerging when the alternative network was created. so you usually like to negotiate agreements in quiet in a conference room by yourselves. this negotiation's almost going to be happening in public. griff: professor, you put your finning finger on -- finger on it, i think. here's a little bit of an exchange with senator josh hawley to your point about congress watching. watch this. >> we went to members of congress as we faced the very threat to our existence. >> this is before you agreed to take a billion dollars from the same people that you were lobbying against a year ago? >> senator, we faced a choice. griff: so in this case, obviously, the senator's pointing out just taking the money. but i want to ask you if you think as a law professor if the saudis -- and you also had, by

the way, in washington qatar dumping millions of dollars into some of the big teams in washington, wizards, the nba team, the cavs, the hockey team and then the wnba team, the mystics. is this going to create a problem of ownership when many of these countries like saudis, like qatar have abysmal human rights records? >> i think what you very well may have around the corner is an effort by congress to set conditions on who can purchase a variety of different assets. they've already done that in the field of national security. they've done that in the field of economic security. it would not be with a dramatic departure from their past practice to extend those kinds of controls to the examination of a country's human rights record. so the threat in the background unexpressed in these hearings is

that we, the congress, can adopt measures that subject the transaction to scrutiny based on who the purchaser is and what their intentions are and what their larger track record has been in a rarity of social policy doe e mains. so what could take place here, this could be an event that catalyzes further legislation that imposes controls on who can buy. griff: the saudi minister of tourism says this is all, the investing in all these sports is a part of what the saudis call vision 2030, to modernize their economy, to diversify if things other than oil sales to invest in successful sports teams. are you buying it? >> you can imagine the pressure that's taking place globally to reposition fuel cycles to deal with concerns about climate change, ultimately confront the major fossil fuel producers with the possibility that nations around the world will reduce the

demand for what they produce. so i can understand a longer-term effort to diversify the sources of income for the nation. but in this instance, again, that's not going to deflect attention away from the underlying concern that we heard in that clip from senator hawley which is what are your motivations, what has been your national policy. if we accept this merger, is it an implicit acceptance of national policies and social policies that you carried out in the past. i saw a great reluctance on the part of that panel to agree to the merger on these terms. griff: yeah, great -- well said, great insight. professor, thank you very much for your time. >> thanks for having me on. aishah: inflation now showing signs of cooling, but americans really aren't feeling the effects of that. we're going to get expert analysis on the state of the economy and how it's impacting you at home coming up. ♪ ♪

know, touting this is all bidenomics. >> right. aishah: is he right? >> right. look, aishah, thank you, first of all, for having me here today. what the white house keeps putting how out there in terms of the slowing down and, look, things are going great, i mean, i love kind of doing a great analogy of bidenomics or biden inflation to the following. let's say, you know, your friend gained from 200 #, 250 pounds, right, in a year. that's a pretty big increase, right? and then over the next few months is only gaining a pound a month. they're celebrating, right? look, i'm only gaining a pound to anti, r -- pound a month. but if you look at it, damage has already been done, right? so the only way you can stop actually gaining weight or losing weight is you have to stop eating, right? the same way biden has to stop spending. look, food prices are up 20% from the beginning of his them. so when you just look at the month over month versus a year ago, it looks great.

but when you've got it compared versus the beginning of his term, that's where the average american consumer wallet is thinning out because those are the prices that they're actually paying -- aishah: well, good point. and i want to put the numbers up now. this was the most recent consumer price index that was out, and it shows from uni2023 year-over-year -- june 2023 rent is up. well, this is the flour, sugar, bread and margarine one. eating out is up, car insurance is up, every aspect of your actual day-to-day life, right? if you're a typical middle class american and you're doing your daily things, you've got to pay rent, sometimes you want to go out, take your with girlfriend, boyfriend out, your husband, wife, car maintenance, these kinds of things are -- you've got to do them. >> i mean, everything is up. and that's the whole point that i was kind of trying to make here. it compounds. it's not as though just because it's slowing down that it's a good thing. yeah, it's great. though like i said in my example

there, the damage has already been done, and that is what the american consumer is feeling. not only the american consumer, but small businesses are really getting hit hard. they're still suffering from post-covid, you know, the wage issues, the labor with issues, supply chain issues and now inflation. aishah: talk to me about that because rfk jr. actually did an interview with fox, and he said when he's out on the campaign trail, he isn't just hearing about inflation, he's hearing about high interest rates. not only is it hard to buy a house, but it's hurting small businesses really hard because they can't get the credit they want. >> yeah, or absolutely. if you want a home loan, auto loan, credit cards, all of those have been impacted because of what the fed has had to do because of what biden did in terms of, you know, raising overall costs because of the attack on energy, for example. that is really where it all started. so, but access to credit, first of all, and the ability to get credit for small business

owners, it's pretty much frozen because these small and regional community banks, they're definitely afraid now of giving out because they don't know is it another quarter, another quarter point after that? for every single quarter point that goes up, these regional and community banks, their portfolios get strained. so they're holding back cash from our small business owners and when small business owners can't expand because they can't get credit, they don't hire people. aishah: everyone out there there on the campaign trail is selling their economic plan, and everybody says they're going to fix this. is there anyone out there whose economic plan you've heard or seen that has impressed you or stood out yet? >> three words, drill, baby, drill. i mean, we have -- aishah: energy. we've got to fix that. >> it all started, quite frankly, from day one when president biden attacked domestic energy production. and everything else started going south. and even global domestic -- excuse me, global energy, and if you think about global oil, he

small. thursday night 25-year-old carly russell called 9911, informed the emergency dispatcher she had stopped to check on a toddler that she'd seen walking on the side of interstate 459. she then called a family member who heard carly ask the child if they were okay and then heard carly dream is. scream. >> police officers who were already enroute to the location of the initial 911 call located the female's vehicle as well as some of her belongings at the scene. they were unable to find her or a child in the area, and police have not received any additional calls of someone missing a small child. >> reporter: asked whether an abductor may have used the child as bait, police say they're investigating multiple theories and nothing at this point is off the that table. they're analyzing carly's cell phone for evidence. they also are looking at video from highway traffic cameras. friday afternoon neighbors organized a prayer vigil for carly. the missing woman's parents say they are grateful for the

across the ocean. he basically was saying there's so many instances where, you know, they're trying to appease the chinese, and they'll have to go back and fix or blur something out. this was the first time he's ever seen a movie try to, like, preemptively before that even happen fix something. griff: well, first of all, amazing package, i loved it.
