just a few minutes, president biden will try to shift the focus from the investigations into his family to his economic agenda by selling bidenomics to voters in maine. trying to turn the page after a bombshell court hearing for his son hunter and impeachment inquiry into him looms in the background. karl rove, former white house deputy chief of staff and fox news contributor. the president tried to change the subject but after what happened with the plea deal and what we learned from the plea deal that's a big hill for him to try to climb. >> absolutely. the president does have a big bully pulpit but this is a big issue and will not go away quickly. republicans have to be very careful about this. we saw the political impact of overreach in 1998 where all the attacks on bill clinton resulted in the democrats gaining seats in the midterm election, not losing seats. and similarly, if the republicans overreach on this,

that is to say jump to conclusions too quickly without a lot of evidence being built up to support those conclusions it could be hurtful to them in the 2024 presidential race. >> john: the flip side of the coin is the department of justice is going after the president so hard, i mean, do the two things kind of cancel each other out? >> well, to some degree they do, they cause both sides to sort of go to their corners. but my point about the biden -- the talk about a biden impeachment is it's premature. we need to know more, we need to hear from devon archer, even if he makes accusations about president biden we need to make sure that those are firmed up and backed up with evidence. we need corroboration, if you will, on these things, the republicans would be better off saying we want to investigate this and get to the bottom of things and pay attention to each of those steps before they start talking to the "i" word. >> john: devon archer expected to give testimony before the

committee on monday. how big do you expect that could be, karl? >> that could be very big. this is his business partner of hunter biden. in january of 2014, devon archer, who is very long standing relationship with the then secretary of state john kerry, sort of a political bag man, close associate of john kerry's and business partner to hunter biden, he goes, devon archer goes on the board of burisma, corrupt ukrainian company and he suggested several months later his business partner, hunter biden, join the board as well. this is while hunter biden's father, then vice president joe biden, is in charge of the obama administration's efforts to encourage ukraine to crack down on corruption and his son has just gone on the board of one of the big targets of the corruption efforts in ukraine, a company whose ceo was forced to flee the country and go into exile in dubai because the authorities wanted to get ahold

of him and talk to him about the corrupt practices burisma was involved in. >> john: karl, i mentioned we learned a lot reading through the plea deal. you also learn a lot of the transcript of the court proceeding, including how much money hunter biden made from his business dealings with china, which stands in sharp contradiction to this moment from the 2020 debate when president biden said this. he said my son has not made money in terms of this thing about what are you talking about china. the only guy who made money from china is this guy, points to donald trump. he's the only one, nobody else has made money from china. that statement, karl, did not have the added benefit of being true, and the president has said a lot of things about hunter biden, including i never talked to him about his dealings, and now the white house is saying the president was never in business with his son. does biden have statements

coming back to bite him as the election campaign really gets underway? >> oh, absolutely. and amazing one, i never talked to my son about his business dealings. first of all, i don't believe that. but if it's true, that's even more damning in a way. he should have been talking to his son. he should have said to his son i heard you joined the board of this company in ukraine, you have no background in ukraine, no background in corporate governance and nothing in energy, what this company is all about and besides that, it's a corrupt company we are encouraging the ukrainian government to crack down on, son you need to get off the board. he had to have known about it, it was a public issue, made public in may with a news release and coverage in this country that if the vice president did not talk to his son is damning. i mean, it's like go do anything you want to use the name biden to enrich yourself, i'm not going to bother telling you if it's a bad idea, that's horrific. and remember this, the

>> john: former president donald trump is facing three new charges in the classified documents case. special counsel jack smith's updated indictment accuses the 2024 republican front-runner of trying to erase mar-a-lago security footage to keep it out of the hands of the grand jury. national correspondent griff jenkins is live outside the u.s. district court in watch and griff, have we had any reaction to the former president to the new charges? >> john, good afternoon. we sure have, he spent much of his friday lashing out on truth social with multiple posts not taking these charges lightly. here is a little bit of what he's been writing. this "at the direction of

crooked joe biden and his weaponized doj, deranged jack smith is attempting to destroy the lives of two fine people who have worked for me and done a great job for a long time. they are being persecuted with one goal, to get trump." now this comes after jack smith added three new charges for trump, two ob junction of justice charges that relate to alleged efforts to have video footage deleted and one charge for willful retention of national defense information pertaining to what sources have confirmed to fox news is a highly classified iran war document. smith also adding a new defendant in the case, carlos dellavera, the property manager at mar-a-lago, charged in the video deletion as well as charges for making false statements to the fbi. one interest exchange pertaining to the video, on page 29, he allegedly told an unidentified mar-a-lago employee the boss wanted the server deleted and

so, i've been getting information from sources telling me that devon archer has not been at his new york upstatehouse or his brooklyn townhouse and was "in hiding." you know, other sources have said he's not in hiding but also afraid for his safety, his family's safety that he has received threats ahead of this testimony that he is going to give on monday, and that testimony really could be explosive because devon archer, he had a front row seat to all of hunter biden's overseas business dealings and he is expected to testify that joe biden was directly involved in this. >> sandra: this is just some breaking news we are running on the bottom portion of the screen as a fox news alert, this is just in to us. via "the new york post." the white house has apparently, josh, snubbed gop demand for detail on biden, the president's

knowledge of his son's business dealings. obviously we have seen and heard this shifting narrative coming from the white house over whether or not the president had ever discussed his son's business dealings, the case was always no from the white house, never discussed. that then changed as you heard in the exchange with karine jean-pierre, changed to he's not in business, nor has he ever been in business with his son. well, elise stefanik, james comer, judiciary chair jim jordan, jason smith, they have pressed the white house counsel in a letter, sent july 20th, about national security and ethics implications if the president was involved in any global wheeling and dealing. they have now been snubbed. what is your reaction to that? >> well, my reporting shows that there is a ton of evidence to suggest that joe biden not only knew about and spoke with hunter

about his overseas business dealings but may have actually been involved. just the day before the election, last year, we published a story from an anonymous whistleblower said he was on a conference call with joe biden, he was acting like the chairman of the board of the company dealing with online gambling in latin america. some of the business partners in that have denied it, they said it's a complete fabrication, but this source was saying no, i was on that conference call, joe biden was asking about profits, revenues, and this was while he was vice president. you also have multiple business partners of hunter in the dealings with the chinese, tony, rob walker, both told investigators that joe biden at least spoke with hunter and business partners about the chinese oil deal that hunter was working on, and that's multi-million dollar, $10 million oil deal. you've got hunter biden's texts that were revealed by the irs whistleblowers where he says i'm

sitting right next to my father, joe biden, you know, who we both want you to follow through on this $10 million deal, i'm paraphrasing. >> sandra: yeah. >> a lot of evidence here. >> sandra: on that point of evidence, our own reporter, aishah hasnie had a really interesting exchange with congressman jamie raskin on devon archer's testimony expected early next week, you are saying is in hiding, receiving threats ahead of that. this is a very telling exchange, watch. >> nobody has produced a single iota of evidence suggesting that president biden was involved in any corruption or any criminal -- >> what if devon archer does? >> that would be a different day, of course. >> sandra: that would be a different day. does this testimony change things significantly early next week? >> i think it really has the potential to. because as i said, devon had a front row seat, he would be a

firsthand witness. one of the things i would be asking about is what did you discuss with joe biden when you met with him at the white house, devon archer, days before your board seat on burisma was announced and just before hunter's board seat with burisma, the ukrainian gas company, was announced. i also think it's interesting that there is this repeated narrative here, statements from democrats saying that there is absolutely no evidence. there is plenty of evidence. i would say maybe not proof yet, and i think it would be for a jury or congress to determine truth, but there is plenty of evidence that joe was involved in hunter's business dealings, we just need to find out for sure whether we can prove that. >> sandra: well, elise stefanik is vowing to continue on saying the administration's continued stonewalling of the republican investigations into the biden family influence peddling scheme and biden's involvement will not deter us.

presidential candidates will be sharing the stage in des moines, iowa, speaking at the annual lincoln dinner. david and richard on governor desantis shift in messaging and whether it will rev up his campaign. but bill live from des moines, a chance to see some of the candidates together for the first time. >> sandra, good afternoon to you. the very first time during this campaign cycle that all of these gop candidates are going to be in the same room, the same location together. now, obviously some of them have been very critical of each other, now they are going to get a chance to come face-to-face. what's going on tonight, take a look at this, all the candidates, more than a dozen of them will be here in des moines for the annual lincoln dinner, hosted by the republican party of iowa. it happens every year. chris christie will not be here. each candidate is going to get ten minutes on stage to talk to the audience and make their pitch to voters.

now at the same time, vice president kamala harris is also here in des moines, meeting with activists about abortion rights and abortion legislation. she is strongly criticized florida in recent days for the new curriculum on black history, which teaches that some slaves benefitted from slavery because it taught them useful skills. now, she's not alone. gop presidential candidate tim scott, the only black republican in the senate also on the campaign trail in iowa, he also rebuked governor desantis and the state of florida for the new standards. take a listen. >> slavery was really about separating families, about mutilating humans, and depraving their lives. it's devastating. so i would hope that every person in our country and certainly the president would appreciate that. >> it doesn't stop there. florida gop congressman byron donalds who has endorsed donald

desperation in december, and why you see him next week going and moving to his economic message. >> john: what the wall street journal said about all of that, particularly after ron desantis had to get rid of 38 staffers from his campaign in a reboot to make it leaner and meaner. said the florida governor can still decide to run as the successful executive he is, the governor can't beat mr. trump by running as a more competent sane version of trump. he has to offer voters something better. he's been fighting the culture wars battle, the central plank of his campaign. now pivoting to the economy. that a recipe for a reboot? >> i disagree today -- must be outside -- >> the heat. >> and here is the reason why i agree with them in the moment. if you zoom out, to run the united states you have to engage in more than just culture wars. you have to create a governing

vision speaks to the economics, social issues and foreign policy and you'll you have seen governor desantis do is social issues with glittered headlines but not actually shown how he will govern the country. the slavery is one example, don't say gay bill, parental rights is another example, six week abortion ban is another example of things he would do that says oh, wow, this sounds cool and interesting, now people are asking, can he run the biggest corporation in the world, the united states federal government and there are questions on that. >> is it good to pivot for the economy for him? >> absolutely. campaigns are not overly complicated as you know. desantis is wise in a state where it is seeing some of the biggest influx of americans moving to because of the quality of life that you can have, because of the job opportunities you can have, because of the life you can have in florida, as governor policies that he has helped put in place that have led to that and he should be talking about that.

>> sandra: all right, california soft on crime policy is back in the spotlight after a man known as the snake burglar pleads guilty to more than 50 felonies and walks free. the suspect earning the nickname for trying to slither along the floor of the places he robbed to avoid detection. matt is on this for us live in los angeles. what exactly is going on here? >> well, sandra, here in southern california that career criminal was considered so sly he was dubbed the snake burglar and was linked to more than 70 commercial burglaries. he pleaded guilty to 54 counts of felony burglary and yet he will not go to prison. 32-year-old christopher michael jackson was convicted of stealing from restaurants, health clinics, medical offices and beauty salons in riverside and marino valley.
