immigration for our lifetime. and the third is confronting china. i am the only candidate in the field that has actually converted an ecosystem, a city in this case to being the most dynamic city in the country. with the lowest unemployment rate, the highest wage growth and the lowest taxes in its history. and a declining homicide rate to print something that's not happening anywhere else in the united states. eric: you talk about immigration. divided minute administration was seeing what's happening at the border. how can you possibly? >> we have to treat it like the crisis that it is. it is a human trafficking cr crisis. iit is a fentanyl crisis it. we are 80 -- 90000 americans are dying every day. it's i've often said it's an equivalent of a 747 crushing every single day. if that was happening in our country would stop everything and treat it like the crisis that it is and we are not doing that. we are not using the resources necessary. instead we are hiring a bunch of irs agent. instead we are trying to

we are going to have to bring hispanics to our site. were going to have to bring that have done in miami-dade county which was plus 30 for hillary and now it's plus 10 for republicans since i became mayor. by contrast the republic governors congressional district of jacksonville was plus 25 for the prior mayor who was republican. when he endorsed a republican candidate they lost by four points to a democrat. that is eight negative 29-point swing in favor of the democrats. so my policies work. they bring people over and that is what's one to take part not just when the 2024 election but to win a generation of elections. we also need young voters went plus 26 or biden. that is unforgivable for us to use on a young voters. we should be able to win those categories which would provide us a large electoral college victory in 2024. eric: you talk by uniting the country. you think for president trump is capable of doing that? >> i think the former president,
9:08 am
as we all know, i'm not going to say anything that is out of bounds in a sense, he is in the leadership position in this race by a large margin. i think the only way for another republican to get elected and it part of the reason why i am happily and excited 30 days into my campaign we have raised a significant amount of money. we are in the polling threshold we have 30 days to go for the first debate. there is a lot of shuffling going to happen and the non- former president side. we are seeing the governor obviously go down. you dish out a couple of polls where he is barely in second place in iowa and has lost second place in south carolina. he is also losing ground nationally. there's a lot of reshuffling going on. think republican voters are looking for something fresh, new, different, inspiring aspirational. i've a track record of doing that. have a vision of articulating that. what time the more people get to know meet them where they're going to like it and gravitate toward my candidacy.
9:09 am
eric: the former president is leading in the republican polls now. do you fear he could be damaged goods when you deal with the general election? a lot of different electorate than the gop primary base. >> yes, that is right. but what you have got to look at is voters and how disastrous joe biden has run this country. when you consider domestic policy or you have had record inflation and record interest rates throughout his entire tenure, and the poor get poorer. the democrats are supposed to be for the poor. but in 'bidenomics' the poor are getting poorer for they have lost purchasing power and have more borrowing costs. foreign policy has led us to the brink of potentially another world war. he is a weakness and an negligent withdrawal from afghanistan and bolden putin. putin has now invaded ukraine. it has created a situation where all people in our country are divided. particular republicans are divided on this issue.

approach to beijing is buffering them? is holding them back? or is it potentially giving them more of a green lights i can tell you biden's diplomacy is just not working. we have had blinken, john kerry, secretary yellen over there. they all came home basically empty-handed. and then we see this a big package of fighters and bombers flown against taiwan. all of the diplomacy has not made taiwan any safer it's clearly not deterring xi jinping from continuing to show off his rising military power. eric: what should the administration do? >> deterrence is eight number one priority. we all know that. there are real specific steps i would like to see them take. it would help to do it more u.s./taiwan joint exercises. they have their own exercise this week but i would like to see our attack helicopters print our f35 doing joint training on

taiwan. to make the points that hate xi jinping is not worth trying to invade or to do a sudden decapitation attack on that island nation. eric: do you think he has that message right now or far from it? >> no, i think he is still deciding. he's looking at its own domestic economic pressures. he is trying to influence the taiwan elections. there's part of the taiwan electorate that wants to be more appeasing and cool it off. he's trying to influence them. i do not think he has that message enough. we need to make sure that our military really shows its strength, our willingness to uphold the rule of law and defend taiwan have our allies from china to japan participate. eric: with the appeasers women taiwan? >> very interesting question. that would lead possibly two more negotiation between taiwan and china dare to have a strong economic relationship and i do not know it makes taiwan any safer.
