murphy is on it and they throw it away. >> bill: he booted it. the carroll drives the run home. sean murphy after the bad throw and arizona the lead and d-backs win it 16/13. see you at 1:00. >> sandra: we'll cover it. thanks for having me, "the faulkner focus" is next. >> harris: we begin with a fox news alert. israel's president is set to address both chambers of our congress at any moment now. this is a live look inside the chamber now on capitol hill. it is just minutes away. we'll take you there as soon as it starts. the back drop to this comes with complete aggression, if you will, from the most far left members of the democrats, so-called squad members. even other democrats now have
8:01 am
voted against supporting america's bond with our closest ally, israel in the middle east. some of them now are boycotting the president's remarks today. they won't be there for president herzog. we haven't seen the president of israel address a joint meeting of congress in many, many years. i'm harris faulkner and you are in "the faulkner focus." isaac herzog's speech marks the 75th anniversary of israel's statehood and comes as democrats are divided over support for this nation. nine progressive democrats who i just mentioned including members of the squad, voted against the pro israel measure which ultimately passed overwhelmingly. the resolution and reaction to congresswoman jayapal calling israel a racist state affirms that israel is not a racist state and rejects all forms of
8:02 am
anti-semitism and xenophobia. congress's only member of palestinian descent. tlaib, a squad member tore into israel. >> we're reaffirming congress support for apartheid. women of color who dare to speak, about truth, about oppression, is just not what we should be doing here in congress. let's just get the record straight here, israel is an apartheid state. to assert otherwise, mr. speaker, in the face of this just body of evidence is an attempt to deny the reality and to normalize violence of apartheid. >> harris: the word squad is not right for them. haters more appropriate. meanwhile, congresswoman jayapal drew a lot of backlash even from many of her own fellow democrats, the one-time chair of the progressive caucus apologized because she had to walk her words back.
8:03 am
she suggested a double standard in the criticism. here is what she said in an interview. a quote. it's not right to call out progressives but then not recognize that most of us that get called out are women, black, brown, immigrant. you cannot -- you just can't skip over that. hate knows no color, however. rich edson has more from the white house. rich. >> good morning, harris, congresswoman jayapal's comment led to the voice in congress, a resounding show of support for israel and prompted a number of democrats and white house to reaffirm their support for israel. >> we said we're glad she apologized. you have an administration who put forth a comprehensive plan to counter anti-semitism. something we have not seen in this way from any other administration. that shows the president's commitment to this issue. we'll move on. >> with israeli president herzog
8:04 am
about to address congress here and yesterday at the white house, republicans voted yoon an unanimously to affirm that resolution. >> it is deeply disturbing and concerning to me that some in this body have such a profound misunderstanding of israel and israeli society. the previous government in israel had arab parties and arab ministers serving in the coalition government. what a fantastic achievement for democracy. >> several progressives, including omar, ocasio-cortez and others are boycotting this speech. harris. >> harris: thank you for getting us started with that. in "focus" now joey jones, retired u.s. marine bomb technician, author of "unbroken bonds of battle." and a fox
8:05 am
news contributor. joey, great to have you. when you fought for this nation, you fought for all of us and you fought alongside of people from every train of thought, political view, culture, race, everybody. this is america. what are we watching here? >> you have to understand, harris, they say the same thing about our own country. they say the same thing about the united states. this is their platform. if they can't be a victim in this they have nothing else to stand on and so why would they back down and support israel today? why would they not continue what got them in office and what gets them fundraising dollars as long as it is rewarded by voters or donors they'll keep doing it. there is only room for a handful. there isn't enough appetite in america for half the democrat party to be this way. that's exactly where their platform lands. it lands in identity politics
8:06 am
and dividing people and lands in calling it out in the most audacious way any chance they get. that's what we are talking about it now and what gets the headlines and raises the money. >> harris: so true. i want to add this in. a new op-ed with the headline. hatred of israel. some of what you are talking about, joey, it reads in part, this is a quote, one should not pretend to believe that hatred of israel is a minority belief in the democratic party. it has, rather, become normal and is growing in the party's heap of fertilizing left wing extremism as democrats become more extreme, this will hurt not just israel but the united states, too. go deeper. >> you know, it's one thing if it is an educated look back at history and taking objection to the establishment of the country or the policies of the government. but they make overarching words that really are hateful and hurtful toward anyone associated
8:07 am
with israel to include jewish people in this country. that's the part when they play in the gray area it just comes across as hatred and racism in its own right. i think that's much different. i think everyone in congress has the opportunity to criticize policies both our policies towards israel or israel's policies toward the palestinian people. but when you say israel is racist and an apartheid state you are attacking the idea of israel and hurtful towards people. >> harris: a warm reception from president herzog. the president made this trip even more central and the fact that he, the first in decades, to address as president from israel to address this joint meeting is critical. the timing of it couldn't be more important with what our president has said. your thoughts about president biden this week and calling that nation of israel extreme. >> i think if you want to draw a

stark contrast about a is what to happen in 2024. look what president trump did in creating the abraham accords to make things for peaceful and look at where president biden is. every diplomatic solution he thinks he is pursuing creates more problems. >> harris: joey, we're going to dip in in a moment. the mother of the u.s. soldier detained in north korea is speaking out saying she cannot imagine her son doing anything like what they say he has done. the pentagon says private second class travis king crossed into the north willfully and was supposed to return to the u.s. to face disciplinary action for disobeying orders. instead, he left from the airport and joined a tour of the demilitarized zone, the buffer between north and south korea. crossed the border into north korea. north korean officials took him

into custody. new zealand tourist saw it happen. >> something i noticed a guy running full gas towards the north korea side. he have was getting -- but he just didn't stop and he kept going and then the u.s. soldiers chased after him and yelled in the building on the south korea side. >> harris: north korea has raised tensions today. the nation fired two missiles into the sea as the u.s. nuclear submarine docked in south korea was there in the area. the south korean country calling it a major provocation. so far the north has not responded to the u.s. outreach over travis king. defense secretary austin says he is concerned for king's welfare.
8:10 am
j what is your take on all of this? >> the military is saying he defected to escape punishment. he could have picked 100 other places to go other than north korea to seek asylum. i hope that's not the case but it sounds plausible. i don't know how hard we work to get someone who defected and ran away from his brothers and sisters on the front lines. >> harris: we'll pick up where we started here and go to capitol hill now where the president of israel is speaking to a joint meeting of congress. it is history making. joey jones, thank you for being with me. let's watch together. >> fought in the israeli military and fell in the battle for israel's independence just weeks before their wedding. although decades have gone by and she rebuilt her life, the cracks in her heart remained. that moment in which i learned
8:11 am
of the life he gave for the state of israel spoke to the very core of the bond forged between the people of the united states and the people of israel. how the nations we built overcame loss, how deeply our stories compliment each others, how far we have all come together. speaker mccarthy, i thank you for hosting this festive joint session of congress celebrating the first 75 years of israel's independence. just a few weeks ago, during your first trip abroad as speaker, you honored the israeli people by addressing us in jerusalem, the capital of the state of israel and jewish people. your sincere expression of friendship on behalf of the united states of america truly resonated with the israelis. thank you.
8:12 am
[applause] vice president harris, it is such a great pleasure to see you again. i vividly recall hosting you a few years back. your stirring remarks at the israeli embassy a few weeks ago reflect both you and president biden's decade long iron clad friendship with israel. special thanks go to former speaker nancy pelosi, who first invited me less than a year ago, together with senator chuck schumer. [applause] and special thanks to dear friends, senate minority leader,
8:13 am
senator mitch mcconnell and house minority leader, congressman hakeem jeffries, for this bipartisan, by cam rail invitation and the escort committee for greeting me so beautifully. [applause] mr. speaker, dear friend, in jewish weddings a glass is placed on the ground intentionally stomped on. this ritual he volkswagen the destruction of our temple in jerusalem 2,000 years ago. only after the glass is open can the celebration truly begin. amidst the most joyous occasions in the lives of two individuals who have come together to build something whole, we recall what was once broken in our nation.
8:14 am
thus the bitter blends with the sweet. today the hebrew calendar points to the first day of the month of -- in jewish tradition this is a somber period in which we mourn the loss of our sovereignty. jewish communities all over the world lament the beginning of our national exile for throughout two millennia we express the connection to our ancestral homeland, longing to return home and regain our independence. yet today at this moment in my people's history, gathering on capitol hill to celebrate 75 years of israeli independence with our greatest partner and friend, the united states of america, my soul is overflowing with pride and joy. [applause]

the people of israel, the people of israel are grateful to no end for the ancient promise fulfilled and for the friendship we have forged. in 1949, the president of the united states of america, harry s. truman, met with the chief rabbi of the newly established state of israel. my grandfather, in the oval office. this was just a few years after each of them pleaded and campaigned for the rescue of europe's jews being slaughtered
8:16 am
in the holocaust by the nazis. in speaking to president truman, rabbi herzog thanked him for being the first world leader to officially recognize the state of israel 11 minutes after its foundation. [applause] >> harris: look at that. such important history we are getting from the president of israel now. he is talking about his familial history, who includes his father who was a leader of the nation and the back drop of all of that are the american members, so-called squad who i call haters after their behavior this week towards jew is and boycotting this meeting of congress. israel stands with us even with that going on. even with the video of the president yesterday. i don't know if you watched the
8:17 am
whole 15 minutes or what you saw. i watched it on c span. he nearly fell asleep at one point looking down at his notes. even with all that, we are with them and they are with us. i want to bring back joey jones, retired u.s. marine bomb tech, author of a book of heroism, patriotism and friendship and fox news contributor. i want to talk with you right now about our relationship with israel and how critical this moment is and how worthy it is of us to see, of our time to see and be reminded of our bond with israel. >> yeah, i think the best way to put it is there is no israel today as it exists without the sacrifices of the united states. likewise there is no united states as strong as it is without the faith and patriotism of the jewish people within it that built israel. even though we have a constitution that says
8:18 am
religious edicts. it acknowledges faith and judaism and what israel represents around the world is largely felt here in this country, much like the vatican, catholicism and christianity. we understand that religious persecution isn't something that is allowed or that we won't stand up and fight for. we talk about things like anti-semitism but we don't talk about themes like patriotism and faith and how coming to this country as a refugee is a positive and amazing thing, not a thing to start throwing arrows at other people already within this country. i've never been to israel. i am not jewish. i can't speak at length or incredibly educated on faith or country. i can tell you inside this country we don't tolerate anti-semitism for a reason. we also don't tolerate the idea of standing and throwing arrows at our allies knowing it only
8:19 am
causes division. the events of this week and some of the members of congress what they had to say, you know, comes back to what my mom said. you can say anything if you say it the right way. if you say it in a way that brings people in, not just pushes them away. that's the problem. they aren't trying to take -- they aren't trying to take issue with certain policies but trying to take issue with the idea and existence of a jewish state. that's what is scary about it. >> harris: an important conversation is happening now between the president of israel and our united congress. i say that bipartisan for the most part in that chamber today. great to have you in "focus" as the breaking news is coming together. thank you. >> thank you, harris. >> harris: there is more breaking this hour. two i.r.s. whistleblowers will testify to the house oversight committee in just about two hours. the witnesses, who republicans
8:20 am
call the a-team include an i.r.s. agent gary shapley and whistleblower mr. x publicly identified for first time. republicans look to expose how the justice department's hunter biden investigation was mishandled. manipulated and preferential. >> today is a huge turning point for us because we have two of the most knowledgeable people in america within the i.r.s. who understand international tax laws. we don't know what they did to receive this money. we don't think they paid a penny of taxes on it. and we're concerned that what they did to receive the money pertains to decisions that joe biden made. >> who are you going to believe? the biden/garland justice department that catholics were extremist and censored people or the two whistleblowers whose testimony has not changed and credibility is unimpeachable. >> harris: republicans revealing an f.b.i. agent detailed how he
8:21 am
was stonewalled, kept from talking to hunter biden during the investigation. another one was told not to speak to the oversight committee one day before a scheduled deposition. the "new york post" editorial board writes this. yes, hunter biden got special f.b.i. treatment. it is now confirmed. doug collins, former republican congressman of georgia and former judiciary committee ranking member is with me now. lay this out as we are about to learn about the a-team and the importance of it. >> it goes to the heart of this whole issue that we've been saying on many others the last few years about the problems at d.o.j. and how their preferential treatment or however you want to put it. good to be a biden with this d.o.j. with these whistleblowers coming forward and you are now seeing what is very good in the process. it has been stonewalling at the highest levels from chris wray to merrick garland and others.
8:22 am
now you see the rank and file saying we're tired of our good names being drug through the mud because of your political decisions and we'll start talking about it. this will be an outward moment for the public to see what's going on. be able to make their own decisions about it and i think it will move the narrative where the white house can't ignore what's happened with hunter biden and can't ignore the fact that joe biden said he had no idea what was going on. representative comer made a great point that really baffled mmef from the f.b.i. perspective. they haven't followed up on this and stonewalled. then they had this much money coming in and these transaction reports from the treasury and nobody followed up to see if anybody paid taxes on it? it is amazing. >> harris: that is incredible, actually. when you start to look at what was going in and what is going out to the i.r.s. no wonder you have whistleblowers from that

agency. not that long ago on capitol hill. what's the stomach among democrats that you know of in office right now for doing what they need to do once the facts start to come out? >> i think many of them are concerned. i think this is -- a lot of them have gone along the party line and you see it a lot on both sides whether republican or democrat president. when the facts start lining up. let's go back again without drawing a direct correlation but an appropriate one. you go back to nixon and some other, clinton and others when the lineup starts coming out and saying this is what happened. merrick garland needs very concerned. chris wray and biden and others who perpetrated the fact they knew nothing about it. behind the scenes all of a sudden when the camera may not be rolling oh lord, when will the next shoe drop. something that sticks and actually is going to force me to decide that hey, joe biden and his family have been doing this
8:24 am
for years, what will i have to -- i think there is concern among democrats now at what is coming out and how much is coming out. it is hard to defend the way they treated donald trump and others and the way they treated joe biden and hunter biden. >> harris: we'll cover every second of it today later this afternoon at 1:00 p.m. eastern. that all kicks off on the hill and we'll learn about that unidentified whistleblower until this point. thank you for all of your remarks and being with me. good to see you. former president trump sent a very clear message at a fox news town hall last night. the first time we got to see him react after he was informed he is, in fact, the target of the special counsel's january 6th investigation. >> i don't think they've ever sent a letter sunday night. they are in a rush. it's election interference. never been done like this in the history of our country and a disgrace. what's happening to our country, borders, elections, or kinds of

things like this where the d.o.j. has become a weapon for the democrats. an absolute weapon. >> harris: some legal experts automatically coming to the former president's defense. one tweeted this makes no sense. senator cruz tweeted the d.o.j. has turned our institutions into enforcers for the biden administration's partisan priorities. the criminal probe the latest in the growing list of actions against the former president. aishah hosni with her report now. >> good morning to you. on the campaign trail, this is not what the gop candidates want to be talking about but it is dominating the trail right now. last night in new hampshire right before taking the stage for his own town hall tim scott responded to the trump news. he says democrats are hunting republicans. >> it is embarrassing as the most powerful country anywhere,

to see the weaponization of our department of justice against political opponents. it's embarrassing. >> florida governor ron desantis, who was really hoping for a campaign reset in the first in the south state of south carolina yesterday, instead spent the entire day defending trump in every interview. >> when you are going after somebody on the other side of the political spectrum, if you are stretching statutes to try to criminalize maybe political disagreements, that is wrong. >> not everyone fighting for the nomination has been as sympathetic. nikki haley showing frustration being taken over by law firms and legal fees. he sees a bump in polling after news of an investigation, no doubt all the candidates, harris, will be watching those numbers closely in the coming days. >> harris: thank you very much. florida governor ron desantis

trying to close in on former president trump in a key early primary state. we'll take a look at that. there are concerns about desantis's campaign and he is firing back on that. plus how a third party run could shake up the entire race for the white house, mostly for the democrats. >> third parties have effects at the end that we cannot predict but we'll have, i think, a chance for a third party in 2024 that could have a big impact on the outcome of the election one way or the other. >> harris: one name, senator joe manchin. when democrats seem to have a lot more to lose in this scenario. our political panel next. ♪

>> harris: could the republican race for president be tightening up on the republican side in the early primary state of new hampshire? a new poll out of new hampshire shows former president trump with 37%, still 14% ahead of florida governor ron desantis and the rest of the pack. but in april trump held a little larger lead of 20%. over desantis and all of them. technically not everybody was in the race then. new hampshire numbers of today, though, are not wiping away concerns about the desantis campaign on the national level. and he has a lot to say about that. watch. >> republican voters see you as less and less electable. what do you say to that analysis? >> i don't think it's true. the proof is in the pudding. we're leading a big movement for parents rights, parents involved in education, school choice, you have to get people to come out in the middle of january in iowa to caucus for you. that's not going to make the same type of splash as if you

were trying to run as nationally and do other things. we've been making really good progress. >> harris: you will see a press now from all of these candidates because what they really want to do is get on that debate stage, some of them haven't reached that 1% threshold. you will see many of them put the pressure on now. it is the first time. the first gop debate on fox of this election series. right now former president donald trump and five rivals are one poll away from qualifying for the debate stage. cassie smutly, vice president, and former executive director of america rising pac and kevin walling. getting down to the nitty-gritty before they step up and america gets to see them take each other on. what should we be looking for now? what pops for you? >> i think the new hampshire

nuances between not just their positions but how they would fight for the american people. if donald trump is doing as well as the polls seem to indicate and he seems to indicate, then why not go there and really cement why he is the best candidate to represent republicans in the general? i think the american voters would love to see the full slate of candidates who qualify on the stage. >> harris: it has been a while since we saw an election season that doesn't have his voice in it on a debate stage. he is pop your corn material right there. some argue, on the other side. this will require a neutrality strategist hat you wear so well. the same argument could be made about president biden not wanting to debate bobby kennedy and marian wilson. they make up a third of popularity on that side of the ticket. why get in and make a mistake?
8:37 am
in defense of donald trump, why get into the primary debate and make a mistake or not do what you want to do? >> it is an interesting point. why open yourself up to attacks? you've seen chris christie since he announced center his whole campaign trying to tear down donald trump. he is likely to qualify for that debate in new hampshire. but i think the former president should debate his rivals for this. the interesting thing in that polling not necessarily is the drop i see the little drop i see with donald trump standing but the rise of tim scott, who is a candidate that i'm actually as a democrat most afraid of. this is a guy who has won in the deep south, has worked with democrats in the past, has a strong record to run on, can refocus that compassionate conservatism we saw from george w. bush in the 2000s and he is at 8% in a state like new hampshire, overwhelmingly white.
8:38 am
he is doing very well in iowa as well. i credit some of his appearances with sean hannity on the town halls and his pac announced a $40 million investment in the early state. that's what i'm most afray of frayed of as a democrat. >> harris: that just broke this morning. kevin, in terms of the money coming in desantis raised more than donald trump but he is bleeding cash. what happens in the campaigns? what do they spend money on? the 40 million for tim scott makes a huge impact. >> a huge impact. this will be the first election we've seen where primary candidates had the large support of super pacs, you see the super pac behind ron desantis spending a lot of money. in fact, hiring field staff for the first time. that's usually a function of the hard side of the campaign. now on the ie side in terms of coordination. this will have a major effect in

not to go. cnn is getting flak for obsessing over imagery of special counsel jack smith picking up a sandwich at subway. >> even jack smith can't resist a $5 foot long. what is important is the imagery. they wanted us to see him and that image different from what we saw in the former president's post which is that he is a deranged individual. >> jack smith going to subway is a message to donald trump. he tries to intimidate people and bully people. he tries to scare you away. it was jack smith with no words, a simple $5 sub saying i'm not going anywhere. >> harris: oh my goodness. i will fight you off and i'm coming with my sandwich. anyway, that deranged reference they were just talking about was about former president trump on truth social when he first posted the words deranged jack smith. while announcing he had gotten a letter from the special counsel

he is the target of the january 6th investigation. i'm mad and coming at you with a sandwich, tomi. >> it is so hard to take these other cable networks seriously when they spend so much time talking about how a sandwich makes you look strong or it puts you in a different light than the former president. again, if eating a subway sandwich makes him look strong, how come they have spent so long criticizing donald trump every time he enters a fast food restaurant or eats mcdonalds or talks about diet coke. they can't have their cake and subway sandwich and eat it, too. it goes to show anybody eating seemingly anti-trump any facet the media adores, love and pour over and they are making jack smith their anti-hero because he is eating a subway sandwich and not sure if it was a six inch or foot long. the verdict is out. i expect breaking news at cnn at any moment to clarify.
