keeping new yorkers safe. this is about from two weeks ago when they rolled this out. nypd spending big money on top of the line tactical drones like what you're looking at. those drones have thermal imaging and night vision technology that allows them to zoom in and closely look at those areas before the first responders show up. so the drone company c.e.o.'s told "the new york post" that these next generation devices have been used in ukraine and even in turkey to help find survivors of that massive earthquake. but not everyone is on board with these plans. the new york civil liberties union sending out this warning. drones pose serious risks to new yorkers' privacy. despite this, police departments rarely disclose how they're used and what kind of information they're collecting. >> there's been a lot of buzz. let me be clear. drones are proven technology and they're being used every day and the city of new york cannot lead from the rear. we must lead from the front.
7:46 am
>> how much money are we talking about here? according to "the new york post," the nypd dished out nearly $90,000 for less 10 tactical drones and more than $200,000 for additional drones and accessories here. right now, there are 530 active drone registrations by 85 different new york government entities across the state. a lot of people are using them. according to the nyclu report, dana, more departments show interest in using it technology, a new bipartisan bill could limit the use of foreign produced drones in the united states. it's something we'll keep a close eye on, dana. >> dana: we must indeed. alexis is in new york. >> bill: she is. >> dana: got it right. 7:48 am
that because of the connection on social media. >> the point here is well made. you can't raise kids on social media. but then the other point is parents actually have to raise their kids and raise kids that even if you go to a place where there are m-80's and agitators, your child was raised so well they don't get on top of cars and damage cars or take them with a hammer and smash windows. that's a problem. also, bill, you don't have a new york city prosecutors who are willing to prosecute young kids and i think you save kids' lives if they do bad things and you accepted them away for a little while. they can get their life on track. no one is ever prosecuted! they do bad things and get away with crime. crime ends up paying. and then here, you have law enforcement that's back on their heels. law enforcement should have been engaged disrupting thisment they don't have a community that supports them. so they almost are afraid of this violent situation themselves. >> dana: also for the police, taylor, like i've never heard of this influencer. clearly, all of these kids have.
7:49 am
and i think the police are doing their best. they're checking the social media accounts of all the known terrorists that we have. there's not a terrorist situation but in order to prevent a riot or scene like this, do police officers need to be on line? knowing like what is possibly going to happen? and what about the next influencer who wants to show that they can do it, too? >> and none of these events are sort of sanctioned in a way. there's no sort of permitting so that the police could even know about it. i think you're right. we're sort of in this peak celebrity influencer culture where you put one thing out on social media and you now have thousands of people showing up. so i feel bad for the police, like you said, where they're caught off guard in this age of social media and it's hard to catch that. >> bill: so he's facing a lot of charges. two counts of inciting a riot. serious stuff. see how that goes in court. meanwhile, kamala harris was out over the weekend and she had a message for communities, ok.

>> dana: i wonder who she thinks the audience is. >> good question. i would also be careful if i were her because she's also overseen one of the largest community bank failures that we all saw in march, two or three of them, silicon valley bank that almost then took down the rest of the financial system in a sense. one of the largest declines of these community banks that we've seen since 2008 or even the great depression. i think what she's trying to say is community banks are the lifeblood of those communities. and you need them because they have relationships with the small business owners and they're acutely aware of the risk of the communities in the way that j.p. morgan in new york city doesn't know. you have to say that. be careful when you've overseen the collapse of those banks as well. >> bill: there's a number of words that you can use when you say it. some of that wasn't in the prompter. we have to determine which ones. >> dana: thank you both. great to see you. well, elon musk and mark zuckerberg talking trash ahead of their cage match.
