[laughter] >> laura: oh my gosh. did they go to the kamala harris school of laughing? don't you miss nancy as speaker? well, biden doesn't because he think she still is. >> she is -- she is going to be my speaker her whole life i think my whole life and i want to thank nancy. >> there is nancy. >> well, she is hiding behind that big guy. >> laura: seriously, do you think biden is obvious in rapid decline the democrats know they either need some astonishing good luck in 2024 or extra help from their friends? and they think they found both. now, check out the republican primary calendar it's kind of the usual stuff. the iowa caucuses, january 15th, the new hampshire primary, tentatively on the 23rd, then nevada's on february 6th. followed by south carolina on the 24th and then the big show super tuesday on march 5th where 15 states vote on the same day. but, wait.

about three weeks later, on march 25th, the campaign halts for donald trump because that's when prosecutors working with new york d.a. alvin bragg will be beginning opening argue. s in the hush money case. charging 34 farcical felony counts of falsifying business records. >> these are felony crimes in new york state. no matter who you are # a few months have passed trump will have to stop his campaign again on may 20th this time to defend himself in the federal criminal court from charges stemming from his classified documents. lord knows how long this is

going to take. how many witnesses are going to be called. how many pre-trial motions are going to be filed. and by the way, this isn't even accounting for what looks like a trump indictment coming out of fulton county, georgia. , which by the way, the indictment may be handed down next month. a report today that the president could face racketeering charges for alleged election interference. now, again, who knows when that trial would take place the summer of 2024 right before the convention. talk about election interference, absurd. now, the regime media is going to cover all of this 24/7 with kind of an o.j. simpson style tabloid commentary after all it's historic. now, during these visitth riveting legal drawms why would biden, the president, need to answer for his record? or campaign much at all for that matter? we know how biden's cheering section is going to react. >> there has never been the kind of rampant criminality and

insanity that we saw in the trump presidency. >> republicans are going to be dealing with a guy that has four or five indictments against him. >> is trump going to all of a sudden be come up with a new policy that's going to all of a sudden take those suburban voters in philadelphia and make them forget january 6th and make them forget the possible four indictments. every trend is starting to percolate in that direction that is pro-biden. >> laura: it's obvious that the democrats think the trials once underway are going it wound trump. now, that may be a fool's projection. but, nevertheless, they have done their own work here and they think biden's best chance of winning will be if trump is the g.o.p. nominee. a new monmouth poll they hope is an accurate reflection of voter sentiment with trump upside down 63-36 unfavorable to favorable. okay, but where is biden's numbers? well, that's nothing to write home about if you can belief this poll. 55% disapprove of his job performances in the cnbc poll

and on the economy, the number one issue on voters' minds he has a lame 37% approval rating. and to me that seems way too high. now, can you imagine where biden's numbers would be if the press actually reported on then vice president's alleged solicitation of $10 million in bribes from the burisma ceo or if they covered the rank corruption at the biden doj or fbi. or if they really dug into biden's retention of classified documents near the corvette? or were the slightest bit curious about who left the cocaine at the white house? now, biden would be so low in the polls that democrats would force him off the ticket. but if all else fails, if the endless indictments of trump don't do the job,democrats could have another trick up their sleeve. and charlie the cia is involved. remember, they are only here to protect the vote, of course. >> how are you feeling about election security in 2024.

>> something we take very seriously. i think the interagency cooperation on those issues is a lot stronger than it was in 2016. >> are you seeing like red warning lights though the way in hindsight we should have before 2016? >> we are trying to anticipate a lot of those concerns right now so we don't get to the point of, you know, red warning lights. >> what is the cia's role of the greatest threat to our security is our domestic politics? >> we have tried to do is organize ourselves in a way where we can contribute to that better interagency coordination. >> laura: interagency coordination? doesn't the cia director by the way have more important things to do than go to the aspen institute. or does he mean interagency coordination to prevent donald trump or anyone who thinks like him from becoming president? given what the fbi and the intel community did with the mueller investigation, you can see why folks would wonder about that. now, enter ron desantis. it's no secret that the florida

governor has been struggling. trailing trump by big margins and burning through cash. the media's pig pile on trump has become a drum beat desantis as well prompting his campaign to argue that this is because the democrats see him as a greater threat for biden to face. nevertheless, it's clear that if desantis has a chance, he has to reverse perception. the miami herald is reporting that his support among voters with a college degree, we are talking about desantis here who are key to winning his nomination they are leaving his campaign in droves from 51% in support in february to 29% support now. that's a 22 point decline. the largest drop in a recent quinnipiac survey. but as an investigation into, i don't know, bud light's ties to trans activist dylan mull lean the way to stem that lead of college educated voters? well, that's what desantis announced yesterday. >> at the end of the day, there has got to be penalties for when you put business aside to focus

on your social agenda at the expense of hard-working people. >> laura: well, it's friday so what the heck? i'm going to offer my free advice to both trump and distance. both will probably be unhappy but there you have it. >> as someone who has covered seven presidential campaigns and worked for president reagan, i think it's time that both of you candidates remember a few things first to governor desantis. the voters in ohio and arizona, pennsylvania, they don't know you very well but they don't want to hear a litany of florida accomplishments at this point as great as they are. they want to know that you're going to be able to defeat biden on the issue that is number one, the economy. so talk about the economy. what are your specific solutions to protect american jobs and bring down the price of energy? smile also. have fun out there. don't be afraid to show your personality and ask the people what's on their minds. i promise you, it will not be disney or bud light. and as for president trump, keep

your eye on the prize. 270 electoral votes. everything you say everything you do should be geared in winning in the states you need to win. this should be a 50 state campaign for america. attacking popular republican governors or senators in battleground states is more than unwise. it's self-destructive. why do it? voters in a general election want to vote for a winner, not a winier. so, please, for the love of god stop talking about 2020. that will not bring a single voter tout support you who didn't support you before. you need to grow the pot not shrink it. be magnanimous and be the elder statesman that biden is not obviously capable of it. that will reassure people and look, your policies worked before. they have are going to work again. the democrats are banking on these trials and they are banking on a distracted electorate to pull biden over the finish line.

hey, guys, let's not let them get away with that. and that's the angle. joining me now is tom bevan, president and co-founder of real clear politics and matt toury chairman of insider advantage. tom, can you react to the advice i gave both candidates, maybe i'm totally off base. i want to first get to this. every poll shows that trump is the run away favorite in the g.o.p. primary from the national polls to the state polls to even the delegate fights. but what's going on in these general election trends? >> well, i mean, as you mentioned, trump continues to show incredible strength at the national level, even at the state level. desantis has been bumping around at about 20, 21 percent. the movement actually has been happening in the sort of lower tier where vivek ramaswamy has already jumped ahead of nikki haley in the national polls and if the trends continue will be in third place. he is going to eclipse mike pence in probably the next couple of weeks. and i think the reason is that he is getting some traction

where other candidates have not. is part and parcel of what you just mentioned the angle. he is speaking to trump voters. he is not attacking trump. he is not degrading those voters. is he trying to actually win them over. ron desantis is not doing that and i think that's one of the reasons that his campaign thus far has failed to move the needle in the upward direction. >> laura: now, matt, what about this? i mean, vivek is really impressive. his ability to articulate the issues mirrors really the thinking, the populist conservative thinking of both trump and desantis. all three candidates are of the more populist variety. obviously vivek ramaswamy is way down but still he has moved as tom said. what's going on here? >> well, one reason that ram ramaswamy full throated in support of donald trump in indictments and he had would

pardon. he reached out to trump voters and they liked that second thing he is doing is he is great on the issues. he is 1, 2, 3. very crisp in his presentation. i think is he going to keep rising. with respect to desantis, desantis' campaign is like a playbook that was written six months ago but it doesn't work now. they have got to get off this bud light stuff. they have got to get off this particular issue and move onto the issues you eluded to. and also desantis' campaign needs to recognize that they rose, he became a great governor here in florida because he was viewed as being florida's version of donald trump. when you can't be florida's version of donald trump if you are not going to be sort of pro-donald trump nationally. even though trump cawlts him desanctimonious and all these other terms, if it were me running that campaign i would have a full throated support of donald trump. i would be denouncing these indictments. i mean four indictments of one man four different jurisdictions. >> laura: that's a joke. >> we are both lawyers you know that's inconceivable. that's what that campaign needs to as far as trump, your advice is spot on.

i will say this. i think the republican party owes it to trump and the republican party owes it to their candidates to start getting the word out through paid advertising what is going on on the other side lawyer laura thank you. >> they're not going to get covered on a of these other networks or social media. they have got to spend some money now. >> laura: you cannot wait until augers of 2024 to get the word out on biden. trump is getting hammered by these prosecutors and that is going to be the campaign next year. there's no doubt about it. tom, susan glasser of the new yorker i think kind of represents her world view the left's real concern about these trump indictments. watch this. >> i have seen so many moments at which people were this sort of off stage actor whether it was the court or, you know, something else would come and sort of solve the donald trump problem in our politics is the calendar that is really freaking me out. you know, there is no possible way that this is going to be resolved before the primaries are well underway.

>> laura: tom, i mean, i think it's clear they know they can't rely on their voters, given really the state of play right now with biden. so they are really reaching for a prosecutorial advantage or, you know, a more, you know, ballot harvesting, i don't know. but they don't seem too confident in their candidate at all. >> no. and they have good reason not to be confident. as you mentioned. even democrats are worried about biden's age his mental acuity, all those things. economy is low. number one issue. if you look at the national polls right now, donald trump and joe biden are running neck and neck. it's like less than half a a percentage point separates them in the national polls. it will come down to the same eight states and ground game and also come down to independent voters. i think they are banking on the fact that if all these trials get pushed and continue into the general election, into september, into october, that

that will be enough to win over independent voters, which they're going to need in those crucial battle ground states. >> laura: i think americans see this for what it is right now. i think, matt, you are exactly right and, tom, you are spot on here. matt, i think the democrats are pointing to -- and you can't blame them. they have won some of these special elections. they think we are riding high into the presidential election year. why might that not be the right analysis here going into the general? >> that might or might not be the right answer. what i think is the thing everyone needs to know is that for the republicans to win the presidency, there has to be a tsunami vote. not just a marginal vote. you alluded to these things are very tight. i think the democrats are on to one thing. that is if they can keep things where they're right now. joe biden with all of his frailtiesies and problems will be the next president once again. >> laura: tom, do you agree with that if it's not a reagan style turnout, tom, do you agree?

>> i do, i think republicans again especially in 8 # battle ground states republicans have to get the turn out operation up and running and find those votes and harvest those ballots otherwise, they will lose again. >> laura: that includes early votes. don't talk down early voting: great to see you. while everyone has been talking about gavin newsom replacing biden at the top of the ticket. we are going to explain why his replacing kamala is a much more likely scenario. stay there. ♪ absorbing nutrients.

himself in. he is old and is he frail and his number two is widely despised. enter gavin newsom. now, consider that newsom has been positioning himself lately traveling to red states, pulling desantis like moves in his state like going after a school board and finding them for not accepting his radical new curriculum, running ads, all of that while some in democrat circles have been salivating over his replacing biden. that was never a serious play. replacing kamala though? who says no? consider this piece from the "wall street journal" today. where is kamala harris? harris planned to campaign extensively for president biden's re-election but her early schedule suggests otherwise. so is something afoot? joining us now is chris bedford executive editor at the common sense society. chris, this just struck me today and kind of watching things playing out in california. i mean, it is interesting that newsom is taking on that

temecula school board for refusing to accept this radical new curriculum that they want to put in place in the public schools there involving, you know, all sorts of topics that we have covered on the show. is he trying to do a desantis in the reverse in california. and meanwhile kamala? seems like how low can she go? we don't know, but low. yeah, gavin newsom has really set himself up in the tradition of california. the germt tall lab for left wing ideas and things we like to make fun of and scoff at but 10 years later find themselves federal policy affecting all of us or inflicting all of us is more like it. the reason why i think in the end barack obama didn't go with hillary clinton, despite the fact that he knew she was the -- his apparent successor, the despite the fact that he would never end up backing joe biden after for president at least in the race right after is because when you switch your vice president it b portrays an air f

weakness. given how weak he is both physically and in popularity in his own party is not going to want to portray any more weakness than they already have. kamala harris brings nothing to the table as far as voters go. >> laura: chris, let me jump in on that. i'm sorry to interrupt. you are comparing obama, one of the best political campaigners that we have seen the last 50 years to joe biden who can't find his way off a stage. i mean, i mean, i don't know. i don't know if you can compare those two in this juncture in their campaign. i mean, biden needs all the help can he get at this point in my view. >> that's true. but, remember, obama was weak on re-election. the economy was bad his poll number was bad. the percentage of people thought the country was going in the wrong direction, made it look like mitt romney had a good chance to unseat him as president. that turned out not to be true in the end. with joe biden one of the big things they want to do is have this theater.

"the washington post" is the same. and you saw in the irs whistleblower's testimony the other day that the democrats, all they had was trump, trump, trump. and you know that they are losing when they just invoke trump's name. that's all they have. really on the back foot whistleblowers and material particularly what chuck grassley brought out yesterday allegations are so damning and so convincing and leading all in one direction that they have to either lie or destroy the messenger con distant stories about donald trump. >> laura: miranda, the irs
