>> steve: good morning, everybody. hour two of "fox & friends," 7:00 in the east on this thursday, august 17th, 2023. we start this hour with some brand new fox news polling that has just come out in the last 12 hours. most voters believe former president donald trump and hunter biden both did something illegal. and president biden himself isn't too far behind in bad polling despite repeatedlily saying he was never involved in his son's overseas business dealings as we have heard him say over and over to white house reporters like mark meredith who joirns us now from the white house, good morning, mark. >> steve, good morning to you. former president trump has spoken out about the multiple cases against him. he has criticized the judges, the prosecutors, each the pundits involved. now we know where he stands in the court of public opinion. the latest fox news polling released overnight asked voters what they think about the criminal case here in d.c. where trump was accused of trying to overturn the 2020 election. 53% of the people saying they
4:02 am
believe he did something illegal. 20% saying something wrong, not illegal. and 24% saying nothing seriously wrong. fox also asked voters what they think about the criminal case against first son hunter biden. 50% of registered voters say hunter did do something illegal. those numbers are up quite a bit from earlier this year when many of the details of the case remained undisclosed. it was still under investigation. voters also concerned about hunter's business deals impacting the president directly with 38% of voters believing the president did something illegal. the white house though has repeatedly said that the president did nothing improper. on wednesday, president biden kept his focus on the economy, marking the one year anniversary of the signing of the inflation reduction acts. he is fully embracing that relatively new name though for his economic policies. >> the financial times and the "wall street journal" initially called my plan bidenomics. i'm not sure they made it complimentary way at the time. his son and they made it pretty clear they don't have to. >> steve, you are right. that was as we were waiting the details what was to come next. before the special counsel was announced last week. still going to be a lot of questions about what the criminal case against the first son is going to look like going forward. his legal team has made it clear even in the last few days they believe it's still possible that there won't be a trial even though there was just that filing that indicates a trial is going to happen because both sides were at impasse on sentencing. steve, ainsley and brian. the polling here will be very interesting to see whether or not it reflects anything with presidential primary. still rumblings we may see somebody else to jump into the race to challenge president biden. as to who that is going to be still a guessing game. >> steve: like magic 8 ball says ask again later. >> brian: mark, the weird thing is the president's son had a plea deal and admitted guilt. how can he keep saying my son did nothing wrong? >> well, and originally the plan

was for him to enter the guilty plea then did he enter a not guilty plea. on the record in the paperwork it is a not guilty plea at this point. and hunter's legal team has made it clear they felt this was going to be a raw deal or different deal than originally discussed. when it comes to the special counsel, brian, and you know, this after all we have seen this the last few years. we don't know how long this is going to drag on for. will this last all throughout 2024? will this be the october surprise that happens next year? anybody's guessing game. it's going to have an impact on pretty much every discussion going forward. as the polls show people are paying attention. >> ainsley: thank you so much, mark. mark mentioned milwaukee for the debate. that's whereby the debate is going to be. that's also where president biden was earlier in the week. he was touting bidenomics and how proud he is of it. but, if you look at some of the facts, and some of the headlines, it says the opposite. like fox business, the headline was inflation forcing americans to spend $709 more per month than two years ago. bank rate, mortgage rates hit

two decade high, abc says u.s. gas prices climbed to the highest level in nearly 10 months and in essence says credit card debt soars to $1 trillion for the first time in history. >> steve: think about where we were a year ago the ebbflation rate 9.1%. how is he ever going to get this down through all of these interest rate hikes through the federal reserve they have been able to bring it down. right now the inflation rate is 3.2%. unemployment is 3.5. that's pretty good. the administration has some pretty good numbersment but the problem is prices are high and people just don't feel like it's good. like the headline i just touched on, ainsley, where the average american family is paying more than $700 more per month than they did just two years ago, before joe biden. and so, you know, you add that

so we will see how we deal with instead of having a deficit annually at about 550 billion, it is now over a trillion and the president needs emergency spending wills to get through. this is the problem. if you want to spend endlessly and if the dollar doesn't matter, you could get your agenda through, especially if you mislabel it as inflation reduction act. >> steve: remember, it passed when inflation was 9%. everybody is like we have got do something. really and we said this before. it really is the get joe biden reelected bill. and that passed just a year ago. yesterday was the anniversary nonetheless when you look at it peel away the name it's a spending bill. when you are running for re-election you want to go to all the different parts of the country and say look how much we are spending on this. we are helping you by doing all of this. that is what he is doing. going to do it again today. >> brian: i think the way the republicans feel about it. thank you. because i will more than happy
