ron desantis this weekend told voters he does not like the rhetoric going back and forth, the shots between him and former president donald trump. this is ron desantis and iowa. >> i been around these two days the number one people have came up and shook their heads about was donald trump attacking kim reynolds. they could not believe it. these are some people that were plated on supporting him that are not now doing that. that is not the way that we win as republicans. the way that you win as republicans is to unite republicans to win independent and even when some democrats. >> that was him on the campaign trail talking about governor kim reynolds who is popular amongst republicans in iowa. he talked about her there in what trump's said about her in dairy queen when we played the segment where he went on 32nd spot kim reynolds. it is really banking that endorsement or support that the governor said she will not give but also than other donald trump

it doesn't feel like a moment where endorsements do a lot for people even in the context in iowa but it seems desantis is helping. kayleigh: he's hoping for movement, you look at the polls, president trump is ahead by 30 plus points nationally. every poll that i've looked at. how do you get that big inward movement, desantis declared, it did not happen. if you are desantis you have to go one alternative liberal media platforms the way vivek ramaswamy has done with success we saw him take on the big lives and do a great job with it. if you are desantis you have to get some traction. the debate on august 23 on fox news what is hoping for. pete: i think the play with desantis is one step at a time let me try to win iowa. if i win iowa that will create the momentum to move into new hampshire, to move into a state which is how elections are held a state-by-state approach. meanwhile. you talk about movement, not so

scott. he is in this for the long haul. that's very clear, desantis half the amount on hand is kind of troubling. pete: most of that coming from bengali donors desantis does not have a big base of small donors which donald trump has an army of. you have a six or seven year start in the former president that helps but you would hope that you would catch on more to amplify into airwaves if you desantis. will: the first debate on fox news, certain requirements for the candidates. as you saw on your screen, i don't even know how any candidates in the field at this point. as you see them from left to right but in order to make the field, kayleigh you may know the details on the top your head better than i. you have to have a certain level of minimum number of donors coming after poll about 1%. pete: 40000 individual donors. will: take a look at some of the

incentives that people are putting in place. this is fascinating you might want to pay attention at home a quickly it might be a way to make money. they need a minimum number of donors, 40000 is a number. look what they're doing to get to the number. vivek ramaswamy is offering a 10% commission on his campaign race, that could help the gross number not necessarily dollars or donors. francis torres front row tickets for lionel messi's i don't know if it's his debut but coming to enter miami, those are going for the thousands. you only have to donate a dollar. this got my attention doug burgum that. >> doesn't work if you donate a dollar you get a 20-dollar gift card. that is trying to hit a minimum number of donors. kayleigh: i smell desperation. not from vivek here to hit 56000 which is enormous but this is a desperate ploy to get on the debate stage.

pete: perverse incentive. will: you can't donate $100 to get that many gift cards. pete: if you donate one time, you get a 20-dollar gift card. my dad saw that and the like dad, let's donate. i don't think you could do that. if you don't make the stage in a part of the conversation. they are spending money to raise less money to get on. kayleigh: this was the rnc saying we want serious candidates on the stage last time around. it was a network that decided the rules. all 16 candidates were on the stage, the kids table as they called it, the debate before the debate. now the rnc said we want serious candidates and interestingly most of the polling doesn't meet the rnc standards. pete: most of the polls don't meet the rnc standards so there's only a few that you come draw from. will: etiquette six candidates have qualified for the debate at this point. here's what vivek ramaswamy had

pete: back with a fox news alert the intense man had from a murderer who escaped from the jail nine days ago is over. the jail says it is addressing how security failed. ashley straw mile joins us life. >> it took nine days and multiple agencies to track down michael burham who is described as a survival expert. it took a around 4:00 p.m. claiming they had encountered the suspect in the backyard. he told them he was camping but the couple recognized him from the news and told police, law enforcement confirming he was captured at gunpoint in warren county late afternoon yesterday following the tip. >> i am very happy to be standing here in front of you to announce the capture of michael

what comes to mind immediately this was entirely predictable. i stood at the podium under former president trump and we talked in loosely about the effects that closing schools would have other children. why didn't the left listen? >> they don't really care as much about students as they do about the needs of adults. we saw that during the pandemic. unfortunately the teachers unions have way too much control what goes on in the public school systems in the united states of america. they did not listen when parents were asking them to reopen. they did not listen when experts told them exactly what we saw would happen. not only would students lose learning during the pandemic but as you stated after the pandemic students are not gaining as much per year as they were before the pandemic. were not making up lost ground in were not catching up the kids where they need to be in math or reading in the school districts are not using the extra money that they're getting to meet the

needs. kayleigh: how do we get kids to catch up, what is the remedy? >> my remedy has been school choice, i know you been a big supporter of school choice as well. it's time to put the parents in control of where the funds go and hold the school districts accountable for not providing the academic gains the students really need. i think a year-round school is something that we need to consider as a country. as you stated the study says we need four more months of learning but last year when l.a. unified school district was negotiating for extra time to ketchup, they could barely get the unions to agree to ten days of extra learning which would be voluntary for most students and teachers. it is impossible for the school districts to solve this problem. we need to put the resolution in the hands of parents and education entrepreneurs. kayleigh: i can't help but think of a supreme court ruling, two terms ago. it basically said to your point,

school choice if there is not a public school in your area for child to go to it allowed you to use the funds from the state to go to a religious school. is the answer pushing kids more into private schools, religious schools, independent schools. of the public school salvageable at this point? >> what we need to do is break the monopoly, it is not serving our students. it is not about pushing kids into any type of school. it is about creating an education free market. we are doing that and seeing that in states like florida, arizona and others who are passing universal education for scholarship accounts where parents have the ability to choose indirect the funds where they need to go. that will not just push people out of public schools or into private schools but creating education marketplace where parents have many more options in the competition is going to increase quality and access across the board.

will: america's military is facing a recruiting crisis. only 23% of the youth are eligible for service and 2% are high-quality candidates who are likely to serve. our next guest is a recent high school graduate choosing not to follow in his father's footsteps. he grew up inspired by his father's marine corps stories. besides the left has successfully eroded patriotism placing woke ideology over preparedness. aiden joins us now with his father marine corps veteran jason. thank you for being here.

what is it, your father was in the marine corps for 20 years, you love this country, what if using as a young kid with her future in front of you that made you decide military service is not for me. >> there is a couple of reasons in t the way the whole story started, my number one client, caitlin grow, she's kind of like a second mother to me, she asked me the question, that same question and what i told hannah the same what i'm going to tell you, the left has eroded patriotism by protecting and promoting the left and woke ideologies over protecting the interest of the american people. and the people who are likely to serve aren't wanting to serve anymore because of that reason.

later on she also asked me is there anything that would change your mind. i think seeing how the military's leadership has gone down this path of the past few years. there is only one thing that would change my mind. pete: what is that? >> that is the veteran entrepreneur act of 2023 that caitlin rowe and my dad wrote and drafted. it is a bill and he could tell you more about it. pete: it would allow the g.i. bill to be used for starting business if i understand that. as a high school senior you started a social media marketing company so you have options. jason you're involved in the veteran space and you understand the military very well, hammocks has it changed, for those that might say it's not different.

here members in the military testify saying it's not a woke military is a ready military. how has it changed our viewers out there? >> it is changed quite a bit and it is unfortunate. as aiden said recently on anothr fox interview. a lot of today's youth when they hear the word pride they think of the rainbow flag. in our generation and yours and thank you for your service as well. when we heard the word pride we thought of the american flag. now it's a rainbow stripes over the freedom stripes and that's created a lot of hesitation from the people that you want to join the military. the people that are really patriotic, love their country and want to serve, a commander-in-chief who is voicing those same sentiments. it is driving people like aden a way that would be a great recruit.
