>> mr. president -- [indiscernible] >> as you can see, the president chose not to take questions, see if it changes this afternoon when he has the italian prime minister here. once the plea agreement fell apart, hunter biden entered a plea of not guilty. it's still possible a deal could be reached in the weeks and months ahead that he would change his plea but the federal judge demanding lawyers from both sides make clear in the future any deal would not convey broad immunity from further investigations like the ones into his past business dealings. also pressed hunter about his past behavior, including sobriety, and conditions set including looking for a job, not possessing weapons, use of alcohol, narcotics, and testing for substances, and president biden has talked about his substance abuse problems in the past. the white house made it clear it has no plans to distance itself from hunter, we have seen him at a state dinner, and also

indictment against him that included fara violations for fraternizing with and being paid by the exact same company, the chinese company, cfc, that was paying hunter biden and his uncle jim biden only they got millions of dollars, they got about ten times more than gal luft did, so that should open a door if you want equal punishment under the law and i don't know whether there really is an ongoing investigation into hunter biden. his lawyers swore black and blue that that was not happening and yet yesterday you hear that it is. so maybe that's an rouse by attorney david weiss when he gives testimony to the house oversight committee, he can hide behind it and not comment on it.
10:07 am
>> john: and the fara charge, leo weiss, assistant u.s. attorney there, the judge said according to our jake gibson, if the government could potentially bring a fara charge, leo weiss answered yes, why we went down that road. our hillary vaughn caught up with some democratic lawmakers and asked them about this and the potential charges and allegations of wrongdoing with the bidens. here is what she got from it. listen here. >> why do you think democrats seem to not care when there's a democrat in the white house about possible corruption in the oval office? >> the corruption that we are seeing is a corruption of the republican party. >> why don't democrats care about some of this stuff that has come out? >> it's b.s. >> there's no real evidence. >> why would we want to impeach him when there is no wrongdoing. >> john: there is a lot of talk swirling about a possible impeachment investigation the only way to get to the bottom of this. but when you hear the democrats dismiss all of this out of hand
10:08 am
as they do, what do you think? >> well, what else can they do, really. it's the evidence of wrongdoing is piling up every single day and the republicans in the oversight and other committees having whistleblower testimony and bank statements, it's -- it's pointing in a very strong direction towards that influence peddling scheme that the biden family was running when joe biden was vice president and the reason that's really important now is because he's the president and have those millions of dollars compromised, his ability to deal with the same foreign countries that were paying his family. >> john: where do you think this is all headed? >> look, kevin mccarthy opened the door to impeachment the other day, the speaker of the house. there are republicans who are pushing for it.

james comer is being judicious and just following along with where his investigation is going but that's going some wild places and you saw yesterday that the carefully construct protected racquet, built around joe biden, not just hunter biden, is starting to fall apart and some people in the fbi and doj have become compromised, you wonder if they say i'm going to save myself and my career and reputation rather than continue on with the cover-up. >> john: oh, that never happens in washington. miranda, thank you so much. anything. so there's that post, sandra, obviously the last time president trump was indicted by the florida grand jury he had laid out much more detail. now, this all began just to walk back to the july 16th target letter that trump attorneys received. our sources confirming that there were three specific charges contained in that letter that the former president could be facing. they include three things. one, separation of rights under color of law suggesting it could be a civil rights or voting rights charge along with conspiracy to commit offense or defraud the u.s. and the third one, witness tampering. no news in that. this comes after just a few hours ago as you mentioned fox news confirming that the former president's attorneys meeting with jack smith at his office where i just left from. that is typically, as you well know, usually a courtesy meeting in the last step we see before

indictments could be issued. but significant that the former president has taken to truth social. we are watching the courthouse behind us. we know the grand jury came in this morning, met for a few hours, took a lunch break and are back in there now. we have not seen the former president's attorneys here or jack smith at the moment but watching very closely to try and figure out whether anything is actually going to come or not, and one final note, i think it's worth pointing out, sandra, as we watch this, jack smith, the special counsel, has the grand jury in florida, 37 counts on the documents case. here it's referred to as the january 6th grand jury, but it is not limited to events on just january 6th. it refers to the election itself. we will bring it to you as soon as we get anything new, sandra. >> sandra: that is something new. griff jenkins, keep us posted on any further development.
10:13 am
no indication of notice given during that meeting, john, that is the headline, and of course that he says his lawyers had a productive meeting with the justice department this morning. we'll see what happens as we know when the other indictments came down, this had only served to boost the former president as far as his overall approval ratings are, or i should say in the polls as we work our way to the presidential election. but the president specifically saying that statement that this would only further serve to destroy our country if one were issued. so we'll be watching for any developments on that. >> john: interesting piece of news there. the way this was being read was with todd blanch and john laura going in to meet with smith's team that most people thought that that meant that an indictment was imminent. but apparently, according to the former president, it doesn't look like that's the case. we'll keep watching and let you

northeast, in fact newark, new jersey just issued a code red letting people know about the dangerous conditions and here in times square we can definitely feel this heat. now get this, over 260 million americans will feel the scorching temps now spreading across the plains and over the east coast putting major cities, not only in the northeast but also new england under heat alerts through at least friday. exp experts stay inside during the hottest part of the day, 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and drink water even if you don't feel thirsty and find shade. it could feel like it's over 105°. people are doing their best to find shade and water. >> it's never fun to go through a heat wave, but what's great is that there are all these people spaces where there's water so the kids can play. >> now, new york city has opened up several hundred cooling centers, this is a measure to
10:45 am
fight against heat-related deaths, that could happen inside homes without air-conditioning. it's very, very hot out here. >> john: good day to be going sleeveless, no question about that. stay cool, although it's difficult. sandra, you've been in the heat. how is it in new york city today? >> sandra: hot, it's just sticky. and you know how new york city gets when its this hot, gets icky, like really stinky. >> john: the smell is quite unique in new york city. >> sandra: always is, but extra special today. >> john: here in d.c., it's only 92, supposed to hit 98 around 5:00, we'll see. still not like 125° in either qatar or india, i've been to both of those places when it's been that hot. that's hot. >> sandra: sweltering. cape cod, meanwhile, is seeing a surge in shark sightings. one beach had to be temporarily shut down completely after several sharks were spotted
10:46 am
along the coast. so should cape cod beach goers worry about even going for a swim? ask austin gallagher, a shark expert and ceo and chief scientist for beneath the waves. thank you for joining us. something our team has been talking about. seems there is more and more shark sightings happening. is that the case or just more cameras on the beach? >> yeah, thanks for having me and happy shark week. you bring up a good point. it does seem like there are a lot more shark sightings happening and it's a result of really a couple of different things. number one, we do have the summer months and we know sharks come closer to shore in summer, and number two, populations off the east coast are slightly increasing because they have been protected, so a slight rise. and number three what you said, we have more cameras, more drones, more go pros, more social media, creates this awareness. >> john: seems like every week is shark week up off of cape
10:47 am
cod, i have the app, sharktivity, this is a snapshot this morning, cape cod area over the last month. and there are, you know, some shark sightings along the coast of new hampshire and up into maine, but cape cod is ground 0 for great white sharks, all the little blue dots are confirmed sightings, the orange ones are believed to be sharks and the other colors are specific sharks tagged, so they know where they are. why is cape cod itself a hot bed for shark activity. >> cape cod is ground 0 for the resurgence of the great white shark and such an incredible coastline, i'm from cape cod, massachusetts myself, and so much prey there for the white sharks. we have protected marine mammals in the united states since 1972. that includes seals, so we have about 50 years of an unregulated
10:48 am
population of seals that have just exploded. essentially rung the dinner bell for the white sharks. white sharks have also been protected since the 90s, so you have the convergence of the two mega predators coming together that have been protected and it's just a buffet for the great whites. >> sandra: they say the beach is open after they shut it down because they had the shark sightings. do you go swimming? >> for sure. i mean -- you bring up a good point. i think we should probably celebrate the fact that we have the restored population of the ultimate apex predator on earth. but, we do have to learn how to co-exist with these animals. and we have to be smart. you know, we do share the ocean with them, any time we go in the water we are taking risks and this really does kind of go on the local politicians beachgoers, lifeguards, get that information out, get the signs out, where the tracking and monitoring of these animals and
10:49 am
populations come into play so we can learn how to be smart, safe beach users. >> john: i want to kweet an article in scientific america, a new study shows the peninsula eastern shoreline hosts one of the largest seasonal white shark gatherings in the world and is the first such hot spot documented in the north atlantic. the sharks are most concentrated by massachusetts during june through october, the same time of year when more than 3 million vacationers regular fly flock to the cape. they are comparing this to cape town, south africa, and i was there in the summer of 1975 when everybody saw that shark eating everybody in that movie about martha's vineyard. are we to be scared like steven spielberg scared in that summer? i would not even swim in a lake after i watched that movie. >> you bring up a good point. everybody has their own tolerance. what we are seeing and what we have been seeing unfold here
10:50 am
over the last really 10, 15 years up in cape cod is literally from the books and the script of the movie "jaws." you have the beaches starting to be closed and that's a good thing because we are trying to avoid shark attacks and those types of incidents but you know, people should also be smart. shouldn't go swimming next to seal colonies, listen to the reports that people do give us, and we should be able to enjoy the ocean but have to be smart. that's my opinion on it. >> sandra: we sailed to martha's vineyard last summer and ended up on the beach, john, where that famous scene was filmed, and i did not go in the water. just -- a choice i made. final question to you. you are swimming and see a shark coming your way, you are confident that's what it is, far enough out you cannot run in. what do you do? >> you get out of the water, yeah. you try to get out of there as quickly as possible.
10:51 am
let's just be honest. i'm not going to sugar coat it. you don't want to look like prey or splashing around, that could attract them. make your way out of the water and let other people know as well. >> john: and you can find if you can actually talk on water. interesting august. >> sandra: great information, thank you. critics on both sides of the aisle on the florida social studies curriculum. the governor says it's reaction to a fake narrative. steve has the story for us. what exactly is this fight about? >> sandra, the new curriculum is more than 200 pages long, not clear how many critics have read all 200 because the fight is pretty much about one sentence in that new curriculum. that sentence reads instruction
10:52 am
includes how slaves developed skills which in some instances could be applied for personal benefit. that one sentence of slavery and benefit has set off the fireworks. first vice president harris flying down to florida to do what she called fight back against this curriculum. here is the vice president. >> they dare to push propaganda to our children. this is the united states of america. we are not supposed to do that. >> florida's governor, ron desantis, is saying the critics are trying to create a hoax, a false narrative. >> we are teaching the honest history, good, bad and ugly, teaching all the injustices with respect to slavery and other things that happened but that's not good enough for them. they want to wrap it in and use that to advance their modern agenda. >> for parents of school-aged
10:53 am
children in florida like lisette, she says a simple case. >> slavery was evil, florida knows how to teach children what evil is because florida does it with the holocaust. why are we excusing slavery at this point in time. >> for dr. william allen who helped write the new curriculum, it's not that simple. he says the critics have it all wrong. >> what should be said is that people through their own exertions were able to benefit themselves under enormous adversity. >> the new curriculum comes after a stop woke law passed in florida one year ago. sandra, back to you. >> sandra: steve, we'll keep watching that. thank you, john. >> john: a detour here, 1600 pennsylvania avenue where karine jean-pierre has just begun the briefing. listen in. >> continue to deliver on a sacred obligations to our veterans. and they build on our progress to expand medical care and housing guarantees for veterans. invest in v.a. medical facilities.

and expand employment protections for military spouses. now as you all know, the president also announced this week a landmark rule to strengthen mental health parity for 150 million americans. builds on steps we have already taken to tackle the mental health crisis including launching the 988 lifeline, a confidential line americans in crisis can call any time, and if you are someone in crisis please do call 988. as i just mentioned, this is a federal government program that is there to help all of you, or any one of you. investing historic resources to remove barriers to care and making sure service members and veterans can get the mental health care they need. we also recently announced additional steps to address the overdose epidemic and save lives. we introduced a whole of

government response against the emerging threat of fentanyl, combined with zylozene. and discussed state and federal coordination and additional resources for law enforcement officials working to disrupt drug trafficking. because of decisive actions this administration has taken to remove barriers to addiction treatment, expand access to naloxone and target drug trafficking operations we have seen a levelling off of overdose deaths for an entire year. it is hopeful -- it is a hopeful trend we are working to ensure actually continues. finally, i do want to talk about a recent trip our team took to further address the illicit fentanyl global supply chain. the opioid epidemic is a global challenge as well, and we are engaging at high levels with other countries to fight it together so this week homeland security adviser led a senior

delegation to mexico city to further cooperation with mexico and canada on countering illicit fentanyl and arms trafficking. our three countries are committed to working together to promote the safety and security of citizens, prosecute drug traffickers, target the supply of the precursor chemicals used for illicit fentanyl production, prevent the drugs from coming across borders and promote public health services to reduce harm and demand. we also have deepened cooperation with mexico on the related challenge of southbound arms trafficking. all of these issues ending cancer as we know it, delivering on our sacred obligation to our veterans, tackling the mental health crisis, and beating the overdose epidemic matters to americans in both red states and blue states. we are taking meaningful steps to deliver on the president's unity agenda for our nation. now tonight as you all know the president will deliver remarks
10:57 am
at the truman civil rights symposium to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the desegregation of the military and the forward march to redeem the soul of the nation. he'll talk about the courageous act president truman took to respond to the mistreatment of black veterans that led to creating the greatest fighting force in history of the world, that is also the most, the most diverse fighting force in the history of the world. and he'll talk about how 75 years after president truman's courage today in 2023 a senator from alabama is blocking more than 300 military nominations with an agenda. it's dangerous, they are harming our military readiness, they are undermining national security and they are hurting troop morale. and tonight president biden is going to make that clear i

suggest all of you tune in. today's gdp report shows bidenomics at work after a year recession predictions, we saw the economy grow at a 2.4% rate, last quarter while inflation fell significantly. business investment increased by nearly 8%, and construction of factories contributed more to growth than it has in 40 years. as you can see from the chart behind me that's what the president investing in america agenda is all about. bidenomics is growing the economy from the middle out and bottom up, not the top down. unemployment remains below 4%, inflation has fallen by two-thirds, wages are higher than before the pandemic and businesses have invested more than half a trillion dollars in clean energy and manufacturing. in short, the president's economic plan is indeed working. and finally, and finally, we have some good-byes today first i want to give a shout out to sebastian smith, a/k/a thor, if

service. >> john: we are going to jump out for a little while, if she gets into questions particularly with hunter biden we will get back in. >> sandra: she is about to take questions, john. remember, this time yesterday she opened with a statement from the white house, from the president and his family about their son after that explosive moment at the federal courthouse where a plea deal fell through. she did not open with any particular statement about that today. she's likely to be pressed with questions on that shortly. remember, there was a lot of very interesting exchanges in the briefing room yesterday. there was a pretty simple question about somebody who was found with an illegal firearm whether they should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law she responded by saying i know where you are going with that question, i won't answer it. we'll see, reporters pressed her yesterday. our own fox reporter did not get a chance to pose questions to her, possibly will be able
