we begin with new charges in the trunk classified documents case, he is now being accused of attempting to delete surveillance footage at his property. >> the department of justice has announced an indictment to tr trump's classified documents case. he now faces an additional charge and two new additional counts of obstruction. he is accused of asking a staff member to erase camera footage in an attempt to obstruct the probe into classified documents that wound up at his palm beach resort. some news of the charges came as he awaited a third indictment today by a d.c. grand jury. his campaign has said jack smith has no case. tonight, the president as firing

back, accusing the justice department of abuse, saying if i were not leading in numerous polls i was not going to be the republican nominee, it would not be happening. he is not the only one facing new charges. his associate faces to new obstruction counts. the indictment names a third defender. he is the head of maintenance. he has been charged with obstruction related to the alleged destruction of surveillance footage, this as well as lying to the fbi during a voluntary interview. he has been summoned to appear in a courtroom on monday. two of trump's lawyers met privately with smith's team. they tried to stop prosecutors from proceeding with an unfair prosecution over concerns the trial would collide with the

election. what happened today solidifies that. it is complicated. and involves a former president. the stakes are so high. it involves classified information. if you practice, you know getting classified information introduced into court is a laborious, long, difficult process. with an indictment with a third defendant that has to get his own counsel, they have added on the depth and length of this case. there is no way it happens before next year's election. >> people were saying march. i don't see how that could happen. i want to read this from the indictment and get your take on this. he told the trump employee that the boss one of the server deleted. trump employee for stated he would not know how to do that and did not believe he would have the right to do that.

he told him that he would have to reach out to another employee who was a supervisor of security for trump's business organization. there is a saying you can indict a ham sandwich. i read some of these indictments and sometimes it is as if they are throwing spaghetti at the refrigerator. every now and again, if there was any sort of misdirection on behalf of someone being interviewed, they have to do something. in this case, it looks like they have the making false statements. >> when you have references to employee whatever, that is a person cooperating. there is going to be a tremendous amount of pressure to slip themselves. they are going to say i am facing years of jail time here. prosecutors are going to do

have been able to find out ab about. >> our oversight has been tremendous. kudos to everyone who has been doing our oversight. that is what people want to see. >> always great to see you. appreciate that. breaking tonight, the senate, speaking of, right up the street as i look at the capitol. the senate passing its own version of the annual defense bill, 87-11. this sets up a showdown with republican-led house, which has its own version that includes limiting taxpayer-funded abortions and what has been described as transgender care for service personnel. we will keep an eye on that. we had up to seattle, where video shows what happened when a seattle police tried to break up a crowd at a racing event.

things got out of hand. crowds throwing objects, jumping on top of a police car. it was a mess. jeff paul has the latest from our west coast newsroom. >> seattle police were trying to break up one of those illegal street race takeovers that broke out near a block party. moments after they pulled up to clear the crowd out, this ha happen. as you can see, they started jumping on the hood of the squad car and threw some sort of liquid at the windshield. being outnumbered, the officer pulls away in reverse. the crowd uses the public bicycles and some road safety signs in an attempt to block the police from coming back. this happened at 1:30 a.m.

officers who remained in the area claimed to heard gunshots. they found two people at the intersection have been shot and discovered two more additional victims. a security guard working in the area has a message for those who caused the problems. >> if you are going to a venue, respect the space so you can have more of your shows and not be so bothered if a city or authority figures want to crack down on the environment because they are seeing tangible outcomes. >> seattle police have yet to make any arrests or identify suspects involved in the shooting. >> we want to bring in the host of kt th talk radio. jason.

i feel bad. it is an amazing town. i love seattle. i grew up in the west. tell us what happened and why it keeps happening. >> we don't have enough police officers. the show of force at the time was not consistent with what you would normally see when you have that number of people committing this kind of event and ultimately these crimes. beyond that, we have a culture of lawlessness that gives permission to these kids to act this way. when you come from a city with a police force that is respective and leadership that isn't constantly demonizing, when cops show up, people at least leave but we are seeing significant push book -- pushback. >> it was tough to watch. you mentioned that there is a

problem in police recruiting. the mayor talked about some grand effort. what has become of that? >> his plan to recruit and retain at least 500 cops. i went back and he had 38 action items, different strategies and initiatives he was going to put forward. he has not completed 70% of them and some of them either were not vetted because they were immediately dismissed. someone is already happening and he is trying to take credit and some items that were supposed to be done by the end of last year have not started. we are at a point where at the end of this year, we will be down 600 cops since 2020 when all the blm rioting and rallying started. >> it is not just the recruitment. it is the retention that is a

compromise reached, where you have a considerable part that is concerned. they have been told this is the end of democracy, but people believe it. because they believe it, i thought let's try to get a compromise. i am pushing the pause button on the reform, giving it three months. i got nowhere. that is why it is bad. it is good because after that, i took a minor part of the reform and said, if we can't get a broad agreement, let's get this item. the reason i am hopeful, when the opposition sees we have passed something without them, they might be more prone to have it passed something with them. that is why it has gotten worse.

truth will come out. >> for the israeli public, for that 40 to 50% that oppose the judicial reform, what assurances can you make to them? >> it is independent. my trial is proceeding. the judges have been chosen, the charges have been put forth. let's see what the evidence has put out. >> how close is peace between israel and saudi arabia? >> it could be close. if we have peace, it will be a positive history. it will enable us to end the conflict. the palestinians who refused to recognize israel and anybody are only 2% of the arab world.
