is being dominated by culture wars with american voters on both sides of the aisle fearing that their way of life is under attack by their political opponents. let's bring in fox news senior clinical analyst juan williams and it cassie smedley. here's the headline from the street journal. "the 2024 election is a fight over america's way of life." g.o.p. voters see out country corrupted by liberal ideas. ideas articulated as race, gender, other social ideas. and democrats feel as though conservative has he was the political power and rub states and building a supreme court majority to undermine abortion rights and threatened decades of work to broaden equal rights for minority groups. is this election going to be dominated by culture wars and will be the winning ticket? >> if so, it's because it almost always is donated by culture wars because they get people talking and revved up because it's very personal to people.

mike company, this is what we are seeing people see me much pooled the commerce because it is the drawdown of the country right now. yes it will be important in that way. in the primary, it's a differentiator for republican candidates because they're shades of gray and how they approach the issue and in the general, this is the issue most likely to bring independence and those who have become disenfranchised off the sidelines and into the conversation we are really matters because it is personal and frankly, democrats have lost their mind. we are seeing recent research poll that more people consider themselves culturally conservative. it's like a 10-year high because they think democrats have just gone too far. >> john: i'm sure you agree with all of that. >> what strikes me as we are in the midst of a country of tremendous demographic shifts and aging of the population. i think you see that disproportionately on the republican side.

there's a lot of people who feel like there's too much change coming too quickly for them at this point in their lives. they are very concerned about radicalization and people who are doing things in the explosion of gay rights. talking about critical race theory. those things alarm them and i think that cassie's record that will energize the base and it certainly did for president trump and 2016 and 2020 when he had good turnout. on the other hand, it's not always the case that it just flows one way. i think there's lots of people and here i would say suburban women voters are alarmed over abortion rights being taken away at the supreme court. there's a lot of black voters who are very concerned about what has been going on with people saying you can't have books that include discussion of slavery because it hurts white people's feelings. and then of course gay people who say look what's going on in terms of the governors going after in their communities.

>> john: let's listen to what voters say. >> there's a real push in the country to make us hate america, not like america, hi cannot respect each other. >> people are dying in the streets and cities are closing down. you can't work and you can't do anything. everyone has a sense of entitlement. >> everything is totally different and it's just different. >> the economy seems to be getting worse. it's like crime. it's getting worse. speak out not sure that economy and crime are a wedge issue but in every election there's web issues but it seems we so much broader this time around. >> broader but maybe it's because we are hearing more about it. it's coming at us from every direction. social media, and legacy media. the older the base, the older folks, i'm a young mom. i think i'm young. i'm a new mom. as i start again about the decisions of my daughter going to school and what is she going to learn and what conversations is she going to be confronted with that i would rather have at

home. that's why you see glenn youngkin now governor glenn youngkin very successfully tap into people's personal frustrations and concerns about what they saw happening in their children's classrooms and covid. those are not the old base of the republican party. those are disenfranchised people who crossed over or voted for the first time in their lives. that's a big part of the people he should go after. >> john: and glenn youngkin had a big push from terry mcauliffe when he said i don't think parents should be telling the schools what their kit should be learning. >> i would pick up on something. social media. i think we are in an age where social media absolutely intentionally divides people to get clicks and says things to you that are provocative. i think my wife's social media, there are so much crime on her social media i'm like do you ever... it's frightening. it's right. it helps to drive the division because it says the other guy is doing something to you or those

kids are doing something to you or those people are excusing bad behavior. everybody is upset. this is a cranky country. >> john: on the subject of social media, i want to ask both of you about this. the white house won an appeal. the lower court decision that it would have to stay away from contact with social media. the white house seems to think that it is very important to be able to contact the social media companies and say we don't think that this content is appropriate. you should take it down. is that with this administration should be doing? >> this is a missed opportunity for the administration to say that's all right we weren't doing anything wrong in the first place. but instead of running to find a judge that will put a hold on this because there were necessary exceptions made. if homeland security issue or health issues so it did not feel like this was necessary. instead it opens the floodgates again for them to suppress free speech which a majority of americans and several polls feel is happening on social media. >> john: quick final thought.

what is the white house and get so important to metal in this? >> it's not any threat to our freedom of speech or any social debate to say to somebody the russians have a new wave of disinformation intended to divide, to anger us. we know about them from fbi cia saying when it comes to election time, these people intentionally -- the bots and the lake fee disinformation because they want to hurt the american democratic process. the government has a legitimate role in saying we know about bad guys, bad actors, using social media against. >> john: that's fine but when the fbi's prime in places like facebook and twitter to say watch out for misinformation, the hunter biden laptop story breaks and they say this is what the f guy. that's an issue that could have affected the election. >> it could have but there was a real disinformation. misinformation. being used by governments.

>> that's a small percentage of the conversation and it's not what we're talking about. when you have parents that are being classified as potentially domestic terrorists and having their free speech put on ice by the administration that does not like their opinion on the matter, that's the matter. >> social media come these are some of the most affluent and powerful in the country today and if they saw the government over acting, we would be on their side and sang government stop. >> john: we will see if that is the case because it's only going to ramp up. good to see you folks. thank you. >> sandra: thank you john. fox news alert here as we take a look at this train derailment. a freight train derailment that happened in southeast pennsylvania earlier today. precautionary evacuations in the area but officials are saying no injuries have been reported. there is no known hazard at this point. it was a 40 car csx train operated by norfolk southern. it derailed around 5:00 in the morning and at least 15 cars

went off the tracks. 12 homes nearby were evacuated and those people have been allowed to return to their homes. that happened around 9:30 this morning. the contents of the cars in question, silicon pellets leaked from at least one train car we are told. but they pose no risk to the public. among the other derailed cars was a liquid fertilizer, another had dry cleaning agent in it, another had a metal degreasing solvent, a couple of the cars were empty. the cause of the derailment is under investigation. no concern to the public at this time but obviously that is still under investigation. these pictures just into our newsroom. meanwhile, it has become far too common for york city residents to witness violent individuals roaming the subways and streets including this knife wielding man seen stocking a group of tourists in newark's times square last week. up next, the photographer who captured that alarming moment. >> john: and one showbiz

the agencies have provided a motive. here's what look like i'm provoked. 7-year-old mohammed barakat opens fire on three officers. he was parked nearby at a bank. police say barakat pulled out a rifle and began shooting. >> i saw lots of blood. i saw officers trying to do cpr. i saw a guy getting dragged. i'm assuming it was a suspect, the shooter. they didn't care for him a lot from honest. >> the officers seen here, the last one zac robinson, he rolled up in the shooting was in progress and he killed the gunman. the two in the middle, dotas and speak 24 are in stable condition but 23-year-old rookie jake wallin died. just three months on the job. wallin was previously applied with the national guard in afghanistan and iraq.
