that usually signifies an indictment is coming to give him fair notice. what are the charges that he faces? he talked about getting that letter on a sunday night. how this is a witch-hunt and all about elections interference and weaponization of law enforcement. listen. >> i got the letter on sunday night, think of it. i don't think they have ever sent a letter on sunday night. and they were rushed because they want to interfere. it's never been done like this in the history of our country and it's a disgrace. what's happening to our country, whether it's t borders or elections or kinds of things like this where the doj has become a weapon for the democrats an absolute weapon it. seems that every time my polls -- you know, we are leading by a lot. we are leading in a lot by place called iowa, a lot. and frighten people, but they don't frighten us, because we are going to make america great again. >> steve: one of the other things that president trump said on truth social regarding this target letter is he had, as of sunday, four days to appear before the grand jury. so if the president wanted to go and talk to the grand jury that jack smith has assembled, he's got -- if the meter started on sunday, probably until tomorrow or the next day as well. >> ainsley: does he have a choice? does he have to go in front of the grand jury? >> steve: absolutely not. that he was going to be his choice. apparently, according to sources who have spoken to abc, the letter mentions three federal statutes. what it is alleged, probably will be that jack smith says the president, former president committed conspiracy to defraud the united states. deprivation of rights under color of law as one statute is known, and witness tampering. so, no other details in the letter does not say whether

trump may have actually violated the statutes but it does talk about those three laws. and one other thing about the target letter, the former president, as soon as it came out, started fundraising off it. >> brian: so $10 million was made off the alvin bragg indictment. $6 million after the jack smith mar-a-lago indictment. how much will he make now? he is already the frontrunner in money in the polls, even though new hampshire is tightening a little bit. iowa, which he didn't win in 2016, he has got a substantial lead. i thought ari fleischer had the best point. he said, listen, if you think that it is a problem or when you protest an election and you think an election is illegitimate, then you really have a problem with sherrod brown of ohio and cory booker of new jersey he said stacey abrams is a legitimate governor of georgia. he said you should have a huge problem with hakeem jeffries because he says that donald trump was not a legitimate winner of the 2016 election. and i don't think hillary clinton, outside the consolation

call ever said that donald trump legitimately won the election. of the question is what was done behind the scenes? we watched those january 6th hearings. because we did this show. it was -- it was a show. it was not a trial. it was -- and you saw this. they are going to assess that he plotted and planned and choreographed the january 6th overturning the election and storming of the capitol. even the january 6th committee didn't say that so jack smith, again, has got to say to himself this is going to be worth it, to go ahead and prosecute him on january 6th and mar-a-lago. but the other drama took place in florida where both sides were saying their case about delaying the mar-a-lago documents. in that case jack smith said i want to see this in december. the defense told aileen cannon appointed by donald trump i don't want to see you in september. we are not ready for it. we haven't 150e8d this document yet. i will never be ready for it. so this election is coming up in

association, they are really pushing this. they are introducing books that cover these topics. they are releasing tool kits about sexual orientation and gender identity for their teachers. they did that on june 7th. they are recommending that our teachers teach this at an early age. what are the dangers there? >> well, with any subject matter that's difficult or complicated, whether it's sex or death or gender or first it's usually better if parents teach their children these things. and the rule is, really, that you wait for the child to show interest or curiosity and ask questions. >> ainsley: right. >> it means they are more developmentally ready even then you wait succinctly and wait for more questions. the way they are teaching it is teaching indoctrinating way. >> >> ainsley: we hear this in new york city. it's a very as you know liberal city. out of the several people i know

that is going through this as families with their children, two out of probably the five, their children said they wanted to be a different sex and then years later, a few years later, they want to go back to their original sex. how common is that? >> you know, children are developing. it means that there is a kind of volatility in terms of -- and a fluidity in terms of their identity. so the idea that their identity is fixed at such a young age. even when it comes to early adolescents. kids 11 years old they are allowing to take pursuant blockers. those kids' identity is still quite fluid and it could change. and so you are making permanent body changes to-that carry risks to children that are really just very young and whose personalities are really still quite unformed. >> ainsley: it's definitely a conversation we are going to continue to have as a country. some people are completely against it. some parents i have heard the argument we don't want our children to feel isolated and bullied and we don't want our children to commit suicide and

not be welcomed so we are having open conversations in our house. some are saying it's just too young and down in florida teachers are not allowed to discuss this before fifth grade. so, we all have different opinions on it. it's a tough topic, right? >> we have to be able to be council passionate for individual children. i think the idea is how much do we want to expose the majority of children to many of these ideas in detail. i think you can explain to children that children, individual children are struggling and, you know, are wanting to call themselves sue instead of jack and that's their nickname. i think there is ways to do it compassionately without necessarily overwhelming children. as i said, even when children come to you with difficult subject matter, you're only answering them very succinctly and to the questions that they ask. you are not really providing them with more information than they need and that's really

says hey, i got a target letter. i'm going to be indicted again. what do you think this means? does this surprise you? >> no. it didn't surprise me because we have had so many reports saying that jack smith wasn't done yet. and this is actually, if you think about it, what they have been gunning for him from the start, ever since january 6th happened and that second impeachment happened. we know he has received a lot of evidence and testimony on this particular subject. and now it looks as though he is going to move ahead. >> brian: what do you think it means for the race? >> well, i think one question is going to be whether or not this judge in the case moves the case beyond the election. you know, we're going to have that big hearing here soon, and the trump team has already asked that they move this beyond the election. they're going to do everything they can to put it aside. but now we're going to have these additional charges. do they get moved up? does he have the same grounds by which he can ask to have it be delayed to get ready? we don't know. >> brian: what's interesting is, too, he dominates the news

cycle. indictment is never good. but, everybody is now asked about donald trump. >> right. >> brian: ron desantis in an interview on another network gets interrupted because of donald trump target letter. i'm not sure that wasn't timed. let's talk about your book. it's excellent. it's called the "the biden malaise" now on sale. talks about joe biden and how similar his run is to jimmy carter who famously had the malaise speech. we didn't have the word but that's the tone. >> this is fun it. makes a comparison between the biden years and carter years. outwardly so many similarities, inflation, crime, gas prices, foreign policy debacles. but it makes a case that when you really dig into these two guys, it's very different and unfair comparison to jimmy carter. >> brian: who was a nuclear scientist and a veteran. >> and who inherited a lot of problems and didn't necessarily always know what he was doing. whereas biden inherited a pretty good hand, an economy that was rolling back from covid, you

know, a lot of other advantages. and low gas prices, low inflation. he also had lived through the carter years. so he knew what mistakes not to make. and so the book is making the distinction between the two, between sort of incompetence n. and a president that meant well and didn't know what he was doing and a president who very deliberately did what he did. >> brian: if it wasn't for jimmy carter you don't get ronald reagan. a lot of people are saying what's next is the past prologue? >> the book also makes the case that this is a big moment for both parties. the backlash to jimmy carter and ronald reagan changed electoral politics in america for a generation. there's a backlash building to joe biden as well and these policies he has. will the republican party realize that? can they move beyond some of the drama and really focus on biden's record? >> interesting. but the one similarity which is kind of a reach but not really is rfk is challenging a sitting
