outside the suspect's home in massapequa park in new york. what do you have this morning snow >> this is the 11th straight day investigators have been at rex heuermann's home looking for evidence. you mentioned the "new york post" reports over the weekend they found a soundproof room in the home's basement. take a look at this video also from this weekend where crews also used an excavator and cadaver dogs and radar. they will finish at the home this week. the main detective said it could be tomorrow or the end of the week. investigation continues right now. take a live look from our drone. a source familiar with the investigation tells fox news investigators believe that heuermann murdered at least one of the victims here at his family's home. the suffolk county sheriff said investigators haven't found so-called trophies. it could change with testing of evidence. >> there are things still have to be forensicly tested to

insure or even see if those things are any types of trophies. whether it's a piece of jewelry, a piece of clothing, whether it's a picture. all those things will have to be looked at by the investigators. >> dana and bill the infamous bt case killer dennis rader called himself the clone. he bound, tortured and killed ten people. in a letter from prison he explained the similarities he sees between himself and heuermann saying i was arrested age 59. married, two kids, husband, dad, long time serial killer, stalker, used electronic devices, lives in a neighborhood undetected. dna and electronics his downfall much like me. another similarity between the two. both men's wives filed for divorce almost immediately after their arrest. as for heuermann, he remains on

it has been a minute. welcome back. joe lieberman is helping the no labels operation. here is one of his quotes. he says they are working overtime to prevent the voters from a choice. the voters in the country deserve a third choice. bipartisan choice. i will repeat we will not be spoilers in this. quinnipiac asked voters if they would consider a third party candidate. 47% said they would. 47% said they would not. i guess the question to you, sir, what are you afraid of? >> we're not afraid of anything. i like joe lieberman a lot. i served with him and he is my friend. we just think this is too risky of an effort and we hope that we can help convince no labels to back this down and not do it. if these were normal times, we would have no problem with this. these are not normal times. we just went through an election

that was valid by a whisker only because mike pence and 6 or 7 state republican election officials stood up against tremendous pressure and did the right thing and saved the election from being seen as stolen and rigged by millions of americans. the person who really tried to overthrow the government and that election is running for president. and as liz cheney said, we can't have him back in the white house again. so the no labels effort you just know from looking at all the polling information, including no labels polling, would siphon so many votes away from joe biden and take them to trump if those are the two candidates. that's what it looks like. so this is not a good effort. this is a risky effort that we

hope to convince no labels to not go forward. >> dana: there is also polling that shows most americans are not that excited about a rematch of biden and trump. and when you look at the white house's situation and how low the numbers are, despite how they think the economy is doing and frustrated they don't get a credit for it and polling isn't reflected in what they think the american people should be feeling in the economy. so if this effort of a possible no labels bid would take that many votes away from president biden, what do you think president biden needs to change in order to turn things around? because if it's this dire, then should they change something and could that even be perhaps president biden stepping away and not running again? >> look, all of that is in play and we don't know what's going to happen. one thing we do know is that the american people decide on who

the candidate in the republican party will be and who the candidate in the democratic party will be. i don't know who is going to pick the no labels candidate. they are talking about giving people a choice. i don't know how that is a choice. they have a choice. anybody can run for president. anybody is qualified to be a candidate for president. so let's let the process play out. but all we're saying is, if donald trump is the choice of republican primary voters and he is the candidate that they want, we feel that having him back in the white house is more of a risk than our democracy can face. this is a troubled time and we have never had an election like the one we had in 2020, as i'll say again. we missed having a broken

>> bill: so here in new york the summertime. it's drones versus sharks. intriguing story here. officials are using ariel surveillance as an early warning system on the potential for danger lurking in shallow waters. douglas kennedy got a firsthand look and has the story now. good morning. >> shark attacks are definitely on the rise. the big problem is, can't see them coming. there was no alarm, no warning. >> no warning, just bang, came straight up from underneath. >> last july 13th was a typical day in the water for sean donnelly, who has been surfing long island's south shore for 30 years. typical until a shark bit his left leg. you are out there in the water and there is absolutely no way to see it coming. >> the water is murky. couldn't see anything.

beach as of now. >> dana: schools across the country are dealing with a critical shortage of teachers. part of the problem is fewer college students getting the needed credentials to teach. the number of students getting education degrees, once the number one major in america, has dropped nearly 50% since 1970. it has dramatic effects. kathleen is a high school teacher and president of the berkeley county education association in south carolina. kathleen, this is a major problem. you are trying to deal with it from your perspective, how bad is this situation? >> well, it is a real problem. if you think about how your bathtub works. having enough teachers means you have the bathtub filled up to the right waterline. right now we have a drain that is much bigger than the water that's coming in. that water coming in would be like the college certified teachers ready to teach and the drain is just all the teachers leaving. in south carolina, teachers that

have 1 to 5 years experience coming right out with their certification, 40% of those teachers leave by that five year. we're watching high turnover rates and also seeing if we think about that waterline, that waterline is going down and it is actually speeding up as it is going down. we're not filling the need that we have with how many teachers we are losing year-over-year. >> dana: why do you think there are fewer young americans deciding to sign up for teaching as a major, or wanting to go into education? and why especially then if they do get the major why are they leaving within five years? >> a couple of things. first of all, the pay is an issue. teachers are also given kind of an ambiguous set of things they need to get done for the day. just too many responsibilities and because we're already in a shortage, we simply don't have enough people right now so those

teachers that are there, those staff members that are there, at the schools are already stretched very thin. those new certified teachers, new people coming in are already coming into stress situations. and, you know, if you want to attract people to a job or career, it has to be a job or career that you want to keep. so that's what we really need to focus on is retaining the teachers that we have and creating a situation where it becomes attractive because staff members want to stay. >> dana: 45% of public schools began the 2022-2023 school year with one or more unfilled teaching positions. that's only going to get worse. what is also getting worse is something we're very concerned about here at this show and at this channel. the nation's report card showing this decline, the score change between 2020 and 2023 reading down four points, math down nine

points and these scores keep coming in like this. i think this is a national emergency and without teachers, what are we going to do? >> that's right. i think what you need to recognize just like the statistics are showing. these are ongoing trends that have been going on for decades. not just over a number of years. we're just starting to feel those effects now. we're in a critical crisis. we need to make sure that we get those teachers in play, you know. the way i like to think about it is the teachers we have right now are our first string football team and we just don't have enough players so we're playing the iron man football where they're playing offense, they're playing defense. >> dana: you are getting dangerously close to talking about sports. i have think i followed you there. >> good. it's south carolina. i can't help it. >> dana: do you think that school choice, that is increasing in many states, would help young people maybe want to choose to go into education or at least stay?

this fall we will have our first -- third development of off shore wind in new jersey. but at the same time, what we're hearing from experts is that there is real concern with national security. this morning we met with representative chris smith here in new jersey just outside of one of the major naval ammunition bases to discuss his bill that passed the house of representatives on thursday. that bill requires the president to sign off and give official approval of any off shore wind development assuring that the project would not interfere with military operations. >> there has been a total lack of transparency on the part of the biden administration. it's all out there hiding in plain sight. yet the military has clamped up and won't say a word. that goes right to the top of the pentagon. >> so the big concern here is the weakening and interference of military sonar and radar and the blind spots with off shore wind creates calling shadowing.
