>> half of all eligible voters will be millennial or gen-z and there are a lot of issues republicans are abdo indicating, they think young people are unwinnable monolithe. that is not true, one in five are independent. many can vote in the primary election and there are issues that can be flipped on their head, like the economy for example, should be framed not as issue of saving for retirement, but saving for down payment. >> carley: sound advice there. and millennials and gen-z will be majority by 2000 28, what is number one issue for you in the next election? >> the economy and i think she pointed it out really well. we have an economy that is in shambles right now.

people, gen-zers can't pay for groceries much less buy a house. inflation is high because of reckless democratic spending. this is easy for republicans to point out to gen-zers who knew what it was like and can compare to now. i will add that we could do better job of messaging to gen-zers. look at jeff jackson, doing great job on tiktok and instagram, no reason not to message on social media and they are not doing it. i don't know what it is, for some reason they are not doing good job of reaching young voters. >> carley: there is a piece in politico talking about growing likelihood of trump-biden rematch and talks about this conversation former president obama had with president biden warning about the strength of donald trump right now.

so seems like a lot of democrats want former president trump to be the candidate, but now the message is, be careful what you wish for. >> i think they are right. if you look at a trump-biden rematch in 2024, very similar to carter-reagan election in 1980. carter and biden are weak incumbent democratic candidate and trump and reagan were strong candidates. reagan appealed and won by a landslide, he appealed to young voters. the republican candidate has to appeal by adding affordable housing, tax cuts and things that benefit someone starting a career. >> carley: history has a way of repeating itself. there are some candidates that

may enter that haven't yet. when you think about glenn youngkin and governor gavin newsom. but so far, which of the candidate on the republican side impressed you the most? >> well, as an independent in new york, i don't get my primary vote, if i could, i think vivek ramaswamy is doing best job among republicans of speaking to young people. >> carley: quickly, a one-name answer. what about you? >> i -- honestly, as a journalist, i don't like to say who i am voting for, i want voters to go for who they want. i wish more people would take a step back and say let the people vote for who they want, best way to have a good republican candidate and i do like vivek ramaswamy. i like trump. desantis has good qualities, as well. >> carley: very fair. i understand. christian, real quick?

. but, right now, the biggest thing that benefits donald trump is the fact that it's a tied race. and i always ask this question: does it say more about trump or biden that a thrice indicted former president is tied with the current president? >> nbc's chuck todd questioning the current president's job performance over his predecessor's performance in the polls. >> beverly hallberg is president of district media group and she joins us now. beverly, good morning to you. can you answer mr. chuck todd's question? >> good morning. >> who does it say more about trump or wind. >> first of all, i'm not surprised in this poll at all

chuck todd shows he doesn't understand the american people and how polarized we are. the reality is that the more media covers indictments and there could be more indictments and only embolden trump supporters and put him in a position to get the republican nomination it. point to what republicans have concerns about which is the swamp. specifically the doj and it being corrupt. now, when it comes to biden, i think the most interesting thing about that is the more is he covered the left independents want to vote for him because that is because we see his age on full display. i don't think it's too hard to figure out. i would expect somebody in this role of being a journalist and somebody who studies this to be able to see through it a little bit better. >> carley: here is something interesting playing out right now as the presidential election is underway this is a potential debate that could happen on fox news with sean hannity between gavin newsom and ron desantis. take a listen to both of them agreeing to it. >> you would do a two hour debate with ron desantis?

>> i think it sounds like gavin newsom is getting cold feet. maybe he didn't think ron desantis was actually going to be agree to this. one of the rules that the gavin newsom team is pushing back on is this idea of an audience that desantis wants an audience. first of all it's always better in a public debate to have a an audience. we are not in covid times anymore. there is going to be a role where both sides get the same number of allotment of tickets for supporters. it comes down to gavin newsom is going to have to put the policies against the policies of florida, and this is just a losing proposition. i think this is gavin newsom trying to back out. >> that's what we were discussing earlier. just the fact that it could be on fox news with sean hannity, that would be interesting to say the least. we know, beverly, cnn an tore cores with disgusted that the orlando magic donated money to ron desantis' super pac. watch this. >> more importantly statement pointed out it's their money, money for nba teams the orlando

magic money that they donated to ron desantis doesn't come from a magic tree elf. it came from the work of those players on the court. and the fact that their work has been turned into a contribution for someone running for president who has come out with statements that they think directly oppose who they are as people. that is very difficult to stomach. >> ashley: beverly, do you think this is the conversation they would be having if they would have donated to democrat? >> not at all. the fact that the nba is upset about some type of political donation is laughable. a sports entity that has been very political. look at some of the social justice causes, for example, after the death of george floyd how they promoted black lives matter. but you have teams that have promoted issues like abortion. and, in those instances they don't talk about the diversity of the opinions of the players. so the moral of the story is for the nba if it's a progressive policy, they are all for it. but if it leans conservative well all of a sudden they think it's not fair game.
