10:04 am
what do you expect to come from this today, sir? >> well, this could be a blockbuster moment. we needed another breakthrough. you know, the house has been doing our responsibility, our duty under the constitution and this is to investigate these alleged bribery and extortion scandals, these abuses of power and the more stones we overturn the more scandals we uncover. and this is a key witness, intimately involved in the personal and business affairs of hunter biden and very likely his father. so what he says in that room will have a big bearing i think on the direction of these investigations. >> bill: you are knee deep in this investigation. why are you not in washington listening to this in person? >> i wish i could be there. i'm not on the oversight committee, i serve on house judiciary and the weaponization committee. this is specifically oversight committee hearing, so we have key members there, jim jordan, the chair of the house judiciary committee as you know and also on oversight is in the room as

10:06 am
this is a serious, serious matter. >> bill: devon archer, a lot of viewers getting to know this man. he goes back for years with hunter biden when it comes to business. however, he's about to go to jail, and if you look at this guy, call for number 2, sentenced to a year in prison for conspiracies, fraud charges, 43 million in restitution and last month and the month of june. what is his incentive to cooperate today? >> well, nobody can get into the mind and heart of mr. archer, but my suspicion is he wants to come clean. he has nothing to lose now. he is going to be sentenced to prison for his involvement with the native american tribes and all of that. that does not change the value of what he has witnessed, the evidence that he has. and you see the democrats point out every stop, including the department of justice. i mean, whether or not they were trying to suggest that he sh you had immediately be imprisoned
10:07 am
over the weekend is not the point. it's the brazen intervention, they are following a playbook, the democrats in congress have used in the weaponization committee investigation, for example. you try to intimidate the witnesses and then try to discredit the information they bring forward. i don't think it's going to work here. i think there are too many sources for evidence and back-up. >> bill: one minute, two more topics. doj move with the letter on saturday. apparently archer's lawyers did not. >> a letter on a saturday? i mean, come on. everybody can see right through it. myself and other members of judiciary were ready to jump on planes and come to d.c., if they tried to prevent him from testifying, we would have hauled merrick garland in for questioning. it goes to the top. >> bill: friday afternoon, the president made a bit of a joke

don't have the ability to charge dr. fauci, it's a referral, whether the doj does anything or not is completely up to the biden administration. another problem is, you can charge dr. fauci with criminal behavior, you can accuse every scientist and you know, public health official that served during covid if you want to, but it's not going to get at the underlying problem, which is the biden administration seems to not want to hold the chinese government accountable for originating covid in whatever form that took. >> i think you are exactly right, gillian and also very important to sort of pursue all avenues on this because i think that bringing sunshine to what happened during covid, how the government responded to covid, what maybe taxpayers were funding that may have contributed to covid is all very, very important. but at the end of the day, you are exactly right. it's going to be very difficult

to build a case against anybody if the executive branch is not interested in pursuing it. it's just not going to happen. that's the way the separation of powers and we are lucky we have it, but that's how it works. the real answer is a political one, and obviously that's what a lot of these hearings are about, and it's a very important aspect of all of it is that you, you know, you make it into a political debate and we have a very, you know, vigorous political debate about the way we handled covid, what sort of things nih was funding that may have contributed to the virus that led to all of this, and it has to be -- but it has to be done through the political process what rand paul is doing and colleagues are doing, but also important to understand that's what anthony fauci is trying to avoid and when he testifies in front of congress, the number of times he said

things that appear not to be true and certainly at the very least displayed great indifference towards politicians who are trying to get to the bottom of it. that kind of attitude towards our political processing is the most damning thing about anthony fauci. he kind of acts like well, you know, at one point he said i am science. i'm a scientist, i'm a doctor, i don't need to answer to you. yes, you do, actually, you were helping to make policy we paid for and suffered under. >> gillian: we have to leave it there, but we will continue the conversation and report on it. >> bill: hunter biden's former business partner leading with lawmakers behind closed doors for several hours today. will devon archer's interview be the smoking gun that links president biden to his son's shady overseas business deals. jonathan turley, the professor, is here to talk about that, gillian. >> gillian: americans across the
