is he created man for the front band which endures. he is still touring at 80 years old. shows no sign of reaching the end of the road. happy birthday. thanks at home for watching "special report." i'm gillian turner in washington. the ingraham angle is coming up next. ♪ ♪ ♪ >> laura: hey, everyone i'm laura ingraham and this "the ingraham angle." tonight we see rank corruption that will rock the public's trust in four areas, at the border, doj, biden family itself and even in the skies above. so for anyone still wondering why tens of millions of americans do not trust washington, well, today's dramatic news on multiple fronts provides critical answers. first, in wilmington, delaware, where hunter's sweetheart plea deal on tax and gun charges
4:01 pm
collapsed into what i thought was a beautiful pile of rubble. >> what this means for hunter biden is that he went from a sweetheart deal to a real poison pill. i mean, he -- this is going to expose him across the board. >> laura: then about 100 miles south on capitol hill, we watched as questioning in two different hearings exposed government lies, dissembling and concealment again about what is happening at our border and in the skies above. we are going to tell you about both of these stories coming up. and, later, a disturbing episode involving senator mitch mcconnell today that's raising serious questions about his health. >> in the string of -- >> do you want to say anything else to the press? >> go ahead. >> we'll take him back. >> laura: thankfully the senator
4:02 pm
is said to be okay but concerns linger. but, first, we start at a federal court in wilmington, delaware where a brazen move by hunter biden's attorney showed just how accustomed to special treatment the president's son really is. now, what many of us thought what might be a fairly routine plea deal acceptance by judge maryellen noreika turned into more than three hours of negotiations between the prosecutor and the biden legal team. now, ultimately, the intense back and forth ended with hunter pleading not guilty both to the tax and to the gun charges, meaning this is going to drag on for some time and, perhaps, well, drag the biden campaign down with it. and, yet, another dramatic turn today brought confirmation that the investigation into hunter biden is apparently continuing. now the doj would not give details about it. but when asked by the judge if this could potentially bring a foreign corruption charge,
4:03 pm
prosecutor leah wise simply answered yes. that's the moment the agreement completely broke down. well, of course right on cue, the regime media hopped into action to dismiss the day's events. >> i know we said it over and over again but all these claims are unproven right now. and they have no evidence. >> say it again. >> they have no evidence that ties this to the president. >> in the long-term it probably doesn't really mean that much that we had this wrinkle today. >> laura: but the truth is on multiple fronts, this is a white house in crisis. and, as usual, this is all the white house can really say in response. >> hunter biden is a private citizen. and this was a personal matter for him. as we have said, the president, the first lady, they love their son and they support him as he continues to rebuild his life. >> laura: all right. sorry, honey, but the pity party act just does not fly anymore. nice try, though. and that private citizen, hunter biden, rolled up to the hearing
4:04 pm
about what was supposedly a personal matter in a six car motorcade. we'll hit this developing story from all angles tonight. joining me now is saul wisenberg former deputy council. saul, briefly, what shocked you the most when you used the terms of this original plea deal? >> well, we still don't know the terms. we do not have the written plea agreements and that's the most shocking thing of all. it is outrageous, as american citizens, that we still have not seen the actual agreements that were discussed in open court. they are not confidential. they were discussed for three hours in open court. now, what we can tell from the hearing is that he was going to be given probation, that it looked like it was a binding plea. that if the judge accepted it, she would have to sentence him to probation. it would be misdemeanor
4:05 pm
probation. the felony gun charge would be turned into pre-trial diversification with no jail time and he was going to get broad immunity that would keep him from being prosecuted potentially for anything that was uncovered during the investigation. that's really what broke this down because there was a disagreement on the record about how broad the meeting -- the agreement was, the immunity was, but, laura, that's part of the problem. they should never have brought this deal into court unless it was totally clear in the terms what the deal was, shocking incompetence. by the department of justice. what's your guess given the history of what's gone down here, which is it? i believe this is a corrupt deal. i believe this is a tainted investigation.
4:06 pm
absolutely there is no legitimate reason for this to happen. these people are not incompetent. weiss does not have a reputation as being an incompetent person and, in particular, of the guy who looks like he is the lead prosecutor, leo wise, has a reputation as a very competent and very aggressive prosecutor. so the idea that this could be left to chance is ridiculous, the judge said two very important things today, she said these -- this agreement -- this agreement is not straight forward. that's number one. number two she said and it contains a typical provision. it's not straightforward and it contains a typical provisions that, again is unacceptable. >> laura: seemed the judge seemed skeptic of the unusual deal questioning why it had been
4:07 pm
filed under a provision that gave her no legal authority to reject it when she asked leo wise the prosecutor if there was any precedent for this kind of deal being proposed he replied no, your honor. so, what makes hunter biden different pray tell in all of this, sol? like why would he get this special treatment and he has to admit, no, this isn't usual. this doesn't usually happen. >> well, you are talking about two different things binding plea which was what the judge was asking about initially. that is very unusual. but it certainly happens every once in a while. and what that means is, once the judge decides i'm going to accept the agreement so if it calls for probation and the judge finds out when she reads the pre-sentence report oh this guy has done all kinds of terrible things he shouldn't get probation, that's too bad. she either -- if she is going to accept that agreement. she has got to give the guide probation. that's certainly very unusual
4:08 pm
but not unprecedented but, when you combine that with this apparently weird provision which, again, we have not seen yet, where the judge on the felony gun part, the pre-trial diversion diveement where the judge decide whether or not charges would be brought if hunter biden breached that agreement and she said that's a constitutional problem. that, i have never heard of. so that is truly unprecedented. >> laura: sol, unbelievable day. thank you. great to have you on. and we just got our hands on the conditions of hunter's release. judge noreika ordered him to actively seek employment, who would have thought of that. refrain from alcohol and illicit drugs and then submit to random drug testing and he isn't allowed to possess a firearm. well, i guess he should hope that burisma is hiring again. joining us now wisconsin senator ron johnson. senator, good to see you. hunter's team is obviously scared of what may come down the
4:09 pm
line with future prosecutions. what should they be most concerned about, given the facts of this case as they are developing? ask it the fara charge, the foreign agent's registration act that he did not register under while he was operating overseas? >> well, you know, my concern there is it's very difficult to convict a democrat in washington, d.c. under the fara statute. can you convict republicans but convicting a democrat is pretty difficult here in this jurisdiction. they should mostly be concerned about the tax evasion. an excellent article by eileen o'connor in the "wall street journal" i think yesterday she was former head of the tax division department of justice saying that any other american would be in jail had they evaded taxes the way that hunter biden does. what i have been looking for, laura, is who is going to advocate for the equal application of justice under the law? you know, obviously, the prosecution has not been doing that.
4:10 pm
i was hoping the judge would do it. i hope she still will by just rejecting this sweetheart deal and call for a thorough investigation and an honest prosecution. because we have not had that yet. that's what i think hunter should be most concerned about is a thorough investigation and an honest prosecution. >> laura: now, i know you have said in the past, i think back in may, senator, that impeachment of the president on issues related to these activities and foreign businesses would not be appropriate but that you were open to impeachment proceedings against cabinet members such as mayorkas. has your thinking on this changed given what we have learned just in the past month or so? >> no, i think there have been a lot more details coming out. i have always felt that joe biden was unfit for office. certainly senator grassley and i in our report we showed all the vast web foreign entanglements he never should have been elected.
4:11 pm
he wouldn't have been if the press had been honest. at this point the house is adding to the record we developed. more details. more things that tie president biden to hunter biden's corrupt grifts. it's sick to listen to the mainstream media to say there is no evidence. there is a ton of evidence and it's mounting each and every day. so i hope the house does proceed with investment inquiry. i think it will open up more evidence to them give them greater power to do the type of investigation that really needs to be done here. the fbi and the department of justice obviously are not doing that thorough investigation. >> laura: i think the public doesn't trust the fbi and the doj, given everything we have seen what they have done to trump relentlessly and how they treat this with kid gloves. it's just a no-brainer there is unequal application of justice, senator, as we played in the open senator minority leader mitch mcconnell had a very scary moment today at a press conference when he froze and he could not speak for a period of
